• Smart Client App: How to give Different Settings for Different Users

  Hi! I have a smart client application being deployed with a CickOnce webpage. here's the current scenario. User runs the application, and the application shows a login form. User enters ID/Password in the login form, and the application sends that information to the server. The server authenticates the user and sends configuration and data to the application. Different users have different configuration and data for their application. I was concerned that anyone can download the application from the webpage if they know the URL. So I'm trying to change the authentication scheme, so that users can login at the webpage to download the application. I want to send the authentication info from the webpage(Program running at the server) to the smart client app, so that application can download the configuration information from the server, without prompting users to make a login again. How can the webpage send the ID/Passoword to the application securely?

• Mootools 1.2.4 delegation not working in IE8...?

  Hey there everybody-- So I have a listbox next to a form. When the user clicks an option in the select box, I make a request for the related data, returned in a JSON object, which gets put into the form elements. When the form is saved, the request goes thru and the listbox is rebuilt with the updated data. Since it's being rebuilt I'm trying to use delegation on the listbox's parent div for the onchange code. The trouble I'm having is with IE8 (big shock) not firing the delegated event. So this all works as expected in firefox, but IE8 refuses to fire the delegated change event on the select element. If I attach the change function directly to the select, then it works just fine. Am I missing something? Does IE8 just not like the :relay? Sidenote: I'm very new to mootools and javascripting, etc, so if there's something that can be improved code-wise, please let me know too.. • Floated DIVs not flowing properly

  Hi everyone, I am working on a photo gallery, each thumbnail is in its own DIV and floated to the left in a containing DIV. It has been displaying properly up until vertical thumbnails entered the equation. Now, when the next row should start, the first item of the following row is to the left of the last vertical DIV (thumbnail), rather than flush to the left of the containing DIV. • Stream/string/bytearray transformations in Python 3

  Python 3 cleans up Python's handling of Unicode strings. I assume as part of this effort, the codecs in Python 3 have become more restrictive, according to the Python 3 documentation compared to the Python 2 documentation. For example, codecs that conceptually convert a bytestream to a different form of bytestream have been removed: base64_codec bz2_codec hex_codec And codecs that conceptually convert Unicode to a different form of Unicode have also been removed (in Python 2 it actually went between Unicode and bytestream, but conceptually it's really Unicode to Unicode I reckon): rot_13 My main question is, what is the "right way" in Python 3 to do what these removed codecs used to do? They're not codecs in the strict sense, but "transformations". But the interface and implementation would be very similar to codecs. I don't care about rot_13, but I'm interested to know what would be the "best way" to implement a transformation of line ending styles (Unix line endings vs Windows line endings) which should really be a Unicode-to-Unicode transformation done before encoding to byte stream, especially when UTF-16 is being used, as discussed this other SO question.

• Passing parameters to a delphi TFrame

  To avoid singletons and global variables I'd like to be able to pass parameters to a TFrame component. However since a TFrame normally is included on form at design time it is only possible to use the default constructor. The parent form can of course set some properties in the OnCreate callback after the TFrame has been created. However this does not ensure that a property is not forgotten, and the dependencies are not as clear as using a constructor. A nice way would be if it was possible to register a factory for creating components while the dfm file is being read. Then the required parameters could be passed to the TFrame constructor when created by the factory. Is there a way of accomplishing this? Or does anyone have a better solution on how to pass parameters to a TFrame?

  Hi All, This is my first winform app in .NET... I have made a couple of ASP.NET app... In this app, I have some common variables, like current user name, his selected process etc.. etc.. This should be made accessible from all forms in the app at any time... How could I do this... Is there any place like "Session" in ASP.NET here... Further How do coders generally pass information from one form to another... Here I want to pass on the info I acquired in the first form to the subsequent forms...   The following code prints out "vmtDataOrig.creationdate=2012-11-03" VmtData vmtDataOrig = VmtDataDao.getInstance().loadVmt(1); System.out.println("vmtDataOrig.creationdate=" + vmtDataOrig.getCreationDate().toString()); Here is the definition of the creationDate field in the VmtData class: private Date creationDate = null; Here is the hibernate mapping of the creationDate field to the database table column: <property name="creationDate" column="CREATIONDATE" type="date"/> The CREATIONDATE column in the MySQL database table is of type "date", and for the record retrieved it has the value "2012-11-03". The Javadoc for the java.util.Date.toString() method says it is supposed to print the Date object in the form "dow mon dd hh:mm:ss zzz yyyy". Anyone know why it is printing it out in the form "yyyy-MM-dd"?

My Domain Model is something like: I've made the Contract for the first and second operations as: Preconditions: none Postconditions: there exists a Client c such that c.clientNumber = clientNumber. Now, I don't know if I should form an association between this Client c and the DVDStore(that I intend to use as front-end). If I don't make the association, how will I later be able to "reference" this same Client? Should I be making an association between Client and a different concept? Thanks

• JQuery Validate Dynamic Table

  I'm using the JQuery validation plug to validate my entire form. I also have a dynamic table on my registration page where the user can register more people. I can validate the rest of the form fine but my goal is to validate the table inputs just the same. Here is my jfiddle code: tables I don't know why the add line won't work there but it definitely works on my page. Anyway, that code ends up validate ONLY the first row of my table, but I want it to validate every single row. Can anyone see any problems with the code?

  In my team, we put all our projects (only 7 large ones) in the same solution. And since some code is common between project we tend to have the same file included in each project. This is fine and compiles/runs well. But when I do a global search in my solution, VS does a "stupid" search and goes through all the files in each project, without checking if a file has already been searched. This leads to longer searches whose results have duplicates. Do anyone know a fix for this issue?

• $_POST goes empty after adding a new input type "file"

  Hi, I'm not finding a way to understand and fix this and I've done a lot. I've got a script, wish is a simple form, that sends a file trough POST. The second file, process the info. By default, I give to the user a few fields, one of them being a input field of type "file" and there's also, a few "hidden" one's, that gives me values to work with on POST. I found that, when adding a new input of type "file", the $_POST returns array 0, even $_FILES returns nothing. I have no idea how to fix this, and it works just fine when keeping the default input box of type "file". This is the form http://pastie.org/872488 This only happens when: Exists! var_dump( $_POST ), or $_FILES, print_r(), etc Returns nothing. • How does Model binding with a selectlist work?

  Hi, I'm having problems retrieving the values of a selectlist in my form collection. I've tried making a viewmodel with an attribute with the same name as the select list. I'm honestly just realizing I REALLY don't understand how model binding works with selectlists. I've just been assuming that the following conventions apply: Name the select list the same thing as the attribute on the model you want it to bind to. Apart from that, I really don't get it. I've looked at several books on it and they're useless frankly. How does a select list work with a) form collection and b) a particular model?

• CSS gurus, can I make my absolutely positioned child element force the main parent's height?

  This is kind of hard to explain. I have an absolutely positioned floating secondary content box. It works great in all occurrences. Except, when you submit a form and don't fill out the fields (see here, and push send). The box expands to show the errors, and underneath the footer there is a blank space. The best example I can give is to see it in action (link above). I've played with min-height and it didn't work too good. I'd also like to avoid expanding the footer with code in the event of form errors if I can help it. Should I ditch the absolute positioning? And try with margins? Is there any other way to get it to work?

  I am building an application where the user browses certain objects by scrolling and zooming. To change the zoom level I have successfully implemented a "dijit.form.HorizontalSlider" object. Every time the user changes the position of the silder, I can catch the "onChange" call and do something with that. However, the user can also zoom-in by double clicking inside the view zone, at which point the slider should change position automatically to reflect the new zoom level. My question is the following: what function or method should I call in my javascript to update the position of a dojo silder ? • combining dynamic text with regular expressions in php

  I am experimenting with finding popular keywords using curl, php and regular expressions. I have an array of non-specific nouns that I am matching my keyword search up. So I am looking for words like "the", "and", "that" etc. and taking them out of the keyword search. so I have an array of words like so: $wordArr = [the, and, at,....]; and then running something like: && preg_match('(\bmyword\w*\b)', $key) == false how do I combine these two so it loops through the array finding out if any of the words in the array match the regular expression? I guess I could just do a for loop, but though maybe I could use in_array($wordArr, $key).. or something like that.

Here is what I do: create a VCL Forms application. add the german language. add the german translation of the form caption using the translator. set my active language preference to german (project-language-set active...). build and run and I still get the english form caption. There is no xxx.deu file created. What am I doing wrong?
