• How can I use Convert.ChangeType to convert string into numerics with group separator?

  Hello, I want to make a generic string to numeric converter, and provide it as a string extension, so I wrote the following code: public static bool TryParse<T>( this string text, out T result, IFormatProvider formatProvider ) where T : struct try { result = (T)Convert.ChangeType( text, typeof( T ), formatProvider ); return true; } catch(... I call it like this: int value; var ok = "123".TryParse(out value, NumberFormatInfo.CurrentInfo) It works fine until I want to use a group separator: As I live in France, where the thousand separator is a space and the decimal separator is a comma, the string "1 234 567,89" should be equals to 1234567.89 (in Invariant culture). But, the function crashes! When a try to perform a non generic conversion, like double.Parse(...), I can use an overload which accepts a NumberStyles parameter. I specify NumberStyles.Number and this time it works! So, the questions are : Why the parsing does not respect my NumberFormatInfo (where the NumberGroupSeparator is well specified to a space, as I specified in my OS) How could I make work the generic version with Convert.ChangeTime, as it has no overload wich accepts a NumberStyles parameter ?

  Hi All, I'm tryihg to bind a combobox item source to a static resource. I'm oversimplfying my example so that it's easy to understand what i'm doing. So I have created a class public class A : ObservableCollection<string> { public A() { IKBDomainContext Context = new IKBDomainContext(); Context.Load(Context.GetIBOptionsQuery("2C6C1Q"), p => { foreach (var item in SkinContext.IKBOptions) { this.Add(item); } }, null); } } So the class has a constructor that populates itself using a domaincontext that gets data from a persisted database. I'm only doing reads on this list so dont have to worry about persisting back. in xaml i add a reference to the namespace of this class then I add it as a usercontrol.resources to the page control. <UserControl.Resources> <This:A x:Key="A"/> </UserControl.Resources> and then i use it this staticresource to bind it to my combobox items source.in reality i have to use a datatemplate to display this object properly but i wont add that here. <Combobox ItemsSource="{StaticResource A}"/> Now when I'm in the designer I get the error: Cannot Create an Instance of "A". If i compile and run the code, it runs just fine. This seems to only affect the editing of the xaml page. What am I doing wrong?

• How to read a Website's Directory Structure using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0?

  Hi all, I need to read a website's folders using WMI and C# in IIS 6.0. I am able to read the Virtual directories and applications using the "IISWebVirtualDirSetting" class. However the physical folders located inside a website cannot be read using this class. And for my case i need to read sub folders located within a website and later on set permission on them. For my requirement i dont need to work on Virtual Directories/Web Service Applications (which can be easily obtained using the code below..). I have tried to use IISWebDirectory class but it has been useful.   I recently encountered an idiom I haven't seen before: string assembly by StringWriter and PrintWriter. I mean, I know how to use them, but I've always used StringBuilder. Is there a concrete reason for preferring one over the other? The StringBuilder method seems much more natural to me, but is it just style? I've looked at several questions here (including this one which comes closest: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/602279/stringwriter-or-stringbuilder ), but none in which the answers actually address the question of whether there's a reason to prefer one over the other for simple string assembly.   I have an XML file that I am attempting to deserialize into it's respective objects. It works great on most of these objects, except for one item that is being doubled up on. The issue is that when this XML is deserialized, the List<Report> object has a count of 2 -- the "First Report" Report object is in there twice. Why?   I need to add unit tests using Cmockery to an existing build environment that uses as hand-crafted Makefile. So I need to figure out how to build cmockery.c (without automake). When I run: g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DPIC -I ../cmockery-0.1.2 -I /usr/include/malloc -c ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c -o obj/cmockery.o I get a long list of errors like this: ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c: In function ‘void initialize_source_location(SourceLocation*)’: ../cmockery-0.1.2/cmockery.c:248: error: cast from ‘SourceLocation*’ to ‘int’ loses precision Here are lines 247:248 of cmockery.c: static void initialize_source_location(SourceLocation * const location) { assert_true(location); assert_true is defined on line 154 of cmockery.h: #define assert_true(c) _assert_true((int)(c), #c, __FILE__, __LINE__) So the problem (as the error states) is GCC doesn't like the cast from ‘SourceLocation*’ to ‘int’. I can build Cmockery using ./configure and make (on Linux, and on Mac OS X if I export CFLAGS=-I/usr/include/malloc first), without any errors. I've tried looking at the command-line that compiles cmockery.c when I run make (after ./configure): gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I./src -I./src -Isrc/google -I/usr/include/malloc -MT libcmockery_la-cmockery.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/libcmockery_la-cmockery.Tpo -c src/cmockery.c -fno-common -DPIC -o .libs/libcmockery_la-cmockery.o ...but I don't see any options that might work around this error. In "error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision", I see I could change (int) in cmockery.h to (intptr_t). And I've confirmed that works. But since I can build Cmockery with ./configure and make, there must be a way to get it to build without modifying the source.

  I'm having some trouble using a combination of XElement and XslCompiledTransform. I've put the sample code I'm using below. If I get my input XML using the GetXmlDocumentXml() method, it works fine. If I use the GetXElementXml() method instead, I get an InvalidOperationException when calling the Transform method of XslComiledTransform: Token Text in state Start would result in an invalid XML document. Make sure that the ConformanceLevel setting is set to ConformanceLevel.Fragment or ConformanceLevel.Auto if you want to write an XML fragment. The CreateNavigator method on both XElement and XmlDocument returns an XPathNavigator. What extra stuff is XmlDocument doing so this all works, and how can I do the same with XElement? • Zend Framework subdomain+subfolder router rewrite problem

  I'm new to Zend Framwork and this is an issue I've been struggling for several hours already... • Parallel port with C#

  Hello, I am trying to send data to LPT1 port with a C# program, unfortunately with no success.. I am using windows 7 x64. I tried both x86 and x64 (inpoutx64.dll) dll's.. With the x64 dll when I send: Output(888, 255); It just continues the program as everything went ok, but i can't see anything on my multimeter (only the static 0.02V).. I also tried the following with C++: int main () { int val = 0; printf("Enter a value\n"); scanf("%d", &val); _outp(0x378, val); getchar(); _outp(0x378, 0); return 0; } But it throws an exception: Unhandled exception at 0x01281428 in ppac.exe: 0xC0000096: Privileged instruction. I remember once I made something like this work on xp, I hope it's possible on win7 too.. Please help me with this. Thanks.

• Xcode Link Frameworks "Relative to Current SDK" Doesn't Work When Mixing Mac Framework and iPhone St

  I have a framework of code I maintain. It's got mac and iphone objective-c code. And some of it is shared. I'm not having any problems with code. It's a problem with Xcode. Let's just call my framework "AwesomeKit" for this problem. The first thing I did was create an xcode Framework project called "AwesomeKit". Add source files to it, link against the common mac frameworks: foundation, cocoa, carbon, etc. It compiles fine. Then, add a new "static library" target, let's call it "AwesomeKit-iPhone" and set the base SDK in the build settings to iphone device 3.1.3. The problem comes when I try to add "Existing Frameworks" to the AweseomKit-iPhone target. -First change the current build target to AwesomeKit-iPhone. -Right click on any group and select "Add Existing Frameworks..." -Choose UIKit.framework UIKit will immediately be highlighted red, as if it's missing. It is indeed missing because Xcode uses the "Relative SDK" setting from the "Mac OS 10.6" SDK. When it should be using it relative to the current target's base sdk iphone device 3.1.3. What the heck? Has anyone experienced this? This is really annoying.

• Mac OS X Server Open Directory does not push Software Update settings to clients

  I have an Xserve G5 running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 configured as an Open Directory master. I have also enabled and configured Software Update service on the machine. The SUS is configured to serve Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard clients (see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10297359#10297359) The clients bound to the OD are a variety of Mac's running OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6. In Workgroup Manager, I have created 3 machine groups for each client OS. Each group is configured with a custom SUS URL, and the managed client computers are members accordingly (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10493154#10493154) My problem is that the server pushes the SUS settings to some of the client machines, but not all. When I first configured all this stuff on the server (a few weeks ago) I was closely monitoring a few of the client machines to confirm that they received the custom settings. I noticed that some of the clients (10.4/5/6 alike) seemed to get the settings immediately, others didn't show the new settings until after a reboot. As I said, results are mixed across OS's, but some clients will not "sync" at all. My immediate thought was to unbind/rebind the problematic machines. I did this on several client computers with no success. For example, today I was working on one of the Tiger clients. I noticed it was not pointed at my local SUS, so I checked the OD binding; it was fine. Just to be sure I unbound the machine. Next, I checked WM and confirmed the computer record was gone. I noticed the machine group still had a residual (broken?) member from the unbound client; I manually removed this. Finally, I re-bound the client to OD and re-added the machine to it's correct group in WM. Unfortunately, the client still pings apple's SUS for updates. Just to play it safe I rebooted the client, but to no avail, it will not see my local SUS. To confirm that there is nothing wrong with the server, or the client's connection to it, forcefully pointed the machine at my SUS: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "$LOCAL_SUS_URL" and the machine successfully updated off my local server. Great, successful updates, but problem not solved. I've done exhaustive reading on discussions.apple.com (not saying I read everything, I'm just saying I have read a lot) without a good answer. The discouraging thing is that a lot of OD problems I've read about only result in the sysadmin completely reinstalling the server, or OD, or some other similarly heavy-handed operation. At this point, I am not willing to go that route. I still have hope that I can find the reason for this flaky behavior. If anyone can point me in a helpful direction it would be much appreciated. EDIT: Indeed, some files are being pushed to the client: # from client machine: $ sudo find /Library -type f -name com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Managed Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Managed Preferences/username/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist A few weeks ago, prior to my (previously mentioned) modifications, the SUS was still running "stock". Which meant it could not serve SL (10.6) machines. At that time, the Software Update settings were setup in WM under User Groups. This didn't make any sense because some users work on multiple machines with different OS's. Before creating Machine Groups in WM, I deleted all the SU settings from the User Group Preferences. This just makes the whole thing more confusing, because when I see a file here: /Library/Managed Preferences/username/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist I assume it's still remaining from the "old" settings, because I wouldn't think a Machine Setting belongs there. Despite all the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist hanging around under the Managed Preferences, why does the client machine still call home to Apple and not my SUS? # on client machine: $ date Tue Jan 25 17:01:46 EST 2011 $ softwareupdate --list Software Update Tool Copyright 2002-2005 Apple No new software available. switch terminals... # on server: $ tail -n1 /var/log/swupd/swupd_access_log 10.x.x.x - - [25/Jan/2011:15:54:29 -0500] XXXX POST "/cgi-bin/SoftwareUpdateServerStats" 200 13 ...   My program checks to test if a word or phrase is a palindrome (reads the same both backward and forward, ex "racecar"). The issue I'm having is after someone enters in "racecar" getting it to actually test. In the below code, I marked where if I type in "racecar" and run, Java returns the correct answer so I know I'm right there. But what am I missing as far as entering it into the console. I think my code is ok, but maybe I have something missing or in the wrong spot?   Hi, I am new to iphone development. I have created 5 buttons in the view. On clicking the buttons it navigates to the corresponding views.   I have a WCF service running, I added a reference to the service by using Add Service Reference in the solution explorer, and I checked the box for create asynchronous operations. My call works fine, I have a two way channel that reports back some events from the server and I am receiving the events. However, when the asynchronous task finishes in my callback handeler I get the error Unable to cast object of type 'SendAsyncResult' to type 'System.Runtime.Remoting.Messaging.AsyncResult'. Code that calls the method. • Performance penalty of typecasting and boxing/unboxing types in C# when storing generic values

  I have a set-up similar to WPF's DependencyProperty and DependencyObject system. My properties however are generic. A BucketProperty has a static GlobalIndex (defined in BucketPropertyBase) which tracks all BucketProperties. A Bucket can have many BucketProperties of any type. A Bucket saves and gets the actual values of these BucketProperties... now my question is, how to deal with the storage of these values, and what is the penalty of using a typecasting when retrieving them? I currently use an array of BucketEntries that save the property values as simple objects. Is there any better way of saving and returning these values? • Enum "does not have a no-arg default constructor" with Jaxb and cxf

  A client is having an issue running java2ws on some of their code, which uses & extends classes that are consumed from my SOAP web services. Confused yet? :) I'm exposing a SOAP web service (JBoss5, Java 6). Someone is consuming that web service with Axis1 and creating a jar out of it with the data types and client stubs. They are then defining their own type, which extends one of my types. My type contains an enumeration. class MyParent { private MyEnumType myEnum; // getters, settters for myEnum; } class TheirChild extends MyParent { ... } When they are running java2ws on their code (which extends my class), they get Caused by: com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 2 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions net.foo.bar.MyEnuMType does not have a no-arg default constructor. this problem is related to the following location: at net.foo.bar.MyEnumType at public net.foo.bar.MyEnumType net.foo.bar.MyParent.getMyEnum() The enum I've defined is below. This is now how it comes out after being consumed, but it's how I have it defined on the app server: @XmlType(name = "MyEnumType") @XmlEnum public enum MyEnumType { Val1("Val1"), Val2("Val2") private final String value; MyEnumType(String v) { value = v; } public String value() { return value; } public static MyEnumType fromValue(String v) { if (v == null || v.length() == 0) { return null; } if (v.equals("Val1")) { return MyEnumType.Val1; } if (v.equals("Val2")) { return MyEnumType.Val2; } return null; } } I've seen things online and other posts, like (this one) regarding Jaxb's inability to handle Lists or things like that, but I'm baffled about my enum. I'm pretty sure you can't have a default constructor for an enum (well, at least a public no-arg constructor, Java yells at me when I try), so I'm not sure what makes this error possible. Any ideas? Also, the "2 counts of IllegalAnnotationsExceptions" may be because my code actually has two enums that are written similarly, but I left them out of this example for brevity.

• WPF Exposing a calculated property for binding (as DependencyProperty)

  Hello, I have a complex WPF control that for some reasons (ie. performance) is not using dependency properties but simple C# properties (at least at the top level these are exposed as properties). The goal is to make it possible to bind to some of those top level properties - I guess I should declare them as DPs.(right? or is there some other way to achieve this? ) I started reading on MSDN about DependencyProperties and DependencyObjects and found an example: public class MyStateControl : ButtonBase { public MyStateControl() : base() { } public Boolean State { get { return (Boolean)this.GetValue(StateProperty); } set { this.SetValue(StateProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty StateProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "State", typeof(Boolean), typeof(MyStateControl),new PropertyMetadata(false)); } If I'm right - this code enforces the property to be backed up by DependencyProperty which restricts it to be a simple property with a store(from functional point of view, not technically) instead of being able to calculate the property value each time getter is called and setting other properties/fields each time setter is called. What can I do about that? Is there any way I could make those two worlds meet at some point?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

• LINQ(2 SQL) Insert Multiple Tables Question

  I have 3 tables. A primary EmploymentPlan table with PK GUID EmploymentPlanID and 2 FK's GUID PrevocServicesID & GUID JobDevelopmentServicesID. There are of course other fields, almost exclusively varchar(). Then the 2 secondary tables with the corresponding PK to the primary's FK's. I am trying to write the LINQ INSERT Method and am struggling with the creation of the keys. Say I have a method like below. Is that correct? Will that even work? Should I have seperate methods for each? Also, when INSERTING I didn't think I needed to provide the PK for a table. It is auto-generated, no? • Issues with cross-domain uploading

  I'm using a django plugin called django-filebrowser which utilizes uploadify. The issue I'm having is that I'm hosting uploadify.swf on a remote static media server, whereas my admin area is on my django server. At first, the browse button wouldn't invoke my browser's upload. I fixed this by modifying the sameScriptAccess to always instead of sameDomain. Now the progress bar doesn't move at all, I probably have to enable some server setting for cross domain file uploading, or most likely actually host a separate upload script on my media server.   I am rewriting my website with codeigniter and have something I want to do but not sure it is possible. I have a gallery on my site powered by the Flickr API. Any ideas?
