  • Are there any 17-20 inch monitors that support displayport?

    I've got dual monitors now (both 20 inch 1600x1200). After seeing the new eyefinity cards out there (and reading the CodingHorror post on three monitors) I've decided to get a third. It's time to upgrade my video card anyway. Since I don't already have a third monitor and will be buying one new, I figure it'd make sense to buy one that already had a DisplayPort interface so as to avoid the adapter issue. However, I can't seem to find any monitors on newegg that support this (it's not even an option in the power search, and a keyword search turned up only adapters and video cards). A quick google showed me several 30 inchers (like Dell's, but that's way too expensive, and I don't have that much room on my desk even if I had that money) and some 22 inch models. Again, I'm looking for a 17-20 inch with a DisplayPort interface built in. Any suggestions?

  • AHCI on Windows if BIOS does not have the option but all hardware does support it?

    Is it somehow possible to use AHCI on Windows if the BIOS does not have the option to enable it? This is a known problem especially on mid-old Laptops that have chipsets and drives that perfectly support SATA and AHCI, but only provide the legacy IDE mode in BIOS. Especially with SSD's this can often be a problem. I know that Linux has no problems to run everything in SATA and AHCI mode on these machines. So, is there any possibility to also make Windows "override" the BIOS? Some kind of alternative BIOS's, drivers, etc? Or some kind of Linux-based boot module that emulates an AHCI-capable BIOS to Windows while booting up?

  • What TLDs should I use for my NS records for redundancy? (DNSSEC support required)

    Question As a general practice, is it a good idea to use multiple TLDs for the name servers? How should I choose between which TLD would be a good candidate for being the root server for my NS name? More Info I am switching over 800 DNS zones to an outsourced DNS provider. I originally planned on setting the zone names to nsX.company.com, but think it would be best to have multiple TLDs such as .net , .org and .info Since I plan on supporting DNSSec at company.com I think all the 1st tier Name servers must support it as well. Part of the inspiration for this question came from our provider UltraDNS. In their configuration screen for our domains, they actively verify and alert us if our name servers aren't exactly: pdns1.ultradns.net pdns2.ultradns.net pdns3.ultradns.org pdns4.ultradns.org pdns5.ultradna.info pdns6.ultradns.co.uk

  • Is my laptop good enough to support my development needs? [closed]

    I have an ASUS Pentium-R Dual Core CPU running at 2.20Ghz. It has 4 gb of built in ram, currently running a 64 bit Windows 7 . I just started graduate school and Im wondering whether I should go in for a new laptop or just repair the nagging battery on my current one. My requirements include - -Ability to support IDE's - I may end up running Eclipse, Visual Studio's and the like to help with my work. - Ability to run multiple VM's (not concurrently). Im currently running a Ubuntu 12 and 9 as VM's (not sure if this is overloading the system) - I'm a non gamer so I really dont care about a minor glitch caused by running a uber heavy game. -In addition I will have heavy use of Office Application Software and will be using my computer to watch movies and stream media. Looking forward to your replies and suggestions!

    We're in the process of installing a brand new Windows Server 2008 Web cluster and we would like to synchronize some files between the servers. The problem is that the DC in the domain is an old Windows Server 2003 Standard (NOT R2) which apparently doesn't contain some extension to the AD schema. Is it possible to upgrade the schema without upgrading the DC servers to R2? When I try to create a Replication Group on the 2008 Server I get the following message: --------------------------- Error --------------------------- srv.XXXXXX.XX: The Active Directory Domain Services schema on domain controller activedc07.srv.XXXXXX.XX cannot be read. This error might be caused by a schema that has not been extended, or was extended improperly. See Help and Support Center for information about extending the Active Directory Domain Services schema. Schema version 30 is not supported. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

  • Android Hero denies XMLSocket or Socket connection? ....errors #2031, #2048

    Hi, I am trying to adapt an existing flash web chat application for the Android mobile phone and I am having this really annoying issue. The server is a custom based solution and can send back both binary messages or XML. So I can use either XMLSocket class or the Socket class to get data from the server. Everything works fine when deployed and I connect from the desktop but when I try it from the android mobile I get the infamous errors #2031, followed by #2048. Now the crossdomain.xml file is rock solid and works well for desktop. When the connect socket method runs I see that the server replies with the crossdomain file but I get the error when running on the mobile. Has anyone bumped into this? Is there some limitation from the mobile phone part. I wasn't able to find anything relevant for this issue, in terms of the phone not allowing Socket or XMLSocket connections. The phone(s) Motorola and HTC run Android 2.1 and indicates the flash FL10,1,123,358 version of flash lite. The issue can be reproduced also on the HTC Desire.     I want to build a shared library using waf as it looks much easier and less cluttered than GNU autotools. Must I specify each and every .c file instead of using a wildcard? How can I enable a debug build for example (currently the wscript is using the debug builds CFLAGS, but I want to make this optional for the end user). It is planned for the library sources to be within a sub directory, and programs that use the lib each in their own sub directories.

  • Is there a JS diff library against htmlstring just like google-diff-match-patch on plain text?

    Currently I am using google-diff-match-patch to implement a real-time editing tool, which can synchronize texts between multiple users. Everything works great when operations are only plain texts, each user's operation(add/delete texts) could be diff-ed out by comparing to old text snapshot with the helper of google-diff. But when rich format texts(like bold/italic) are involved, google-diff not working well when comparing the htmlstring. The occurrence of character of < and > messed up the diff results, especially when bold/italic format are embedded within each other. Could anyone suggest a similar library like google-diff to diff htmlstrings? Or any suggestions can get my problem fixed with google-diff? I understood google-diff is designed for plain text, but really didn't find a better library than it so far, so it also works if a doable enhancement to google-diff can help. Thanks for any comments.   • What library is used for the main menu in the facebook iOS app?

    I'm making an app that has more options than will easily fit into a UITabBarController. I wanted to use something like what the facebook app has for its main menu. My guess is that it isn't proprietary to facebook, because the SCVNGR app uses something similar. This library lets you re-order the icons the way you can re-order the apps from the main menu (i.e. press and hold - icons jiggle - you can drag them around). Does anyone know what library provides this UIView? I'd like to use it if possible. Thanks!

  • Why does Google's closure library not use real private members?

    I've been a JavaScript developer for a while now, and I've always thought that the correct way to implement private members in JavaScript is to use the technique outlined by Doug Crockford here: http://javascript.crockford.com/private.html. I didn't think this was a particularly controversial piece of JavaScript wisdom, until I started using the Google Closure library. Imagine my surprise... the library makes no effort to use Crockford-style information hiding. All they do is use a special naming convention and note "private" members in the documentation. I'm in the habit of assuming that the guys at Google are usually on the leading edge of software quality, so what gives? Is there some downside to following Mr. Crockford's advice that's not obvious?

  • Looking for an automated logging tool/library for .NET!

    Hello, I'm looking for an library/tool for .NET that logs almost everything that happens in my C# application (Windows Form). The problem is that I'm delivering an application to a client (Windows XP) and after doing some task, that classic Microsoft error window appears: "ApplicationName has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" I'm currently handling my application exceptions, but this is something external and I can't get anything from that error, so I would like any automated library that helps me with that. It would work if it logs each line of code executed, orr just log what line was executing before that error appeared, or something that could give me more info about that error. Thank you! P.S: It's a multithreaded application, and have to Timer controls (one for watching a folder every 5secs, and another for watching thread list...). I'm using Windows 7 here and everything seems to work ok.

    Sikuli is really cool, but it's working in its buildin Jython environment, the Sikuli IDE. So I m wondering is it possible to import Sikuli as an external library to my Jython library? I saw from Sikuli's website that they have this Python module which provides all Sikuli actions like click and type. Then in my spike.py script, I try to do this: import python.edu.mit.csail.uid.Sikuli capture() #enter to screen capture mode then when execute the script, I got this error: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no suitable image found. Did find: /eclipse_3.4.2/workspace/Jython/src/tmplib/libVDictProxy.jnilib: no matching architecture in universal wrapper I m using Jython 2.2.1 and Mac 10.6.2 (32-bit mode). I have also set to use 32-bit mode first in Java Preference.

  • ActiveRecord model with datetime stamp with timezone support attribute.

    Rails is great that it will support timezone overall in the application with Time.zone. I need to be able to support the timezone a user selects for a record. The user will be able to select date, time, and timezone for the record and I would like all calculations to be done with respect to the user selected timezone. My question is what is the best practice to handle user selected timezones. The model is using a time_zone_select and datetime_select for two different attributes timezone and scheduled_at. When the model saves, the scheduled_at attribute gets converted to the locally defined Time.zone. When a user goes back to edit the scheduled_at attribute with the datetime_select the datetime is set to the converted Time.zone timezone and not the timezone attribute. Is there a nice way to handle to the conversion to the user selected timezone?

  • Good .NET library for fast streaming / batching trigonometry (Atan)?

    I need to call Atan on millions of values per second. Is there a good library to perform this operation in batch very fast. For example, a library that streams the low level logic using something like SSE? I know that there is support for this in OpenCL, but I would prefer to do this operation on the CPU. The target machine might not support OpenCL. I also looked into using OpenCV, but it's accuracy for Atan angles is only ~0.3 degrees. I need accurate results.

    I'm using Intellij IDEA for IDE, and I like it a lot. However, it does not have any special "Spring support" (plug-ins/tools). My next project uses Spring (which I'm not very familiar with), and I'm wondering whether I should consider changing my IDE from early on; e.g. to SpringSource eclipse/Intellij IDEA Professional. Do you guys have any experience with these IDE-built-in Spring support? Is it worth using?
