  • Why does my MacBook Pro have long ping times over Wi-Fi?

    I have been having problems connecting with my Wi-Fi. It is weird, the ping times to the router (<30 feet away) seem to surge, often getting over 10 seconds before slowly coming back down. You can see the trend below. I'm on a MacBook Pro and have done the normal stuff (reset the PRAM and SMC, changed wireless channels, etc.). It happens across different routers, so I think it must be my laptop, but I don't know what it could be. The RSSI value hovers around -57, but I've seen the transmit rate flip between 0, 48 and 54. The signal strength is ~60% with 9% noise. Currently, there are 17 other wireless networks in range, but only one in the same channel. 1 - How can I figure out what's going on? 2 - How can I correct the situation? Can I trust this stack trace? If not, what can cause this and how I can avoid it? Any ideas about the dead lock based on this stack trace? I don't quite understand how creating a datamodule can dead lock.. I'm using Delphi 2007.

    Attempting to pull my database from Heroku gives an error partway through the process (below). Using: Snow Leopard; heroku-1.8.2; taps-0.2.26; rails-2.3.5; mysql-5.1.42. Database is smallish, as you can see from the error message. Heroku tech support says it's a problem on my system, but offers nothing in the way of how to solve it. Has anyone experienced this and is there some setting that fixes this? I've uninstalled Flash from the system otherwise (Chrome bundles it) so I only use chrome for Flash games, and as a plus the other browsers are quite solid without Flash.

    Hey Guys, I recently started trying to get Redmine up and running after a power outage that seems to have corrupted our InnoDB database in MySQL. Redmine had an extensive set of documentation that I would like to get even if redmine isn't able to run. The service fails on startup. I have tried inserting innodb_force_recovery = 4 per the documentation from the url in the error log. (also tried 1 thru 6 as I have backed up all directories after the corruption) I have verified through "mysqld-nt --print-defaults" that it is starting with the recovery option in the params. The machine is running Windows Server 2003 SP2, Xeon E5335 with 2GB RAM, MySQL is not mirrored to another machine, nor is the machine a mirror. I do not have any backups because the previous person did not set them up.   • Files missing after copying from one sdcard to another using Ubuntu 12.04

    I have two Kingston sdcards 8GB and 32GB. The 8GB for HTC Sensation and 32GB for my Tablet (Chinese). I soon ran out of space on my phone and decided to swap the data between the sdcards. I copied the data of 32GB sdcard to my PC(with Ubuntu 12.04) deleted everything on the 32GB sdcard and copied data from the 8GB sdcard to the other sdcard. At last I copied the data from my PC to the 8GB sdcard(before this I deleted everything that was on it before). Now the problem is that the 8GB sdcard has the data exactly the same, but the 32GB sdcard has some missing data. All my photos(not copied or posted on Facebook) and Songs are lost. Please help as to what I can do to get my data back? I have Android Revolution HD (ICS 4.0.3) on my rooted HTC Sensation (India). I suspect it has something to do with my data loss.

  • SSH Tunneling from Windows to Linux/Ubuntu

    My question is for my girlfriend basicly.... She works at a mall and doesn't do much so she likes to get on myspace and facebook as most girls do and yahoo to check her email. Well she uses her laptop to connect to a wireless network that doesn't allow it.... so I did some research and got putty and connected to my linux box I have here at home and it worked somewhat. My problem is it only views my webpages I have created here on this box it won't go outside of the linux host. I did it like this in putty... port is 1000 and hostname:80 is what I got outa my research then connected after seting up the tunnel bam worked for all webpages on my box but when she puts in www.myspace.com it redirects to my index.php in my var/www and won't travel outside that as I said.. Any help would be much obliged.

  • Jabber Breaks in Empathy

    Using empathy in Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit), everything worked great after initial setup. But after disconnecting and reconnecting, any Jabber connection (GTalk and Facebook Chat) gives a 'network error'. Tried disabling accounts and only connecting to GTalk, same error. Tried removing all accounts, adding GTalk, same error. Upgraded to the dev version of Empathy, connected once, then after going 'offline' and reconnecting, same error. If it just didn't work, I'd wait for some kind of fix. But it did work, but only once per install. How does that happen? Anyone with this problem that solved it?

  • Why does my macbook pro have long ping times over wifi?

    I have been having problems connecting with my wifi. It is weird, the ping times to the router (<30 feet away) seem to surge, often getting over 10s before slowly coming back down. You can see the trend below. I'm on a macbook pro and have done the normal stuff (reset the pram and smc, changed wireless channels, etc.). It happens across different routers, so I think it must be my laptop, but I don't know what it could be. The RSSI value hovers around -57, but I've seen the transmit rate flip between 0, 48 & 54. The signal strength is ~60% with 9% noise. Currently, there are 17 other wireless networks in range, but only one in the same channel. 1 - How can I figure out what's going on? 2 - How can I correct the situation? TIA!   • DNS Round-robin failover and load balancing

    Having read all of the questions and answers (1 2 3 and so on) on here relating to DNS load balancing, and Round-robin DNS, there's still a number of unanswered questions.. Large companies, and I'm looking at Google, Facebook and Twitter here, do present multiple A records. 1) If DNS loadbalancing/failover is so dodgy, why do large organisations do it? There seems to be very little mention of "DNS Pinning", despite this (PDF) paper about it. 2) Why is DNS Pinning so seldom mentioned? 3) Are there any concrete examples of which ISPs and so on actually do rewrite DNS TTLs? That said, I'm not entirely backing the side for using DNS for failover or any form of load balancing. For most networks, BGP diverse routing still seems to be a better fit. DNS rears it's ugly head again. :(

  • Slow git clone and fetch

    I setuped gitosis on a linux server following this tutorial: http://scie.nti.st/2007/11/14/hosting-git-repositories-the-easy-and-secure-way We are using git on our windows machines with TortoiseGit and msysgit. Pushing changes to the server is pretty fast, but when we want to clone or fetch changes from the remote server, it begins really fast (800k/s) and then drop pretty fast to around 3 to 30k/s and it can take forever to update. git-pull for small update is fast, but as soon as we have to download something of more than a few MB, it is slow. We are switching from SVN to git and this is holding us back from using git full time. Thanks!

    Hi all, I have a VPS with 768 MB RAM and a 1.13 GHZ processor. I run a php/mysql dating site and the performance is excellent and server load is generally very low. Sometimes I place ads on Facebook and at peak times I can get 100-150 clicks within a few seconds - this causes the server to run out of memory : Cannot allocate memory: couldn't create child process: /opt/suphp/sbin/suphp .... And all users receive an error 500 page. I am just wondering if this sounds reasonable or not - to me 100-150 does not seem to be a number that should cause apache to run out of memory. Any advice/recommendations how to diagnose the issue highly appreciated.

  • Internet speed is suddenly slow only on my laptop, but it's normal in other devices

    I have a TP-Link router connected to a ZTE modem, with 2 laptops, a tablet, 2 phones connected via the router's WiFi, and an additional desktop connected via ethernet to the router. Today, my laptop started to have a very slow connection to the internet, which at first I thought it was the operator's problem to find out later on that it works fine on other devices. I tried to connect directly via WiFi to the modem, but it was as slow. I cannot access facebook at all, google takes forever to do a search, and youtube barely works. The weird thing though, is that when youtube does work, the streaming is full speed. This happens also when I download a file! My browse is Firefox, but I used Chrome and IE9 with the same results. I work on Windows 7 Thanks for any advices.

    I can't get out of a login loop of a particular admin user. After entering the password the login screen is shown again after about a minute. Other users work fine. It started happening after a simple reboot. Can you please help me? Thank you!
