  • Using SSH, transfer webURL to remote machine

    Hi so i was doing some research in the library so i could use some pictures later on my Desktop computer in my room. I have space on my Lab account which i usually SSH into, and i was wondering if URL's can be directly transferred over to a remote machine and saved on the hard disk. I was thinking something like this: scp http://click.si.edu/images/truncatedurl.jpg /home3/etc.../filename.jpg is this possible? Thanks in advance.

  • Can not get sound over hdmi in kubuntu 9.10

    I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. The hardware itself is working probably - I tested it under windows. Currently I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64 with Nvidia 190.53. The sound output worked fine before I installed the hdmi connection.   • Western Digital External 1TB HDD, possible to mount internally?

    I have an external WD MyBook. it has USB, Firewire and e-sata connectors, but I would like to mount it internally in my desktop system instead for extra performance, and I'm also considered about how long it will last externally. Does anyone know if this is possible? Has anyone done this with success? I would have to remove it from the existing external chasis, but before I mess around with this, I would like to know if its even possible. Thanks in advance

I have to test some websites in resolution 1900 x 1200, how can i test? Is there any concept of virtual desktop using which i can simulate resolution 1900 x 1200. I have windows xp installed. thanks

    Apparently, on my notebook, I have suddenly lost any ability to use network connections, involving SSL and/or data encryption, provided my MS: 1) remote desktop connections: Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end 2) browse HTTPS sites: Can't browse HTTPS pages. TLS error 3) communicate over WiFi, while wired is ok Is there any possible one central reason for all of these problems in Windows? Third party applications, like Putty, works fine. Is it possible to reset/repair certificate store or something in Windows?

  • Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 crashes - ieframe.dll

    Outlook 2010 is crashing rather randomly, not at any specific time like opening a preview pane or message. Event viewer gives the following Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 14.0.6131.5000, time stamp: 0x509b1020 Faulting module name: ieframe.dll, version: 9.0.8112.16464, time stamp: 0x50ec98f5 Similar events have been logged only with URLMON.DLL, but with ieframe.dll more frequent. I'm looking where to start with this problem, and I'm starting with running outlook in safe mode using Outlook /safe from the start menu. Further complicating this issue are 2 programs syncing email to other calenders. Should I start with these additional programs that are syncing email as being possible culprits? Or does this have to do with Internet Explorer because of the DLL associated with these crashes? I've tried regsvr32 with both DLL's mentioned, with ieframe being unsuccessful. So my question is: what's causing Outlook to crash?

    I have Google Apps installed and I have tried to set up Outlook 2007 to send messages via SMTP. I followed the guide, selecting what I believe are all the correct settings. Yes, I am using POP for incoming, that is intentional but I don't believe it should affect outgoing messages. When I log into gmail (google apps) for my company, I can send a message that has an 8MB attachment (pdf file, not zipped or anything) and it sends fine. However, when I send the same message in Outlook with that same 8mb attachment it fails. Why am I unable to send an attachment with Outlook via SMTP that I am able to send via Gmail / Google Apps?     I am very new to linux and I do some programming for school in Eclipse. However I stumbled upon bug in eclipse and the suggestion was to install eclipse 3.5.1-0 ubuntu7 using Synaptic. I opened synaptic but it said that the latest version was just eclipse 3.5.1-0 ubuntu3 so installed it anyway however the bug is still there and I'd like to install eclipse 3.5.1-0 ubuntu7 but I don't know how since Synaptic insists that the latest version is ubuntu3.     I'm using Debian Testing together with the Deb Multimedia (previously Debian Multimedia) repository for testing. I want to reduce the priority of the deb-multimedia packages so it only installs certain packages. I've tried with: Package: * Pin: release o="Unofficial Multimedia Packages" Pin-Priority: 10 and Package: * Pin: origin "mirror.home-dn.net" Pin-Priority: 10 But neither works, the packages still have the default priority (500). The Release file from the repository looks like this: Archive: testing Version: None Component: main Origin: Unofficial Multimedia Packages Label: Unofficial Multimedia Packages Architecture: amd64 What am I doing wrong?     My company uses an internal management software for storing products. They want to transpose all the products in a MySql database so they can do available their products on the company website. Notice: they will continue to use their own internal software. This software can exports all the products in various file format (including XML). The syncronization not have to be in real time, they are satisfied to syncronize the MySql database once a day (late night). Also, each product in their software has one or more images, then I have to do available also the images on the website. I thought about just renaming the current install to something like c:\apache2_old and if something fails, I can delete the new install and rename c:\apace2_old back to c:\apache. What do you all think?

    Hello I installed Outlook (2007) since it's the most used PIM that can sync with a BlackBerry, but I find its UI ugly, and the different dialogs contain way too much items for my use. Does someone know of a good alternative? Ideally, it should be able to sync with BlackBerry directly, but I can live with one that goes through Outlook for synchronization. FWIW, I prefer desktop applications to eg. Google apps. Thank you.

    The old advice to set the REG_DWORD value named RPEnabled (some sources claim it's RPEnable) under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer to 0 doesn't work anymore since the Consumer Preview (i.e. now also for the Release Preview). Yes, I tried both RPEnabled and RPEnable. How can I log into the system and be presented the desktop instead of the metro start screen? I got rid of the lock screen already, so this is the missing piece in the puzzle of making Windows 8 Release Preview usable.

    I am trying to open port 80 and 3690 for HTTP and svnserve respectively. I have Windows Firewall off, and have tried temporarily disabling Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise, to no avail. According to http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/, both ports 80 and 3690 are still blocked. I can't think of what would be blocking them if Windows Firewall and my antivirus are disabled. The fact that these are android devices is not very important I am curious about the general approach to doing video walls with many separated devices.   • slow startup of event viewer on windows 7 but fast on server 2008

    Hi, Since switching to Windows 7 for my desktop I've started to get really p***ed off at the length of time it takes to start the event viewer to display the application event log (typically 20-30 secs or disk griding - presumably to load and cache all the events) I've just noticed that on server 2008 R2 it seems instantaneous. Is my experience typical? Is there any setting I can tweak to make it fast on Windows 7 as well? Tim
