• OpenVPN on Ubuntu 11.10 - unable to redirect default gateway

  I'm trying to connect to connect to OpenVPN server from my Ubuntu 11.10 machine. I use the following command to do it (under root user): openvpn --config /home/vladimir/client.ovpn Everything seems to be OK, it connects normally without any warnings and errors, but when I try to browse the internet I see that I still use my own IP address, so VPN connection doesn't work. When I run openvpn command, it displays the following message among others: NOTE: unable to redirect default gateway -- Cannot read current default gateway from system I think it's the cause of this problem, but unfortunately I don't know how to fix it.   I just added this to my web.xml on my JBOSS server. But it had no effect. I am still allowed to connect to ports that do not use bi-directional certificate exchange. • MSBuild fails, but building inside Visual Studio works fine

  C#, .NET 2.0 I have an ASP.NET website in a solution, with 2 other projects (used as library references). When I build (debug or release) in Visual Studio, everything works fine. However, building with MSBuild fails. This build had been working (it's actually invoked via a nAnt task). The only thing that has changed is that I have a new user control whose Type I am referencing in my code behind. The offending code is in my ASPX code behind. MessageAlert is the UserControl: MessageAlert userControl = this.LoadControl("~/UserControls/MessageAlert.ascx") as MessageAlert; userControl.UserMessage = message; this.UserMessages.Controls.Add(userControl); In order to get Visual Studio to recognize the type 'MessageAlert' I had to: 1) Set the ClassName="MessageAlert" in the @Control markup at the top of the user control (because using the auto-generated UserControls_MessageAlert wasn't working either) 2) Register the user control in the markup of my ASPX, using an @Register 3) Add a "using ASP" to the top of my code behind After those steps, I could successfully reference the MessageAlert type in my codebehind from visual studio. But from MSBuild I get "The type or namespace name 'MessageAlert' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) " The MSBuild execution is very simple - it points the the very same solution file and sets the configuration property to release. It seems, based on the # of steps I had to go through to get Type references to MessageAlert in Visual Studio, that there is something missing in the MSBuild process. But what? Doesn't Visual Studio in fact invoke MSBuild behind the scenes? Is there a better way to reference a UserControl type in the code behind of an ASPX? EDIT: To clarify, the MessageAlert user control is not in the other referenced assemblies/projects. I mentioned them because, together with the website, the compose the Solution file, which is the same sln file being built by MS Build.

• WCF Timeout issue - should there even be a socket connection?

  I have a .Net application which is split into a client and server side. The communication between them is handled using WCF. I'm not using the automagic service references, but instead I've built the connection manually like described in the Screencast by Miguel Castro. Summarized this means that I create a console application on the server side that holds ServiceHost objects for the different services: var myServiceHost = new System.ServiceModel.ServiceHost(typeof(MyService), new Uri("net.tcp://localhost:8002")); myServiceHost.Open(); And on the client side I have service proxies creating channels using the ChannelFactory: IMyService proxy = new ChannelFactory<IMyService>("MyServiceEndpoint").CreateChannel(); The client and server side share the service contract defined in the interface IMyService. And another advantage is that I get minimal App.config files - without all the autogenerated stuff created through the Service References. Example from client side: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://localhost:8002/MyEndpoint" binding="netTcpBinding" contract="IMyService" name="MyServiceEndpoint"/> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> So - to my problem. I create the proxy once, and it holds a channel all the way through the application. However, if I leave the application without use for a few minutes the channel has timed out, and I get the following exception: The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '00:00:59.9979998'. How do I prevent this? I'm assuming I need to specify a higher timeout in my configuration? But I don't want it to ever time out. But on the other hand - I don't want a socket connection! Do I need one? Thought I could go connection less with WCF... What's the permanent solution and best practice on solving this? Set timeout to "never".. Create a new channel for each request? I'm assuming there is some overhead creating the channel?.. Increase the timeout to e.g. 5minutes and create new channel if the connection did timeout? Make it connection less somehow? (Without the overhead of creating channels..) Something else...

• Cannot install .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows XP SP3

  I'm using Windows XP SP3 logged in as the administrator. I had RAID Mirroring running. The motherboard broke earlier in the year. When I got a new battery I did not resync. I just use the disks as two separate disks. I searched Google for the errors but I didn't find anything detailed enough. • Dynamic DNS registration for VPN clients

  I've got a VPN server set up in my Active Directory on a remote network. (VPN Server is separate box from DNS/AD) When I dial into the network (client machine is not a member of the AD) the machine does not register its IP or Hostname in the DNS. I've played with all possible combinations of DHCP and RRAS-allocated IP pools, and none of them seem to cause my client to register. Is it because my client has to be a member of the domain? Are there some security settins I can tweak so that it can register its hostname/ip? I've looked in the event logs (System and Security) for the AD, DNS, DHCP, RRAS, and the client machine, and don't see anything relating to DNS Registration. I found this great article in Microsoft's KB. So the problem here is that the VPN Server "pre-reserves" the DHCP addresses, but then you have to add the DHCP Relay Agent to relay the secondary request for scope options. My problem is that the DHCP Relay Agent isn't relaying to the local DHCP server (same box as the VPN/RRAS). I've configured the DHCP Relay Agent according to this KB, but it dosn't work for a local DHCP server. (I see the request count increasing, but no responses) I was able to get everything working by specifying the DNS server and domain name in the VPN connection properties on the client. But am still unable to assign it (or the default gateway) dynamically via DHCP. The client also has to be a member of the remote domain.

  Lets say I want to make a control to select any integer number by dragging on a "bar" with numbers: (156 is selected) Mousedown on "159" and dragging towards the left and then doing mouseup changes the control to this: (160 is selected) I've been experimenting for the past 3 hours but I'm inexperienced in Silverlight so I'm having problems getting started. My current guess is I should seperate this into 2 steps: Step 1: Build this control without swiping behavior. Just 2 buttons to go up a number or go down a number Step 2: Replace the buttons by handling mouse events. With my limited knowledge I think I would manage building a crappy control that does this, with very messy xaml and c# and lots of headaches when trying to apply styling and fancy state transitions, but I was hoping some xaml wizards could get me started with the basic approach? • Programmatically change the default code page in Windows XP? (from Delphi)

  Could anyone advise how to programmatically change the default Windows XP code page (I'm doing this from Delphi)? (This would be the equivalent of going into Control Panel - Regional Settings - Language for non-Unicode applications). In this case, I want to switch to Chinese (PRC) and so am writing to the following registry strings: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage\ ACP=936 MACCP=10008 OEMCP=936 (Which is exactly what changing the non-Unicode codepage drop down in Control Panel does). There must be another setting which I need to change - and I'd prefer to use a Win API call (if available) rather than writing to the registry myself. I've also tried setting HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language\ Default=0804 (Chinese PRC) to no avail. I don't want to change the 'locale' per se as this will also change time / date settings, separators, etc. etc. This is because I'm using an ANSI application that needs to render Chinese characters, and I'm writing a tool to automatically switch the system show the characters (while leaving other aspects of the UI intact).   For some reason, we can't update the SVN in some build machines. Installed svn version is 1.3.x. But Hudson slave used 1.6 to create a checkout.   I am trying to use OpenVPN to access the internet over a secure connection. I have openVPN configured and running on Amazon EC2 in bridge mode with client certs.   I used to use SVN 1.4 on OS X Leopard and everything was fine. A couple of weeks ago I installed a fresh copy of OS X 10.6. The version of SVN that comes with Snow Leopard is 1.6.5. I went ahead and built my own copy with 1.6.6. I'm using the built in apache server and just hosting repositories locally. Everything appeared to work fine until I actually tried to commit something. Everytime I try to commit a change, I get the following message: Transmitting file data .svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: MERGE of '/svn/svn2': 409 Conflict (http://localhost) This happens with my old repositories, so I created a couple of new ones. Same deal. I also tried using the 1.6.5 version that comes with the system...same. Finally, I tried upgrading to the latest stable SVN (1.6.9) and still got the same problem.   Hello Experts, I would be greatful for help, understanding how long it takes to establish a TCP connection when I have the Ping RoundTripTip: According to Wikipedia a TCP Connection will be established in three steps: 1.SYN-SENT (=>CLIENT TO SERVER) 2.SYN/ACK-RECEIVED (=>SERVER TO CLIENT) 3.ACK-SENT (=>CLIENT TO SERVER) My Questions: Is it correct, that the third transmission (ACK-SENT) will not yet carry any payload (my data) but is only used for the connection establishement.(This leads to the conclusion, that the fourth packt will be the first packt to hold any payload....) Is it correct to assume, that when my Ping RoundTripTime is 20 milliseconds, that in the example given above, the TCP Connection establishment would at least require 30 millisecons, before any data can be transmitted between the Client and Server? I've noticed common tactic is: - on DB side: implement one role for application, used for all app's users - definition users right and roles and assign users to proper group - Client side: add to Business Object's getters/setters rights checker allowing write / display data for particular user My concern is if this is really good approach from security perspective. It looks DB sends all information to Client, and then client's logic decide what to display or not. So, potentially advanced user can make query from their box and see/change anything. Isn't it?

• Pdssql.dll cannot be found

  I am attempting to open a Crystal Reports 8.5 document, and when I try to set the database to the Production data server, i get the error "Pdssql.dll cannot be found". Googling, this is a common problem, but none of the fixes I tried seem to work. This is a new computer. I do have SQL Server 2008 client tools installed, but I believe previously I had Sql Server 2005 client tools. I attempted to install the SQL Server 2005 client tools, but that didn't go through due to me having 2008 installed. I require 2008 to do my job now. Everything I search for says this is a 16bit driver, and I need to install the 2005 client tools. Unfortunately this cannot be done due to me having 2008. is there some sort of work-around I can do? Thanks

  Apparently the DateTimePicker does not "respect" or adhere to the CurrentUICulture of a .NET application, because DateTimePicker is a "Native" Common-control with a .NET wrapper (I think). I have a requirement to display "AM/PM" regardless of the regional settings of the PC running my .NET Winforms application. I would rather not re-implement my own DateTimePicker control, which adheres to the CurrentIUCulture. So does anybody know of a work-around or have a link to DateTimePicker control re-implementation?
