  • Specify IP address of WCF endpoint at runtime

    I have a bunch of remote machines all running the same WCF service over HTTP. I have a central configuration utility that needs to decide at runtime which of these to connect to. I do not want to define all the endpoints in the configuration file because this is all database driven. I naively tried this: CustomerServiceClient GetClientForIPAddress(string ipAddress) { string address = String.Format("http://{0}/customerservice.svc", ipAddress); var client = new CustomerServiceClient("?", address); return client; } where CustomerServiceClient is my service reference proxy class, but (unsurprisingly) it gave me the following error: Could not find endpoint element with name '?' and contract 'SkyWalkerCustomerService.ICustomerService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this name could be found in the client element. So how do I declare an endpoint at runtime and point my service reference to it? .NET 3.5

    I'm having problems getting AppendHeader to work properly if I am also using an authorize filter. I'm using an actionfilter for my AJAX actions that applies Expires, Last-Modified, Cache-Control and Pragma (though while testing I have tried including it in the action method itself with no change in results). If I don't have an authorize filter the headers work fine. Once I add the filter the headers I tried to add get stripped.   • Access violation of member of pointer object

    So I am coding this client/server program. This code is from the client side. The client has an instance of an object mpqs_sieve *instance_; The reason I make it as a pointer is, that mpqs_sieve only has a constructor that takes 3 arguments, and I want to instantiate it at a later point in time. The client first gets some data from the server, and uses this to instantiate instance_. After this, it will request some more data, and upon receiving this (these are three coeffecients for a quadratic polynomial), it should set these in the instance_ object. However upon calling a member function of instance_, I get an access violation on one of the members of instance_ within that function call. I posted my code here: on pastebin, and I get the error on line 100. The call comes from line 71, and before that line 21. Any ideas to solve this? Thanks!

  • WCF Certificates without Certificate Store

    My team is developing a number of WPF plug-ins for a 3rd party thick client application. The WPF plug-ins use WCF to consume web services published by a number of TIBCO services. The thick client application maintains a separate central data store and uses a proprietary API to access the data store. The thick client and WPF plug-ins are due to be deployed onto 10,000 workstations. Our customer wants to keep the certificate used by the thick client in the central data store so that they don't need to worry about re-issuing the certificate (current re-issue cycle takes about 3 months) and also have the opportunity to authorise the use of the certificate. The proposed architecture offers a form of shared secret / authentication between the central data store and the TIBCO services. Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with the proposed architecture our team is not able to change it and must work with what’s been provided. Basically our client wants us to build into our WPF plug-ins a mechanism which retrieves the certificate from the central data store (which will be allowed or denied based on roles in that data store) into memory then use the certificate for creating the SSL connection to the TIBCO services. No use of the local machine's certificate store is allowed and the in memory version is to be discarded at the end of each session. So the question is does anyone know if it is possible to pass an in-memory certificate to a WCF (.NET 3.5) service for SSL transport level encryption? Note: I had asked a similar question (here) but have since deleted it and re-asked it with more information.

    I have some basic confusion about how transactions and msdtc work together. I have a basic server/client winforms app. The app uses transactionscope to encapsulate several sql commands that are executed on the sql server. The app seemed to work fine when I enabled msdtc network access on the server only. Then one day it stopped working saying network access was not enabled. Now it seems that I have to enable msdtc network access on both the client computer and server for transactionscope to work. Does the client or server msdtc service do the transaction work? Or maybe its both? Does anyone have guidance on whether msdtc network access is needed on both client and server or just server?

    I have a copy of client database say 'DBCopy' which already contains modified data. The copy of the client database (DBCopy) is attached to the SQL Server where the Central Database (DBCentral) exists. Then I want to update whatever changes already present in DBCopy to DBCentral. Both DBCopy and DBCentral have same schema. How can i do it programatically using C#.NET maybe with a button click. Can you give me an example code as how to do it?. I am using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and VS 2008 SP1. In the actual scenario there are about 7 client database all with same schema as the central database. I am bringing copy of each client database and attach it to Central Server where the central database resides and try to update changes present in each copy of the client database to central database one by one programatically using C# .NET . The clients and the central server are physically seperate machines present in different places. They are not interconnected. I need to only update and insert new data. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

  • Why does one loop take longer to detect a shared memory update than another loop?

    I've written a 'server' program that writes to shared memory, and a client program that reads from the memory. The server has different 'channels' that it can be writing to, which are just different linked lists that it's appending items too. The client is interested in some of the linked lists, and wants to read every node that's added to those lists as it comes in, with the minimum latency possible. I have 2 approaches for the client: For each linked list, the client keeps a 'bookmark' pointer to keep its place within the linked list. It round robins the linked lists, iterating through all of them over and over (it loops forever), moving each bookmark one node forward each time if it can. Whether it can is determined by the value of a 'next' member of the node. If it's non-null, then jumping to the next node is safe (the server switches it from null to non-null atomically). This approach works OK, but if there are a lot of lists to iterate over, and only a few of them are receiving updates, the latency gets bad. The server gives each list a unique ID. Each time the server appends an item to a list, it also appends the ID number of the list to a master 'update list'. The client only keeps one bookmark, a bookmark into the update list. It endlessly checks if the bookmark's next pointer is non-null ( while(node->next_ == NULL) {} ), if so moves ahead, reads the ID given, and then processes the new node on the linked list that has that ID. This, in theory, should handle large numbers of lists much better, because the client doesn't have to iterate over all of them each time. When I benchmarked the latency of both approaches (using gettimeofday), to my surprise #2 was terrible. The first approach, for a small number of linked lists, would often be under 20us of latency. The second approach would have small spats of low latencies but often be between 4,000-7,000us! Through inserting gettimeofday's here and there, I've determined that all of the added latency in approach #2 is spent in the loop repeatedly checking if the next pointer is non-null. This is puzzling to me; it's as if the change in one process is taking longer to 'publish' to the second process with the second approach. I assume there's some sort of cache interaction going on I don't understand. What's going on?

    Would a RSA encrypted Diffie-Hellman handshake enable secure communication? I'm encrypting communication from a silverlight client to a php webservice. The silverlight client initiates they key agreement by sending the RSA public key encrypted DH parameters to the webservice. Only the webservice has the private key, so a MITM attack is not possible. The webservice sends plain text answer back to the client, and a key is agreed upon. This key is then used to encrypt communication between the webservice and silverlight client with AES, which is also encrypted with the RSA public key. Does anyone see a flaw?

  • Connecting to Python XML RPC from the Mac

    Hi, I wrote an XML RPC server in python and a simple Test Client for it in python. The Server runs on a linux box. I tested it by running the python client on the same linux machine and it works. I then tried to run the python client on a Mac and i get the following error socket.error: (61, 'Connection Refused') I can ping and ssh into the linux machine from the Mac. So i dont think its a configuration or firewall error. Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?   • ScrollBars are not visible after changing positions of controls inside a Canvas

    Hi, I created a custom canvas control inheriting from WPF Canvas. I am using it like this in main window - <ScrollViewer HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <RTD:RTDesignerCanvas Margin="5" Background="White" x:Name="canvas1" Focusable="True" AllowDrop="True"> </RTD:RTDesignerCanvas> </ScrollViewer> Everyhting works fine but when I try to set the position of controls inside it like this Canvas.SetTop(item, 200); scrollbars are not visible and control is hiddedn down somewhere. Intrestingly, if I add another control to it scroll bars are visible and I can scroll downwards to see the previous control. I tried to use base.InvalidateVisual(); base.UpdateLayout(); base.InvalidateArrange(); after changing items Top or Left but nothing happens; Am I missing something or this happens due to some bug?

  • Capture Silverlight 4 event when panel clicked

    I have a small Silverlight 4 app that essentially consists of a grid containing a label and a combo box. When I click the label, I replace it with a second text box so that I can edit the label (much the way you can edit the name of a Silverlight control in VS2010). I have a LostFocus event handler on the text box that will end editing when the control loses focus (restoring the updated label). Trouble is, users tend to click on the panel when they are done editing rather than on another control (or hitting Enter, which is also supported). I tried adding a left mouse down event handler to the panel. However, that only fires when the text box does not have the focus (I guess the text box captured the mouse?) Is there an approach to recognize that a non-input control was clicked that would enable me to terminate edit mode?

When the control loads the control is inactive (does not responds to events, control not fully rendered etc). After much search I discovered that COM objects using reg-free-com use the miscStatus attribute to set the initial state to get correctly activated. I know how to use it with a comClass which corresponds to a native COM Object. 1) What is the equivalent of the following for clrClass element which corresponds to a COM-interop object? <comClass clsid="{qqqqqqqq-wwww-eeee-rrrr-00C0F0283628}" tlbid="{xxxxxxxx-yyyy-zzzz-aaaa-0000F8754DA1}" threadingModel="Both" progid="SomeCompany.SomeOleControl" description="Some ActiveX Control" miscStatus="recomposeonresize,insideout,activatewhenvisible,nouiactivate" > 2) The COM client I am using is Visual FoxPro. If the (1) is not possible what can I do in VFP to activate the inactive ActiveX control. First I broadcast a message and then I wait for a response from the server. A test I made with the server written in C++ and running in Windows Vista, client written in C# and run on the same machine with server. Problem is: The server can receive message which client broadcast, but client can not receive anything from server. I try to write a client with C++ and it work like a charm, I think my problem is in C# client.
