• How to make screenshots using VMWare tool "vmrun"?

  Hi everybody! I'm currently working with the vmrun-Tool, to control VMWare Virtual Machines. I'm using VMWareWorkstation 7.0.0/7.0.1 and VMWarePlayer 3.0.0 on Windows 7 x64. I simply want to take a screenshot of each virtual machine which is powered on. Listing the power-on virtual machines is quite simply and works! (vmrun list) But the captureScreen command doesn't work. I have tryed serveral commandline options. for example: vmrun -T ws captureScreen %VMPATH% %OUTPUTPATH% I get no error message, but the console is blocked (and the command never finishes). I have also tryed to include -gu USERNAME and -gp PASSWORD, but it result in the same problem. Sorry for my English and thanks for your help in advance!!!

• error when installing mysql ruby gem on OSX 10.6.3

  So I am getting the same issue as mentioned here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1366746/gem-install-mysql-failure-in-snow-leopard But I haven't been able to get it fixed using the answers on this link. Here's a brief history - I had MAMP on my machine, but now I downloaded the latest MySQL from mysql.com and installed version 5.1.46 this new version runs fine and client "mysql" is able to connect and I also have XCode v3.2.1, since someone mentioned that it can cause issues. Here's the error - **Building native extensions. This could take a while... • How does the same origin policy apply to IP addresses

  I have a server on our company intranet that runs JBoss. I want to send API calls to this server from my machine, also on the intranet, and get the resulting XML responses using JQuery. I read the entry on Wikipedia but am confused how that applies to my situation, since our machines only have IP addresses, not domain names. I have server URL: 10.2.200.3:8001/serviceroot/service client IP address: 10.2.201.217 My questions are: As far as I understand these are different domains, right? So I have to use a proxy to issue JQuery.ajax calls to the server If I want to avoid doing (2), can I install Apache on the server and server the page with JS code form there? But then the JS will be from 10.2.200.3 and the server is at 10.2.200.3:8001. Aren't these considered different domains according to policy? Thanks!

• Visual Studio 2008 Add-in: App.config and web services.

  I have created a visual studio add-in for VS2008. The add-in uses as web service to access data required by the developer. However, currently the only way to get the service to work is to add the service bindings to the machine.config of the pc. I know this is a bad idea and its causing errors left and right in my other applications. I have tried using app.config along side my add-in but the add-in doesn't seem to use it at all. My service call is being made from a dll referenced by the add-in would that make a difference?

• Find out if assembly is signed with Authenticode

  I use an assembly of a 3rd party vendor. In an older version this assembly used authenticode. This caused the assembly loading to last quiet long. The developer of the vendor told me that the new version is not signed with authenticode. How can I check if this is true. On my development machine the assembly loading was quiet fast. Only on client machines it took quiet a while. Is it possible to check this using a network sniffer? Regards

  I have the RC build of VS2010 installed on my computer. Now that the RTM build is out, I want to upgrade. Aside from the main Visual Studio package and .NET Framework 4, what else should I remove before I install the RTM build in order to minimize potential breakage/conflicts? VS2010 installs a whole bunch of ancillary packages and I'm not sure which ones have been upgraded between RC and RTM. (Extra credit: I've got another machine that is still running Beta 2. Would the procedure be the same?)

  consider the program below char str[5]; strcpy(str,"Hello12345678"); printf("%s",str); When run this program gives segmentation fault. But when strcpy is replaced with following, program runs fine. strcpy(str,"Hello1234567"); So question is it should crash when trying to copy to str any other string of more than 5 chars length. So why it is not crashing for "Hello1234567" and only crashing for "Hello12345678" ie of string with length 13 or more than 13. This program was run on 32 bit machine .

  Now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out, I tried to install it on my development machine, which already has Visual Studio 2010 RC installed and I got this error message during installation Component Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 has failed to install with the following error message: "A different version of ASP.NET MVC 2 is already installed on your system. Please uninstall this version before proceeding with this install." Sure enough, the MVC 2 release notes state: Note Because Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 RC share a component of ASP.NET MVC 2, installing the ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM release on a computer where Visual Studio 2010 RC is also installed is not supported. So my question is, though officially unsupported, if I uninstall VS 2010 RC, install MVC 2 then re-install VS 2010 RC, might this work? And would I then be able to target MVC 2 in VS2010?

  Hello all, I am having problems with the PHP function unlink. I keep getting this error: Warning: unlink(C:\wamp\www\webs\db\db_1276259188.mdb) [function.unlink]: Permission denied in C:\wamp\www\webs\pure-php-export.php on line 242 I am on a windows machine where Apache runs as the user SYSTEM. I have set the permissions of the db folder as "Full Control" for Apache's user. I thought my script might still be holding on to that file (its an uploaded file that gets used via PDO). try{ $dbh = new PDO("odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb)};Dbq=$mdbFilename", $username, $password); }catch(PDOException $e){ echo $e->getMessage(); } So before I attempt to delete the file I unset the above and try to delete like so: $dbh = null; unset($dbh); if(is_file($mdbFilename)){ unlink($mdbFilename); } I really appreciate any help on this as it has been driving me mental for the past two hours!   Hi folks, I'm trying to implement a "time ago" feature, for the displaying of items on a site. As I'm caching the pages I wish to use javascript in order to render the "time ago". Javascript knows local time and problably the Timezone of the local machine so I could play with that, but that would require to hard code the server's timezone. Therefore I'm trying to figure out a simple way to pass a ISO 8601 timestamp, in GMT time. Is there any simple and straight forward way for doing this? Help would be much appreciated! =)

• How can I exceed the 60% Memory Limit of IIS7 in ASP.NET Caching application

  Pardon if this is more serverfault vs. stackoverflow. It seems to be on the border. We have an application that caches a large amount of product data for an e-commerce application using ASP.NET caching. This is a dictionary object with 65K elements, and our calculations put the object's size at ~10GB. Problem: The amount of memory the object consumes seems to be far in excess of our 10GB calculation. BIGGEST CONCERN: We can't seem to use over 60% of the 32GB in the server. What we've tried so far: In machine.config/system.web (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): processModel autoConfig="true" memoryLimit="80" In web.config/system.web/caching/cache (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): privateBytesLimit = "20000000000" (and 0, the default of course) percentagePhysicalMemoryUsedLimit = "90" Environment: Windows 2008R2 x64 32GB RAM IIS7 Nothing seems to allow us to exceed the 60% value.   Suppose I have two documents that are identical except the lines are shuffled. Is there a tool that can show me which lines in document A correspond to which lines on document B by drawing lines to connect them (kinda like Cairo does for machine translation word alignments)? What if the files have some level of differing lines (I don't want to figure out which lines are similar to each other -- if there isn't an exact match for a line, then that line has no match.) Note: I am not looking to sort the files and compare them, rather I am looking to get a visualization of how far out of order the files are relative to each other, and which particular regions tend to move together, and which tend to be shuffled.

• windbg/cdb hangs when bp hit

  I have a problem where cdb or windbg hangs frequently, but not all the time, when I'm debugging with it and I attach to a specific application on my machine. I found this article: http://www.nynaeve.net/?p=164 which talks about a symbol loading race condition being the problem, but I can force load the symbols, actually have a breakpoint in-app work, and still have it hang elsewhere. • Error connecting to online fossil repository after changing password.

  I set up a fossil repository on a shared hosting account I have. I created a perl script fossil.pl that points to a cloned repository that I put up on the webspace. I set all the correct permissions (755). When I go to fossil.pl I get the web ui. Everythings cool. However I'm having a problem with pushes and hoping someone could point me to a solution. When I clone a repository it sets a new password for me (Toby) in the new cloned repository. If I push to this repository online without changing the password it works fine, I can push up changes from my local machine to the online repository. However once I change the password for Toby (to something more easily remembered by me) I get the following error. Bytes Cards Artifacts Deltas Send: 1810 9 0 2 1Server Error: not authorized to write fossil: server says: not authorized to write Anyone know why this is happening? Anyone know how to fix it?

• Starting to make progress Was [MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault]

  Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly. The setter calls are all now implemented in the exaxct order specced in the state diagram. UPDATE 3: I've tried all permission combinations: CAMERA + RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO, CAMERA only, RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO This is driving me bats! :))) UPDATE 4: starting to work... but with puzzling results. Based on info in bug #5050, I spaced everything out. I have now gotten the recorder to actually save a snippet of video (a whole 2160 bytes!), and I did it by spacing the view visibility, prepare() and start() w.a.a.a.a.a.y out (like several hundred milliseconds for each step). I think what happens is that either bringing the surface VISIBLE has delayed processing or else the start() steps on the prepare() operation before it is complete. What is now happening, however, is that my simple timer tickdown counter is getting clobbered. Is it now that the preview and save operations are causing my main process thread to become unavailable? I'm recording only 10fps at 176x144. Referencing the above code, I've added a timer tickdown after setPreviewDisplay(), prepare() and start().   Hi all, I am on Mac Os X 10.5 (but I reproduced the issue on 10.4) I am trying to use iconv to convert an UTF-8 file to ASCII the utf-8 file contains characters like 'éàç' I want the accented characters to be turned into their closest ascii equivalent so my command is this : iconv -f UTF-8 -t ASCII//TRANSLIT//IGNORE myutf8file.txt which works fine on a Linux machine but on my local Mac Os X I get this for instance : è = 'e à = `a I really dont undersatnd why iconv returns this weird output on mac os x but all is fine on linux any help ? or directions ? thanks in advance

• Visual C# Express 2010 Beta 2 install fails [closed]

  I'm trying to install Microsoft Visual C# Express 2010 Beta 2 on my machine but it's not working. It blazes through what should be a 150 MB download then fails installing the very first item after about 5 seconds. I had VS 2010 Beta 1 installed but removed it beforehand. Any tips for installing it right? • Reading Local Group Policy / Active Directory Settings

  I'm writing a C# program that will enforce password complexity in accordance with the Windows Group Policy setting "Password must meet complexity requirements". Specifically, if that policy is set to Enabled either on the local machine (if it's not part of a domain) or by the Domain Security Policy (for domain members), then my software needs to enforce a complex password for its own internal security. The issue is that I can't figure out how to read that GPO setting. Google searches have indicated that I can read GPO settings with one of these two APIs: the System.DirectoryServices library in .NET Framework, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), but I haven't had any success so far. Any insights would be helpful.

• Parse error when trying to install app on Asus eee PC 701 running Android 2.0

  A beta tester of mine has a Asus eee pc 701 running Android 2.0 and he is trying to install an app on it from my web site. He is able to download the app but is getting a "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package" error. I don't really know if this problem is with the eee pc or with the apk since he is the first person to try to install it. I built it for 2.0, the manifest has 5 as the minimum API level and I used Eclipse to export and sign it. But this is my first Android app and he is the first to try to install it, so I am not sure what the problem might be? Could just be the Android implementation too. • WPF Application Hang

  Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Professional (x64) and having installed .NET 4.0 RTM on my machine. Since 2 days I'm noticing that every WPF application that I'm trying to run hangs and becomes non responsive (a not responding text is appended to it's title bar) and it's painted white. There is no info regarding any exception, no error message. Nothing. Even the Event Log shows that there was "application hang" event (code 1002) and nothing more. This problem is for everything that is written in WPF, even for products like NHibernate Profiler and other stuff that I was using on a regular basis without any issues. Tried to reinstall .NET 4.0 and nothing changed. Any ideas why this might be happening?

• How do I shrink my SQL Server Database?

  I have a Database nearly 1.9Gb Database in size MSDE2000 does not allow DBs that exceed 2.0Gb I need to shrink this DB (and many like it at various client locations) I have found and deleted many 100's of 1000's of records which are considered unneeded. these records account for a large percentage of some of the main (largest) tables in the Database. Therefore it's reasonable to assume much space should now be retrievable. So now I need to shrink the DB to account for the missing records I execute "DBCC ShrinkDatabase('MyDB')"......No effect. I have tried the various shrink facilities provided in MSSMS.... Still no effect. I have backed up the database and restored it... Still no effect. Still 1.9Gb Why? Whatever procedure I eventually find needs to be replayable on a client machine with access to nothing other than OSql or similar.

  We have deployed a java webapplication in Elastic Beanstalk with the minimum instance count 1 and max instance count 2 for Autoscaling. The custom AMI we are using is c1.medium with Sun JDK 6. The environment status changed to yellow and then red. After checking into the log file from the snapshot logs we found a exception - Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space. Assuming this could be one of the possible reason for the Environment failure. The settings that we have configured in the Environment Container option are Initial JVM Heap Size (MB) - 256M Maximum JVM Heap Size (MB) - 512m The maximum heap size the java virtual machine will ever consume, specified on the JVM launch command line using -Xmx. Maximum JVM Permanent Generation Size (MB) - 512m Should i increase the Heap size from 512m to more or is it fine.

• Weird behaviour of the app.config deployment after updating it.

  I moved some hardcoded settings to a custom Section (so I did not use the <appSetting tag) in the app.config of my ClickOnce application. When updating, the clients got an error stating that the server gave a 404 not found error for the file "myapp.exe.config.deploy". Browsing on the server I did find the changed app.config there, only it was named app.config.deploy. Thinking to be smart I renamed the app.config to myapp.exe.config on the development machine and published again. That did not work... However after naming the file back to app.config and publishing the error went away and the clients used the setting happily! Please explain what went wrong?
