  • Can I use an NSDecimalNumber anywhere that an NSNumber is expected?

    - by Nick Forge
    NSDecimalNumber is a subclass of NSNumber, and from what I can tell, it implements all of the NSNumber methods as expected for an NSNumber instance. Given that, is it ok to give NSDecimalNumbers to any code that is expecting an NSNumber? The only possible issue might be code that checks that an argument is an instance of NSNumber, but since NSNumber is a class-cluster, code like this would have to check that the instance is a subclass of NSNumber, and NSDecimalNumber instances should pass the same tests.

  • Using a type parameter and a pointer to the same type parameter in a function template

    - by Darel
    Hello, I've written a template function to determine the median of any vector or array of any type that can be sorted with sort. The function and a small test program are below: #include <algorithm> #include <vector> #include <iostream> using namespace::std; template <class T, class X> void median(T vec, size_t size, X& ret) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; ret = size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } int main() { vector<double> v; v.push_back(2); v.push_back(8); v.push_back(7); v.push_back(4); v.push_back(9); double a[5] = {2, 8, 7, 4, 9}; double r; median(v.begin(), v.size(), r); cout << r << endl; median(a, 5, r); cout << r << endl; return 0; } As you can see, the median function takes a pointer as an argument, T vec. Also in the argument list is a reference variable X ret, which is modified by the function to store the computed median value. However I don't find this a very elegant solution. T vec will always be a pointer to the same type as X ret. My initial attempts to write median had a header like this: template<class T> T median(T *vec, size_t size) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; return size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } I also tried: template<class T, class X> X median(T vec, size_t size) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; return size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } I couldn't get either of these to work. My question is, can anyone show me a working implementation of either of my alternatives? Thanks for looking!

  • Use Windbg find argumet passed to a COM+ method

    - by G33kKahuna
    Generated a debug diagnostic dump file for a COM+ application. Upon analysis look like threads deadlocks at line OLE32!SwitchSTA. My symbol path is pointing to msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols. Is there way to know what arguments were passed to this method? In general, how does one use Windbg to find the input argument value to the method call? thanks in advance

  • The patent difference between software and other technologies

    - by hstoerr
    Now and then someone makes a weird argument for software patents. What are the best reasons against software patents? What are the best replies for commonly heard arguments of patent proponents? See also the converse question of the dark side. :-) If you are for patents you might want to answer there to keep the stackoverflow philosophy of answers instead of discussions.

  • Why doesn't ADL find function templates?

    - by Huw Giddens
    What part of the C++ specification restricts argument dependent lookup from finding function templates in the set of associated namespaces? In other words, why won't the following compile? namespace ns { struct foo {}; template<int i> void frob(foo const&) {} } int main() { ns::foo f; frob<0>(f); }

  • jquery - get url path?

    - by KittyYoung
    I know I can use window.location.pathname to return a url, but how do I parse the url? I have a url like this: http://localhost/messages/mine/9889 and I'm trying to check to see if "mine" exists in that url? So, if "mine" is the second piece in that url, I want to write an if statement based on that... if(second argument == 'mine') { do something }

  • how do you make a "concurrent queue safe" lazy loader (singleton manager) in objective-c

    - by Rich
    Hi, I made this class that turns any object into a singleton, but I know that it's not "concurrent queue safe." Could someone please explain to me how to do this, or better yet, show me the code. To be clear I want to know how to use this with operation queues and dispatch queues (NSOperationQueue and Grand Central Dispatch) on iOS. Thanks in advance, Rich EDIT: I had an idea for how to do it. If someone could confirm it for me I'll do it and post the code. The idea is that proxies make queues all on their own. So if I make a mutable proxy (like Apple does in key-value coding/observing) for any object that it's supposed to return, and always return the same proxy for the same object/identifier pair (using the same kind of lazy loading technique as I used to create the singletons), the proxies would automatically queue up the any messages to the singletons, and make it totally thread safe. IMHO this seems like a lot of work to do, so I don't want to do it if it's not gonna work, or if it's gonna slow my apps down to a crawl. Here's my non-thread safe code: RMSingletonCollector.h // // RMSingletonCollector.h // RMSingletonCollector // // Created by Rich Meade-Miller on 2/11/11. // Copyright 2011 Rich Meade-Miller. • Setuptools not passing arguments for entry_points

    - by Austin
    I'm using setuptools for a Python script I wrote After installing, I do: $ megazord -i input -d database -v xx-xx -w yy-yy Like I would if I was running it ./like_this However, I get: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/bin/megazord", line 9, in <module> load_entry_point('megazord==1.0.0', 'console_scripts', 'megazord')() TypeError: main() takes exactly 1 argument (0 given) Which looks like setuptools is not sending my arguments to main() to be parsed (by optparse) Here's my setuptools config for entry_points: entry_points = { 'console_scripts': [ 'megazord = megazord.megazord:main', 'megazord-benchmark = megazord.benchmark:main', 'megazord-hash = megazord.mzhash:main', 'megazord-mutate = megazord.mutator:main', ] } Any ideas?

    I'm building a C project using scons, some internal static libraries are build and the exe files are linked to it. However, setting: env['LIBPATH'] = ['#build/libs'] generates a -Llibs and a -Lbuild/libs argument to gcc: gcc -o edecode main.o pack16.o pack16le.o pack32.o pack32le.o pack64.o -Lbuild/libs -Llibs -lutillib Why's that ? • Char* vs std::string

    - by Lockyer
    Is there any advantage to using char*'s instead of std::string? I know char*'s are usually defined on the stack, so we know exactly how much memory we'll use, is this actually a good argument for their use? Or is std::string better in every way?

  • Why do we need to use out keyword while calling a method

    - by Midhat
    When a method is defined with an out parameter, why do I have to specify the out keyword when calling it. Its already there in the method definition, and the runtime should know that any parameter passed will be an out parameter. It would make sense if the compiler will accept the argument with or without out keyword, with different semantic, but if you MUST add the keyword to make the code compile, whats the use? Shouldn't the compiler handle it automatically? Same for ref

  • Writing a factory for classes that have required arguments

    - by Kyle Adams
    I understand the concept of factory pattern such that you give it something it spits out something of the same template back so if I gave a factory class apple, I expect to get many apples back with out having to instantiate a new apple ever time. what if that apple has a required argument of seed, or multiple required arguments of seed, step and leaf? how do you use factory pattern here? that is how do I use factory pattern to instantiate this: $apple = new Apple($seed, $stem, $leaf);

  • Grails validateable not work for non-persistent domain class

    - by Hoàng Long
    I followed the instruction here: http://www.grails.org/doc/latest/guide/7.%20Validation.html and added into config.groovy: grails.validateable.classes = [liningtest.Warm'] Then added in src/groovy/Warm.groovy (it's a non-persistent domain class): package liningtest import org.codehaus.groovy.grails.validation.Validateable class Warm { String name; int happyCite; Warm(String n, int h) { this.name = n; this.happyCite = h; } static constraints = { name(size: 1..50) happyCite(min: 100) } } But it just doesn't work (both "blank false" & "size: 0..25") for the "hasErrors" function. It always returns false, even when the name is 25. Is this a Grails bug, if yes, is there any work-around? I'm using Grails 1.3.3 UPDATE: I have updated the simplified code. And now I know that constraint "size" can't be used with "blank", but still does not work. My test class in test/unit/liningtest/WarmTests.groovy package liningtest import grails.test.* class WarmTests extends GrailsUnitTestCase { protected void setUp() { super.setUp() } protected void tearDown() { super.tearDown() } void testSomething() { def w = new Warm('Hihi', 3) assert (w.happyCite == 3) assert (w.hasErrors() == true) } } And the error I got: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <testsuite errors="1" failures="0" hostname="evolus-50b0002c" name="liningtest.WarmTests" tests="1" time="0.062" timestamp="2010-12-16T04:07:47"> <properties /> <testcase classname="liningtest.WarmTests" name="testSomething" time="0.062"> <error message="No signature of method: liningtest.Warm.hasErrors() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] Possible solutions: hashCode()" type="groovy.lang.MissingMethodException">groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: liningtest.Warm.hasErrors() is applicable for argument types: () values: [] Possible solutions: hashCode() at liningtest.WarmTests.testSomething(WarmTests.groovy:18) </error> </testcase> <system-out><![CDATA[--Output from testSomething-- ]]></system-out> <system-err><![CDATA[--Output from testSomething-- ]]></system-err> </testsuite> UPDATE 2: When I don't use Unit test, but try to call hasErrors in the controller, it runs but return false value. (hasErrors return false with Warm('Hihi', 3) ). Does anyone has a clue?

  • mysql UNION query not working

    - by kalpaitch
    What am I doing wrong with this: $sql = "SELECT * FROM content WHERE threadName LIKE '%$filter%' ORDER BY lastUpdated desc UNION SELECT * FROM content WHERE threadName NOT LIKE '%$filter%' ORDER BY lastUpdated desc"; The first statement before the UNION works well on its own, but this one above returns: mysql_fetch_array() warning - supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource Am I right in believing that UNION will not return duplicate entries, in which case the second SELECT statement doesn't need to have the NOT LIKE but will just return everything that wasn't listed in the first statement.
