  • How to overwrite an array of char pointers with a larger list of char pointers?

    - by Casey
My function is being passed a struct containing, among other things, a NULL terminated array of pointers to words making up a command with arguments. I'm performing a glob match on the list of arguments, to expand them into a full list of files, then I want to replace the passed argument array with the new expanded one. The globbing is working fine, that is, g.gl_pathv is populated with the list of expected files. However, I am having trouble copying this array into the struct I was given. #include <glob.h> struct command { char **argv; // other fields... } void myFunction( struct command * cmd ) { char **p = cmd->argv; char* program = *p++; // save the program name (e.g 'ls', and increment to the first argument glob_t g; memset(&g, 0, sizeof(g)); g.gl_offs = 1; int res = glob(*p++, GLOB_DOOFFS, NULL, &g); glob_handle_res(res); while (*p) { res = glob(*p, GLOB_DOOFFS | GLOB_APPEND, NULL, &g); glob_handle_res(res); } if( g.gl_pathc <= 0 ) { globfree(&g); } cmd->argv = malloc((g.gl_pathc + g.gl_offs) * sizeof *cmd->argv); if (cmd->argv == NULL) { sys_fatal_error("pattern_expand: malloc failed\n");} // copy over the arguments size_t i = g.gl_offs; for (; i < g.gl_pathc + g.gl_offs; ++i) cmd->argv[i] = strdup(g.gl_pathv[i]); // insert the original program name cmd->argv[0] = strdup(program); ** cmd->argv[g.gl_pathc + g.gl_offs] = 0; ** globfree(&g); } void command_free(struct esh_command * cmd) { char ** p = cmd->argv; while (*p) { free(*p++); // Segfaults here, was it already freed? } free(cmd->argv); free(cmd); } Edit 1: Also, I realized I need to stick program back in there as cmd-argv[0] Edit 2: Added call to calloc Edit 3: Edit mem management with tips from Alok Edit 4: More tips from alok Edit 5: Almost working.. the app segfaults when freeing the command struct Finally: Seems like I was missing the terminating NULL, so adding the line: cmd->argv[g.gl_pathc + g.gl_offs] = 0; seemed to make it work.

  • Overloading new, delete in C++

    - by user265260
i came across this line is stroustrup An operator function must either be a member or take at least one argument of a user-defined type (functions redefining the new and delete operators need not). Dont operator new and operator delete take an user defined type as one of their arguments? what does it mean, am i missing something here

  • Should the PHP community start using more descriptive Exceptions?

    - by fireeyedboy
I work with Zend Framework a lot and I just took a peek at Kohana, and it strikes me as odd that this is a typical scenario in these frameworks: throw Some_Componenents_Exception( 'invalid argument' ); Where I believe this wouldn't be mouch more useful: throw Some_Components_InvalidArgumentException( 'whatever discription' ); Because it is easier to catch. I suspect, but immediately admit it's prejudiced, that the former practice is common in the PHP community. Should we, the PHP community, start using these descriptive types of expections more?

  • Intermittent "Specified cast is invalid" with StructureMap injected data context

    - by FreshCode
I am intermittently getting an System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast is not valid. error in my repository layer when performing an abstracted SELECT query mapped with LINQ. The error can't be caused by a mismatched database schema since it works intermittently and it's on my local dev machine. Could it be because StructureMap is caching the data context between page requests? If so, how do I tell StructureMap v2.6.1 to inject a new data context argument into my repository for each request? Update: I found this question which correlates my hunch that something was being re-used. Looks like I need to call Dispose on my injected data context. Not sure how I'm going to do this to all my repositories without copypasting a lot of code. Edit: These errors are popping up all over the place whenever I refresh my local machine too quickly. Doesn't look like it's happening on my remote deployment box, but I can't be sure. I changed all my repositories' StructureMap life cycles to HttpContextScoped() and the error persists. Code: public ActionResult Index() { // error happens here, which queries my page repository var page = _branchService.GetPage("welcome"); if (page != null) ViewData["Welcome"] = page.Body; ... } Repository: GetPage boils down to a filtered query mapping in my page repository. public IQueryable<Page> GetPages() { var pages = from p in _db.Pages let categories = GetPageCategories(p.PageId) let revisions = GetRevisions(p.PageId) select new Page { ID = p.PageId, UserID = p.UserId, Slug = p.Slug, Title = p.Title, Description = p.Description, Body = p.Text, Date = p.Date, IsPublished = p.IsPublished, Categories = new LazyList<Category>(categories), Revisions = new LazyList<PageRevision>(revisions) }; return pages; } where _db is an injected data context as an argument, stored in a private variable which I reuse for SELECT queries. • Go - Using a container/heap to implement a priority queue

    - by Seth Hoenig
    In the big picture, I'm trying to implement Dijkstra's algorithm using a priority queue. According to members of golang-nuts, the idiomatic way to do this in Go is to use the heap interface with a custom underlying data structure. So I have created Node.go and PQueue.go like so: //Node.go package pqueue type Node struct { row int col int myVal int sumVal int } func (n *Node) Init(r, c, mv, sv int) { n.row = r n.col = c n.myVal = mv n.sumVal = sv } func (n *Node) Equals(o *Node) bool { return n.row == o.row && n.col == o.col } And PQueue.go: // PQueue.go package pqueue import "container/vector" import "container/heap" type PQueue struct { data vector.Vector size int } func (pq *PQueue) Init() { heap.Init(pq) } func (pq *PQueue) IsEmpty() bool { return pq.size == 0 } func (pq *PQueue) Push(i interface{}) { heap.Push(pq, i) pq.size++ } func (pq *PQueue) Pop() interface{} { pq.size-- return heap.Pop(pq) } func (pq *PQueue) Len() int { return pq.size } func (pq *PQueue) Less(i, j int) bool { I := pq.data.At(i).(Node) J := pq.data.At(j).(Node) return (I.sumVal + I.myVal) < (J.sumVal + J.myVal) } func (pq *PQueue) Swap(i, j int) { temp := pq.data.At(i).(Node) pq.data.Set(i, pq.data.At(j).(Node)) pq.data.Set(j, temp) } And main.go: (the action is in SolveMatrix) // Euler 81 package main import "fmt" import "io/ioutil" import "strings" import "strconv" import "./pqueue" const MATSIZE = 5 const MATNAME = "matrix_small.txt" func main() { var matrix [MATSIZE][MATSIZE]int contents, err := ioutil.ReadFile(MATNAME) if err != nil { panic("FILE IO ERROR!") } inFileStr := string(contents) byrows := strings.Split(inFileStr, "\n", -1) for row := 0; row < MATSIZE; row++ { byrows[row] = (byrows[row])[0 : len(byrows[row])-1] bycols := strings.Split(byrows[row], ",", -1) for col := 0; col < MATSIZE; col++ { matrix[row][col], _ = strconv.Atoi(bycols[col]) } } PrintMatrix(matrix) sum, len := SolveMatrix(matrix) fmt.Printf("len: %d, sum: %d\n", len, sum) } func PrintMatrix(mat [MATSIZE][MATSIZE]int) { for r := 0; r < MATSIZE; r++ { for c := 0; c < MATSIZE; c++ { fmt.Printf("%d ", mat[r][c]) } fmt.Print("\n") } } func SolveMatrix(mat [MATSIZE][MATSIZE]int) (int, int) { var PQ pqueue.PQueue var firstNode pqueue.Node var endNode pqueue.Node msm1 := MATSIZE - 1 firstNode.Init(0, 0, mat[0][0], 0) endNode.Init(msm1, msm1, mat[msm1][msm1], 0) if PQ.IsEmpty() { // make compiler stfu about unused variable fmt.Print("empty") } PQ.Push(firstNode) // problem return 0, 0 } The problem is, upon compiling i get the error message: [~/Code/Euler/81] $ make 6g -o pqueue.6 Node.go PQueue.go 6g main.go main.go:58: implicit assignment of unexported field 'row' of pqueue.Node in function argument make: *** [all] Error 1 And commenting out the line PQ.Push(firstNode) does satisfy the compiler. But I don't understand why I'm getting the error message in the first place. Push doesn't modify the argument in any way.

public class WrapperTest { static { print(10); } static void print(int x) { System.out.println(x); System.exit(0); } } In the above code System.exit(0) is used to stop the program. What argument does that method take? Why do we gave it as 0. Can anyone explain the concept? Thanks.

  • Automatically open files given as command line arguments in Python

    - by mk
I have a lot of Perl scripts that looks something like the following. What it does is that it will automatically open any file given as a command line argument and in this case print the content of that file. If no file is given it will instead read from standard input. while ( <> ) { print $_; } Is there a way to do something similar in Python without having to explicitly open each file?

  • GetRef to capture methods?

    - by Thom Smith
I've just discovered VBScript's GetRef function, which gets a reference to the function named by its argument. Is there any way to get a reference to a method in this way? I have a hunch that VBScript doesn't offer the sophistication of binding needed to do so, but it would sure be nice.

  • Remove first and last characters from a string in Lisp

    - by powerj1984
I am passing in command line arguments to my Lisp program and they are formatted like this when they hit my main function: ("1 1 1" "dot" "2 2 2") I have a dot function and would like to call it directly from the argument, but first I must strip the " characters. I tried variations of this function: (defun remove-quotes (s) (setf (aref s 0) '"")) to no avail, Lisp complains that "" is not a member of base-char. Thanks!

  • Using an ampersand in scanf()

    - by Rob
When I compile scanf("%s", &var);, gcc sends back a warning: warning: format ‘%s’ expects type ‘char *’, but argument 2 has type ‘char (*)[20]’ however when I compile scanf("%s", var);, no warning is applied. Both pieces of code work and the book I am reading specifically says to use the ampersand, but even it doesn't in some of the examples. My question is, should I continue to use the ampersand, even when the book doesn't specify?

  • Get invalid user input with a Spring typeMismatch error

    - by TimmyJ
I've implemented a ReloadableResourceBundleMessageSource in my Spring MVC application which I use to display prettier error messages for binding exceptions. The problem I'm having is that, due to a company policy, these errors must be displayed in the following format: [inputData] is not a valid [fieldName]. The field name is accessible by default in my message properties file (as the {0} argument), but I can't figure out a way to display the invalid user input. Is this possible?

  • Library for parsing arguments GNU-style?

    - by Delan Azabani
I've noticed the basic 'style' of most GNU core applications whereby arguments are: --longoption --longoption=value or --longoption value -abcdefg (multiple options) -iuwww-data (option i, u = www-data) They follow the above style. I want to avoid writing an argument parser if there's a library that does this using the above style. Is there one you know of?
