  • Is there any problem with using two slashes in the middle of a URL? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: What does the double slash mean in URLs? I'm working on a mod_rewrite URL structure as follows: http://example.com/search/filter1/filter2/filter3/filter4 There are some conditions where it is OK for the first attribute to be blank, but i want to keep the other attributes in the same position. (Otherwise I can't assume that the attribute in the second position represents what I want it to represent.) However this results in some URLs like this: http://example.com/search//filter2/filter3/filter4 This seems to work in all browsers I've tested (Chrome,Firefox,IE9,IE compatible) and I'm not seeing any errors on the server side, so I can't think of any problems in using it. But it just looks wrong and weird to me and I'm not used to seeing it. Are there any potential downsides to using a structure that encourages URLs like this, or any major reasons no one seems to use it? (Everything I search in Google assumes I'm talking about the two slashes after http:)

  • What is the sudo password after I deleted the password for the user?

    To have an easier access to the computer I deleted the user's password so it is blank. But now I'm still asked to type in a password for sudo actions such as installing programms, etc. I know that this belongs to Ubuntu's outrageous security policy (which is why I use Ubuntu in the first place..) but I don't have any password to enter any more!! The old user password is not accepted and anything else (like just hitting enter) doesn't work either. I already tried the recovery mode (root shell) way passwd USER< but it replied that it can't access the password or it has no authority. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Garbled screen after sleep/suspend with nVidia 8800M GTS Ubuntu 11.10

    Just did a clean install of 11.10, have been using it (and enjoying it!) for about a day now. But it seems that every time I resume from a sleep or blank screen after idling for a while, my desktop, as well as any programs on the screen get "garbled" I had a few windows open and all displayed the same gui glitching except for Chromium (I am guessing because it was minimized to the Unity Launcher, and not currently on the screen when I woke the PC up.) Anyone know what might be causing this, and how I might be able to fix it? I am using a Gateway P-6860FX with a C2D 1.8GHz, and nVidia 8800M GTS 512mb.   • Shutdown problem in ubuntu 12.04 LTS

    I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I'm getting a serious bug: When I try to shutdown my system, my screen goes blank but my CPU fan keeps running, i.e. the processor is still working but I am not able to see anything on my screen. I need to power off my machine for a complete shutdown. I am using a desktop with an Intel P4 processor. I found a solution on the internet involving modifying the GRUB config file. But even after doing so I wasn't able to eliminate the issue.

  • New domain and submission to search engines

    I have registered a new domain with a hosting company. They offer the feature that for each new domain there is an associated placeholder page. Actually it is a "Site not configured page" with some technical text and links to the hosting site. I could: submit its URL to search engines right now remove the page and submit the URL when the site will be online (could be a couple of months) replace the default page with "coming soon" contents and submit the URL opt for simplicity and add a blank html page having a focused and well descriptive title and maybe some meta tag other? I prefer 4 over 3 because at the moment there aren't precise project details to provide. What's the proper way to notify search engines that soon this site will be online, without getting penalized for side effects I'm not considering or aware of?

  • boot problem with ubuntu and windows 8

    i have a hp dv6 system. on which i was having the windows 8 installed. as i was interested in downloading the ubuntu 12.10 along with windows 8(not inside) .i have made separate partition in ubuntu 12.10 but some how it backfires and now i am not able to boot windows 8 and ubuntu. with windows 8 there is no drive to access the drive partition that has OS. with ubuntu i am getting blank screen. i am thinking that i have problem in system partition but i am not able to solve it. Plz help me. i am in a venerable condition... i have tried booting the window with the help of installation cd but iam not succesful in any of the method - 1-reset PC 2-RECOVERY 3- from command prompt i tried to check disks but it is not showing anything

  • [Natty] Disable new invisible border feature? (ruins compiz grid)

    a new "feature" was added recently that adds an invisible border around the windows to grab for resizing (although i thought the new resize grip solved any issues). this annoys me because it destroys the usefulness of the grid plugin of compiz.. i'm not sure if the border is part of compiz or gnome, but i'd like to know how to disable it. i couldn't find any options in ccsm or the window settings in gnome. see the screenshot to see how much waste is causes. these windows should match up instead of having blank space surrounding all of them.

  • Screen rendering problems after upgrading to 12.10

    Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 I'm suffering severe rendering issues in unity: Some parts of any application (for instance Firefox, or emacs, etc) are blank, or are not rendered, or are blinking. Some fonts in an application are not correct rendered, maybe only some part (see Eclipse screenshot). There is some shadows in desktop background. It's something that occurs from time to time (it's works great for hours and suddenly start to give this rendering problems). I was trying to find a bug in launchpad but without success. My card (using i915 module): 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0042] (rev 02) I've tried to reset compiz/unity or gnome but does not help.   • 12.04 boot failure after update

    I am using 12.04 and updated using Synaptic Package Manager. Now, however, when I turn on the machine it fails to boot, just a blank screen. If I shut off the machine and start it again and press F12 (on my laptop) to get the boot menu and select the default for HD-0 it boots OK. I had previously used Update Center and had a similar problem, which I corrected by reverting to "Previous" setup. Are there any fixes for this problem or am I unique in this situation.     The iPad programming guide says I have to include the UIDeviceFamily key in Info.plist. It also says that the transitioning a target to iPad should have added the key. It didn't. I tried creating blank projects, both iPad-only and universal, and neither got that key. Google comes up short too. What's the story on this mysterious key? The simulator doesn't mind the fact it's missing.

The reports I'm working with usually require 1-2 pages for each record. In order to support dual-sided printing of the reports I want to insert a blank page for each record that uses an odd number of pages, ensuring that each new record is printed on the front of each printed page.     Using PHP's Image and GD functions you can use the following method to finally output the php image imagepng($image); Sometimes, for whatever reason the image may not be displayed typically the error is not with the image but with the actual php functions not executing successfully. However this causes a blank image to be returned which doesn't help me.     I'm attempting to match a string that can contain any number of numeric characters or a decimal point using the following regex: ([0-9.])* Here's some C# code to test the regex: Regex regex = new Regex("([0-9.])*"); if (!regex.IsMatch("a")) throw new Exception("No match."); I expect the exception to be thrown here but it isn't - am I using the Regex incorrectly or is there an error in the pattern? EDIT: I'd also like to match a blank string.

    Hello, I'm using SCO Unix, with old version of ghostscript (7.7). When I convert the postscript source file to pdf otput file, It's content is visible on the SCO machine. But when I copy the pdf file into windows, and open it with adobe acrobat, all I can see is a blank page. Does anybody have a solution to this?

I mean when a user touches their iphone screen, drags their finger downwards, and the webview shows a blank spot above the web page I had loaded?     Hi i've tried the following to find the referrer in MSIE / IE7 and IE8 but its returning blank each time; PHP: <? echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; ?> JAVASCRIPT: document.write('Thanks for visiting from ' + document.referrer); Does any know what the issue could be I'm referering using document.location from a page on another domain and work fine with all other browsers minus MSIE.
