• High Server Load cannot figure out why

  My server is currently running CentOS 5.2, with WHM 11.34. Currently, we're at 6.43 to 12 for a load average. The sites that we're hosting are taking a lot time to respond and resolve. top doesn't show anything out of the ordinary and iftop doesn't show a lot of traffic. • facebook connect for android returns a blank login screen?

  Hi, i am trying to use the old facebook connect authentication to authenticate my android client to get the necessary session id's and other credentials thats needed to start using the web service of facebook. the issue i am having is that when my android application launces and tries to load the login page for facebook, that very same login page is blank and it only displays the the facebook logo as the title of the screen.   We have JSF web application that generates XLS file and gives user link to thes file. All works fine if access this file via HTTP. But IE(8) cannot open/save this xls file via HTTPS. • Freemarker/Velocity - date manipulation

  Hello, I have a fairly simple question about these 2 templating engines. I'm trying to make a future/paste date, a fixed time from now, e.g. 18 months ago, or tomorrow. I know that it is possible to do this with a java date object inside a velocity/freemarker template (something like $date.add(2,-18)), but I would like to do this with DateTool or freemarker core. This is something that I see as purely presentational (just think at the default dates you see in flight booking forms), so I can't see any reason why a templating engine shouldn't be able to do this. Is it possible though? If so, how?

If this was any old UITextField (not a search bar) the property would be enablesReturnKeyAutomatically. • The Skyline Problem.

  I just came across this little problem on UVA's Online Judge and thought, that it may be a good candidate for a little code-golf. The problem: You are to design a program to assist an architect in drawing the skyline of a city given the locations of the buildings in the city. To make the problem tractable, all buildings are rectangular in shape and they share a common bottom (the city they are built in is very flat). The city is also viewed as two-dimensional. A building is specified by an ordered triple (Li, Hi, Ri) where Li and Ri are left and right coordinates, respectively, of building i and Hi is the height of the building. In the diagram below buildings are shown on the left with triples (1,11,5), (2,6,7), (3,13,9), (12,7,16), (14,3,25), (19,18,22), (23,13,29), (24,4,28) and the skyline, shown on the right, is represented by the sequence: 1, 11, 3, 13, 9, 0, 12, 7, 16, 3, 19, 18, 22, 3, 23, 13, 29, 0 The output should consist of the vector that describes the skyline as shown in the example above. In the skyline vector (v1, v2, v3, ... vn) , the vi such that i is an even number represent a horizontal line (height). The vi such that i is an odd number represent a vertical line (x-coordinate). The skyline vector should represent the "path" taken, for example, by a bug starting at the minimum x-coordinate and traveling horizontally and vertically over all the lines that define the skyline. Thus the last entry in the skyline vector will be a 0. The coordinates must be separated by a blank space. If I will not count declaration of provided (test) buildings and including all spaces and tab characters, my solution, in Python, is 223 characters long.   I'm using the will_paginate gem for my Rails project and it's working beautifully. Unfortunately, on paginated result sets with a larger number of pages, the link section is too wide. Instead of: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 … 18 19 Next » I would like to show: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 … 18 19 Next » How can I reduce the number of page links being rendered?   In my Google Appengine application I have defined a custom exception InvalidUrlException(Exception) in the module 'gvu'. Somewhere in my code I do: try: results = gvu.article_parser.parse(source_url) except gvu.InvalidUrlException as e: self.redirect('/home?message='+str(e)) ... which works fine in the local GAE development server, but raises <type 'exceptions.SyntaxError'>: invalid syntax (translator.py, line 18) when I upload it. (line 18 is the line starting with 'except') The problem seems to come from the 'as e' part: if I remove it I don't get this exception anymore. However I would like to be able to access the raised exception. Have you ever encountered this issue? Is there an alternative syntax?

  I have a table view with tall cells. About 300 in height. The cells are custom and have an associated nib. In cellForRowAtIndexPath, I access an object in an array using indexPath.row. The object has properties, which I assign to labels on the custom cell. This works fine for the first two cells. Once I scroll enough for the third cell to get created, the app crashes. I wanted to use a small part of this string in the following way: this.smallpart = data.substring(12,18); After some hours of debugging (with a memory visualizer) I found out that the objects field smallpart remembered all the data from data, although it only contained the substring. When I changed the code into: this.smallpart = data.substring(12,18)+""; ..the problem was solved! Now my application uses very little memory now! How is that possible? Can anyone explain this? I think this.smallpart kept referencing towards data, but why? UPDATE: How can I clear the big String then? Will data = new String(data.substring(0,100)) do the thing?

• Flex TextArea leading invalid

  Hi, When I set leading to 0 with Verdana (and others to) for a Flex TextArea I get strange results: fontsize - space between baselines 8 - 10 (125%) 10 - 12 (120%) 12 - 14 (117%) 14 - 17 (121%) 16 - 18 (113%) 18 - 22 (122%) 20 - 25 (125%) 25 - 31 (124%) shouldn't all of these be the same (should only be 100%)? Or least follow a pattern, because I can't se any. :( When i set leading to 0, the space between my baselines should be the same as the font size/height. This is not the case here. How do I know how to get the space between the baseline to be equal to the height of the font?

  I am using the API to understand the performance of Adwords ad campaigns. I need to know how to attribute metrics back to the date dimension. For instance, for a given date, if I have 20 clicks, 18 visits, and 3 goal completions, does it mean that: 1) All of these actions happened on the day in question and are otherwise independent (meaning that the 3 goals could have been for people that clicked any time in the past 30 days, not who clicked on that day) 2) The on-site actions are a subset of the click activity on that day (i.e. on that day, 20 people clicked, 18 registered a real visit, and 3 completed a goal) If it is scenario 2, does that mean there is a need to refresh old rows every day? • Is it acceptible to expect mentoring to replace many years experience?

  Hi all Just a quick question Here's my situation: I've been maintaining, extending and creating websites against a CMS for the last 18 months In that time I've learnt a LOT more about ASP.Net, javascript, and of course the quirks of the CMS we are using My manager wants to get others involved, and I'm expected to mentor another programmer whilst they work on production code Now, I've got no problem mentoring someone and it would be great for me to not be the only one with the skillset. But what I HAVE got a problem with is mentoring someone within an agreed timescale of the piece of work (10 days in this case) AND expected to deliver the product to the same standard. I guess what I'm getting at is: 18 months experience != a few days mentoring, not to mention the level of C#/.Net/ASP.Net/Javascript required may also not be up to scratch. Am I right to think this is a little, wrong?

  I'm having a little trouble with my MySQL- Connection- Pooling. This is the case: Different jobs are scheduled via Quartz. All jobs connect to different databases which works fine the whole day while the nightly scheduled jobs fail with a CommunicationsException... Quartz-Jobs: Job1 runs 0 0 6,10,14,18 * * ? Job2 runs 0 30 10,18 * * ? Job3 runs 0 0 5 * * ? As you can see the last job runs at 18 taking about 1 hour to run. The first job at 5am is the one that fails. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 39,376,539 milliseconds ago. is longer than the server configured value of 'wait_timeout'. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem.   Hi, this is a question for the algorithms gurus out there :-) Let S be a set of intervals of the natural numbers that might overlap and b a box size. Assume that for each interval, the range is strictly less than b. I want to find the minimum set of intervals of size b (let's call it M) so all the intervals in S are contained in the intervals of M. Trivial example: S = {[1..4], [2..7], [3..5], [8..15], [9..13]} b = 10 M = {[1..10], [8..18]} // so ([1..4], [2..7], [3..5]) are inside [1..10] and ([8..15], [9..13]) are inside [8..18] I think a greedy algorithm might not work always, so if anybody knows of a solution of this problem (or a similar one that can be converted into), that would be great.
