  • Backlight screen flickering on a Sony Vaio VPCYB15AL

    I've just installed Ubuntu 11.10, and everything went just now when the computer got into suspension, when it got back the screen started flickering, specially on the dashboard, it trends to disappear when i turn down the backlight, at first it was fixed by rebooting the system and now, every time that I start Ubuntu as soon as the desktod loads it starts flickering again, please help! I have a Sony VAIO VPCYB15AL AMD Dual Core E350 with an ATI HD 6310.

  • Microphone crackling in Ubuntu 12.04

    I am not very experienced in linux and have this problem with microphone which works fine on Windows. Microphone is external one and when listening to recorded sound (both Sound Recorder and Skype Echo Test) you can hear crackling noise. I fixed output crackling by replacing load-module module-hal-detect with load-module module-hal-detect tsched=0 in /etc/pulse/default.pa but I have no idea how to fix input. Hardware info: Card: HDA ATI SB Chip: Realtek ALC272X Thanks for help!

I can either: Keep displaying full-content for Search Engines. Can this be considered cloaking? Keep the real content in the background, and a pop-up that makes it not-viewable (like quora does).   • Identifying which pattern fits better.

    I'm developing a software to program a device. I have some commands like Reset, Read_Version, Read_memory, Write_memory, Erase_memory. Reset and Read_Version are fixed. They don't need parameters. Read_memory and Erase_memory need the same parameters that are Length and Address. Write_memory needs Lenght, Address and Data. For each command, I have the same steps in sequence, that are something like this sendCommand, waitForResponse, treatResponse. I'm having difficulty to identify which pattern should I use. Factory, Template Method, Strategy or other pattern. Edit I'll try to explain better taking in count the given comments and answers. I've already done this software and now I'm trying to refactoring it. I'm trying to use patterns, even if it is not necessary because I'm taking advantage of this little software to learn about some patterns. Despite I think that one (or more) pattern fits here and it could improve my code. When I want to read version of the software of my device, I don't have to assembly the command with parameters. It is fixed. So I have to send it. After wait for response. If there is a response, treat (or parse) it and returns. To read a portion of the memory (maximum of 256 bytes), I have to assembly the command using the parameters Len and Address. So I have to send it. After wait for response.   • Pixels - A cry for some insight

    I'm pretty new to web developing and I'd love some clarification. Although reading more than one book on the topic, I cannot seem to wrap my head around the pixel concept. I encounter problems with this issue when trying to use CSS and pixel units for design that fits different screen sizes. To my understanding a pixel is the most basic unit used by a monitor in order to compose an image on the screen. So if me resolution is 800 by 600, everything on my screen is rendered using those 800*600 basic building blocks. If I were to enlarge my screen resolution, 3 things would accrue: A. The basic image building block(the pixel) would shrink in size B. The pixels would move close together C. Well, more pixels would now be available All these combined lead to a sharper(depending on the viewing distance) and more detail enabling image. Well so far so good. Here is were I start getting lost: To my knowledge a pixel is not a physical, real object. Monitors are not embedded with a few thousand pixels. I am drawn to this conclusion because anyone can change his screen's resolution, making a pixel on his screen bigger or smaller, and adding or subtracting the amount of total pixels on screen. Adding to that, I have herd that different monitors have different pixel densities. For example Apple's retina monitors. Taking all of the above as my knowledge base, These are my questions: If a pixel has no real world constant size, what does comparing different pixel densities matter? Each screen company can define it's own pixel concept and declare the higher density. What does a bigger pixel density mean? Say we take two screens with the same physical dimensions, but with a different pixel density, am I to assert that the main difference would be the larger density screen being able to display a higher max resolution? Or am I to assert that given the same resolution on both monitors, the higher density one would display a sharper, smaller image? If a pixel is not a fixed size within one monitor, is it a fixed size between the same resolution on two different monitors? For example, would two different monitors, set to the same resolution, be comprised of same size, same quantity pixels? I'd love some help (:

    I downloaded 12.10 a day after it was released. It is a little buggy in my system - shows the errors such as a problem has occurred frequently. The developers probably have fixed most of the issues by now. So I was wondering if I was to download a fresh copy of the distribution from ubuntu.com, will the distribution have all the bug patches and updates integrated? Or will I have to run update again to install the patches separately?

  • Can't n run a bootable cd of ubuntu desktop on a laptop with no OS

    I recorded a bootable CD with the image that I downloaded from the Ubuntu site, using NTI CD MAKER. My laptop had a problem and I prefered to get it fixed without installing an OS. Now, when I try to run this CD it shows the following error mssage: Device driver not found: 'MSCD001'. No valid CDROM device drivers were selected Mouse driver was previously installed A:\> If the drive wasn't working the CD wouldn't even start, I assume....So can anyone help me please! Thank you!
