  • Can't activate dynamic disk

    For some reason I can't activate a dynamic disk connected to my PC via a USB hard disk enclosure. It has activated previously without any problems. When I check the event logs, I get this message every time I try to activate the disk: dmio: Harddisk2 write error at block 2930277167: status 0xc0000015

  • Installing Intel Rapid Storage Drivers makes my eSATA Drives act weird

    I have a HP 8530w Elitebook this Laptop got an eSATA port which I want to plug my LaCie d2 Quadra V2 1TB harddrive into. It all works well on a fresh install of Windows 7 without the Intel Chipset drivers installed. However when I install the Intel Rapid Storage drivers or the Intel Matrix software my drive seems to "disconnect" when I use it to much. I have a lot of Virtual PC's on the drive and when I start them the disk somewhat disconnects. What could cause this?

    i have a situation here, i bought a new dell xps 15z and was successful in making drive partitions through the help of this site (http://superuser.com/questions/313082/dell-xps-15-l502x-hard-drive-partition) now i have drive C with 100.55gb and a new volume with 578.45gb im planning to use EaseUS again to undo this and resize my drive C but im scared i might cause damage to my drive, is there a proper way to undo this and transfer the remaining 78.45gb from the new volume back to my drive C again? please help

  • why am I seeing "ghost" folder contents on Vista?

    Today, after I clicked "folder X" in my external hard drive, instead of seeing the contents of "folder X", I see the contents of my flash drive...which is not connected to my computer. My flash drive's files show for a couple of seconds before I am brought to "folder X" which was the folder I wanted to go to as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Any idea why this happened? I'm using Vista 32-bit business edition.

  • Does any know fix/cause of USB drives that lose connection

    I have been having significant problems trying to copy files to a USB drive (G0-Flex 1.5 tb) No matter what I use to try to copy the files (python code, Windows copy and paste or Drobo Copy utility) I ultimately get a failure. The failure is always some indication that the device is not ready or able to be written to. I am pretty sure the problem is that the drive is losing its connection. I have done everything I can find so far including setting the USB Root hub to never turn off the power, I updated some usb drivers etc. I have found references to this problem primarily with Win7-64 bit. I have also had USB connection problems with other devices- we kept losing a connection to our Bravo Disc Publisher when we went to Win7 and finally bought a newer model and have not had problems since. Any pointers about diagnosing and or understanding the problem would be appreciated.

  • External hard drive becomes unwriteable after awhile

    I have an external USB hard drive mounted in Ubuntu 9.10 with full read/write abilities over SMB. If it stays on for awhile though, I lose the ability to write to it. I end up having to ssh in and unmount, mount, reboot in order to have write ability again. Any reason on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

  • Which is faster? 4x10k SAS Drives in RAID 10 or 3x15k SAS Drives in RAID 5?

    I am reviewing quote for a server upgrade. (RHEL). The server will have both Apache and MySQL on it, but the reason for upgrade is to increase DB performance. CPU has been upgraded massively, but I know that disk speed is also a factor. So RAID 10 is faster performance than RAID 5, but how much difference does the drive speed make? (The 15k discs in the RAID 5 config is at the top of my budget btw, hence not considdering 4x15k discs in RAID 10, which I assume would be the optimum.)

    We have a Windows 2008 R2 Server running on a Dell PowerEdge R310 Server with Bitlocker enabled. There are two physical Hard disks configured as RAID 1. One of the disks recently started having an issue, so we have now have a warranty covered replacement for it, But we were curious if there will be any issues hot swapping the new drive in due to BitLocker being enabled?   • Cloning single disk drive to multiple drives simultaneously

    Hi, I am looking for a way to clone single disk drive to more than one disk drive at the same time. I have prepared system images on 1TB disks, and it takes almost 2 hours to clone one disk to another, and then it goes up exponentially, in order to have say 30 disks cloned. If it was possible to clone one disk to more than single target, it would simplify whole procedure a lot. Also, is there something that prevents this kind of operation? I mean, is there some special reason why every disk cloning software that I know about supports only single target drive? Thanks! P.S.   • What other tape manufacturers can I use in IBM LTO Gen 3 SAS Tape Drives

    I have recently just got my hands on an IBM 3580S3V. I was just wondering if there are any other brands that I can use in this IBM gear? LTO media are usually manufactured only by EMTEC, Imation, Fujifilm, Maxell, TDK and Sony (according to Wikipedia). I am trying to determine who OEM's the IBM tapes, or if possible, a list of media that IBM supports. So far in my Google studies, I have only been able to see IBM as the supported media manufacturer (seeing as they sell tapes, I assume they don't want anyone buying media from competitors!)

    So, let's say you have a notebook, and you encrypt the entire hard drive. Whenever you boot it's gonna ask for a password, meaning nobody can access your data without the password.     Ok this is an odd one, but is happening often enough its getting quite annoying. I recently installed Windows 7 on my work computer (about 2 months ago) and every so often I lose access to network shares on our work network. Its one server in particular - other shares are still working fine. I have a number of folders mapped as a drive, and all of the ones on a particular file server have lost access. If I try to access the machine directly (\fileserver\d$) it doesn't work either with this message: Windows cannot access \fileserver\d$. You do not have permission to access \fileserver\d$. Contact your network administrator to request access Once I reboot the computer, access is restored like it should be. The computers are all on a domain and my user has administrator level access to the server in question.

  • Mapping drives on MacOSX (Leopard/Snow Leopard) permanently inside LAN

    Hi, How do I "map" shared folders on a Mac, permanently? With map, I do not mean 'connect', but permanently add it to the system so it exists after reboot. Since workstations tend to shutdown, I wonder also the symptoms and cures in case that happens. In Linux, this can be done using the fstab file, but I noticed that volumes are mounted in a different structure than Linux. I need this to backup some workstations, doing a recursive job over a single directory, that should contain the shared folders. I use Terminal to access the main system, so by preference, the solution would be nice that works within a bash shell vs GUI. I can access all folders in Finder. Thanks!

    There is a remote filesystem I can reach through ssh. On Linux, there are several ways of dealing with it. I like sshfs, because with it I can work with the remote files the same way as with my local files. Is there any similar to Windows, that can map a network drive through ssh? The best I can use is WinSCP, which is good, but not good enough.

  • How to add unused space to another partition in gparted?

    In my hard drive windows takes up 100 gb, then backtrack takes up 100 gb. When I make backtrack's partition smaller i get 100 gb for windows, 50 gb for backtrack, and 50 gb of unused space (in that exact order). How do I reallocate that 50 gb of space to windows so that instead it is 150 gb for windows, then 50 gb for backtrack? I'm using gparted and i can't move the unused space or add it to windows' partition.

  • Can't install SB750 RAID drivers in Windows 7 for two additional storage drives

    Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD, 790X/SB750 OS: Windows 7 x64 I currently have SATA 1-4 set to RAID and SATA 5-6 set to IDE. I have an SSD connected to SATA5 with Windows 7 installed on it, and that works fine. I also have configured a RAID 1 array of two 1TB HDDs, connected to SATA 1 and 2. These don't show up in Windows, and I'm having trouble getting the RAID driver installed. I even tried booting from the Windows DVD and repairing or installing Windows, but when I navigated to the relevant .sys files on my motherboard's driver CD, Windows setup told me that the files in question weren't relevant to my hardware. To be clear: I'm not trying to install Windows on a RAID. I have Windows installed on a separate disk on a separate SATA controller. I just want to get the SB750 RAID drivers installed so that the Windows disk utility can see my RAID 1 array, which is composed of two other disks. Do I need to wipe my SSD and reinstall Windows to get the RAID driver installed? That seems kind of ridiculous, and given what I described above, I'm not even sure it would work. Any help or guidance would be appreciated - thanks! Edit: Also, I've copied the driver files from the mobo CD into system32 and rebooted, no luck. Then I changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV\Start from 3 to 0, and that didn't work either.
