• Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

  Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated.   I'm not familiar with server-side scripting, but I'm currently using a PHP application on Media Temple to cache JPEGs from four webcams hosted on a server located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. (Hence my reason for caching them in the US.) The webcams are updated every five minutes. The PHP application stores the cached images in http://static.rigic.co/cache/. I would like to create a cron script to automatically delete the contents of "cache" (not the folder itself; just the files inside) at a regular interval.

• How to script printer creation on a Windows Server 2008 R2 clustered print server?

  As per subject. I've found some ways of scripting printer creation on Windows print servers using WMI, but it looks like WMI doesn't support clustered print servers (or clustered servers at all). The scripts in C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts are useless because, they are not cluster-aware and end up creating the printers on the active cluster node (just like using WMI). The only tool I found that was able to work on a clustered print server is printui.exe (shortcut for rundll32 printui.dll, PrintUIEntry), but it can't create TCP printing ports: it can only add printers if the port already exists. How can I completely script printer creation (including TCP printing ports!) on a clustered Windows Server 2008 R2 print server?

• Files copying between servers by creation time

  My bash scripting knowledge is very weak that's why I'm asking help here. What is the most effective bash script according to performance to find and copy files from one LINUX server to another using specifications described below. I need to get a bash script which finds only new files created in server A in directories with name "Z" between interval from 0 to 10 minutes ago. Then transfer them to server B. I think it can be done by formatting a query and executing it for each founded new file "scp /X/Y.../Z/file root@hostname:/X/Y.../Z/" If script finds no such remote path on server B it will continue copying second file which directory exists. File should be copied with permissions, group, owner and creation time. X/Y... are various directories path. I want setup a cron job to execute this script every 10 minutes. So the performance is very important in this case. Thank you.

• Script for creating directories and subdirectories on SBS 2008

  I have a small business server 2008 and have a directory named LAWFILES. I have a 6 digit file system (eg 106568) and I create a directory to store anything to do with the file (documents, outlook emails, PDFs, WAV files, ect.) I group 100 files in a 4 digit directory (eg 1065) for quicker access. My new years resolution is to organize these directories. I used to have a script the batch created directories and sub directories but it didn't work the last time I tried it (2 years ago). I would like to run a batch file that would ask for the 4 digit directory name (eg 1065) and then create that directory and 100 subdirectories (106500 - 106599) each of which contained subdirectories named "Documents," "Correspondence" & "Email-Voicemail" Can anyone suggest where I would go to find a scripting language that would be available to accomplish this? I decided to use emacs, but I get a weird error when running the script: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like the shebang ends in \r\n instead of just \n. It would be nice if the scripting language could be Python. However, it can't run with access to the environment the game runs on since a malicious user could wreak havoc which would be bad. Is it possible to run sandboxed Python in pure Python? If not, are there any open source script interpreters written in pure Python that I could use?   I have several configuration files on Windows Server 2008 nested like such: C:\Projects\Project_1\project1.config C:\Projects\Project_2\project2.config In my configuration I need to do a string replace like such: <add key="Environment" value="Dev"/> will become: <add key="Environment" value="Demo"/> I thought about using batch scripting, but there was no good way to do this, and I heard that with PowerShell scripting you can easily perform this. I have found examples of find/replace, but I was hoping for a way that would traverse all folders within my C:\Projects directory and find any files that end with the '.config' extension. When it finds one, I want it to replace my string values. Any good resources to find out how to do this or any PowerShell gurus that can offer some insight?

  I just discovered Erubis, a replacement for the default view renderer for Ruby on Rails. However, from what I can tell from reading about it, it's superior across the board. It is much faster. It has many more options. It can prevent cross site scripting without having to use h. Does this have any disadvantages versus the standard erb renderer? Why isn't this the standard renderer packaged with Rails? Also, the docs for Erubis say to install it just by installing the gem, and then add the following to environment.rb: require 'erubis/helpers/rails_helper' #Erubis::Helpers::RailsHelper.engine_class = Erubis::Eruby # or Erubis::FastEruby Reading the docs, FastEruby seems to be just a faster renderer than Eruby. Are there any gotchas I should be aware of or does this pretty much solve all cross site scripting?

  So I am using a scripting language with c++-like syntax, and I am trying to think of the best way to check if a date is within range. The problem I am running into is that if the current day is in a new month, the check is failing. Here is what my code looks like: if(iMonth >= iStartMonth && iMonth <= iEndMonth) { if(iDay >= iStartDay && iDay <= iEndDay) { if(iYear >= iStartYear && iYear <= iEndYear) { bEnabled = true; return; When I have something like this: Start date: 3 27 2010 End Date: 4 15 2010 Current Date: 3 31 2010 The day check fails because if (iDay <= iEndDay) does not pass. The scripting language doesn't have a lot of time related functions, and I can't compare timestamps because I'm allowing users to put like "03:27:2010" and "04:15:2010" as start/end dates in a config file. I'm assuming I am just not thinking straight and missing an easy fix.

The server will run a very minimal version of Ubuntu server LTS (only LAMP and email server no GUI). I want to write a script (scheduled as a cron job) that will allow me to upload local files onto the server. I want to use [SFTP][1], for security reasons. • Migrating users and mailboxes from postfix / Maildir to Postfix with Mysql backend

  So I've got 60 or so users on a hand rolled postfix installation on openbsd and I'd like to move their mailboxes to our new mail server running iRedMail (postfix, vmail/mysql back end) Does anyone know of a good way to do this? Preferably a script I can run to keep syncing the users mailboxes as MX records get updated? I presume one way (though I don't have all their passwords!) would be to have a command line imap client that simulated the users copying their mail themselves but I'm sure there must be a shell / php script to migrate users?   After searching in my start menu and clicking to "see more results", I got an error dialog: It "seems" that it should be search-ms:query=document an not search:query=document but where can I fix this? Additional info: New user account don't have the problem. Windows 7 Ultimate - RTM Disabling/Enabling again "Windows Search" (in Start Control Panel Programs Turn Windows Features on or off) doesn't fix it. (There's a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Search in my registry that's not there normally.) - outdated see comments...
