• How to remove Media Center from Windows 8

  I bought 2 Windows 8 upgrades, 1 for my PC and 1 for my notebook. I added Windows Media Center to my notebook using the free offer in November (side note: the key was emailed to me within 5 minutes, I see many people have been complaining that it takes a few days). Today I decided to add WMC to my PC as well, so I went onto the Microsoft website, same like last time, and I received the email within a few minutes. Once I added WMC, entered the key and the computer rebooted, my activation is now broken: This product key is already being used on another PC. Try a different key or buy a new one. After rereading the product key email, I realised that the WMC key was exactly the same as the one I had received in November for my notebook (I used the same email, i.e. my Microsoft account Outlook email, for both). I didn't think this would be a problem, as on Microsoft's feature pack page it states: ...is limited to five licenses per customer per promotion. So then I decided, I'll just remove WMC from my PC and go back to Windows 8 Pro. So I turned off the WMC feature, PC restarted, activation still broken because my key has been replaced. I then tried to activate it with my original Pro key. The error it gave was that this key cannot be used with this version of Windows, as it is now Windows 8 Pro with Media Center and not Windows 8 Pro anymore. I've searched a bit and it seems the only way to remove it is do a clean install. I tried the Windows 8 Downgrade Helper, which told me I was already running Win 8 Pro when I tried to downgrade, and that I was running Win 8 Pro with Media center when I tried the other option. To sum up: How do I remove Windows Media Center from Windows 8 Pro without having to do a clean install?

  Hi, I'm trying to set up an OpenVPN VPN, which will carry some (but not all) traffic from the clients to the internet via the OpenVPN server. My OpenVPN server has a public IP on eth0, and is using tap0 to create a local network, 192.168.2.x. I have a client which connects from local IP 192.168.1.101 and gets VPN IP 192.168.2.3. On the server, I ran: iptables -A INPUT -i tap+ -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i tap+ -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.2.0/24 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE On the client, the default remains to route via 192.168.1.1. In order to point it to 192.168.2.1 for HTTP, I ran ip rule add fwmark 0x50 table 200 ip route add table 200 default via 192.168.2.1 iptables -t mangle -A OUTPUT -j MARK -p tcp --dport 80 --set-mark 80 Now, if I try accessing a website on the client (say, wget google.com), it just hangs there. • Remote access to phpmyadmin from computer belongs to same LAN

  OK... I solved it. It is because I have not configured the httpd.conf to allow the centos listen port 80 and 8080. Listen 80 Listen 8080 I have setup the myphpadmin on my CentOS 6.4 recently. I can access and login to the myphpadmin on my localhost. However, when I type http://[hostipaddr]/phpmyadmin on my other computer in the same LAN with the CentOS, the browser simply cannot access the page. Below are some of the current configuration. • program to track recent saved files or downloads?

  Back to windows XP times, i used a program named Ava Find that can find any file in the system, but a really nice feature it had, called "scout bot" that automatically finds new files, that is, recently created. More info here: AvaFind For example, if i saved or downloaded a file (in any program), but i cant remember its name or where i put it, i just simply looked at the scoutbot list, and it showed me the most recent files, and then i could just open them from there, or jump to their path. Since i changed to windows 7 (passing through vista), the program no longer works. It simply keeps indexing forever and never finds anything. I don't know if it is not compatible with win 7 itself, or because the fact that my windows 7 is 64 bit. I already tried to contact the Avafind creators, but they never answered, and the program seems to be no longer supported (although the site still works). Now, is there a similar program that finds RECENT files? e.g. listing the most recently saved files, system-wide (or even limiting it to some folders, discs)? And that of course, that is confirmed to work with win 7 64 bit. I know that there are many programs that can find any file, like everything, but what i want is to find recent files and their paths, without knowing their name or e. "everything" also can sort results by date, which is almost what i need, simply to look for part of the file name or extension, and get the most recent one. but if i get to many results, it takes a while, plus, i STILL need to know the name or at least extension of the file. What i want is simply a "Most recently Saved files" tool. i.e., a replacement for Scout Bot in Ava Find. Do you know any alternative?

• ownership of hard drive recoveery of files Windows 7

  Here is the issue. I have an old laptop that died that was running xp. I now have a win 7 laptop. I need to get the files off the old drive. Win 7 will not let me take ownership of the drive. I can runn the comand prompt in regular mode and do a dir on the drive that shows up as Q: drive in regular mode. I gives me the volume as c and the serial number. I can not take ownership in regular mode with the comand prompt or other means. Microsoft site says use safe mode with networking. So I go to safe mode the drive shows up as G: in safe mode. I use the comand prompt Takeown /f G: and get the device is not ready error. I am at a loss. All I want is to retrieve my files from this drive. Any ideas or sugestions. I don't see how you can dir and get some info in one mode and not acces it in another. I have to get ownership and permissions fixed to get in the drive to get my files. Thanks in advance. I might add that I am using a usb3.0 to ide/sata cable adapter. Software came with the device but I can't make heads or tails out of the manual to know if any of the software can help me. The soft ware is PCClone Ex lite, and Clone Drive Soft ware

• Server resolve issues not consistent

  I am having some weird issues with my web server. It has a public ip address and is set-up on an openVZ virtual machine. Accessing in to the site works fine every time but when trying to access out from the server I can't always connect out. Sometimes I can connect out and resolve addresses, sometimes I can't. The issue is visible in both ssh when trying to do a wget command on Google; sometimes it works and I get the index.html page and sometimes I get nothing. The issue is more visible in wordpress where you can't view themes but after a few presses of the try again button you can then view them. I have searched google and found nothing about this issue. Does anyone here have any ideas what could be causing this strange behaviour? Ports 80 and 2222 are open for web and ssh. • No access to Windows 2003 admin shares

  This is the environment: Several Win 2003 SP 2 servers and several Win XP SP2 & SP3 clients. All in the same LAN. Firewall is disabled everywhere. No recent Windows updates or configuration changes. This is the problem: Since last Thursday, I log on to any other server or workstation as any regular (non-admin) user and I fail to be able to open ADMIN SHARES ONLY (namely \\server1\c$, \\server1\e$ and \\server1\admin$). The error message is: "\server1\c$ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." I can, however, open the same shares if I use FQDN or IP address: \\server1.domain.local\c$ \\172.0.0.1\c$ Other shares do not have this issue and I can open them without any issue. Any ideas or suggestion would be truly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

• What is the risk of introducing non standard image machines to a corporate environment

  I’m after some feedback from those in the managed desktop or network security space on the risks of introducing machines that are not built on a standard desktop image into a large corporate environment. This particular context relates to the standard corporate image (32 bit Win XP) in a large multi-national not being suitable for a particular segment of users. In short, I’m looking at what hurdles we might come across by proposing the introduction of machines which are built and maintained by a handful of software developers and not based on the corporate desktop image (proposing 64 bit Win 7). I suspect the barriers are primarily around virus definition updates, the rollout of service packs and patches and the compatibility of existing applications with the newer OS. In terms of viruses and software updates, if machines were using common virus protection software with automated updates and using Windows Update for service packs and patches, is there still a viable risk to the corporate environment? For that matter, are large corporate environments normally vulnerable to the introduction of a machine not based on a standard image? I’m trying to get my head around how real the risk of infection and other adverse events are from machines being plugged into the network. There are multiple scenarios outside of just the example above where this might happen (i.e. a vendor plugging in a machine for internet access during a presentation). Would a large corporate network normally be sufficiently hardened against such innocuous activity? I appreciate the theory as to why policies such as standard desktop images exist, I’m just interested in the actual, practical risk and how much a network should be protected by means other than what is managed on individual PCs.

• Getting windows virtio mounted/installed for KVM

  There might be an easy answer to this. I have exhausted my search on google for a solution. Here's my problem. I need to get Windows working on a KVM vps with virtualizor CP. As I get into windows installation in VNC, there's the mandatory driver installation requirement, as HDD is in virtio. There seems to be 2 solutions: 1. Mount the virtio iso (http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/images/bin/) in the CD drive by unmounting Windows ISO and proceed with driver installation. 2. Create a secondary CD drive and mount the virtio iso there. Well, 1st step never seems to work. If I unload the Windows iso and load the virtio iso, it never reflects back in the VNC. Second step I have yet to be successfull. I try to create a second IDE CD ROM drive via virt-manager but the virtio (virtio-win-0.1-30.iso) iso is never listed in there, whereas i specially placed it in /var/lib/libvirt/images folder. Any suggestions on where I screwed up?

• LDAPS being redirected to 389

  We're trying to perform an LDAPS bind to a server which blocks 389 with a firewall so all traffic must travel over 636. In our test lab we're connecting to a test ldap (located on the same server) which does not have this firewall so both ports are exposed. Running ldp.exe on the test server we generate the trace below which seems to suggest that it is successfully binding over 636. However if we monitor the traffic with wireshark all the traffic is being sent to 389 with no attempt to even contact 636. Other tools will bind only with SSL on 636 or without SSL on 389 whjich seems to suggest it is behaving correctly but Wireshark shows 389. Only the test server we are using RawCap to capture the local loopback traffic. • Windows 7, network transmit (send) not working

  My Win 7 works 2 years without problem. But now, I can't transmit (send) big data on LAN/Internet. I can: - Ping anything - Browse Internet, download files at full speed - Send e-mails with very small attachments. - Testing download speed on Speedtest.net, measure stable full speed. I can't: - Testing upload speed on Speedtest.net. Upload stuck.. - Save/send email messages with big (128k) attachment, independent from e-mail provider or e-mail box. THIS IS NOT A HARDWARE/CABLE/CARD OR OTHER NETWORK DEVICES PROBLEM! When I boot from a Linux Live CD, without ANY hardware change, all data sending, testing works correctly, at full speed. I have tried already in Win 7: - Disable Windows/3rd party Firewall completely - Reset IP stack parameters (netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt) - Computer restore - Reinstall LAN driver When I inspect the packets in Wireshark in Windows, I see lot's of (maybe 60% of sent packets) "TCP Retransmission". Sometimes receive "TCP Dup Ack" or "TCP Out-of-Order". Linux don't do this. Thank you for the help.

  configuration is ubuntu 2.6.31-21 64 bit vmware 2.0.2 64 bit last release hardware is core 2 quad with 8GB ram guest is win 2003 server SBS 32 bit Dear friends, we have a converted physical to virtual windows sbs 2003, converted with last converter available nowadays http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/ vCenter converter. Running the P2V 2K3 SBS on vmware server, it does boot fine, but we do note an abnormal CPU activity and a poor lan speed. As attempts we did what follow. We removed all unneeded peripherals, we removed one NIC (phisycal server was 2 nics), we changed the vmx to ged the nic recognized as intel instead than amd, we removed 1 cpu (physical was 2 cpu), we removed anything was reported as failed driver from system events monitor. Nothing to do, no way and funny results. Let's read some tests results. All are made with the same file copied in different source folders. Copying from client side (both directions copy, to/from server) results are i.e. 10 seconds, copying the same files from server side (again from and to server) results are different... from client to server, speed is round about (bit more) 10 seconds, but from server to client direction is slower: double the time. Beeing very fast and launching a simultaneous copy "from server to client"+"from client to server", this made from the server side, results in a stuck traffic... 45 seconds to do the copy. vmware tools are installed and e1000 driver has been updated. With one processor CPU activity is still going up and down but much less than with two. Because of test, we installed win 2k8 STD 64 bit. We repeated all the above tests with exactly the same file result is just one: always 5 seconds (this matches the lan speed) Any idea about this issue is welcome and thank you if any.   i have a problem on my domain, the history starting from when i had a server with WIN 2008 r2 installed with the following roles installed on it (AD, DNS, DHCP, File). From 1 month i decided to install a new server 2008 r2 server to get (AD, DNS, DHCP) and leave the file server on the old one. i did the following exactly: 1) robocopy all my data on external HDD 2) Install a new server with 2008 r2 3) transfer all 5 roles to transfer the domain to the new server (MainDC) 4) issue (NETLOGON, SYSVOL) not transferred but i decided to reinitialize them again an now they are operating (MainDC) 5) re-create and re-configure a new GPOs and link it to my OUs 6) reinstall Old server operating system with a fresh installation of WIN 2008 R2 (FileServer) 7) join my domain with my domain credentials. the issue when i tried to share folder on \fileserver the permissions that i had set in sharing permissions are applied on the main shared folder and subfolders. the security settings are not applied. i.e. Say i'm sharing \fileserver\MainFolder with sharing permission for Authenticated Users that can read, so every one can read this main shared folder, if i set security permission for \fileserver\MainFolder\User1 that User1 can Read\Write\Modify. User1 can not perform this processes when accessing it from Network Share, i tried alot of steps from topics online get ownership for folder, remove inheritance from parent folder, applying changes for child objects, i tried also to construct a new folder structure but also the same issue, i tried another host PC, also i get the same issue.

• moving from WinXP to WinServer in VmWare

  I have a Vmware machine for.Net application testing. Current setup: Host OS: win7 Guest OS: Right now the guest OS is Win Xp Pro x64, which runs great with just 1 gigabyte of RAM and 10 gigs of disk space. * This part can be skipped * As I said, there was a program that I needed to test, but unfortunately, by default, Vmware installs crappy display drivers(called SVGA II) on XP machines and there is NO way to upgrade them! This resulted in my program's error (the program used SlimDX (DirectX wrapper) to do some stuff..). Eventually I found out that display drivers most certainly is the problem. For example, Windows 7 virtual machine uses SVGA 3D drivers and I have NO problems running my SlimDX-based program. Now, regarding Windows Server 2008! Apparently, WDDM driver is supported by WS2008, which means that I'll be able to install SVGA 3D and to test my DX apps. * end of skip * The questions are: Will WS2008 be as smooth with just 1 gig of RAM just like Win XP was? Will 10 gigs of HDD be enough? Or the server requires more? Will I be able to install .Net ver. 4 on WS2008? Are there any limitations that I need to be aware of as a .Net programmer? EDIT: I was hoping that WS2008 is XP-based, not Vista-vased/W7-based. In comparison, W7 virtual machine with 2 gigs of RAM and 2 proc cores nearly kills my Host OS. Whereas, WinXp runs extremely fast even with 1 core and 1 gig of RAM. That's the main reason why I want to try WS2008..

• Can no longer duplicate display to external monitor on Windows 7

  We have a large TV at work - I connect my laptop to it to share my screen during meetings. Until today, my laptop display has been duplicating to the TV automatically when I connect the TV cable to the laptop. The display resolution would decrease automatically to be compatible with the TV. Today, however, it's stopped working. When I connect the cable to the TV, the display extends rather than duplicating. Using the Win+P key combination (or Fn+F7 on my Lenovo laptop), I can choose to duplicate the display - but when I do this, it ends up only displaying on the laptop. I can get it to display on the TV by hitting Win+P and choosing "projector only", but then I can't see what I'm doing on the laptop screen. I have a Lenovo W520 laptop running Windows 7, connected to the TV using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI converter cable. The TV's native resolution is 1280x720; the laptop's native resolution is 1600x900. I've tried booting with the TV cable already connected; I've tried manually lowering the display resolution on the laptop to 1280x720 before duplicating the display. Neither works. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The application allows traders to enter or upload information about their trades and I want to calculate a wide variety of statistics based on what the user entered. Now, normally I would use a relational database for this, but I have two requirements that don't fit well with a relational database so I am attempting to use couchdb. Those two problems are: 1) Primarily, I have a companion desktop application that users will be able to work with and replicate to the site using couchdb's awesome replication feature and 2) I would like to allow users to be able to define their own custom things to track about trades and generate results based off of what they enter. The schema less nature of couch seems perfect here, but it may end up being harder than it sounds. (I already know couch requires you to define views in advance and such so I was just planning on sticking all the custom attributes in an array and then emitting the array in the view and further processing from there.) What I Am Doing: Right now I am just emitting each trade in couch keyed by each user's system and querying with the key of the system to get an array of trades per system. Simple. I am not using a reduce function currently to calculate any stats because I couldn't figure out how to get everything I need without getting a reduce overflow error. I anticipate most users will only have somewhere under 200 per year, but some users may have a couple thousand trades per year. Probably no more than 5,000 per year. It seems to work ok now, but the page load times are already getting a tad high for my tastes. (About 800ms to generate the page according to rails logs with about a 250ms of that spent in the view layer.) I will end up caching this page I am sure, but I still need the regenerate the page each time a trade is updated and I can't afford to have this be too slow. Sooo..... Is doing something similar here possible with a straight couchdb reduce function? I am assuming handing this off to couch would possibly help with larger data sets. I couldn't figure out how, but I suppose that doesn't mean it isn't possible. If possible, any hints will be helpful. Could I use a list function if a reduce was not available due to reduce constraints? Are couchdb list functions suitable for this type of calculations? Anyone have any idea of whether or not list functions perform well? Any hints what one would look like for the type of calculations I am trying to achieve? I thought about other options such as running the calculations at the time each trade was saved or nightly if I had to and saving the results to a statistics doc that I could then query so that all the processing was done ahead of time. I would like this to be the last resort because then I can't really filter out trades by time periods dynamically like I would really like to. (I want to have a slider that a user can slide to only show trades from that time period using the startkey and endkey in couchdb if I can.) If I should continue running the calculations inside the rails app at the time of the page view, what can I do to improve my current implementation. I am new to rails, couch and programming in general. I am sure that I could be doing something better here. Do I need to create an array for each stat or is there a better way to do that. I guess I just would really like some advice on how to tackle this problem. I want to keep the page generation time minimal since I anticipate these being some of the highest trafficked pages. My gut is that I will need to offload the statistics calculation to either couch or run the stats in advance of when they are called, but I am not sure. Lastly: Like I mentioned above, one of the primary reasons for using couch is to allow users to define their own things to track per trade. Getting the data into couch is no problem, but how would I be able to take the custom_tracking array and find how many winning trades for each named tracking attribute. If anyone can give me any hints to the possibility of doing this that would be great. Thanks a bunch. Would really appreciate any help. • SVN Server not responding

  I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? • Disable or remove filter driver for single HID device

  Running Windows XP in a corporate setting here. I have an issue where a filter driver is interfering with the functionality of different USB HIDs. For example graphics tablets do not respond while the filter driver is in place. I've also had the issue with foot pedals used with transcription software. My question is really two fold: A) what makes Windows use a filter driver on one HID but not another? B) when a filter driver is causing conflicts how can I disable it on the affected devices? Background I've previously narrowed down the issue to the filter driver by uninstalling the software (Funk Proxy Host) responsible for the filter driver. The software is a type of RDP we use here at work. (I might have even booted into safe mode and renamed the file, I forget). I believe the filter driver is present to disable or modify the use of the local keyboard and mouse while admin staff are assisting users. Either way I don't have the authority to just go uninstalling this software. As far as I can tell the software versions are the same, however I'm not sure if the device driver definitions are all the same as I don't know where these things would be located. To check for the presence of the filter driver I locate the hardware device in Device Manager, click Properties Driver tab Driver Details.... It shows up as ph32ihid.sys. Even though all machines are meant to have the same SOE and do have Funk Proxy Host installed I don't always have issues with the same HIDs. A few machines here the foot pedals without any issues. I've not had any machines work with the graphics tablet without uninstalling Funk software. Driver details I've just read up a bit more about filter drivers and found the drivers description in the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ProxyHostHIDFilter" There it's called "Kernel-mode HID filter driver for the Proxy Host". Presumably I could also disable it here but that would be system wide which is probably not desirable?

  2010 has been a very good year for me and I wanted to create a list and thank everyone for what they have done for me.  I also wanted to thank everyone for reading and subscribing to my blog. It is hard to believe that people actually want to read what I write. I feel like I owe a huge thanks to everyone listed below. Looking back upon 2010, I feel that I’ve grown as a developer and you are part of that reason. Sometimes we get caught up in day to day work and forget to give thanks to those that helped us along the way. The list below is mine, it includes people and companies. This list is obviously not going to include everyone that has helped, just those that have stood out in my mind. When I think back upon 2010, their names keep popping up in my head. So here goes, in no particular order.  People Dave Campbell – For everything he has done for the Silverlight Community with his Silverlight Cream blog. I can’t think of a better person to get recognition at the Silverlight FireStarter event. I also wanted to thank him for spending several hours of his time helping me track down a bug in my feedburner account. Victor Gaudioso – For his large collection of video tutorials on his blog and the passion and enthusiasm he has for Silverlight. We have talked on the phone and I’ve never met anyone so fired up for Silverlight. Kunal Chowdhury – Kunal has always been available for me to bounce ideas off of. Kunal has also answered a lot of questions that stumped me. His blog and CodeProject article have green a great help to me and the Silverlight Community. Glen Gordon – I was looking frantically for a Windows Phone 7 several months before release and Glen found one for me. This allowed me to start a blog series on the Windows Phone 7 hardware and developing an application from start to finish that Scott Guthrie retweeted.  Jeff Blankenburg – For listening to my complaints in the early stages of Windows Phone 7. Jeff was always very polite and gave me his cell phone number to talk it over. He also walked me through several problems that I was having early on. Pete Brown – For writing Silverlight 4 in Action. This book is definitely a labor of love. I followed Pete on Twitter as he was writing it and he spent a lot of late nights and weekends working on it. I felt a lot smarter after reading it the first time. The second time was even better. John Papa – For all of his work on the Silverlight Firestarter and the Silverlight community in general. He has also helped me on a personal level with several things. Daniel Heisler – For putting up with me the past year while we worked on many .NET projects together in 2010. Alvin Ashcraft – For publishing a daily blog post on the best of .NET links. He has linked to my site many times and I really appreciate what he does for the community. Chris Alcock – For publishing the Morning Brew every weekday. I remember when I first appeared on his site, I started getting hundreds of hits on my site and wondered if I was getting a DOS attack or something. It was great to find out that Chris had linked to one of my articles. Joel Cochran – For spending a week teaching “Blend-O-Rama”. This was my one of my favorite sessions of this year. I learned a lot about Expression Blend from it and the best part was that it was free and during lunchtime. Jeremy Likness – Jeremy is smart – very smart. I have learned a lot from Jeremy over the past year. He is also involved in the Silverlight community in every way possible, from forums to blog post to screencast to open source. It goes on and on. The people that I met at VSLive Orlando 2010. I had a great time chatting with Walt Ritscher, Wallace McClure, Tim Huckabee and David Platt. Also a special thanks to all of my friends on Twitter like @wilhil, @DBVaughan, @DataArtist, @wbm, @DirkStrauss and @rsringeri and many many more. Software Companies / Events / May of gave me FREE stuff. =) Microsoft (3) – I was sent a free coupon code by Microsoft to take the Silverlight 4 Beta Exam. I jumped on the offer and took the exam. It was great being selected to try out the exam before it goes public even though Microsoft eventually published a universal coupon code for everyone. I am still waiting to find out if I passed the exam. My fingers are crossed. Microsoft reaching out to me with some questions regarding the .NET Community. I’ve never had a company contact me with such interest in the community. Having a contest where 75 people could win a $100 gift certificate and a T-Shirt for submitting a Windows Phone 7 app. I submitted my app and won. All of the free launch events this year (Windows Phone 7, Visual Studio 2010, ASP.NET MVC). Wintellect – For providing an awesome day of free technical training called T.E.N. Where else can you get free training from some of the best programmers in the world? I also won a contest from them that included a NETAdvantage Ultimate License from Infragistics. VSLive – I attended the Orlando 2010 Conference and it was the best developer’s conference that I have ever attended. I got to know a lot of people at this conference and hang out with many wonderful speakers. I live tweeted the event and while it may have annoyed some, the organizers of VSLive loved it. I won the contest on Twitter and they invited me back to the 2011 session of my choice. This is a very nice gift and I really appreciate the generosity. BarcodeLib.com – For providing free barcode generating tools for a Non-Profit ASP.NET project that I was working on. Their third party controls really made this a breeze compared to my existing solution. NDepend – It is absolutely the best tool to improve code quality. The product is extremely large and I would recommend heading over to their site to check it out. Silverlight Spy – I was writing a blog post on Silverlight Spy and Koen Zwikstra provided a FREE license to me. If you ever wanted to peek inside of a Silverlight Application then this is the tool for you. He is also working on a version that will support OOB and Windows Phone 7. I would recommend checking out his site. Birmingham .NET Users Group / Silverlight Nights User Group – It takes a lot of time to put together a user group meeting every month yet it always seems to happen. I don’t want to name names for fear of leaving someone out but both of these User Groups are excellent if you live in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Publishing Companies Manning Publishing – For giving me early access to Silverlight 4 in Action by Pete Brown. It was really nice to be able to read this awesome book while Pete was writing it. • Windows Server 2008 R2 + IIS 7.5 + ASP.NET 4.0 = HTTP Error 500.0

  I am having an impossible time getting asp.net 4.0 to work in any fashion at all. In fact, I completely wiped my server, reinstalled with Server 2008 R2 Standard (running on a VMWare ESXi box, not that it should matter), and cannot even get a test .aspx page to work. Here is exactly what I did: Installed 2008 R2 Standard Activated windows and enabled Remote Desktop Installed the Web Server Role with the necessary role services(common http, asp.net, logging, tracing, management service and FTP) Enabled the management service Installed .Net Framework 4.0 via web executable Added FTP publishing to the default web site Switched default web site application pool to asp.net 4.0 (integrated) Added a 'test.aspx' file to the inetpub\wwwroot folder (contents below) Opened a browser to http://localhost/test.aspx and received a 500.0 error (also below) What am I missing? I haven't touched IIS in a while (3+ years), so it could be something stupid/trvial. Please point it out, call me a noob; my ego can take it. • terminating java applet thread on page unload

  Hello, I have got a problem here in terminating the threads. The problem is that I am using applet thread to access JS DOM and manipulate innerHTML of a span to right the Thread Name as the innerHTML. It works fine until I keep refreshing the page but if I dont give it a sleep of like 200ms and go to another page which dont have any applet on it, it will give me an error in firebug console: document.getElementById("userName") is null What I am suspecting is, although I send an interrupt on stop and I have also tried the same by setting a flag variable of running in run while loop, the thread executes much faster than the time JVM takes to unload it and I get my page changed in browser but applet is still trying to find an element with id userName. Is that true? Is there any work around of it? Is there any way to know how many threads are running at the moment? Is there any kill all command to send on destroy()? I have searched a lot, seen all the API of java threads and applets, couldn't get this to work. • TableView Cells Use Whole Screen Height

  I read through this tutorial Appcelerator: Using JSON to Build a Twitter Client and attempted to create my own simple application to interact with a Jetty server I setup running some Spring code. I basically call a get http request that gives me a bunch of contacts in JSON format. I then populate several rows with my JSON data and try to build a TableView. All of that works, however, my tableView rows take up the whole screen. Each row is one screen. I can scroll up and down and see all my data, but I'm trying to figure out what's wrong in my styling that's making the cells use the whole screen. My CSS is not great, so any help is appreciated. • Blackjack game reshuffling problem

  I am trying to make a blackjack game where before each new round, the program checks to make sure that the deck has 7 cards per player. And if it doesn't, the deck clears, repopulates, and reshuffles. I have most of the problem down, but for some reason at the start of every deal it reshuffles the deck more than once, and I can't figure out why. Help, please.
