• Unconvert Text File from Binary Format

  I've got a rather large CSV file (~700MB) which I know to consist of lines of 27-character alpha-numeric hashes; no commas or anything fancy. Somehow, during its migration from Windows to Linux (via winSCP and then a few regular SCPs), it has converted into some kind of binary format I am unfamiliar with. If I open the file in vi, everything appears fine, and it says [converted] at the bottom, although I know it's not a line endings issue (and dos2unix doesn't help). If I 'head' the file, it looks proper except for a "ÿþ" at the beginning of the first line. If I open up the file in nano, however, I see the "ÿþ" at the start and then "^@" before every character (even newlines and EoF). If I try to re-save or copy the file (say via: head file.csv short.txt), this special encoding is preserved. I copied the first ten lines out of vi (which displays it properly) into my Windows clipboard via my SSH client, then pasted it into a new text file, test.txt. This file is visually identical when opened in vi (and similar through 'head', minus the "ÿþ"), although it's roughly half of the filesize. Additionally, file test.txt test.txt: ASCII text file short.txt short.txt: I have no idea what format this once-text file got converted to (it's notoriously hard to search the internet for symbols), but surely there must be some way to convert it back. Any ideas?

• Lost Internet access in Windows XP Mode virtual pc under Windows 7

  In my office, I created and configured a virtual pc in Windows XP Mode. Everything was working fine. Now I'm on the road, and my Internet access (in the host operation system) is either via a hotel wifi or through my Verizon air card. Either way, I've lost Internet access in the virtual pc. I went into the Virtual PC settings, and set the Networking value to Shared Networking (NAT). Actually, I've tried every combination I can find, but I can't get from the virtual pc to the web. I'm hoping to use the virtual box at a client site, so I really need that access. Is there anything I can do to get it back? Thanks for any help.

  Possible Duplicate: How do I change the Respond To for Group Email adresses in Notes 6.5 When I send an email from a group mail box the email shows my email address as the sender. I would like to hide my email and only show my name. I am using Notes 6.5. Could you please advise if there is a way to set up my client to do this. I want this so the receiver responds to the group email not my personal email as it may be that I am not the one to do the fillow up to the response. There are 10 people in the group email.

• mkisofs creating iso file with no error or warning but iso corrupted

  I'm trying to make a dvd from mpeg2 files. First of all i'm on windows 7. I'm using the following binaries: jpeg2yuv mpeg2enc mplex spumux dvdauthor Now everything is fine till this point absolutely no errors, but then i'm using mkisofs to make the iso file also no errors or warnings. It creates the iso file but i cannot burn it to dvd it said: The selected disk image file isn't valid. I tried it on a Mac osx as well and there the iso is worked fine. It is an NTSC iso. I'm totaly stuck with this problem any help is really appreciated.

  I have a DNS server set up on one of my machines using BIND 9.7 Everything works fine with it. On my Windows 7 desktop, I have statically-assigned all network values. I have one DNS server set -- my DNS server. On my desktop, I can ping a third machine by IP fine. I can nslookup the hostname of the third machine fine. • Sony Vaio Hard Drive replacement won't boot

  I'm working on a Sony Vaio VGN-CR120e. I've cloned the original SATA 1.5 drive with Norton Ghost on to 2 new hard drives, the second of which is a Seagate 7200.4 320Gb 7200 RPM, with the jumper set to limit to SATA 1.5. (The first drive is a WD Scorpio Black 320Gb 7200RMP, which has no SATA 1.5 override support). Neither of the cloned drives will boot - I immediately get a BlackSOD saying: "Windows failed to start blah blah blah" "File \Windows\system32\winload.exe" "Status: 0xc000000e" "Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt." I've done this hundreds of times on other PC's, and this is the first time I've encountered such an error. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to proceeed, as I would rather not reinstall Vista unless absolutely necessary.

  The error is that when a batch (about 15) of similar 1 page documents are sent to the printer from the server some of them (last time it was 5) fail with the message ‘Invalid printer specified’ and the others work fine. The same document sent 1 second later will work fine. We are using.   Hi All, I was hoping someone can assist in describing a workaround solution to the following issue I am running into on my ASP.NET website on IE. In the following I will describe the bug and clarify the requirements of the needed solution. Repro Steps: User visits A.aspx A.aspx uses Response.Redirect to bring the user to B.aspx#house On B.aspx#house, the user clicks a button that sets window.location.hash='test' Actual Results: B.aspx is loaded again. The URL now shows B.aspx#test Expected Results: No reload. The URL will just change to B.aspx#test Requirements: Page A must redirect to page B with a fragment identifier in the url Any user action on page B will set the location.hash Setting location.hash must not make page B refresh This must work on IE Notes: Bug only repros on IE (tested on ie6|7|8). Opera, FF, Chrome, Safari all have the expected results of no reload. This error may have nothing to do with ASP.NET, and everything to do with IE For any kind soul willing to have a look at this, I have created a minimal ASP.NET web project to make it easy to repro here

• Intel Core i7 clockspeeds

  I've got an Intel i7 3770 CPU and am generally quite happy about it. However when I am just browsing around without programs running in background it seems to underclock itself quite a lot. This is not a real issue, however there seems to be a small hiccup (0.1s maybe) when it clocks itself higher again. Does anyone have a similar issue? Can I change the thresholds that are being used to change the clocks? I absolutely like that it underclocks the CPU whenever I am not around, but it shouldn't start to annoy me. It might also be related to Windows 8.1, but I am not sure about that, just saying that it's a possibility. I ran LatencyMon as suggested and got this (worrying?) result:

• Controlling the fontsize across multiple browsers

  Hello, I've got 3 browsers on my WinXPpro: Firefox 3.5.2, Opera 10 and IE 7. Alle pages are displayed fine in FF. Opera and IE seem to have a very similar issue: Both upsize fonts eventhough zoom mode in both browsers is set to 100%. I tend to believe that this might be a system-wide setting, somewhere. Does anyone know this problem? Thanks in advance.

  Sorry if this question exist already, I did some searches but could not find one myself. I am looking for the best programs to copy and paste stuff in windows more easily. So let's say instead of the default copy/paste one item at a time, I could have 5 different paragraphs that could all be pasted somewhere seperately. Hopefully this is not to confusing. Instead of bveing able to paste 1 item I would like to have a list of items that can be pasted or some similar functionality under windows. Please help make me more productive, I frequently need to copy and paste different sets of data. Here is a good exampl, let's say I need to be able to past my email somewhere but on another program or webpage I need to paste my home address.

  There's such utility for Windows developers called regtlib. I have three computers - one with WinXP, another two with Win2k3. If I run built-in Windows search for file with wildcard regtlib* on the whole filesystem search finds nothing on all three computers. If I try to execute regtlib on WinXP command line it says it can't find such a file or built-in command. The same on one of the two Win2k3 computers. But when I do that on the other Win2k3 computer I see typical regtlib output. What happens? What is the magic that invokes regtlib without the file being present on the filesystem?

• How to copy lots of files between two computers, without network?

  I want to copy around 50Gb of files from my desktop to my work laptop. For some reason, the laptop won't connect to my home network. I haven't had any luck with a direct ethernet connection either, and I'm not willing to change any of the laptop's network configuration (last time I did that, I couldn't get onto the network at work, making me Not Very Popular). So...what else is there? The obvious route is copying via SD card. My largest card is 8Gb. But I can't find a good workflow. Is there a tool designed for this, where I could just repetitively move the card back and forth, without having to select files? I've tried using teracopy, but you end up missing a few files. I guess I could zip everything up into multi-volume .rars or something...but is there a more elegant way?

• opening socket to google hangs on SYN_SENT

  I have 2 computers now: downloader (asus at4nm10t-i) with debian and desktop (asus sabertooth 990fx) with gentoo in the same network under NAT even with the same ethernet card: RTL8111E. driver r8169 is compiled as module on both computers. Sometimes in evenings desktop cannot connect to google and all its services like now: curl -v http://www.google.by on downloader it received server's answer immediately. on desktop it hanged and when I ran in other terminal: netstat -ntp | grep curl >>tcp 0 1 192.168.0.7:54126 173.194.35.191:80 SYN_SENT 4876/curl after 1-2 minutes it received server's answer. I was tried to change ip of network, mac address of desktop but nothing changed. When I was trying to connect to another services except google: curl -v http://www.yahoo.com both computers received answers immediately! Only when I rebooted desktop it begins to work with google services correctly I cant understand what is this bug related to. In which bugtracker should I post this: r8169 or linux kernel or google? PS. Desktop was checked with memtest: 5 passes - no errors

Quoted from How to Change the IP Range for the Internet Connection Sharing DHCP service Use Registry Editor to modify the data value of the IntranetInfo value in the following registry key: Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Settings\General The first number listed is the IP address of the internal IP address of the Connection Sharing host. The second number is the subnet IP address separated by a comma. Enter the first IP address of the new range followed by the subnet mask, separated by a comma. (For example, 169.254.0.1,255.255.0.0.). Modify the data value of the Start value in the following registry key: Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Addressing\Settings Change the value to the second address of the selected IP range. This address cannot be the same or a lower value than the IP address used for the IntranetInfo key. Modify the data value for the Stop value in the same registry key.   I just tried to install windows 8.1 on my laptop, but it fails to install with the message: Sorry we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We restored your previous version of Windows to this PC 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 It looks like on the first boot that the laptop is going to the PC restore screen (it asks what kind of keyboard I have, and then what repair optins I would like to take). Thus far I have just been selecting "Continue to windows 8." I'm running a Lenovo x220i tablet. I've got 43GB of free disk space. It installed just fine on my desktop. The primary difference between the two machines is that the desktop has media center install, and isn't using TrueCrypt. • Getting Android drivers to work on Windows 8 Community Preview

  I made a post about this on android.stackexchange.com, and they referred me to here. I have an HTC Flyer and a Motorola Droid X, and for both, I've been unable to connect to USB debugging to do Android development. With the Motorola Droid X, the MotoHelper installer won't run, saying that I'm running an Unknown OS Version. With the HTC Flyer, HTC's Sync software installs successfully, but again the device doesn't connect. I realize that this is beta software, but is there anything that I can do to get this working? I've been relying on switching back to my laptop running Linux to test out my Android builds on the device. Of course, I'm not in any production environment - just playing around with the new OS, but not being able to write code on it makes less fun.
