• Why ISO master (editor) does not read Windows images

  I have the followjng problem with ISO master software: I try to edit WIndows 7 ISO image $ isomaster windows7.iso The file does open, unfortunately all I get is README with message: This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification. isomaster comes form Ubuntu repository, I am using 12.04. The system has kernel support for UDF installed, I can mount above ISO (mount -o loop) and see its content read only. Any idea how to fix it? Using other than isomaster tool is also an option. • Hide individual regions on a territory map

  I have a map of adjacent irregularly-shaped territories. It happens to be a county map, but that's not important. In the game, the player only sees a few to start, and as he progresses to new territories, the ones adjacent to it are revealed. It's a territory-scale fog-of-war. I'm using Unity3D, and my inclination is to make a set of planes, each of which has an image of a single territory on it, and then arrange them manually like a jigsaw puzzle. It then is fairly easy to respond to a click on each region and also to mark the planes as visible or invisible, or even do clever things like fade or zoom on individual regions. This sounds like an arduous task, and if we need to change the visual design of the territories, we'd have to cut up the main map all over again into each of the individual pieces. Does anyone have a more elegant solution to this problem?

• Ubuntu 13.04 on Lenovo G580 > built-in (web)cam not recognized

  I've installed Ubuntu 13.04 on a Lenovo G580. Now I noticed that the built-in (web)cam is not being recognized. Does anybody know how to fix this and get the webcam running? Any help is appreciated! Thanks I've downloaded/installed the suggested program and the webcam is working within that program. However, when running Camera Test from the System Testing here's what happens: when clicking on "Test", there's NO image showing up a few seconds after clicking on "Test", an error message is popping up saying "Sorry, Ubuntu 13.04 has experienced an internal error" When going to Skype, video is enable and under "select webcam" there's "Lenovo EasyCamera (/dev/video0) as only option selected. But, Skype doesn't recognize the camera as there's no pictures. Any ideas on how to get this straightened out?

  IIS is configured for Integrated Windows Authentication. web.config is configured as follows: <authentication mode="Windows" /> <identity impersonate="true" /> We are Load balancing between \webserver1 and \webserver2. Windows Server 2003 \\webserverX creates a XML file to \\share1 and access is denied. We got pass through access denial by allowing Everyon to access the share... We would like to have the impersonated user to be the owner of the created file. Instead, \\webserver1's computer account is the owner. How can we make sure that the impersonated user has ownership of the file at creation time? PROGRESSION: I decided to create the file locally on \\webserver1's root directory. File's ownership is NETWORK SERVICES even if impersonate="true". I'm unable to change ownership of the file in C# code. Why when creating a file, IIS won't use the impersonated user's write permissions? If it actually does, what I am doing wrong?

• Do leaderboard sets (in Game Center) allow 500 unique leaderboards?

  The Game Kit Programming Guide for iOS claims: The number of different leaderboards allowed increases to 500 leaderboards per game when leaderboard sets have been enabled...Leaderboard sets offer developers the ability to combine several leaderboards into a single group. But their example (see image below) implies that a single leaderboard is placed into multiple leaderboard sets. Is that the only way to be able to use the full 500 leaderboards? by combining the same leaderboard into multiple sets? I want to be able to have 500 unique leaderboards that are not duplicated between sets. Is this possible?

• Why is the wrong name server information at crsnic.net & gtld-servers.net ?

  Did I screw this up? I don’t even know how this might have happened, so I’d like to learn. I’m trying out HostGator’s reseller service and I bought a domain name through it, but I didn’t want the default name servers and so I changed them during the registration. After registration the domain name record is correct everywhere except at whois-servers.net and whois.crsnic.net and it looks like the DNS network is using that same information. $ whois -h whois.enom.com. example.com ... • How to spawn a character at certain point and walk to a set point

  I am making a game where I have a background image of a neighborhood. Each location has a different number of customers that are generated to walk on sidewalks. They all walk to a specific location (like a stand or cart that sells stuff), after they get to location I want them to interact with the cart. However, if another customer is already in a sale interaction then the others get in line in order of arrival. After the transaction the customers walk off screen. Any information on how I can do this and what game engine would be needed? Any one have any idea where I should go for this. I already have my game done up through Eclipse/Java without any game engine.

• USB-live does not save files between sessions

  I created a USB-stick with Ubuntu, using the recommended tool "Startup Disk Creator" and the image for Ubuntu 13.10. The very simple interface looks like this: There can't be much to misunderstand in this GUI. I have chosen to create a USB stick with a live version of Ubuntu, which will save files and settings from session to session, on the USB drive, right? Well, it just doesn't save anything. I go in, create a file on Desktop, restart and it's gone. I did the whole procedure three times, i.e. first creating the USB, then testing if I could save. Have I misunderstood something?

  My colleague, Albert White, has published a useful article detailing how to set up local IPS repositories for use within an enterprise: How to Create Multiple Internal Repositories for Oracle Solaris 11 This is useful as most servers will not be directly connected to the Internet and most customers will want to control which Oracle Solaris SRUs (Support Repository Updates) are "qualified" for deployment within their organization.  Setting up and managing Internal IPS (Image Packaging System) Repositories is the way to do this. The concept can naturally be extended and adapted.  For example, Albert talks about a "Development" Repo containing the latest Oracle Solaris 11 deliverables.  When qualifying a software level for deployment across the enterprise, a copy of a specific level could be taken, e.g. "GoldenImage2012Q3" or "SRU8.5", and once it passes testing, be used to deploy across the enterprise. • Cannot boot from live cd

  I have a Hcl notebook P38 PDC, the hard disk is completely blank. I tried installing Ubuntu 11.04 as a .iso image from a cd but it did not boot. Later I tried installing it from USB using UNetbootin and also Universal USB installer but both in vain. Can someone please tell me what wrong am I doing or what else needs to be done. I am using a Toshiba pen drive 4Gb. I tried booting from the rescue mode but again had the same problem. Would be great if someone helps me out ASAP. Thank you( for reading as well as for helping).

• Set nomodeset in usb installation (efi loader with iso)

  I'm working with the studyblast solution (http://studyblast.wordpress.com/2011/08/14/guide-mac-os-x-lion-how-to-boot-a-linux-live-system-from-a-usb-drive-how-to-update-any-ocz-ssds-firmware/) to creating a live usb for osx. I managed to get Ubuntu booted but the screen looks like a corrupt/glitch image. I can just about make out the clock on the bottom right and a few icons. I've been told that this is an easy fix and that nomodeset needs to be set for the graphics card but all the solutions i find are for a hard drive installed Ubuntu where you can cd in and edit the grub file - how do you do this is it's in an iso? • Can you shade a specific section of a sprite? If so, how?

  I have been working on an isometric minecraft-esque game engine for a strategy game I plan on making. As you can see, it really needs some sort of shading. It is difficult to distinguish between separate elevations when the camera is facing away from the slope because everything is the same shade. So my question is: can I shade just a specific section of a sprite? All of those blocks are just sprites, so if I shaded the entire image, it would shade the whole block. I am using LWJGL. • Best way to do large XNA animations?

  What's the best way to have large animations in XNA 4.0? I have created a spritesheet with the sprite being 250x400 (more of an image than a sprite but hey ho) and there are approximately 45 frames in the animation. This causes problems for XNA as it says that the maximum filesize for Reach is 2048. I'd rather not change to hidef as I heard that means that your game is less compatible with some computers and systems so does anyone have any idea what the best thing I could do is? The only thing I could come up with is to have a list of textures to flick through but that's not ideal.

  Whenever I ask a question about game development in an online forum I always get suggestions like learning line drawing algorithms, bit level image manipulation and video decompression etc. However looking at games like God of War 3, I find it hard to believe that these games could be developed using such low level techniques. The sheer awesomeness of such games defy any comprehensible(for me) programming methodology. Besides the gaming hardware is really a monster now days. So it stands to reason that the developers would work at a higher level of abstraction. What is the latest development methodology in the gaming industry? How is it that a team of 30-35 developers (of which most is management and marketing fluff) able to make such mind boggling games?

• How can I map the docky anchor button so that it will launch the unity dash?

  Example of a Docky Dock I have the Docky dock on my desktop. It has an anchor logo button (as seen on the left side image of the link above) that brings up the Docky settings. I want to map it so that it opens my dash instead. I believe I can do this through gconf and by setting the docky button to either my super key or the necessary path required to open the dash function (but I do not know this path or how to code a button to a keyboard key). How can I map the docky anchor button so that it will launch the unity dash (as similar to when you simply tap the super key)?

• How to add a sound that an enemy AI can hear?

  Given: a 2D top down game Tiles are stored just in a 2D array Every tile has a property - dampen (so bricks might be -50db, air might be -1) From this I want to add it so a sound is generated at point x1, y1 and it "ripples out". The image below kind of outlines it better. Obviously the end goal is that the AI enemy can "hear" the sound - but if a wall is blocking it, the sound doesn't travel as far. Red is the wall, which has a dampen of 50db. I think in the 3rd game tick I am confusing my maths. What would be the best way of implementing this?

  I've had task to do - to make an graphical interpretation of adding two functions together: sin(8x) and multiplied -sign(x) in Octave, as shown on image above. And I've done that, but I don't know how to get rid of these lines, which link up gaps between separated values (for example, -1 and 1). I don't want them to be seen especially in third graph. To make helping me easier, I'm going to tell you what I did: I made linear series of numbers, from -100 to 99 (tempx). tempy = -sign(tempx) y1 = [tempy tempy tempy tempy] (this line is kinda funny, if you know Polish language) Creating y2 - sinus function y3 = y2 + y1 Plotting, subplotting... • What options to use for Accurate bacula backup?

  It's actually 2 question in one. First is a bit more theoretically. So when specifying accurate options how does bacula figure out if a file needs to be backed up ? it's a simple AND ? As in if the options are Accurate = sm5 bacula will not backup the file if ((size = old size) AND (modtime = old modtime) AND (md5 = old md5)) Is that correct ? Do any of the options take precedence ? as in would be a file skipped if modif time is diffreent but it has the same md5sum ? Are there any implied options that you cannot ignore ? Practical case, ( bacula 5.0.1 ) I have to back-up a svn repo, in order to be able to make incremental backups as simple as posible i am hotcopying (client run before) it to another location, that bacula will backup ( then delete it with client run after). Now in the fileset i have Accurate = spnd5 This should tell bacula to take into consideration size , permission bits number of links , decreases in size and md5sum. However , an incremental is also including a full copy of the svn. What am i doing wrong ? it seems that it takes into account creation time even tho i have not specified it.

• MAAS. Adding nodes

  Can anybody help me with MAAS installation? I installed it on 1 of my computers, configured DHCP server and now 3 PCs are in their own private network. I tried to add node via PXE image, but "Can not apply stage final, no datasource found! Likely bad things to come!" error comes after giving me option to log in. Then I tried to add node via web interface, but after adding it node's status is always "commisioning". So what should I do know? Any help is appreciated. Thank you P.S. • How to block FeedReader from fetching my content to their site?

  As you all can see from the picture below, my site's content is duplicated by FeedReader and indexed at Google. When I clicked at the FeedReader link, it uses some sort of iFrame to draw content from my site live. This forms some sort of content duplication to me, and I believe it does harm to my site. (Stackoverflow doesn't allow me to post image due to new account, pls click at the link above to see the picture, million thanks to you.) What can I do to prevent Feedreader to fetch my content to their site? I know robots.txt can perform such function, but I don't know how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated. I have also highlighted this issue to FeedReader 2 days ago, but yet to get any reply from them.
