• How do I bridge connections in windows 7?

  At work, our ISP has gone down, 3 days running. A company next door has kindly provided us with access to their wireless network, and I'd like to get our internal mail server (win 7) to become online via that wireless connection, while being accessible from within the LAN, but I'm struggling with the windows configuration. Our company's LAN subnet (wired interface) sits on 192.168.0. Neighbour's wireless subnet 192.168.1. I've tried bridging the connections but that disconnects the mail server from the Internet connection and the LAN. what do I have to do achieve this networking configuration? Kind regards, Wolfgang

• Why should krfb use so much cpu when I never use it?

  I was playing around with KSysGuard and I noticed the process using the most cpu was krfb, which is the server process for desktop sharing. I never use desktop sharing so I suppose it is a default loaded process. Why would this process use so much juice (around 15%) when I never use it and it really shouldn't be doing much of anything? I don't see any network activity so I don't think I am being hacked. I have suspended the process and nothing bad seems to have happened. Can I assume this is a safe thing to do?

• Problem with VPN using 2 Wire Router with a Linksys Router.

  I am having a problem with a VPN between a 2 Wire router and a Linksys router. 2 wire is the client PC using Linksys Quick VPN software and Linksys RVS4000 is the server. The PC is not the issue. It works on a different network not using 2 wire. Also the Linksys RVS4000 is not the issue, 3 other user can VPN to it with no problem not using 2 Wire. The problem is with 2 Wire. The client PC is getting this error: "The remote gateway is not responding" What configuration changes are needed on the 2 Wire router (port, UPNP, etc...) and what changes are needed if any on the Linksys RVS4000? Thanks.

• Where do I learn about IP blocks and subnets? Or is there just a calculator that does it all for me?

  Amazon's elastic compute tool (among others) requires the ip block format for their command: ec2-authorize websrv -P tcp -p 80 -s 205.192.0.0/16 I may be doing this wrong, but as far as I can tell I need to use the block format even for a single IP address. 1) So, how would I do that for this IP? 71.75.232.132 Several years ago I took a CCNA class, and I remember going over IPs and subnets, masks, broadcast addresses, class a/b/c networks, etc. However a lot seems to have changed since then - for example I don't think you can tell what "class" a network is in just by looking at it anymore - sometimes they could be multiple classes. 2) Anyhow, my second question is where do I go to get a refresher on all these things? 3) Or should I just be using ipcalc or an online calculator to do it all for me - and if so, which one?

  I have an Airport Express that I have plugged into a speaker system. I can change the music in my house with my iPhone through Apple's Remote app. Great. Now is my Airport Express compatible with Air Sharing? Can I 'push' music or sound to my Airport Express and out the speakers that are plugged into it? Or is this only possible with an Apple TV? And if I get an Apple TV can I do what I'm trying to do? 'Push' music from someone's iPhone that is on the same WIFI network as mine to a speaker system?

  Az Oracle Database 11g verziójától már OLTP adatbázisok is hatékonyan tömöríthetok az Advanced Compression funkcióval. Nem csak a tárolandó adatok mennyisége csökken ezáltal felére, vagy akár negyedére, de az adatbázis teljesítménye is javulhat, amennyiben I/O korlátos a rendszer (és általában az). Hogy pontosan mekkora tömörítés várható az Advanced Compression bevezetésével, az kiválóan becsülheto a Compression Advisor eszközzel. Ez nem csak az OLTP tömörítés mértékét, de 11gR2 verziótól kezdve a HCC tömörítés arányát is becsülni tudja, amely Exadata Database Machine, Pillar Axiom illetve ZFS Storage alkalmazásával érheto el. A HCC tömörítés becsléséhez csak 11gR2 adatbázisra van szükség, nem kell hozzá a speciális célhardver (Exadata, Pillar, ZFS). A Compression Advisor valójában a DBMS_COMPRESSION package használatával érheto el. • Moving Windows 7 profile to new user

  I have a laptop which I've been using as part of a corporate network with an AD login (and associated local profile). The laptop is loaded with Windows 7 Ultimate. I need to remove the laptop from this domain and, to start this process, I have already configured a local user on the box for me to use moving forward (granting this user the same local admin rights as the AD user). I'd like to migrate all the files, settings, etc from the local AD profile to the new non-AD profile. Is there a simple way to do this? Anything built into Win 7? As far as basic files I can probably just manually copy all the documents, pictures, music, desktop, favorites, etc... But is there a more streamlined way to move profile information? -Kevin

• Cisco Pix does not let traffic pass from outside to inside even though ACL permits

  I have tried to make my pix 515 allow traffic from outisde interface to inside, but despite permitting ACL's, it doesn't seem to let traffic through. (It is letting traffic out as it should though) I am have tried both of the following: access-list acl_in extended permit tcp any host 10.131.73.2 eq www and access-list acl_in extended permit ip any any None of them help, but I can access 10.131.73.2 from any host on the inside network. This is a one single host on the inside that should every now and then have an HTTP server running for development purpouses, so it doesn't need to reside on DMZ (and as far as I know, I can't place it on DMZ either as it's in the same subnet as the other ip's I have. Could I have missed anything? I am using PIX Version 8.0(4) My current running config looks like this: http://pastebin.com/TvRFyDrF Hope someone can help me get this working.

• Virus sending phishing emails through exchange server

  It appears that there is a virus on my network somewhere that is sending phishing emails through my exchange server. I can see the messages in message tracking and I see many SMTP errors for NDR's and rejected connections from external servers, but I do not see any SMTP authentications and I have logging up to MAX. How can I find the IP or hostname of the PC that is infected? Or is there some other explanation than virus? Anti-virus scan on server is clean. Server is not an open relay. Thanks

• Options for installing software on Amazon EC2 Windows instances

  I've been running Linux servers on Amazon EC2 for a while now; the experience has been great. I've recently needed to bring up a Windows server to run some Windows-only software that our product needs to use, and am running into a problem figuring out how to install the software, which is only available on DVD. With Linux I can just install packages from a Web-based repository and take advantage of EC2's fast network throughput, but so far on the Windows instance I've had to upload my ISO images to EC2 and mount them from the Windows EC2 instance. For some reason I'm getting really slow upload speeds to EC2, even though the regular upload speed from our office is pretty good (around 7Mbps). I've also tried mounting the DVD drive on my machine as a local drive on the EC2 instance via Remote Desktop, and then running the software install from the local drive, but I run into the same slow upload speed issue. Does anyone have a better way to install software from physical media onto an EC2 instance ?

• Windows Server 2008 R2 slows internet speed

  I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 as my main file server on my home network. I've noticed that often times when I start my day my internet connection speed is slow. I'll go to Speakeasy speed test and it'll be at about 25% of its normal speed. When I restart my Server 2008 machine it increases back to normal. It will stay normal until Server 2008 has been running for a while. Any ideas? Edit: I had installed Collabnet Subversion within the past week which installs/sets up some other stuff for web access, I just uninstalled it. I'll report back tomorrow if that fixed my problem.

• How to set the hostname according to the DNS name on Ubuntu 9.10?

  Motivation I have to manage a lot of virtual machines that I create by copying a template (VmWare image). Problem Now I have the problem that in the template the file /etc/hostname contains a given name that I want to change for each copy of the template. Facts The network interface is configured by DHCP. DNS entries exist. The system is a Ubuntu 9.10 server. Question I wonder if I can configure the template so that on startup it sets its hostname according to its DNS name. I could create an init script that parses the IP address, makes a DNS lookup and sets the hostname accordingly. But is there an easier way?

• How do I figure out what is changing the userWorkstations attribute in Active Directory?

  I just took over the IT for a medium sized business with a three domain controllers (2003/2008 Standard) and whenever I create a new user, after some time the user account cannot log into most machines on the network. I have traced this back to the "Log On To..." area becoming populated with a small list of machines. Even when I set the option to all computers, this list comes back after some time. I started hunting for vbs and ps1 scripts with the word "workstations" in them on all domain controllers to see if there is some kind of script to blame, but I have thus far come up empty handed. Is there a known software suite that can cause this (Microsoft Forefront, etc)? How can I figure out what is causing this list to change?

• WebCenter Customer Advisory Board meetings kick off Oracle Open World 2012!

  Welcome to OpenWorld! OpenWorld 2012 got underway today with a series of meetings with the members of the WebCenter Customer Advisory Board. Led by the WebCenter Product Management team, these meetings are a great way for the product team and customers to directly interact and discuss real-life business challenges, product details and to discuss upcoming features and functionality. This year, board members participated in discussions around live demos around product enhancements that will be featured throughout the coming week. Highlights included a variety of new mobile and social solutions, a great new user interface for WebCenter Content plus new Portal and Sites functionality that makes the experience for the everyday user a lot more pleasant. The day kicked off with Roel Stalman, VP of Product Management, giving a detailed overview of what’s new in WebCenter. Given all the improvements to discuss, this session went over 2 hours! Roel showcased the brand new UI for Content, Portal and Sites. He also gave live demos of the new mobile apps for WebCenter Content, Portal and the Oracle Social Network.  The attendees then broke into sub-groups in order to deep-dive with Product Management for the Portal, Sites, and Content product areas on specific functionality and application integrations.   Hello, What is a good MTA (e.g. Postfix or something else) setup for a home computer behind a NAT, or a laptop that is not always online? I've read a lot of Postfix tutorials on how to set it up this way or that, but they are usually geared towards computers that are servers ie they have a static IP have a domain name are always connected to the same network My requirements are, I guess: Ability to redirect mail for local users to another server of my choosing. No listening for incoming SMTP connections - outgoing only Ability to route outgoing mail via an external SMTP server with authentication (and perhaps encryption) If not Postfix, I need an MTA which can queue up mails in case it temporarily has no internet connection.

• Edimax wireless router is not providing DNS services correctly

  I have an Edimax router that is set up to connect to the internet via L2TP on cable, and on the LAN side it's set up as a DHCP server. The DHCP server gives correct IP addresses, but it sets itself up as the DNS server. However, it doesn't provide the DNS service. I am sure that it's a problem with the router, because I have two computers on the network with the same problem. I see that on the WAN side it gets correct DNS addresses from the ISP, so I'd expect the router to either pass these addresses through to the DHCP clients, or to serve the DNS requests itself by forwarding them to the ISP's DNS. However, it apparently does neither, and there is no DNS. I switched from ADSL to cable last week. On ADSL it connected using PPPoE, and the DNS worked fine. What can be the problem here?

• Windows 7 / Windows Vista won't connect to 802.1x RADIUS Server

  I've deployed Radius and have no problems connecting with TTLS, PEAP, or MD5 using linux, mac, and windows xp. For Windows 7 and Vista, I'm never prompted with the dialog box to enter username & password after configuring 802.1x support on the client. Steps taken: Enabled Wired Autoconfig in services.msc Set to use PEAP Set to require user authentication When I enable the network connection it says "Trying to authenticate" then fails with no error log / message given. The radius server gives no indication that there was ever a request (no Access-Reject - the client simply never tries to authenticate). On the windows 7 client, I can see that the DHCP server does not assign an IP to the client when 802.1x is enabled on the client (though it does when it isn't). How can I debug this further? Has anyone else run into a similar situation? My radius server is freeradius on Ubuntu 11.10.

• Best way to use my windows box as a backup?

  I put a 1.5 TB HD in my Windows 7 box and my main computer is a MBP. I have a lot of professional files/folders in a FireWire 800 external HD connected to the MBP and I want to use the 1.5 TB HD in my Windows 7 box as a backup for both the HD and MBP. Right now I am just copying files manually to the HD over the network and that's very slow and open to failure (not rsync'd.) Anyone suggest some appropriate solutions? Should I just figure out how to setup RSync on the windows box or is there a better alternative? Thanks!

• OSX 10.6 integration into NIS/netgroup/automount infrastructure

  I have an existing infrastructure where accounts are maintained under NIS (yp) with no local unix accounts. Also, all the standard maps including hosts, mail aliases, netgroups, etc...are maintained in this form. Extensive use of the UNIX/Linux automounter with items scattered over the network on NFS servers. There are NO ACLs on any local or shared files. All mail needs to use basically the nullclient sendmail configuration feeding into a different system. I now have a requirement to integrate an Apple OSX 10.6 system into this environment and make it run seamlessly. My initial reading and second-hand information seems to indicate that this may not be possible on the native OSX 10.6 system. I'm concerned. Any ideas as to how to accomplish this task and make everybody happy? Thanks PS: I have never used an Apple OSX system.

  Is there a way to prevent Mac OS X creating .DS_Store and other hidden meta-files on foreign volumes like NTFS and FAT? I share an NTFS partition with data like Thunderird & Firefox's profiles and apache's DocumentRoot, between Mac OS X and Windows, which is very handy. I don't mind if Mac OS X is not capable of indexing or otherwise doing the neat things those metafiles are for. Note: It's not shared over a network, both operating systems and the shared partition coexist on the same disk, on the same machine.

Read on: Summary: Oracle is the #1 player in  Supply Chain Planning  according to research firm ARC Advisory Group Details: The report (Source: ARC Advisory Group, “Supply Chain Planning Worldwide Outlook, Market Analysis and Forecast through 2016,” Clint Reiser, Steve Banker), gives Oracle 21.1% of revenue share, compared to SAP, who was second at 18.6%. JDA Software, Aspen, Logility, and Infor were the next players in the market. The total market was valued at $1.506B. ARC counts Software (new license and upgrades), Implementation Services, Maintenance and Support, and SaaS, in its definition. ARC defines supply chain planning to include four key application areas: Extended SCP, Manufacturing Planning, Inventory/Distribution Planning, and Demand Management. Extended SCP consists of Network Design, Capable to Promise, SCP Composites, and Extended Supply Chain BI software. In the report, ARC further gives Oracle the number one spot in both Software Revenues and Services Revenues subsegments, as well as in many vertical areas such as Government, Electronics and Electrical, Medical Products, Pharmaceutical, and Wholesale/Distribution. • Why Mac cannot connect to Iphone?

  I couldn't always ssh to my iPhone from my Mac. They're both on the same wifi network but sometimes the connection is established, sometimes it failed. • Wi-Fi connected but can't go to any site

  My Windows 7 laptop can connect to our Wi-Fi signal, I can sign in on Yahoo! Messenger, but I can't go to any site. I can access the Net on other devices. The issue started a few weeks ago, so I've been troubleshooting since then in vain. There's no virus, and I already used System Restore. In Wireless Network Connection Status, the received activity is greater than the sent activity. I turned off Windows Firewall and still no Net access. My ping tests: How do I fix this?
