• Are Vala and desktopcouch ready?

  Hi, I have started writting rss reader in Vala, but I don't know, what database system should I use, I cannot connect to couchdb and sqlite works fine, but I would like use couchdb because of ubuntu one. • On installing nvidia drivers on 12.10 I get "Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.5.0-19-generic (x86_64)"

  New Ubuntu user - just recently made the mistake of trying a different nvidia driver. I'd managed to get the last (nvidia-current) one working through software sources a few weeks ago. The other day I tried to cross over to nvidia-experimental-310 and this produced a system error. Swapping back and forth between proprietary drivers now always causes an error and I can't get any of them to work. Installing through the terminal I get this error message every time: Building initial module for 3.5.0-19-generic Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.5.0-19-generic (x86_64) Consult /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-experimental-310/310.14/build/make.log for more information On rebooting, I end up with the crappy screen resolution and the thick black border around the screen. I use gksudo software-properties-gtk to bring up sources, where I can change back to the nouveau driver, which restores my screen. After that I can't find /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-experimental-310/310.14/build/make.log so I can't tell you what's inside. Any ideas what might be preventing the nvidia driver from installing? SOLUTION FOUND Okay - so I have a workaround. This is what has worked: Upgrade to kernel 3.7.0 as detailed here upgrade to latest version of the nvidia drivers as detailed here No idea what was happening with kernel 3.5.0-19, but this seems to be better. A little slower maybe on boot, but after days of messing around it's nice to have something that works.

• How do I upgrade from ubuntu 9.10 to 12.10 on my Acer Aspire 3000

  I had my Acer Aspire 3000 as a dual boot XP/ubuntu 9.10 a couple years ago. I recently blew the dust of it and wanted to upgrade to 7/Ubuntu 12.10 so I began by formatting the Ubuntu side of the partition and apparently damaged the mbr as I could only get black screen with the error message: GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue I then slaved the hdd to my win7 desktop and formatted the entire drive, both sides of the partition then reinstalled it in the Acer and tried to install win7. Upon starting the Acer I got the same error message: GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue I then tried to reinstall Ubuntu 9.10 as I have an Ubuntu produced installation cd. Same result. Next day I received a new battery I had ordered for the Acer. I plugged it and the power supply in and hit the power button just to see if I at least could charge the battery but to my surprise Ubuntu 9.10 began to install, so I let it and it did. Now the hard drive shows 58 gb and 2.5gb partitions neither of which is formatted NTFS for/by windows. I am guessing that the GRUB/mbr was repaired somehow by the Ubuntu reinstallation. My question, should you choose to accept it; How can I get to my goal of dual boot win7/Ubuntu 12.10. I am a beginner and don't know much about linux or the terminology.   We’re using federated security with Office 365 and everything was running swimmingly and then I started getting the following error when trying to synchronize security information: “An unknown error occurred with the Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant. Contact Technical Support.” Great.  Very descriptive.  In the event viewer, you get a bit more detail: GetAuthState() failed with -2147186688 state. HResult:0. Contact Technical Support.  (0x80048831) If you do some searching, you’ll find that there are a couple of MSDN articles about this error.  In KB2502710 you’re told to reinstall sign in assistant.  This one requires a reboot.  In KB2517393 you’re told to make sure that your proxy settings are working correctly.  I’m not using a proxy and everything was set up right. Rather frustrating and I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  What finally keyed me in was the error number being presented.  Rather than 80048800, which is listed in the second article, I was getting 80048831.  I did a quick search and found something that was seemingly unrelated here.  Could it really be so simple as the password having expired for my synchronization user? Turns out, it was that simple.  Once the password was reset and reentered, everything worked great again. Since this isn’t a user that humans use, I also don’t want the password to expire.  You can find the instructions for that (use Set-MsolUser –UserPrincipalName <user ID> –PasswordNeverExpires $true) here.   I just received an email from the Development team explaining the detailed dates when what version of OBIEE will be in what stage of Support. So again for all readers who have not had the chance to look at the  lifetime Support policy from Oracle, I'll  try to explain this in easy words: Any major release is in "error correction support" by Development for another 12 months following the availability of a new major release. Examples: 11.1.1.5.0 was released in May 2011.  => So 11.1.1.3.0 (the version before that) went out of patching support ( or "error correction support" ) 12 months after that, i.e. June 2012. Note here: It went out of error correction support, which means Development will not fix bugs, or issue patches after that. The product can still be supported by Technical Support ( as "best effort support" ).So - Questions will still be answered, but there will not be fixes to bugs or glitches.11.1.1.6.0 was released in February 2012.  => Therefore 11.1.1.5.0 will be out of patching support / error correction support starting March 2013. I hope this clears up some of the questions/concerns that you might have had. Oh, and of course to mention the latest and recommended version to use: 11.1.1.6.0 + 11.1.1.6.5 bundle patch is "just what the doctor ordered".

  I'm writing a game where I want to use ContentTypeReader. While loading my model like this: terrain = Content.Load<Model>("Text/terrain"); I get following error: Error loading "Text\terrain". Cannot find ContentTypeReader AdventureGame.World.HeightMapInfoReader,AdventureGame,Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral. I've read that this kind of error can be caused by space's in assembly name so i've already removed them all but exception still occurs. • DLL Config in Mono

  Hi, I'm trying to pick up Svn.NET (http://www.pumacode.org/projects/svndotnet/) library for use in my Mono project. I tried compiling its mockapp - svnmockapp project (http://www.pumacode.org/projects/svndotnet/browser/trunk/SvnMockApp) , I am able to get the references right and get it compiled right. I understand that it references 2 other modules libapr (libapr-1.so.0) and svn_client (libsvn_client-1.so.0) , by which I've created PumaCode.SvnDotNet.dll.config in /bin/Debug . That is all I've done to tried to try to get the mockapp at least outputting something to show that it is indeed interfacing SVN. Nevertheless, it is not working. • Crash when trying to get NSManagedObject from NSFetchedResultsController after 25 objects?

  Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to Core Data on iOS, but I think I've been getting better with it. I've been experiencing a bizarre crash, however, in one of my applications and have not been able to figure it out. I have approximately 40 objects in Core Data, presented in a UITableView. When tapping on a cell, a UIActionSheet appears, presenting the user with a UIActionSheet with options related to the cell that was selected. That is, for the first 25 items in the list.   Hi, I'm porting an application with EJBs 2.1 from Weblogic9 to JBoss AS5. I have made some of the changes like adding jboss.xml descriptors to EJBs and fixing application.xml of the EAR, but there are still problems when deploying the EAR.   I have been banging my head with this one more the two weeks, and still don't know what the problem is ( I can't narrow it down). The problem is the following. I have a solution with 3 project in it all written in c# and I with LINQ. One project is the main web site, the other is the data layer (communication with the database) and the third one is a custom little CMS.   Hi everyone, I tried to figure this out for some days now, I tried to use my own object to sort of replace the global object to reduce problems with other scripts (userscripts, chrome extensions... that kind of stuff). However I can't get things to work for some reason. I tried some debugging with JSLint, the developer tools included in Google Chrome, Firebug and the integrated schript debugger in IE8 but there is no error that explains why it doesn't work at all in any browser I tried. I tried IE 8, Google Chrome 10.0.612.3 dev, Firefox 3.6.13, Safari 5.0.3 and Opera 11. • Backbone.js Model validation fails to prevent Model from saving

  I have defined a validate method for a Backbone.js Model. The problem is that even if validation fails (i.e. the Model.validate method returns a value) the post/put request is still sent to the server. This contradicts what is explained in the Backbone.js documentation. I cannot understand what I am doing wrong. • Project compilation requires a class that is not used anywhere

  When I build with ant my project that uses libgdx, I get a strange error. It says that a class com.google.gwt.dom.client.ImageElement is not found, but it isn't used at all in the code. How can I find what makes this class necessary? Even searching over the whole project doesn't give any results. It says that error is at PixmapTextureAtlas.java:16 (class source), but there is no code that uses that ImageElement class. Adding the library containing com.google.gwt.dom.client.ImageElement class helps, of course, but I'd like to figure out why this class in needed. • Mulit-tenant ASP.NET MVC – Controllers

  Part I – Introduction Part II – Foundation   The time has come to talk about controllers in a multi-tenant ASP.NET MVC architecture. This is actually the most critical design decision you will make when dealing with multi-tenancy with MVC. In my design, I took into account the design goals I mentioned in the introduction about inversion of control and what a tenant is to my design. Be aware that this is only one way to achieve multi-tenant controllers.   The Premise MvcEx (which is a sample written by Rob Ashton) utilizes dynamic controllers. Essentially a controller is “dynamic” in that multiple action results can be placed in different “controllers” with the same name. This approach is a bit too complicated for my design. I wanted to stick with plain old inheritance when dealing with controllers. The basic premise of my controller design is that my main host defines a set of universal controllers. It is the responsibility of the tenant to decide if the tenant would like to utilize these core controllers. This can be done either by straight usage of the controller or inheritance for extension of the functionality defined by the controller. The controller is resolved by a StructureMap container that is attached to the tenant, as discussed in Part II.   Controller Resolution I have been thinking about two different ways to resolve controllers with StructureMap. One way is to use named instances. This is a really easy way to simply pull the controller right out of the container without a lot of fuss. I ultimately chose not to use this approach. The reason for this decision is to ensure that the controllers are named properly. If a controller has a different named instance that the controller type, then the resolution has a significant disconnect and there are no guarantees. The final approach, the one utilized by the sample, is to simply pull all controller types and correlate the type with a controller name. This has a bit of a application start performance disadvantage, but is significantly more approachable for maintainability. For example, if I wanted to go back and add a “ControllerName” attribute, I would just have to change the ControllerFactory to suit my needs.   The Code The container factory that I have built is actually pretty simple. That’s really all we need. The most significant method is the GetControllersFor method. This method makes the model from the Container and determines all the concrete types for IController.  The thing you might notice is that this doesn’t depend on tenants, but rather containers. This is something that I don’t use and have no desire to implement and test. The reason I am not using namespaces in this situation is because each tenant has its own namespaces and the routing would not make sense in this case.   Because we are using IoC, dependencies are automatically injected into the constructor. For example, a tenant container could implement it’s own IRepository and a controller could be defined in the “main” project. The IRepository from the tenant would be injected into the main project’s controller. • JAVA image transfer problem

  Hi, I have a school assignment, to send a jpg image,split it into groups of 100 bytes, corrupt it, use a CRC check to locate the errors and re-transmit until it eventually is built back into its original form. It's practically ready, however when I check out the new images, they appear with errors..
