• jQuery validation plugin: valid() does not work with remote validation ?

  I got started by following this awesome tutorial, but wanted to do the validation on on keyup and place my errors somewhere else. The remote validation shows its own error message at the appropriate times, making me think I had it working. But if I ask specifically if a field with remote validation is valid, it says no, actually, its not. In application.js I have this... $("#new_user").validate({ rules: { "user[login]": {required: true, minlength: 3, remote: "/live_validations/check_login"}, }, messages: { "user[login]": {required: " ", minlength: " ", remote: " "}, } }); $("#user_login").keyup(function(){ if($(this).valid()){ $(this).siblings(".feedback").html("0"); }else{ $(this).siblings(".feedback").html("1"); } }) And then this in the rails app... def check_login @user = User.find_by_login(params[:user][:login]) respond_to do |format| format.json { render :json => @user ? "false" : "true" } end end I think that my problem might have everything to do with this ticket over at jQuery, and tried to implement that code, but, being new to jQuery, it's all a bit over my head. When I say bit, I mean way way. Any ideas to fix it, or a new way to look at it, would be a big help.

• Is this the best way to grab Common element from a Hash of arrays?

  I'm trying to get a common element from a group of arrays in Ruby. Normally, you can use the & operator to compare two arrays, which returns elements that are present or common in both arrays. This is all good, except when you're trying to get common elements from more than two arrays. However, I want to get common elements from an unknown, dynamic number of arrays, which are stored in a hash. I had to resort to using the eval() method in ruby, which executes a string as actual code. Here's the function I wrote: def get_common_elements_for_hash_of_arrays(hash) # get an array of common elements contained in a hash of arrays, for every array in the hash. # ["1","2","3"] & ["2","4","5"] & ["2","5","6"] # => ["2"] # eval("[\"1\",\"2\",\"3\"] & [\"2\",\"4\",\"5\"] & [\"2\",\"5\",\"6\"]") # => ["2"] eval_string_array = Array.new # an array to store strings of Arrays, ie: "[\"2\",\"5\",\"6\"]", which we will join with & to get all common elements hash.each do |key, array| eval_string_array << array.inspect end eval_string = eval_string_array.join(" & ") # create eval string delimited with a & so we can get common values return eval(eval_string) end example_hash = {:item_0 => ["1","2","3"], :item_1 => ["2","4","5"], :item_2 => ["2","5","6"] } puts get_common_elements_for_hash_of_arrays(example_hash) # => 2 This works and is great, but I'm wondering...eval, really? Is this the best way to do it? Are there even any other ways to accomplish this(besides a recursive function, of course). If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Otherwise, Feel free to use this code if you need to grab a common item or element from a group or hash of arrays, this code can also easily be adapted to search an array of arrays.

• Issue in alternate Row color using each() method of JQuery

  I have a table as under <table > <tr> <th scope="col">EmpId</th><th scope="col">EmpName</th> </tr> <tr> <td>1</td><td>ABC</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2</td><td>DEF</td> </tr> </table> I want to set the alternate row color of only the "td" elements of the table and not "th" by using only each() function. I have tried with <style type="text/css"> tr.even { background-color: green; } tr.odd { background-color: yellow; } </style> $(document).ready(function () { $('table > tbody').each(function () { $('tr:odd', this).addClass('odd').removeClass('even'); $('tr:even', this).addClass('even').removeClass('odd'); }); }); Though this works but it accepts also "th" element. How to avoid that? Please help Thanks

• Empty value when iterating a dictionary with .iteritems() method

  I am having some weird trouble with dictionaries, I am trying to iterate pairs from a dictionary to pass to another function. The loop for the iterator though for some reason always returns empty values. Here is the code: def LinktoCentral(self, linkmethod): if linkmethod == 'sim': linkworker = Linker.SimilarityLinker() matchlist = [] for k,v in self.ToBeMatchedTable.iteritems(): matchlist.append(k, linkworker.GetBestMatch(v, self.CentralDataTable.items())) Now if I insert a print line above the for loop: matchlist = [] print self.ToBeMatchedTable.items() for k,v in self.ToBeMatchedTable.iteritems(): matchlist.append(k, linkworker.GetBestMatch(v, self.CentralDataTable.items())) I get the data that is supposed to be in the dictionary printed out. The values of the dictionary are list objects. An example tuple I get from the dictionary when printing just above the for loop: >>> (1, ['AARP/United Health Care', '8002277789', 'PO Box 740819', 'Atlanta', 'GA', '30374-0819', 'Paper', '3676']) However, the for loop gives empty lists to the linkworker.GetBestMatch method. If I put a print line just below the for loop, here is what I get: Code: matchlist = [] for k,v in self.ToBeMatchedTable.iteritems(): print self.ToBeMatchedTable.items() matchlist.append(k, linkworker.GetBestMatch(v, self.CentralDataTable.items())) ## Place holder for line to send match list to display window return matchlist Result of first iteration: >>> (0, ['', '', '', '', '', '', '', '']) I literally have no idea whats going on, there is nothing else going on while this loop is executed. • Python: Determine whether list of lists contains a defined sequence

  I have a list of sublists, and I want to see if any of the integer values from the first sublist plus one are contained in the second sublist. For all such values, I want to see if that value plus one is contained in the third sublist, and so on, proceeding in this fashion across all sublists. If there is a way of proceeding in this fashion from the first sublist to the last sublist, I wish to return True; otherwise I wish to return False. In other words, for each value in sublist one, for each "step" in a "walk" across all sublists read left to right, if that value + n (where n = number of steps taken) is contained in the current sublist, the function should return True; otherwise it should return False. (Sorry for the clumsy phrasing--I'm not sure how to clean up my language without using many more words.) • Finding k elements of length-n list that sum to less than t in O(nlogk) time

  This is from Programming Pearls ed. 2, Column 2, Problem 8: Given a set of n real numbers, a real number t, and an integer k, how quickly can you determine whether there exists a k-element subset of the set that sums to at most t? One easy solution is to sort and sum the first k elements, which is our best hope to find such a sum. However, in the solutions section Bentley alludes to a solution that takes nlog(k) time, though he gives no hints for how to find it. I've been struggling with this; one thought I had was to go through the list and add all the elements less than t/k (in O(n) time); say there are m1 < k such elements, and they sum to s1 < t. Then we are left needing k - m1 elements, so we can scan through the list again in O(n) time looking for all elements less than (t - s1)/(k - m1). Add in again, to get s2 and m2, then again if m2 < k, look for all elements less than (t - s2)/(k - m2). So: def kSubsetSumUnderT(inList, k, t): outList = [] s = 0 m = 0 while len(outList) < k: toJoin = [i for i in inList where i < (t - s)/(k - m)] if len(toJoin): if len(toJoin) >= k - m: toJoin.sort() if(s0 + sum(toJoin[0:(k - m - 1)]) < t: return True return False outList = outList + toJoin s += sum(toJoin) m += len(toJoin) else: return False My intuition is that this might be the O(nlog(k)) algorithm, but I am having a hard time proving it to myself. • Request Entity Too Large error while uploading files of more than 128KB over SSL

  We have a web portal setup on Java spring framework. It running on tomcat app server. Portal is served through apache web server connected to tomcat through JK connector. Entire portal is HTTPS enabled using 443 port of apache. Apache version is : Apache/2.4.2 (Unix). it is the latest stable version of apache web server. Whenever we try to upload files more than 128 KB into the portal, We are facing 413 error: Request Entity Too Large The requested resource /teamleadchoachingtracking/doFileUpload does not allow request data with POST requests, or the amount of data provided in the request exceeds the capacity limit. In the apache error log we get the following errors: AH02018: request body exceeds maximum size (131072) for SSL buffer AH02257: could not buffer message body to allow SSL renegotiation to proceed We did search over google and there were suggestions to put SSLRenegBufferSize as some high value like 10MB. Based on these suggestions, we had put the following entry in virtualhost section of httpd config file: SSLRenegBufferSize 10486000 But still the error persists. Also we have specified SSLVerifyClient none, but still renegotiation is happening. This is a very inconsistent and frustrating error. Any help will be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. • RouterOS on Hyper-V (v3/2012) - any way to get it working?

  Trying to set up a small VPN point to connect into a remote Hyper-V cluster using ROuterOS. Anyone got it working ON Hyper-V with the latest builds of RouterOS? It seems the legacy network adapter is not supported anymore either (or just broken). The platform is a Windows Server 2012 RC. This is not a high performance setup - the RouterOS wont do the routing for more than the backend administrative access, and the only real traffic we will see there is when ISO images for new operating systems are uploaded. Otherwise we will have possibly RDP traffic as well as web / http traffioc, but this is internal only (dashboards, some control panel). The server has no public business. So the price for non virtualized network cards is ok for me. After hooking up - ping just does not work. After some time I see in windows (arp -a on the command line), so I know that the Hyper-V side is set up properly. Just no packets arrived. I have turned off all protection on Hyper-V (or : not turned them on), so no MAC spoofing protection etc. in the Advanced page for the legacy adapters. Unless I can get it work I will have to resort to using a windows install as router / VPN endpoint, which introduces another OS into the fabric (we run all routers etc. so far on mikrotik in hardware, which is why I want this one to be RouterOS, too). And no, putting hardware there is NOT an option - the cost would be significant.

• Dell VRTX - slow cluster shared storage

  I have a brand new Dell VRTX box set up as a Failover Cluster running HA Hyper-V virtual machines. This is my first time setting up clustering, and my first time with one of these boxes, so I'm sure I've missed something. The virtual machines are experiencing high disk latency and bad performance when accessing their VHD(x) files located on a Cluster Shared Volume. The VRTX has 10 x 900 GB 10K SAS drives in RAID 6 configuration, and the VRTX has the redundant Shared PERC 8 controllers. Both blades have full access to the virtual disks. There are two M520 blades installed, each with 128 GB RAM. MPIO is configured for the PERC 8 controllers. Operating system on the blades is Server 2012 (NOT R2). The RAID 6 array is split into a small (8 GB) volume for cluster quorum witness and a large (6.5 TB) volume for a Cluster Shared Volume (mounted on the nodes as C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1) An example of slow disk access: logging into a Server 2012 VM and having Server Manager come up automatically. Disk access goes to 100%, with write speeds at 20 MB or so, read speeds of 500 KB or so, and Average Response Time of over 1000 ms, sometimes spiking at 4000-5000 ms or so. It's the latency that really worries me. Is there something specific I should look at in my configuration? It doesn't seem to matter whether I use VHD or VHDX, dynamic or static.

  I am having a highly annoying problem on Windows 7 with Microsoft Outlook 2007. Whenever I click on any hyperlinks I am present with the message This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator and let's not forget the most ear-piecing "DING" to accompany this wonderful informative message. Now I have searched the web high and low for a solution here and most sources suggest the same solution of resetting your IE as your default browser. Tried .. failed A lot of sources suggest this has something to do with installing and uninstalling chrome. I have never installed Chrome but am actually consdering this to see if it by some chance fixes my computer. A lot of sources also point to a microsoft kb article 325478 which is focused around Windows XP and totally unrelated to my problem. I see there are some other queries on SuperUser with no resolution. Please can someone help solve this highly annoying issue. I am running Window 7 professional x64 Microsoft Office 2007 Microsoft Security Essentials Running in a windows work group with default policy settings HELP!

• Configuring default gateway returned by dhcp server

  Hello, I have a machine which connects via ethernet to a private LAN, and wireless to a network which provides internet connectivity. The private LAN uses a wireless router to perform DHCP. The problem is that the wireless and NIC adapters have different default gateways. The default gateway for the private LAN has a lower adapter metric, and is thus chosen by the routing algorithm. I am thus unable to browse the internet when connected to both adapters. The following link has a solution for manually setting the adapter metric to a high number. http://superuser.com/questions/77822/how-to-tell-windows-7-to-ignore-a-default-gateway I was hoping to find a different solution. Does any one know of a router that allows you to configure its DHCP server to return an empty default gateway? I cannot find such an option for my linksys wrt300n. Configuring a static ip address with no default gateway does work, however I would like to use DHCP if possible. Does anyone know of a different way to specify a default gateway for a windows 7 machine with multiple network adapters without mucking with the adapter metric? Thanks, Matthew

• Graphics card not working but integrated graphics is working

  I have a PCIe Geforce 6600 that I've been using in my PC for a couple years now without problems. Recently though I've not been using the PC and had it unplugged. When I when to use it again I accidentally plugged in the monitor to the VGA port for the integrated graphics instead of the 6600 card VGA port and began using it again (I'm currently running Windows 7). I then realized that I had the monitor plugged in wrong and switched the monitor to the 6600 port. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. When the monitor is plugged in to the 6600 port the monitor will not display anything; not when booting up or in Windows (so I don’t believe the problem is Windows related). I've even tried booting a live CD for Ubuntu to see if that will recognize the card but no luck. Somehow it seems I need to "turn off" the integrated graphics and instruct the PC to use the 6600 card but I'm at a loss for how to do that. I looked high and low in the BIOS for a setting to do this but cannot find anything at all. I have a MSI motherboard and AMI Bios. Any ideas?

• Apache reverse-proxy intermittent error 113 - No route to host

  I've got an Apache 2.0.52 server on CentOS 4 that front-ends a couple of App servers (mix of Jetty and Tomcat). Additionally, we're running memcache on same front-end and during the times when I'm getting those messages in Apache's log, the following command doesn't work: echo stats | nc 127.0.0.1 11211 No messages are printed, but neither are the stats printed. I am completely lost as to how to proceed with troubleshooting this. =(

• LDAP authentication issue with Kerio Connect

  We have Kerio Connect (mail server) running on a Windows Server 2003 server on a domain. In the webmail client, users are able to change their domain password. This functionality used to work fine until a user tried to change their password a few days ago, when every password they'd try would result in the webmail client claiming their password was "invalid". I spoke to Kerio about this and they claim that this error is returned by the domain controller, which supports my initial investigations. The error that the DC is logging when an attempt is made to change the password is this: "80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C090334, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, vece" The "data 52e" part indicates that this is an "invalid credentials" error. I don't see how this can be as I've tried (in the Kerio Connect configuration) various accounts that have privileges to modify accounts, including my own as I am a domain admin. I have ran 'dcdiag' (all tests) on the DC and it came back passing every single one of them. I've searched high and low for an answer to this and came up empty. Does anyone have any idea why this may have suddenly started happening? Thanks! Edit: I should mention that the passwords we are changing to do comply with the complexity policy.

• Email with extra '.com' behind sender email address

  Currently I had a situation where I sent an email to [email protected], but when I receive mail from [email protected], it showed as [email protected], with extra '.com' behind the email address, this just happen within this week. Before this, I didn't change any setting, currently I am using Outlook 2010. When I checked the email in webmail, it also showed it as [email protected]. It seem that it has nothing to do with Outlook. However, I also tried on Thunderbird 16.0.1, but still the problem is the same. Has anyone experienced this before? Is the problem caused by the sender or receiver? • Ierrs on Network Interface - Pfsense/Freebsd

  Hello all, We're using PfSense as an internal router/firewall (no connection to WAN). Using the Web-GUI, under Status --- Interfaces, there's one particular interface where I have some errors: In/out errors 3513/0 I then SSHed to the firewall to validate the info provided by the WebGUI and here's the output: # netstat -ni -I bce2 Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkt Oerrs Coll bce2 1500 <Link#3> 00:23:7d:cd:a2:a2 1404522323 3513 749797131 0 0 bce2 1500 10.42.1.0/24 10.42.1.24 6 - 6 - - As you can see, both present the same info (errors on incoming packets). I switched cables, changed network card, changed port on switch and I still see the errors. My 2 questions really are: 1) Is there any way I could get more info on the nature of these errors? or is this all I can get? 2) Should I be worried about this? As you can see, the errors are a VERY LOW percentage of all the total incoming packets. In other words, is this normal on a high-traffic gigabit interface? Thanks! JFA

• Help configuring Mercury mail or similiar with XAMPP to send e-mail outside of localhost

  I'm building a PHP/MySQL driven website for my department at work (installed via XAMPP). I need to be able to send mail to outside e-mail addresses (e.g., Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) using the PHP mail() function. As I see it I have to solutions: Configure the SMTP directive in php.ini to the server running at my work. Configure/run a mail server that can send e-mails outside of localhost (I'm trying Mercury because it comes installed with XAMPP). Here are problems I've come up against: I took a guess at our SMTP server name, and when calling PHP mail(), I get the error SMTP server response: 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated I can't be sure, however, the SMTP name is correct (I can't get help from our IT guys because of politics). I have tried to use mercury mail. Mercury seems to be picking up the request, but it doesn't want to forward the e-mail to the outside. I keep getting a Temporary error 240 (temporary MX resolution error). I've searched high and low but still can't find a definitive answer on how to send e-mails outside of localhost. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Programmable Home Security Alarm [closed]

  I don't ask for recommendation! (just wanted to say that; anyway it doesn't matter now as the question is closed) I've seen some advertisements about home alarms that notifies me that something is happening in my house. None of them mentioned programmability (with real programming language like e.g C, assembler, whatever). As a programmer I'd like to have a possibility to add some behaviour, that is not part of the alarm itself. This might be: take snapshots of all cameras in a house and send it to some email send email, twitter message, skype message to some predefined account send email to a police (silly, I know) start turning the lights on and off (scary, right?) etc. (would be veeery challenging with assembler, I know; but lets suppose I can use some more high level language) I don't expect that there is a alarm system capable of this stuff, that's why I'm looking for a programmable module. Question: Is it even possible? Is it good idea (my program could crash and cause instability of the system).

• How to find virtualization performance bottlenecks?

  We have recently started moving our C++ build server(s) from real machines into VMs. (MS Hyper-V) We have some performance issues that I've currently no idea how to address. We have: Test-Box - this is a piece of desktop workstation hardware my co-worker used to set up the VM before we moved it to the actual server hardware Srv-Box - this is the server hardware Test-Box-Real - This is Windows running directly on the Test-Box HW Test-Box-VM - This is Windows in a Hyper-V VM on the Test-Box HW Srv-Box-Real- This is Server2008R2 running on the Srv-Box HW. Srv-Box-VM- This is Windows running in a Hyper-V VM on the Srv-Box HW, i.e. on Srv-Box-Real. Now, the problem is that we compared Build times between Test-Box-Real and Test-Box-VM and they were basically equal (within about 2%). Then we moved the VM to the Srv-Box machine and what we saw there is that we have a significant performance degradation between Srv-Box-Real and Srv-Box-VM, that is, where we saw no differences on the Test HW we now do see major differences in performance on the actual Server HW. (Builds about ~~ 50% slower inside the VM.) I should add that both the Test-Box and the Srv-Box are only running this one single VM and doing nothing else. I should also note that the "Real" OS is Win2008R2(64bit) and the VM hosted OS is Wind2003R2(32bit). Hardware specs: Srv-Box: Intel XEON E5640 @ 2.67Ghz (This means 8 cores with hyperthreading on the Real system and "only" 4 cores on the VM, since Hyper-V doesn't allow for hyperthreading, but number of cores doesn't seem to explain the problem here.) 16GB RAM (we have 4GB assigned to the VM) Virtual DELL RAID 1 (2x 450GB HUS156045VLS600 Hitachi 15k SAS drives) Test-Box: Intel XEON E31245 @ 3.3GHz 16GB RAM WD VelociRaptor 600GB 10k RPM SATA Note again that I'm only concerned with the differences between Srv-Box-Real and Srv-Box-VM (high) vs. the differences seen btw. Test-Box-Real and Test-Box-VM (low). Why would one machine have parity when comparing VM vs Real performance and the other (server grade HW no less) would have a large disparity? (Both being XEON CPUs ...)

  I'm setting up an SSO for Active Directory users through a website that runs on an Apache (Apache2 on SLES 11.1), and when testing with Firefox it all works fine. But when I try to open the website in Internet Explorer 8 (Windows 7), all I get is "Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.   I want to know the REAL difference between Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional/Utimate. In India, the cost of different versions: Ultimate - 11,200 INR Professional - 10,700 INR Home Premium - 6,600 INR The absolute cost of the first two is so high to me that the difference (500 INR) doesn't matter. So to me there is really no choice between the first two - If I decide to buy the Professional version, I'd rather go for Ultimate itself. What I want to know is, whether Home Premium is enough for my needs. I tried searching for comparison but many look like just marketing junk from MS. They are short and vague. According to this page, the major differences between Pro and HomePremium are Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode. Connect to company networks easily and more securely with Domain Join. You can do both in Pro but not in Home Premium. I intend to use my Windows 7 for a small business - just starting up. So I'll be dealing with the following: All kinds of development tools, servers Very important - I will run Virtual Machine Software (MS VPC or VMWare or Sun VirtualBox etc..) My system will be acting as the server for most purposes till I can afford dedicated servers. Connect the system to a variety of network devices (PCs, Printers, etc..) Run productivity, business and financial apps Any other small software startup business requirement that I haven't thought of yet. Professional (and Ultimate) is twice as expensive as Home Premium. So it'd be great if someone can point out the things you cannot do with Home Premium, when you use it like I explained above, so that I can make a decision about which one to buy. • pfSense Firewall or Linsys/Cisco router for small offices

  I'm about to start switching some networks around for multiple small offices. Each office has about 10 to 15 users and 10 to 15 computers. Each office has a spread of generic routers and access points. The routers vary from being used as routers, to just being an access point for wireless. Nothing formal has really ever beem implemented for each of the 10 offices. What I'm wanting is to set up a pfSense box for each office to configure things like: traffic shaping (for VoIP QOS) URL Filtering DHCP static routing multiple VLANs I'll then use some of the existing hardware for wireless. Maybe even integrate the wireless right into the firewall depending on the office layout. So my question, would this be better to do a full blown firewall box, or but a new business class or high end consumer class Linksys router to do the URL filtering, QOS and DHPC? Each option could allow for remote access and VPN for remote maintnance and each would only cost a nominal about of money for something decent, i.e. under $250.
