  I need to select dynamic id using JQuery, and once I select it then I need to do some action on it. This is the HTML that I have: <input id="content_photos_attributes_1355755712119_image" name="content[photos_attributes][1355755712119][image]" size="30" type="file"> Please note the id value, text is always the same however the number changes (I do not have control over that change). What I need to do is to create on click for that element. • Screen brightness dull after upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 I found that I could not increase screen brightness. I'm using a Samsung NC110 netbook. Initially the function key to modify brightness did not respond at all. After implementation of the first part of the fix, the key came alive and the brightness bar could be modified. Yet at maximum brightness indicated the screen still remained very dull. The 2nd part of the fix cures that problem, at least for this type of machine. First part of the fix was copied and modified in line with my experience from following post: How to control Brightness Open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T). Then type sudo nano /etc/default/grub. It will ask for your password. Type it in. Around the 11th line, there will be something like: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash". Change it to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" Save the file by Ctrl+O followed by Ctrl+X. Then run sudo update-grub in the terminal. Reboot and see if backlight adjustment works. Then I needed to modify the rc.local file. Therefore read below fix to understand the procedure: problem with adjusting brightness Ubuntu 14.04 In my case I had 2 folders listed under /sys/class/backlight which were: intel_backlight samsung I realized that the samsung folder is governing. I had to modify the check for max brightness to: cat /sys/class/backlight/samsung/max_brightness In my case the max value obtained is 8. Besides putting this into rc.local, I also had to uncomment the first line to get this working. My rc.local under /etc/ now looks as follows: !/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other # value on error. # # In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution # bits. # # By default this script does nothing. echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/samsung/brightness exit 0 Now I can modify brightness on my netbook and also can get the screen up to its maximum brightness.   I wish to project a collection from one type (Something) to another type (SomethingElse). Yes, this is a very open-eneded question, but which of the two options below do you prefer? Creating a new instance using new: var result = query.Select(something => new SomethingElse(something)); Using a factory: var result = query.Select(something => SomethingElse.FromSomething(something)); When I think of a projection, I generally think of it as a conversion. Using new gives me this idea that I'm creating new objects during a conversion, which doesn't feel right. Semantically, SomethingElse.FromSomething() most definitely fits better. Although, the second option does require addition code to setup a factory, which could become unnecessarily compulsive.

• "find" command and piping its output through another program

  this is not an Ubuntu specific quesion, it applies to all unix/linux. how can I run a command like this: find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print -exec svn info "{}" | grep URL \; the command above doesn't do what I want, I can't seem to pipe the output of the svn info to grep. This works, but the output contains much more than I need: find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print -exec svn info "{}" \; Any ideas?

• What is a good design pattern and terminology for decoupling output?

  I have a program where I want to save some data record. And I want the output type to be flexible such that I could save the data record to a text file, xml file, database, push to a webservice. My take on it would be to create an interface such as DataStore with a Save() method, and the concrete subclasses such as TextFileDataStore, DatabaseDataStore, etc. What is the proper name/terminology for this type of pattern (I'm using the term "DataStore", log4net names things "appenders", .net they talk about "providers" and "persistence")? I want to come up with good class names (and method names) that fit with a convention if there is one. can you point me to a decent example, preferably in C#, C++, or java? Update Managed to find this stack overflow question, Object persistence terminology: 'repository' vs. 'store' vs. 'context' vs. 'retriever' vs. (…), which captures the terminology part of my question pretty well although there's not a decent answer yet.

  I'm trying to use LINQ to SQL to retrieve earnings data for a particular date range. Currently the table is set up as follows: Comp Eps Year Quarter IBM .5 2012 2 IBM .65 2012 3 IBM .60 2012 4 IBM .5 2011 2 IBM .7 2013 1 IBM .8 2013 2 Except for Eps, all fields have a data type of string or char. Eps has a data type of double. • How to create reproducible probability in map generation?

  So for my game, I'm using perlin noise to generate regions of my map (water/land, forest/grass) but I'd also like to create some probability based generation too. For instance: if(nextInt(10) > 2 && tile.adjacentTo(Type.WATER)) tile.setType(Type.SAND); This works fine, and is even reproduceable (based on a common seed) if the nextInt() calls are always in the same order. The issue is that in my game, the world is generated on demand, based on the player's location. This means, that if I explore the map differently, and the chunks of the map are generated in a different order, the randomness is no longer consistent. How can I get this sort of randomness to be consistent, independent of call order? Thanks in advance :)

The domain is registered with Google Apps for Business and the hosting is done with another company. I have some A records that are pointing the site to this server. However, as it appears the A records are only working halfway. What do I have to do to make it working for both http:// and http://www ?

• ATI propriatery drivers install latest 12.8, broke my kernel. Stuck on kernel 3.2.0-26

  I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me. I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it. I have kernel 3.2.0-29 too, but the system cannot see that as well. In the grub menu. When I use sudo update-grub, they are both listed.   Noob here. OK, I 1 Open the Dash. 2 Type "file". An app appears, called "files", icon looks like ta 2-drawer file cabinet. I click that, the app opens 3: I click the "Search button". I type the file name in the box and hit Enter. 4: The program thinks for a while, then displays a result. Great! the program found the file I was ilooking for! IT knows where myfile.foo is, BUT I DON'T! IT DOESN'T F%*%#ING SAY WHERE IT IS!!!! How do I find out where it is, please? I hate to say this, but is there an app that works like Windows Explorer (but doesn't crash every 2 minutes)?

  Retaining the names inside namespace will make compiler work less stressful!? For example: // test.cpp #include</*iostream,vector,string,map*/> class vec { /* ... */ }; Take 2 scenarios of main(): // scenario-1 using namespace std; // comment this line for scenario-2 int main () { vec obj; } For scenario-1 where using namespace std;, several type names from namespace std will come into global scope. Thus compiler will have to check against vec if any of the type is colliding with it. If it does then generate error. In scenario-2 where there is no using namespace, compiler just have to check vec with std, because that's the only symbol in global scope. I am interested to know that, shouldn't it make the compiler little faster ?
