  • How can I get the same SSID for multiple access points?

    I need to upgrade my existing wireless infrastructure and this time I want 2 access points to cover my house, since I get blind spots no matter what with a single AP. I have physical cabling to my central network available for both access points. I would really like these two to interoperate seamlessly as a single SSID. How do I do this? What are the features that the new access points I'm buying would need to support?

  • Planning office network [closed]

    I'm planning to setup my office network from scratch and want to ask professional opinions or tips. My office is connected to Internet with Cable connection (100Mb/s). The devices i would like to connect are VoIP Phone (RJ-11), TV (WiFi/LAN), 3 laptops (WiFi), a few smartphones (WiFi), iPad (WiFi), Kindle (WiFi) and, probably, MediaServer (WiFi/LAN). As you can see, the most load will be on WiFi connections (probably, even if TV supports WiFi it's better to connect it by LAN?). So, i need help to choose the best routers combination (or even one?) to support stable connections for all these devices and minimize the total number of routers/adapters. Any thoughts? Thank you!

  • Exploring other windows 8 machine's root

    (Note, this is without a domain.) I used to be able to type start \\other_machine\c$ in PowerShell and explorer would pop up with a login dialog. Then I'd type other_machine\moswald and my password (the account is a local admin, of course) and I'm in. Now both machines have Windows 8 installed, and this no longer works (the dialog re-prompts with an "Access is denied" displayed). I've verified (through whoami) that the user is named other_machine\moswald, and I'm positive I'm typing the correct password. So what gives? (edited to include specific result)

  • problem on expand network using a router

    I have a Netgear FS605 v3 router, and i'm trying to expand my network. The router is connected to the cable modem with cat5 cable. I have 2 laptop connected to the router but i'm only able to get internet connectivity in one. The first laptop i turn on, get the signal and the other one will show no connectivity. I have restarted all the devices many times but no luck. Can somebody explain me how to get this solved. Thanks.

  • I have a collection of dead consumer grade routers, should I buy a real one?

    Am I crazy for considering purchasing a Cisco 2621 for the house? I am familiar enough with IOS to set up a simple gateway router, I don't really need the experience. At this point, I'm a developer so my days of crawling through CO's and under desks are long past me. But I am really sick of crappy consumer grade networking gear. Maybe I have lousy luck and this stack of WRTG54s is just because I have lousy power, or whatever.

    I'm looking for an adapter that will let me use a USB 3 port as a Gigabit Ethernet port. This is proving surprisingly hard to find! Is there some reason why this product is either unavailable or very obscure? Is there an online shop (US/Canada) where I can buy such an item? Newegg, TigerDirect, NCIX, etc. do not seem to carry such an item. I find this surprising since it will provide at least double the bandwidth (possibly quadruple) compared to a USB 2 Ethernet adapter.

    I've installed CAT5e cable and gigabit switches in my house with the goal of having an "always-on" file server in the loft, accessible to both my macbook and my partner's Windows box. I'd like to find a solution which: uses minimal power. allows me to access as much disk bandwidth as possible. provides glitch-free file access to both MacOS and Windows. is as cheap as possible, while remaining reliable. Optional, but desirable extras: software or hardware RAID; open source solutions. A SheevaPlug with eSATA seems one possibility, but I'm sure there are any number of other good options.

    In the past, I created a NetBeans plugin for loading images as slides into NetBeans IDE. That means you had to manually create an image from each slide first. So, this time, I took it a step further. You can choose a PDF file, which is then automatically converted to an image for each page, each of which is presented as a node that can be clicked to open the slide in the main window. As you can see, the remaining problem is font rendering. Currently I'm using PDFBox. Any alternatives that render font better?     We are working in a Java/.NET company and my team and I are planning a project for a client. One of the requirements is that the project has to be done in .NET I've asked about this requirement, and the client said that it doesn't matter, and that if I have a good reason we can use other technology. But, I have to justify the decision. As a Project Manager / Analyst I'm interested in making the project in Java because: The team knows java much better, regarding the language and frameworks I don't know anything about .NET technology (and maybe we could make bad decisions thinking in a Java way to do things) There are other people in company that have more skills in .NET but they have other projects with more priority. For experience, I'm sure that if we use Java, the project will have much more quality. But this arguments could be weak from the client perspective. How can I justify making the project in Java? EDIT: I'm not asking if one technology is better than other. "It's not a technology war" question.

  • websites resolving in browser but not resolving in CLI. Can ping IP but not domain name (unknown host)

    Hi guys I'm currently developing using rails and for some reason bundle install is returning the following output Error Bundler::HTTPError during request to dependency API Fetching full source index from https://rubygems.org/ Could not reach https://rubygems.org/ I've discovered that pinging by domain name keeps returning an unknown host. The browser is still resolving web pages just fine and I've managed to confirm that the problem is localized (i.e. the rubygems page isn't down). I'm completely lost so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    I'm trying to incorporate PCGen into my application to avoid recreating the wheel for D20 system. (Are there any other libraries out there?) In other words I would like to use PCGen as a library and do things like: CRUD characters (and all related information) Experience/level managements I don't need the GUI part of it just the information to pass to my application. This is a scenario I can think of: 1. Load available custom classes 2. Create a new Character/NPC 3. Transfer the stats to my system 4. Player keeps playing so I need to update experience 5. Save player in my system and recreate it later. I'm trying to start to create a character from PCClass with no luck. Looking at the code it seems it'll try to load it. I assume load from a file generated from the GUI. Is there a way of bypassing the GUI for all this? I was looking for a tutorial of some sorts without luck. I was able to figure out how to use the dice within PCGen but that's about it. Any ideas?
