It tells you that Tomcat's standard data source factory is org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory, but I've searched every single jar file on my system after installing Tomcat on Fedora 17 and I cannot find one that contains this class. Where is it?

• Where does Rundesk execute local tasks from

  I'm trying to interact with the nodejs Azure sdk from a CentOS installation of Rundeck. If I try from the "run" adhoc virtual shell, I am able to after running azure account import <mykey> and can then also execute other Azure commands inside of jobs if I set them as Rundeck node tasks and not selecting "dispatch to nodes" in the job settings. Trying to run the Azure sdk commands as commands to be dispatched to the node (local) fails with the error: localhost1-NodeDispatch-localexec 04:53:04 /usr/bin/env: node: No such file or directory 04:53:04 Failed: NonZeroResultCode: Result code was 127 I am not able to "jumpstart" the same environment by running azure account import <mykey> I am assuming this is a permissions/environmental issue, though not sure how to fix it. UPDATE: Executing whoami from the same job returns rundeck, so I assume I will need to either modify that to execute tasks as my system user or grant permissions to get the rundeck user into the node environment the Azure sdk is running in?

• Alternatives for heapdumps creation with higher performance than jmap?

  Hi, I have to create heapdumps, which works nice with jmap. My problem is, that jmap takes very long to create the heapdump file. Especially when the heap is getting bigger ( 1GB) it is taking too long. One situation as example: When the server gets into trouble with the heapspace, I want to restart it automatically and create a heapdump before the restart. This works, but takes too long to write the heapdump. This way the server is down for too long. The heapdump creation takes longer than one hour. I know about -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError, but most of the time I can find the memory problem before the exception is thrown by the jvm. Is there an alternative to jmap which writes the heapdumps faster? A special solution for the example above would also be appreciated. This question is a mix between programming and system-administration, but I think I'm at the right place here.

• ColdFusion 9 server not restaring - “Permission denied” errors

  I had to restart my ColdFusion 9 server on CentOS because of a memory performance issue, but now the server won't restart again. When looking at cfserver.log I can see how there's "Permission denied" errors all along. The ColdFusion application folder (/opt/coldfusion9/) is owned by nobody:root, as that fixed a similar problem that we had a few weeks ago. Also, the last time this CF server was running correctly, the JRE user that was being used was nobody. Maybe CF is trying to restart using another user (presumably apache) and that creates permission issues? However, I'm not sure how to check this hypothesis. Where's the config file that tells CF what JRE user to utilize? If I can change that, I could try to specify nobody there. Any other ideas also welcome. UPDATE: The runtime user that Coldfusion will utilise is defined in /etc/init.d/coldfusion_9. I fixed the problem by being consistent with the users: I needed to revert the ownership of the folder /opt/coldfusion9/ back to apache:root, which matches the init file.

  I have a CentOS 5.2 server set up with Apache 2.2.3 and Tomcat 5.5.27. The server hosts multiple virtual hosts connected to multiple Tomcats. For instance we have one tomcat for development and testing and one tomcat for production. project.demo.us.com points to dev tomcat and project.us.com points to production tomcat. Tomcat's webapps directory contains project.war and the server automatically deployed it under project directory which contains index.jsp and hello.html. The latter is for static debugging purposes. Now when I try to access http://project.demo.us.com/project/index.jsp, I get Tomcat's HTTP Status 404 - The requested resource () is not available. The same thing happens to hello.html so it's not working with static content either. Apache's access_log contains: 88.112.152.31 - - [10/Aug/2009:12:15:14 +0300] "GET /demo/index.jsp HTTP/1.1" 404 952 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2" I couldn't find any mention of the request in Tomcat's logs. If I shutdown this specific tomcat, I no longer get Tomcat's 404 but Apache's 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable, so I should be configuring the correct Tomcat. Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Is there any place where I could find out what path the Tomcat is using to look for requested files?

I want the solr service to startup if I reboot my computer, and I also want it to run by itself instead of me opening up cmd.exe and running it manually, and then having to close my terminal connection (not log off as that will close it). The ideal scenario is like this: The default parameter values are applied when the program is started. However, when the user wants to change some jre parameter values, he goes to a .ini file, MyProgram.ini for example, changes the values there, and the new values will be applied next time the program is started. I think eclipse uses the same way for its memory and some other parameter settings.

  In brief: IIS 7 + Apache Tomcat 7 + isapi_redirect.dll: I have a deployed and working Tomcat-application available under http://localhost:8080/my_app. I would like to see the same content under http://my_app.local (and NOT the default Tomcat-site [which you can see below]). How can I do that? Longer explained: I have IIS 7 (7.5.7600.16385) and Apache Tomcat/7.0.22 installed. I deployed an application (let's call it "my_app") in Tomcat, which now can be reached at http://localhost:8080/my_app, works fine. I added a new web site in IIS panel with the path of the Tomcat deployed my_app, which looks like this: "c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\webapps\my_app" I binded the host name my_app.local. After that, I configured isapi_redirect.dll like this (or that). Now, when I open http://my_app.local, I can see the default Tomcat site (see below). BUT under http://my_app.local I would like to see the same content as under http://localhost:8080/my_app. How can I do that? • Access keystore on Sun ONE Webserver 6.1 for 2048 bit key length SSL

  We want to get 2048 bit key length CSR requests. The browser based GUI provides us with a 1024 bit CSR and I don't know how to change that. It seems that 1024 bit key lengths will no longer supported by SSL companies. (Lower cost options only support 2048 bit. Thawte who is much more expensive say they accept 1024 for only one or two year certificates, but not 3). The legacy systems in question are running Sun ONE Webserver 6.1. Upgrading would be time consuming and we would rather not have to do that right now. We will be phasing these out but it will take awhile, so... • Running Sonatype Nexus in Tomcat 7.0, Tomcat blocking PUT requests

  I was previously running Nexus 1.8 on OSX and uploading jars for releases without any issues. The OSX box died, so I moved to a FreeBSD server. Since Nexus doesn't have binaries for FreeBSD, I decided to run it in my Tomcat container. Now, I have set up Nexus 1.9 in Tomcat 7.0 on FreeBSD. Everything is working well, except I can't upload jars to my release or snapshot repositories. If I try via Hudson, I get a 401 error (and no further details). If I try manually via curl, I get an error message back from Tomcat: "This request requires HTTP authentication.". Why is Tomcat giving this error, and how do I stop it? If I look in the Nexus logs I can see that the PUT request doesn't even reach Nexus, Tomcat is intercepting it.

• Connecting jconsole using SOCKS to Amazon EC2

  I'm trying to use jconsole to view stats on an EC2 instance by using a socks proxy created by SSH. I then run jconsole -J-DsocksProxyHost=localhost -J-DsocksProxyPort=8123 service:jmx:rmi:///jndi/rmi://ec2-XX-XX-XXX-XXX.compute-1.amazonaws.com:8080/jmxrmi I run netstat -n on my EC2 instance and I see a connection created by my machine. However, the connection eventually disappears and I get a 'channel 2: open failed: connect failed: Operation timed out' from my ssh tunnel. I've opened the jmx port through the security group and I've checked the port on the EC2 instance to make sure it's open (by telnet-ing to it). I'm not sure where to look next. Are there some properties in sshd_config or ssh_config I need to enable for tunneling? Or anything in Mac OS X? I feel like a serious noob but sys administration is really not my strong point. I've spent several hours and can't get this to work.

Last friday we installed some windows updates. After the reboot tomcat doesnt start with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts.   I am developing an application which uses embedded tomcat server 7, and deploys a web application on embedded server. My application accesses the embedded webapp through Rest APIs, but my clients are getting Connection Timed Out exceptions and port is also not blocked. I never gets this exception when I install this application on my local machine. Some points: IP address is used in the host name part (They are able to access this IP address on other port) Port is not blocked We are using Apache HttpClient library to access the URL Timeout interval seems not to be an issue. What are the possible reasons for this exception Connection Timed Out? or How can I simulate this problem on my local machine? Any pointers would be helpful.

• Why does Tomcat try to use the cache when compilation failed?

  For some reason, it appears Tomcat is trying to hit its compilation cache when compilation failed. For example, if I create a JSP containing nothing but Hello, <%=world%>!, predictably, I get an error: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP. Subsequent requests however alternate between this and org.apache.jasper.JasperException: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to load class for JSP. Further, if I create a JSP containing Hello!, it of course works just fine. If I modify it contain Hello, <%=name%>!, the response alternates between the previously-mentioned compilation error, and the cached Hello!. What's going on?

• Jetty8 virtual hosts

  I have a server JAR that is deployed once per customer, it is the API server for their software package. To that end, the port for each API instance must be the same, so that anything programmed against it can always find it. Each instance is deployed on a different domain name The problem I'm having is that, even when using a SelectChannelConnector and setting the host property, I can't get two instances to run simultaneously, I get a BindException with "Address already in use". I suppose my question is: can Jetty do this, or do I need to do some external re-writing, or is there a better way I can go about achieving the same ends? Thanks.
