  • Scaling Java applications - existing cluster-aware IoC frameworks?

    - by Zoltan
Most people use some kind of an IoC framework - Guice, Spring, you name it. Many of us need to scale their applications too, so they complicate their lifes with Terracotta, Glassfish/JBoss/insertyourfavouritehere clusters. But is it really the way to go? Are you using any of the above? Here's some ideas we currently have implemented in a yet-to-be-opensourced framework, and I'd like to see what you think of it, or maybe "it's a complete ripoff of XY!". cluster-wide object replication - give it a name, and whenever you do something (in any node) on such an object, it will get replicated - with different guarantees do transparent soft-loadbalancing - simplest scenario: restful webservice method call proxied to an other node view-only node injection: inject a proxy to a "named" object, and get your calls automatically proxied to a node Would you use something like that? Is there a current, stable, enterprise-ready implementation out there?

  • Will there be IQueryable-like additions to IObservable? (.NET Rx)

    - by Jason
The new IObservable/IObserver frameworks in the System.Reactive library coming in .NET 4.0 are very exciting (see this and this link). It may be too early to speculate, but will there also be a (for lack of a better term) IQueryable-like framework built for these new interfaces as well? One particular use case would be to assist in pre-processing events at the source, rather than in the chain of the receiving calls. For example, if you have a very 'chatty' event interface, using the Subscribe().Where(...) will receive all events through the pipeline and the client does the filtering. What I am wondering is if there will be something akin to IQueryableObservable, whereby these LINQ methods will be 'compiled' into some 'smart' Subscribe implementation in a source. I can imagine certain network server architectures that could use such a framework. Or how about an add-on to SQL Server (or any RDBMS for that matter) that would allow .NET code to receive new data notifications (triggers in code) and would need those notifications filtered server-side.

  • how to view internal jaxws logs in tomcat

    - by prmatta
I have a web service that is deployed in tomcat, and it is rejecting a soap request over https. However, I can't see any logs as to why it is doing so. I have the following set in my service endpoint implementation file: System.setProperty("javax.net.debug", "all"); System.setProperty("java.security.debug", "all"); And I pass the following parameters to tomcat: -Dcom.sun.xml.ws.transport.http.HttpAdapter.dump=true -Dcom.sun.xml.ws.transport.http.client.HttpTransportPipe.dump=true Is there anything else I need to do to see the internal jaxws logs? Are there some other loggers I need to enable?

  • New to C# and trying to use a global variable

    - by Andrew G. Johnson
    Is it possible to use global variables in C#? I'm coming from mainly a PHP background so variables are either accessible everywhere or just a global definition away. My main issue is I have a User class that I built myself to wrap around the current users table on my company's database. I am defining it in the MasterPage but can't seem to access it from the actual pages (I don't know if there's a better word to describe them but they are the pages that inherit the styles and format from the MasterPage) Any general tips or implementation practices for me? EDIT: here's some code snippets of what I'm trying to do: Site.master.cs public partial class SiteMaster : System.Web.UI.MasterPage { public User user = new User(); } logout.aspx <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="logout.aspx.cs" Inherits="logout" %> <%@ MasterType virtualPath="~/Site.master"%> logout.aspx.cs public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { User user = Master.user; } }

  • Permanently write variables to a php file with php

    - by Oliver
I need to be able to permanently change variables in a php file using php. I am creating a multilanguage site using codeigniter and using the language helper which stores the text in php files in variables in this format: $lang['title'] = "Stuff"; I've been able to access the plain text of the files using fopen() etc and I it seems that I could probably locate the areas I want to edit with with regular expressions and rewrite the file once I've made the changes but it seems a bit hacky. Is there any easy way to edit these variables permanently using php? Cheers

  • Use delegate for Projection in Linq to SQL

    - by Redeemed1
I have code something like this in an IRepository implementation in Linq to Sql: var newlist = from h in list where h.StringProp1 == "1" select new MyBusinessBO{ firstProp = h.StringProp1, secondProp = h.StringProp2 }; The projection into MyBusinessBO is not difificult but when the Business Object has many properties the projection code becomes very lengthy. Also, as the projection can occur in several places in the Repository we break the DRY principle. Is there any way to abstract out the projection or replace it with a delegate? I.e. replace the code firstProp = h.StringProp1, secondProp = h.StringProp2 with something reusable?

  • Using Interfaces in an action signature of ASP.NET MVC controller

    - by Dmitry Borovsky
Hello, I want to use interface in Action signature. So I've tried make own ModelBinder by deriving DefaultModelBinder: public class InterfaceBinder<T> : DefaultModelBinder where T: new() { protected override object CreateModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext, Type modelType) { return base.CreateModel(controllerContext, bindingContext, typeof(T)); } } public interface IFoo { string Data { get; set; } } public class Foo: IFoo /*other interfaces*/ { /* a lot of other methods and properties*/ public Bar Data{get;set;} string IFoo.Data { get{return Data.ToString()}; set{Data = new Bar(value)}; } } public class MegaController: Controller { public ActionResult Process([ModelBinder(typeof(InterfaceBinder<Foo>))]IFoo foo){/*bla-bla-bla*/} } But it doesn't work. Does anybody have idea how release this behaviour? And yes, I know that I can make my own implementation of IModelBinder, but I'm looking for easier way.

  • Overcoming C limitations for large projects

    - by Francisco Garcia
One aspect where C shows its age is the encapsulation of code. Many modern languages has classes, namespaces, packages... a much more convenient to organize code than just a simple "include". Since C is still the main language for many huge projects. How do you to overcome its limitations? I suppose that one main factor should be lots of discipline. I would like to know what you do to handle large quantity of C code, which authors or books you can recommend.

  • Working with OAuth on Google with Python

    - by Dan Loewenherz
I'm having a very frustrating time creating a valid signature for Google's OAuth implementation. I have narrowed it all down to the fact that my signature-generation code has an error of some sort; what it is I have no idea. This is the signature base string in its entirety: GET&https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Faccounts%2FOAuthGetAccessToken&oauth_consumer_key%3Ddlosplayground.appspot.com%26oauth_nonce%3D72815d55697cb24301fab03e1f7f1d66%26oauth_signature_method%3DHMAC-SHA1%26oauth_timestamp%3D1274327867%26oauth_token%3D4%252FX2cZ54JuseQbgRwzTBzZ7lqIwqof%26oauth_verifier%3Dihf0F2Fx%252FpnCmwbVQnk2xMre%26oauth_version%3D1.0 The OAuth Playground returns an oauth_signature of gF8qAfWjpdKjKb4KR%2FvA2Gy0vhU%3D. My code gives me ikMpIKJQJ58jseg%2BKPBTecjmYPE%3D, so obviously I'm doing something wrong. Here's my signature generation code (equivalent to that of the standard oauth.py library): binascii.b2a_base64(hmac.new(CONSUMER_SECRET, BASE_STRING, hashlib.sha1).digest())[:-1] Any thoughts?

  • Linux - How do i know the block map of the given file and/or the free space map of the partition.

    - by Inso Reiges
Hello, I am on Linux and need to know either of the two things: 1) If i have a regular file on some file system on a partition under Linux is there a way to know the set of the physical blocks that this file occupies on the drive from user space? Or at least the set of the file system's clusters? 2) Is there a way to get the same information about the whole free space of the given file system? In both cases i understand that if there is any possible way to extract this info it will probably be totally unsafe and racy (anything could happen to these set of blocks between the time i see them and act on them somehow). I also really don't want an implementation that will have to know a lot about every filesystem.

I've got a little problem. I am applying some changes to an iOS program i wrote, but I've struck a problem. I constantly get a "Expected '{' before ')' token" warning, but my coding skills aren't good enough to find the problem. A little help would greatly be appreciated. #import "Search.h" #import "RootViewController.h" //button - (IBAction)buttonPressed)sender{ RootViewController *newview = [[RootViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"RootViewController" bundle:nil]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFl ipFromRight forView:self.view cache:YES]; [self.view addSubview:newview.view]; [UIView commitAnimations]; @implementation Search @end

  • Help Me Understand C++ Header files and Classes

    - by JamesW
OK, So I am trying to transition from intermediate Delphi to C++ Object Oriented programing. I have read Ivar Horton's book on visual C++ 2010. I can pull off the simple console applications no problem. I get the language itself (kinda). Where I am struggling is with headers and classes. I also understand what header files and classes do in general. What I am not getting is the implementation when do I use a header or a class? Do I need to create classes for everything I do? Do my actual work functions need to be in header files or in CPP files? I'm lost on the proper uses of these and could use some real world guidance from more experienced programmers. I am trying to transition to windows applications using the MFC if that is helpful.

  • Changing MSSQL Database sorting

    - by plaisthos
I have a request to change the collation of a MS SQL Database: ALTER DATABASE solarwind95 collate SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS but I get this strange error: Meldung 5075, Ebene 16, Status 1, Zeile 1 Das 'Spalte'-Objekt 'CustomPollerAssignment. Sorry for the german errror message. I do not know how to switch the language to english, but here is a translation: Translation: Message 5075, Layer 16, Status 1, Row 1 The 'column' object 'CustomPollerAssignment.PollerID' depends on 'Database sorting. The database sorting cannot be changed if a schema bound object depends on it. Remove the dependency of the database sortieren and retry. I got a ton more of the errors like that.

  • Vim: different key mapping for different window

    - by rahul
My .vimrc file has filetype mappings for different filetypes such as : autocmd FileType sh map gf ... autocmd FileType ruby map gf ... While rewriting a program from one language to another, I have 2 splits, one with a shell script and one with ruby. I would assume that "gf" would take on its mapping based on filetype. However, it can only hold one mapping at a time. Is there any way to declare a mapping only for the existing file/window. I tried ":windo" and ":bufdo" but they work for all windows or buffers.

  • Binding a Java Integer to JavaScriptEngine doesn't work

    - by rplantiko
To see how binding Java objects to symbols in a dynamic language works, I wrote the following spike test, binding a java.lang.Integer to the symbol i to be changed in JavaScript: @Test public void bindToLocalVariable() throws ScriptException { javax.script.ScriptEngineManager sem = new javax.script.ScriptEngineManager(); javax.script.ScriptEngine engine = sem.getEngineByName("JavaScript"); Integer i = new Integer(17); engine.put( "i", i ); engine.eval( "i++;" ); // Now execute JavaScript assertEquals( 18, i.intValue() ); } Unfortunately, I get a failure. java.lang.AssertionError: expected:<18> but was:<17> JavaScript knows the symbol i (otherwise it would have thrown a ScriptException which is not the case), but the increment operation i++ is not performed on the original Integer object. Any explanations?

  • Entity Framework query builder methods: why "it" and not lambdas?

    - by nlawalker
I'm just getting started with EF and a query like the following strikes me as odd: var departmentQuery = schoolContext.Departments.Include("Courses"). OrderBy("it.Name"); Specifically, what sticks out to me is "it.Name." When I was tooling around with LINQ to SQL, pretty much every filter in a query-builder query could be specified with a lambda, like, in this case, d = d.Name. I see that there are overrides of OrderBy that take lambdas that return an IOrderedQueryable or an IOrderedEnumable, but those obviously don't have the Execute method needed to get the ObjectResult that can then be databound. It seems strange to me after all I've read about how lambdas make so much sense for this kind of stuff, and how they are translated into expression trees and then to a target language - why do I need to use "it.Name"?

  • All Permutations of a string when corresponding characters are not in the same place

    - by r20rock
I need all possible permutations of a given string such that no character should remain at the same place as in the input string. Eg. : for input "ask" Output: all possible permutaions like "ksa", "kas"... such that 'a' is not in the 1st position , 's' is not in the 2nd positions and so on... in any permutation. I only need the count of such possible permutations I can do this by generating all permutations and filtering them but I need a very efficient way of doing this. All characters in the string are "UNIQUE" Preferred language C++.

  • Why people don't use LabView for purposes other than data acquisition and virtualization?

    - by Anzurio
This is marked as a subjective question, I hope I won't get too many down votes though. LV seems to offer a nice graphic alternative to traditional text based programming. As I understand, it's not a just-virtualization/data acquisition programming language. Nonetheless, it seems to have that paradigm pegged to its creator's name. My question comes up because it doesn't seem to be widely used for multi-purpose applications. I'm not a LV-expert of any kind, I'm more like a learner. I'm still getting used to LV.

  • Find all paths from root to leaves of tree in Scheme

    - by grifaton
Given a tree, I want to find the paths from the root to each leaf. So, for this tree: D / B / \ A E \ C-F-G has the following paths from root (A) to leaves (D, E, G): (A B D), (A B E), (A C F G) If I represent the tree above as (A (B D E) (C (F G))) then the function g does the trick: (define (g tree) (cond ((empty? tree) '()) ((pair? tree) (map (lambda (path) (if (pair? path) (cons (car tree) path) (cons (car tree) (list path)))) (map2 g (cdr tree)))) (else (list tree)))) (define (map2 fn lst) (if (empty? lst) '() (append (fn (car lst)) (map2 fn (cdr lst))))) But this looks all wrong. I've not had to do this kind of thinking for a while, but I feel there should be a neater way of doing it. Any ideas for a better solution (in any language) would be appreciated.

  • Suggestions: Anti-Pattern counter-examples

    - by Tom W
It doesn't seem that this exact question has been asked before, so I'll fire away: Most of us are familiar with the concept of an anti-pattern. However, avoiding implementation of anti-patterns can in principle swing too far the other way and cause problems itself. As an example, "Design by Committee" has a counter-example that I'd call "Design by Maverick" - wherein the design of an important feature is handed off to an individual to do what they think best, with the intention of reviewing their work later and deciding whether it should be finalised or go through another iteration. This takes much longer in practice as the rest of the team are occupied by other things, and can end up with a feature that's useful to nobody, particularly if the Maverick is not themselves an experienced end-user. Does anyone have any more examples of anti-pattern counter-examples?

  • Simple ViewController / View, remove white bar?

    - by fuzzygoat
I am just looking at setting up a simple viewController programatically, I have a ViewController.xib file that I have set the background color to RED in interface builder. I have also added the following to my AppDelegate.m @implementation syntax_MapViewAppDelegate @synthesize window; -(BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { viewController = [[MapViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } -(void)dealloc { [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end When I run the code it does what I expect apart from the white bar at the bottom of the screen, can anyone give me any pointers in how to remove this? I have a feeling I might need to position the view within the window, but I am not sure how? cheers Gary

  • flex open source sdk compile error of samples on linux

    - by Oki
I downloaded lastest version of flex open source sdk. I wanted to compile some samples specifically explorer example. At first build.sh gave me weird error and with little search I nailed it by converting all bash files and mxml files with dos2unix. It is file type error. However now I get this error ./build.sh Error: Could not resolve <mx:Script> to a component implementation. <mx:Script> When I execute build.sh, some of the samples give this weird error. I searched this error on the net, their solution is to add -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US as jre parameters. However, this solution is for Turkish Windows XP. My system is Pardus, yet another linux distribution.

  • Algorithm to split an array into N groups based on item index (should be something simple)

    - by serg
I feel that it should be something very simple and obvious but just stuck on this for the last half an hour and can't move on. All I need is to split an array of elements into N groups based on element index. For example we have an array of 30 elements [e1,e2,...e30], that has to be divided into N=3 groups like this: group1: [e1, ..., e10] group2: [e11, ..., e20] group3: [e21, ..., e30] I came up with nasty mess like this for N=3 (pseudo language, I left multiplication on 0 and 1 just for clarification): for(i=0;i<array_size;i++) { if(i>=0*(array_size/3) && i<1*(array_size/3) { print "group1"; } else if(i>=1*(array_size/3) && i<2*(array_size/3) { print "group2"; } else if(i>=2*(array_size/3) && i<3*(array_size/3) print "group3"; } } But what would be the proper general solution? Thanks.
