• Get subdomain of XML page from XSL

  I am working with a guild hosting site that provides an XML/XSL transformation widget where all I need to do is enter the URL for the XML and XSL and it does the rest. I have written an XSL transform to display a World of Warcraft armory page: Here is an example XML page (view source to see it) of the group I'm trying to help now. So, the user is entering their own XML page url (which has an eu subdomain in this case, but it is not within the XML itself). So when I make links to the character url, I need to add the entire url <a target="_blank" href="http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?{@url}"> <xsl:value-of select="@name"/> </a> But I can't just set the domain to eu since there are multiple regions. Here are the possibilities: us = www, europe = eu, korea = kr, china = cn and taiwan = tw. Here is a snippet of the XML which shows the url parameters: <character achPoints="4275" classId="3" genderId="0" level="80" name="Virtex" raceId="4" rank="2" url="r=Drek%27Thar&amp;cn=Virtex"/> I guess I could just have the user add a small bit of HTML with their region in another part of their page, something like <div id="region">eu</div>, but I'm trying to make this work without any extra coding on their part. • How do I make my ArrayList Thread-Safe? Another approach to problem in Java?

  I have an ArrayList that I want to use to hold RaceCar objects that extend the Thread class as soon as they are finished executing. A class, called Race, handles this ArrayList using a callback method that the RaceCar object calls when it is finished executing. The callback method, addFinisher(RaceCar finisher), adds the RaceCar object to the ArrayList. This is supposed to give the order in which the Threads finish executing. I know that ArrayList isn't synchronized and thus isn't thread-safe. I tried using the Collections.synchronizedCollection(c Collection) method by passing in a new ArrayList and assigning the returned Collection to an ArrayList. • Sharing same vector control between different places

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to implement the following: I have an Items Manager, that has an Item class inside. Item class can store two possible visual representations of it - BitmapImage(bitmap) and UserControl(vector). Then later, in the game, I need to share the same image or vector control between all possible places it takes place. For example, consider 10 trees on the map, and all point to the same vector control. Or in some cases this can be bitmap image source. So, the problem is that BitmapImage source can be easily shared in the application by multiple UIElements. However, when I try to share vector control, it fails, and says Child Element is already a Child element of another control. I want to know how to organize this in the best way. For example replace UserControl with other type of control, or storage, however I need to be sure it supports Storyboard animations inside. • Database design: Calculating the Account Balance

  How do I design the database to calculate the account balance? 1) Currently I calculate the account balance from the transaction table In my transaction table I have "description" and "amount" etc.. I would then add up all "amount" values and that would work out the user's account balance. I showed this to my friend and he said that is not a good solution, when my database grows its going to slow down???? He said I should create separate table to store the calculated account balance. If did this, I will have to maintain two tables, and its risky, the account balance table could go out of sync. Any suggestion? EDIT: OPTION 2: should I add an extra column to my transaction tables "Balance". now I do not need to go through many rows of data to perform my calculation. Example John buys $100 credit, he debt $60, he then adds $200 credit. Amount $100, Balance $100. Amount -$60, Balance $40. Amount $200, Balance $240.

  I'm using WatiN to automate Internet Explorer, and so far it's been great. However, I would really like to be able to change the user agent of IE so the server thinks it's actually Firefox or some other browser.   How would I buffer an IPoint to do an intersection check using IRelationalOperator? I have, for arguments sake: IPoint p1 = xxx; IPoint p2 = yyy; IRelationalOperator rel1 = (IRelationalOperator)p1; if (rel.Intersects (p2)) // Do something But now I want to add a tolerance to my check, so I assume the right way to do that is by either buffering p1 or p2. • Implicit Type Conversions in Reflection

  So I've written a quick bit of code to help quickly convert between business objects and view models. Not to pimp my own blog, but you can find the details here if you're interested or need to know. One issue I've run in to is that I have a custom collection type, ProductCollection, and I need to turn that in to a string[] in on my model. Obviously, since there is no default implicit cast, I'm getting an exception in my contract converter. So, I thought I would write the next little bit of code and that should solve the problem: public static implicit operator string[](ProductCollection collection) { var list = new List<string>(); foreach (var product in collection) { if (product.Id == null) { list.Add(null); } else { list.Add(product.Id.ToString()); } } return list.ToArray(); } However, it still fails with the same cast exception. I'm wondering if it has something to do with being in reflection? If so, is there anything that I can do here?? I'm open to architectural solutions, too!

  Let say I have a class like this: public sealed class Foo { public void Bar { // Do Bar Stuff } } And I want to extend it to add something beyond what an extension method could do....My only option is composition: public class SuperFoo { private Foo _internalFoo; public SuperFoo() { _internalFoo = new Foo(); } public void Bar() { _internalFoo.Bar(); } public void Baz() { // Do Baz Stuff } } While this works, it is a lot of work...however I still run into a problem: public void AcceptsAFoo(Foo a) I can pass in a Foo here, but not a super Foo, because C# has no idea that SuperFoo truly does qualify in the Liskov Substitution sense...This means that my extended class via composition is of very limited use. So, the only way to fix it is to hope that the original API designers left an interface laying around: public interface IFoo { public Bar(); } public sealed class Foo : IFoo { // etc } Now, I can implement IFoo on SuperFoo (Which since SuperFoo already implements Foo, is just a matter of changing the signature). public class SuperFoo : IFoo And in the perfect world, the methods that consume Foo would consume IFoo's: public void AcceptsAFoo(IFoo a) Now, C# understands the relationship between SuperFoo and Foo due to the common interface and all is well. The big problem is that .NET seals lots of classes that would occasionally be nice to extend, and they don't usually implement a common interface, so API methods that take a Foo would not accept a SuperFoo and you can't add an overload. So, for all the composition fans out there....How do you get around this limitation? The only thing I can think of is to expose the internal Foo publicly, so that you can pass it on occasion, but that seems messy.

Like..there can be no two Pages with the same Title. What check do I need to add in my Insert/Update Stored Procedure ? How do I make sure duplicates are never added. On my aspx Page I have a drop down list control that is bound to DataSource that returns Table 2(Title Table) and I have a text box in which user types Page's content to be stored. When I update, like lets say I have a row in my Table 1 as shown above with PageID=1. Now when I am updating this row, like I didn't change the Title from the drop down and only changed Content in the text box, its not updating the record ..and when Stored procedure's Update Query does not execute it displays a Label that says "Page with this title exists already." So whenever I am updating an existing record that label is displayed on screen.How do I change that IF condition in my Update Stored procedure?? EDIT:- @gbn :: Will that IF condition work in case of update? I mean lets say I am updating the Page with TitleID=1, I changed its content, then when I update, it's gonna execute that IF condition and it still won't update coz TitleID=1 already exits!It will only update if TitleID=1 is not there in Table1. Isn't it? Guess I am getting confused. Please answer.Thanks.

• CSS style refresh in IE after dynamic removal of style link

  Hi! I've got a problem with the dynamic style manipulation in IE7 (IE8 is fine). Using javascript I need to add and remove the < link / node with the definition of css file. Adding and removing the node as a child of < head / works fine under Firefox. Unfortunately, after removing it in the IE, although The tag is removed properly, the page style does not refresh. In the example below a simple css (makes background green) is appended and removed. I have tried to use the FocusManager and the Initialized event in the ItemView but these are only called for the first time I add a new tab. <UserControl x:Class="ItemView" ... • Does The Clear Method On A Collection Release The Event Subscriptions?

  I have a collection private ObservableCollection<Contact> _contacts; In the constructor of my class I create it _contacts = new ObservableCollection<Contact>(); I have methods to add and remove items from my collection. I want to track changes to the entities in my collection which implement the IPropertyChanged interface so I subscribe to their PropertyChanged event. public void AddContact(Contact contact) { ((INotifyPropertyChanged)contact).PropertyChanged += new PropertyChangedEventHandler(Contact_PropertyChanged); _contacts.Add(contact); } public void AddContact(int index, Contact contact) { ((INotifyPropertyChanged)contact).PropertyChanged += new PropertyChangedEventHandler(Contact_PropertyChanged); _contacts.Insert(index, contact); } When I remove an entity from the collection, I unsubscribe from the PropertyChanged event. I am told this is to allow the entity to be garbage collected and not create memory issues. public void RemoveContact(Contact contact) { ((INotifyPropertyChanged)contact).PropertyChanged -= Contact_PropertyChanged; _contacts.Remove(contact); } So, I hope this is all good. Now, I need to clear the collection in one of my methods. My first thought would be to call _contacts.Clear(). Then I got to wondering if this releases those event subscriptions? Would I need to create my own clear method? Something like this: public void ClearContacts() { foreach(Contact contact in _contacts) { this.RemoveContact(contact); } } I am hoping one of the .NET C# experts here could clear this up for me or tell me what I am doing wrong.

I am trying with this piece of code: TreeNode tn = new TreeNode(); TreeNode tnSub = new TreeNode(); foreach (DataRow dt in tblTreeView.Rows) { tn.Text = dt[0].ToString(); tn.Value = dt[0].ToString(); tnSub.Text = dt[1].ToString(); tnSub.NavigateUrl = "../downloading.aspx?file=" + dt[1].ToString() +"&user=" + userID; tn.ChildNodes.Add(tnSub); tvDocuments.Nodes.Add(tn); } I am getting the treeview populated nicely for the 1st category and the document under that category, but I can't get it to work when I want to show more documents under that category, or even more complicate to show new category beneath the 1st one with documents from that category.   The included JavaScript snippet is supposed to do the following: As the user clicks on the map, initialize headMarker and draw a circle (polygon) around it As the user clicks inside the circle, initialize tailMarker and draw the path between these two markers 1 is happening as expected. But as the user clicks inside the circle, in the function(overlay,point), overlay is non-null while point is null. Because of this, the code fails to initialize tailMarker. Can someone tell me a way out. When a user clicks on add button, a new row (cell) with five column (text boxe) is added in a table view controller with null values. • ASP.NET - Webservice not being called from javascript

  Ok I'm stumped on this one. I've got a ASMX web service up and running. I can browse to it (~/Webservice.asmx) and see the .NET generated page and test it out.. and it works fine. I've got a page with a Script Manager with the webservice registered... and i can call it in javascript (Webservice.Method(...)) just fine. However, I want to use this Webservice as part of a jQuery Autocomplete box. So I have use the url...? and the Webservice is never being called. Here's the code. • Software Company Library

  Hi. A few days ago i had the idea to create a company library since my company has no training and many developers still develop as they did when they learned it 5 years ago. My hope is that they can lend books, read them and hopefully learn something from them (for example: object oriented programming or unit testing, which noone here knows how to use). After asking around most agreed that it was a good idea, so i brought my books, made a simple printed sheet with "Book A belongs to B" and "Developer A took the Book on dd.mm.yyyy" to get it started. Now i want to get some ideas for Books that i could add to the shelf (sadly from my own money since 100€/month for training is too much money for this multi-million euro company). We develop mostly PHP & MySQL so books specific to this topic would be preferred but i think if people learn other languages they might get ideas on how to develop better with the current language so other books are ok, too. Which books would you recommend? PS: Personally i'd like to add some Project Management books, too, as it's a topic i'm interested in, eventhough i'm just a junior developer (We've got Peopleware already, great book btw).

  I have a situation where I have 3 tables: StockItem, Office and StockItemPrice. The price for each StockItem can be different for each Office. StockItem( ID Name ) Office( ID Name ) StockItemPrice( ID StockItemID OfficeID Price ) I've set up a schema with 2 many-to-one relations to link StockItem and Office. So in my StockItem domain object I have a property: IList<StockItemPrice> Prices; which gets loaded with the price of the item for each office. That's working fine. Now I'm trying to get the price of an item for a single office. I have the following Criteria query: NHibernateSession.CreateCriteria(persistentType) .Add(Restrictions.Eq("ID", id)) .CreateAlias("Prices", "StockItemPrice") .Add(Restrictions.Eq("StockItemPrice.Office", office)) .UniqueResult<StockItem>(); This appears to work fine as the SQL it generates is what I qould expect. However, I dont know if it populates StockItem.Prices with a single object correctly as as soon as I reference that property NHibernate performs a lazy load of all the office's prices. Also, even if it does work, it feels really crufty having to access the price by using: mystockitem.Prices[0].Price What I would really like is to have a Price field on the StockItem object and have the price of the item put into that field by NHibernate. I've tried adding .CreateCriteria("Price", "StockItemPrice.Price") and the same with CreateAlias, but I get the error NHibernate.QueryException : could not resolve property: Price of: StockItem which makes sense I guess as Price isn't a mapped property. How would I adjust the query to make this possible?

• How do you use FastInfoset with JAXWS?

  I've got code that looks like it should be correct based on what I can find, but the spewed output doesn't indicate that it's using FastInfoset. My understanding is the Accept should indicate it can accept Fastinfoset and the response would actually use it, meaning it's not text/xml as the response type. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've scoured with Google and I'm having a hard time finding much detail on how to use FastInfoset at all.
