  • varnish demon error: libvarnish.so.1 not found

    In order to try out varnish for an upcoming project I installed it on an ubuntu server using this tutorial: http://varnish-cache.org/wiki/InstallationOnUbuntuDapper The build process worked without any errors, but I cant start the varnish demon. I always get the error message varnishd: error while loading shared libraries: libvarnish.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory But /usr/local/lib/libvarnish.so.1 clearly exists. How can I tell varnish to look in that directory and load the library?

    A friend of mine had an Acer laptop. It has Vista Home Basic. I can't get system properties open. Msconfig does not run. Also, exe filetype is asking me what program to run it with. How can I fix that? I'm running AVG now. Assuming nothing shows up, what are fixes to the above mentioned issues?

    FOR RE-OPENING: I don’t see how it is “too localized”. Plenty of people like to run their own web-apps instead of relying on third-party services. If that were not true, then WordPress, phpBB, Apache, PHP, etc. would not be available for general use. As for “Internet audience at large”, I must have missed the part where it was a rule that you are only allowed to ask for help for things that applies to everyone else too; I thought you were allowed to ask for help. Besides, if someone knows of software that fulfills the question, then it is relevant to whomever would download it, and so is not only applicable to an “extraordinarily narrow situation”. (Besides, the reason that I was asking was because Google had announced that it was discontinuing FTP support for Blogger and so many people were affected—read NOT TOO LOCALIZED—and were trying to find alternatives.) Hi, I am trying to find software (for Windows, PHP, MySQL/SQLite/flat, free, open-source) to localize all of my software and service so that I can keep my files and host when needed from my own system instead of some remote computer. I’ve already selected things like web, FTP, and db servers. I’ve chosen forum and wiki software, as well as an RCS system. At this point, all I’m still looking for—actually, I still need to choose bug-tracking software, but besides that—is blogging software. I still use Blogger and am trying to find something that I can use to import my Blogger stuff and store on (and publish to) my home system. I have read of various blogging software including WordPress, MovableType, and TextPattern. The problem is that I am trying to find something that is like Blogger (which from what I can tell is not available on Google Code as open-source). What I specifically need is multiple-blog support. That is, multiple blogs ala the Blogger Dashboard, not multiple user accounts (although that is important as well). The closest thing that I have been able to find is using Wordpress categories to simulate multiple blogs, but that’s not really what I want. I want software that I can run locally that has a multi-blog dashboard like Blogger. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

  • Image thumbnails flashes and then disappears in Windows Vista

    I have Windows Vista installed on my machine and I am facing this really annoying problem. Whenever I open a folder having images, image thumbnails appear for an instant and they are replaced by standard file icon. Argh... Points to note: Setting "Always show icon, never thumbnail" is unchecked Running Windows Aero theme (with transparency support) Have 4GB of RAM on my machine so memory is not a problem Please can you suggest a solution?

  • TrueCrypt drive letter not available

    With c# or a batch file I mount a trueCrypt volume located at A:\volumeTrueCrypt.tc With c# I do: static void Main(string[] args) { var p = Process.Start( fileName:@"C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe", arguments:@"/v a:\volumetruecrypt.tc /lw /a /p truecrypt" ); p.WaitForExit(); } the alternative is to run the command on the command line as: C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /lw /a /p truecrypt Either way I get the error: Why do I get that error? I was able to run that command the first time. The moment I dismounted the volume and tryied to mount it again I got that error. I know that drive letter W is available because it shows as an available letter on true crypt if I where to open it manually: If I where then click on the button mount and then type the password truecrypt (truecrypt is the password) then it will successfully mount on drive w. Why I am not able to mount it from the command line!? If I change the drive letter on the command line it works. I want to use the drive W though. In other words executing "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /lz /a /p truecrypt will successfully mount that volume on drive z but I do not want to mount it on drive z I want to mount it on drive w. The first time I ran the batch it ran fine. Also if I restart my computer I believe it should work. More info on how to use trueCrypt through the command line can be found at: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=command-line-usage Edit I was also investivating when does this error occures. In order to generate this error you need to follow this steps. 1) execute the command: (note the /q argument at the end for quiet) "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /ln /a /p truecrypt /q "C...TrueCrypt.exe" = location where trueCrypt is located /v "path" = location where volume is located /n = drive letter n /p truecrypt = password is "trueCrypt" /q = execute in quiet mode. do not show window note I am mounting to drive letter n 2) now volume should be mounted. 3) Open trueCrypt and manually dismount that volume (without using command line) 4) Attempt to run the same command line (without the /q so you see the error) "C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /v "a:\volumetruecrypt.tc" /ln /a /p truecrypt 5) an error should show up So the problem ocures when I manually dismount the volume. If I dismount it from the command line I get no errors. But I think this is a bug from trueCrypt

  • Importing tab based outline txt file into Word outline

    Given a text file containing and outline with tabs to indent each level, I would like to import this into a Word 2007 document so that the each indentation level is converted to a H1, H2, etc heading level. I tried copy pasting the text into the outline view and opening the text file via File, Open. Both did not give the expected result.     Ok, so at work I use Ubuntu and its create for copying a files from one folder to another folder without having two finder windows open. What I would like is to have that function on my mac and I am wondering if anyone knows how to do this. I understand Ubuntu is Linux and Mac well its from Linux has all the features of Linux but is a mac. The feature may not be there but if it is, it would help me alot.   • Site crawler/spider that tosses results into mysql

    It's been suggested that we use mysql for our site's search as it'd be running on the same server that hosts our web server (nginx) and our db (mysql). Since not all of our pages are created from the database, it's been suggested that we have a crawler that can crawl the site, and toss the page url and data into mysql and have sphinx index on that. Does anyone know of an open source spider that has a mysql storing option out of the box. Thanks.

  • How to restore files from an external drive done with Norton Ghost

    Our office XP computer crashed this afternoon. I know that we had Norton Ghost doing regular backups on an external hard drive. My question is how do you restore from that backup? PS. When I plug in the external drive into my own Windows 7 machine it has two folders: - 9c590f17be2ef53d13bb00be2a - Norton Backups I can't open the first one (it says I don't have permissions) but the second one contains a bunch of files with the .v2i extension. Any help would be appreciated?

Here is a sample Java program I have written for testing : import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class EatMem { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException, InterruptedException { System.out.println("Starting up..."); System.out.println("Allocating 128 MB of Memory"); List<byte[]> list = new LinkedList<byte[]>(); list.add(new byte[134217728]); //128 MB System.out.println("Done...."); } } By default, my ulimit settings are (output of ulimit -a) : core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 31398 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 1024 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 31398 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited file locks (-x) unlimited When I execute my java program (java EatMem), it executes without any problems. Now I try to limit max memory available to any program launched in the current shell to 512MB by launching the following command : ulimit -v 524288 ulimit -a output shows the limit to be set correctly (I suppose): core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited scheduling priority (-e) 0 file size (blocks, -f) unlimited pending signals (-i) 31398 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64 max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 1024 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200 real-time priority (-r) 0 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 31398 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) 524288 file locks (-x) unlimited If I now try to execute my java program, it gives me the following error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. Ideally it should not happen as my Java program is only taking around 128MB of memory which is well within my specified ulimit parameters. If I change the arguments to my Java program as below: java -Xmx256m EatMem The program again works fine. While trying to give more memory than limited by ulimit like : java -Xmx800m EatMem results in expected error. Why the program fails to execute in the first case after setting ulimit ? I have tried the above test on Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.0.4 with Java 1.6 and Java 7

  • Can thunderbird with -no-remote launch firefox without it?

    We have two thunderbird profiles, and we launch thunderbird using -no-remote as follows: thunderbird -no-remote -P Profile1 and thunderbird -no-remote -P Profile2 unfortunately, this means that if either of us click on a link in an email, and firefox is already running, we get a warning message telling us that firefox is already running, rather than having it open the link. Is it possible for thunderbird to use firefox's remote, even though it has been launched with -no-remote? (if it makes a difference, this is on Xubuntu Karmic)

    Will cooler that is designed to LGA775 CPUs install on LGA1156 CPU or are they mechanically incompatible? I'm building my first 1U server and surprise-surprise - Intel stock cooler doesn't fit (unless I'm willing to keep the case open). Places that I prefer to buy stuff from are currently out of stock on 1U 1156 heatsinks so I'm wondering if LGA775 would do the trick.

    Alt-Tab or Command-Tab can sometimes be slow, especially when you have many windows open and you frequently switch to only a few of those windows. How do you work around this problem -- any tool to switch to desired windows (most frequently accessed) directly, other than tapping the Alt-Tab combination multiple times? Note: This should work on Windows 7, Linux and Mac. Update: Please post your keyboard-shortcut solutions (using the mouse cannot be any faster - especially when you were touch-typing/writing-code before switching to a window).
