New mainboard with 890GX chipset disables lightdm, even when using old graphics card instead of onboard graphics, startx works (Xubuntu 12.04)

I am trying to migrate an installed Xubuntu 12.04 to a new mainbaord with 890GX chipset. The Chipset has a built-in Radeon HD 4290 graphics. The system boots, but X won't start. The most suspicious message in Xorg.0.log is "ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log". When searching for this message, I found some answers like "remove your xorg.conf" (but there is none on my system). Or bug reports for fglrx (but that's not installed on my system). Or NVidia-related questions ... Interestingly, "startx" succeeds in opening a basic XFCE session. Then, I tried to disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS setup and use the old PCIe graphics card (Radeon HD 5450). No change. I don't think I can just blacklist a module, because the graphics card and the onboard graphics are covered by the same module. At the moment, use the free radeon drivers, not the restricted fglrx driver. If possible, I would like to stay on the free driver for two reasons: The fglrx driver from the ubuntu packages fails to build the kernel module. In past, I had bad experiences with the fglrx driver and changing screen config with RandR. When I connect the harddisk and the graphics card to my old mainboard, everything works again. This means, I have not screwed up my system configuration wile installing and removing the fglrx drivers. When I ordered this mainboard, I thought the 890GX is old enough to be supported and if not, I could still use my graphics card as backup solution. But without even the backup soluton, I'm screwed ... Any ideas ? Thanks and Regards, Kubuntu-Man (now switched to Xubuntu)

Run SSH trough a proxy

I have a question. How can i run SSH trough a proxy or a SSH Tunneling Protocol? For example i have a computer(Ubuntu) with ip eg. 123.123.123.123 and i want to connect to my server trough a proxy eg. 111.111.111.111 so i can see in lastlog that the last authentication was made from 123.123.123.123 . I need this because i cannot access a certain server at work only with an specified range IP. What i tried so far was http://daniel.haxx.se/docs/sshproxy.html where i used ssh -D 1 [email protected] -p 443 where i had 127.0.0.1 forwarded to a SSH Tunneling Protocol http://www.nixtutor.com/linux/installing-and-configuring-an-ssh-server/ (i configurated listening on port 443 but no result, still no connection (denied) ...) This question may sound simple, but i can't figure it out, can you please help me? Thanks.

A little context: I need to install a wine application in 30 computers, but wine require X11, there is nobody loged there, so wine does not work properly. Recover snap server data

Hi I have a snap server 110 the machine powers on ok and the healthcheck passes but unable to connect no responce on the assigned ip or any ability to reach the device via the snap server manager. Believe the device is powering on but not loading the OS. Tried pulling the disk running and hooking up to a windows PC via USB, and using disk internals linux reader I am unable to access two of the partitions. ( one of which is the large data partition). There are three partitions on the the drice only one is accessible via Linux reader. I am looking to recover the data of the drive can anyone suggest a DIY option please?

Server was unable to process request.

I have a vb.net web application that talks to a web service. I get the following error if I try to connect to the web service. System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. The strange thing is it is working fine on one of the set of servers and on another set of servers, we get this error. The only notable difference between the servers is in the authentication setting in IIS. The server where the it works fine we have the ASP.Net Impersonation disabled, but on the other server I get an error the moment I disable the ASP.Net Impersonation.

MySQL max_user_connections

We're releasing a site in a couple of weeks that has been developed on a local machine but now when were testing on dev server we get MySQL error 'max_user_connections'. We have talked to the host company (biggest in sweden) and they say that we don't close our connections properly. But the thing is that we user the EXACT same code on another host where it works. And I also added echo "closed"; in the database_close function so that now in the very bottom of very page there is "closed". To me this means that we do close the connection, anyone got any idea of what could be wrong? We connect through the PHP PDO function and closes it by setting it to 'null', all according to the manual.

Laptop HDD not mounting.

I have a laptop with broken (shorted out) motherboard and a 640 GB HDD. I want to recover my data from the hard disk. Every time I connect the hard disk using an external casing, it is being detected in the disk management service but not visible in my computer, nor accessible through command prompt. The Hard Disk is functioning as I can feel the hard disk rotor working properly when connected using the casing. Also the LED on the hard disk is blinking, the data is there but i am unable to access the data. Someone please suggest me ways of using the hard-disk as a slave disk using casing.

All created VPNs result in Error 720

I have a few different VPNs I need to connect to. I'm using windows 8 and standard ptpp VPN. Every VPN I have created though results in the same error: Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established You might need to change the network settings for this connection The VPN works in Windows 7 and XP. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my new laptop or if its something with Windows 8 itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if there is any extra info I can provide please let me know. Edit: I've tried with virus scanner turned off and windows firewall turned off as well and I still receive the same error message.

mongodb segmentation fault(11) macosx

I have problem, i cant figure out, how to fix.. So i am on MacOSX machine, running php 5.3.15 version, using mongo 1.3.1 version. When i try to execute php script, in which i try to connect to remote mongodb server, I get segmentation fault(11).. I installed php driver with sudo pecl install mongo I have seen, that this problem is quite popular, but havent found real solution yet.. I dont know if I am asking this question in correct stack site.. If you need anything else, just ask.

NO USB devices show in windows 8.1 device manager

Whatever I plug into my USB ports will get power and will charge but will not connect to the computer. I have restarted the computer several times, I re-installed the chipset drivers and still even a USB HDD will not show up under the device manager, not even as an unknown device. I believe this happened because I switched android adb to listen on tcpip rather than USB as this is when the USB ports stopped working. I have set it back to USB but that hasn't seemed to correct the issue. It seems to me that ADB has shut off detection of devices through USB and I am out of ideas and can't find anything useful online. I would prefer not to have to reinstall windows unless I really have to but it is looking like that is exactly what I am going to have to do. I am using windows 8.1. Thanks

Move database from SQL 7 to 2005 / 2008

I have several pretty large databases located in a SQL Server 7 box. Whats the best way to get them into SQL Server 2008? As far as I know, there were changes to the underlying file structures so I am not sure that a simple detach/attach would work. When I tried attaching from 2008 it complained strongly. "Version no longer supported" etc etc. What options do I have? Are there any tools on the market that can connect to both 7 and 2008 and then move the schema and data?

RDC stops working after a period of time.

I have a workstation with RDC configured for the employee. When they leave at the end of their day they lock the pc (windows key + l). They go home connect to our VPN and log back in. Everything works fine. The following morning they will attempt to log in before they return to the office. The computer does not respond to the RDC request. I've found that it becomes completely inactive to any ICMP requests. Once the user reboots the computer everything works fine again. I'm going to turn off RDC, reboot, turn RDC back on and reboot again to see if it fixes the problem. Until then does anyone have any other ideas?

What are my options for a secure External File Share in Server 2008 R2?

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine installed on a home network with a number of files that need to be shared in a few different scenarios. I would like for all three scenarios to have a solution with some sort of encyption to protect the data during transfer. Scenario 1: I need to access files from my laptop (Mac OSX) or another computer outside of the network. This option seems like the easy one to answer in that I could use LogMeIn, the windows VPN, etc. to create such a connection. Scenario 2: I need to provide access to another user with minimal installation / configuration on his or her end. This makes me think of the new FTP 7.5 provided with Server 2008 R2 but i'm not sure of the details: Does it support SSH or some other form of encryption?, can an OSX user connect?, etc. My question here is what are my options? I really just don't know where to get started...

Printer on different network(IP range), can i print to it?

Heres my situation, client PC is on the same network as the printer to start with: 192.168.1.X Thats fine and printing is fine, however our clients are required to connect to the VPN using the installed cisco client - this creates a virtual adapter and now the PC is connected to a 10.0.0.X IP range and can no longer see the printer, thus my problem! If I do an IPCONFIG/ALL the PC still has the 192.168.1.X address but it I can't ping anything on it. Is it possible to use both IP ranges at the same time?

MaxConnections: is it a Client or Request count?

IIS allows me to set a MaxConnections value in the configuration. What is unclear (to me anyway) is what that number means exactly, and I can't find a definitive documented answer. Is this the maximum number of clients that connect simultaneously, or is the maximum number of requests that can be running concurrently? For example, if I have a page that loads up some images, CSS files, scripts and content, each of those could reasonably be on a separate request socket with a modern browser. Is each of those sockets counted against the "max", or is it counted only as 1 since they are all requests from the same client address?

windows7 cant get to internet( cable connection)

I'm using a window 7 with wireless & cable equipments to connect to internet, it's been fine for moths. But Three days ago, the local connection ran out of control and i can no longer use the cable to get access to internet. But fortunately the wireless equipment still works. I reinstalled the driver, took off/inserted in the cable, the computer still didn't work. And every time I let the computer diagnose itself, it told me that :"Default gateway is not valid"(or something else, forgive my terrible english XD). If anyone could give any advice, i will be very appreciated. And I'm in california, but i don't know the gateway of this area.

SMO ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout setting is ignored

I am successfully using Powershell with SMO to backup most databases. However, I have several large databases in which I receive a "timeout" error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired". The timout consistently occurs at 10 minutes. I have tried setting ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout to 0, 6000, and to [System.Int32]::MaxValue. The setting made no difference. I have found a number of Google references which indicate setting it to 0 makes it unlimited. No matter what I try, the timeouts consistently occur at 10 minutes. I even set Remote Query Timeout on the server to 0 (via Studio Manager) to no avail. Below is my SMO connection where I set the time out and the actual backup function. Further below is the output from my script. UPDATE Interestingly enough, I wrote the backup function in C# using VS 2008 and the timeout override does work within that environment. I am in the process of incorporating that C# process into my Powershell Script until I can find out why the timeout override does not work with just Powershell. LinkedIn API returns 'Unauthorized' response (PHP OAuth)

I've been struggling with this one for a few days now. I've got a test app set up to connect to LinkedIn via OAuth. I want to be able to update a user's status, but at the moment I'm unable to interact with LinkedIn's API at all. Apache2 VirtualHost Configuration with SSL

We have two servers and a firewall computer. On the Server#1 there is an Apache 2.2 web server and it forwards the incoming traffic to the appropriate ports, to our subdomains by its virtual host configuration (Apache, Tomcat, IIS, Server#2 and so on). We recently bought an SSL certificate to protect one of our subdomain. I successfully installed and configured the certificate into the Apache and it works flawlessly within our local network. Our Kerio Winroute Firewall is configured to permit https traffic and it is translated to Server#1. But all of our subdomains are unavailable from outside (http & https too). Web browser shows "Failed to connect" message. Need help with setting up comet code

Does anyone know off a way or maybe think its possible to connect Node.js with Nginx http push module to maintain a persistent connection between client and browser. I am new to comet so just don't understand the publishing etc maybe someone can help me with this. What i have set up so far is the following. When there is a message it will fire updateFeed. Pretty basic and understandable IMO. Pretty basic also. This part is not so hard to understand, and is well documented over the internet. Most of the time there is a ruby or a php file behind this that does the broadcasting. My idea is to have node.js broadcasting /broadcast/pub. I think this will let me have persistent streaming data from the server to the client without breaking the connection. I tried the long-polling approach with looping the request but I think this will be more efficient. Or is this not going to work. Node.js file Now to create the Node.js i'm lost. First off all I don't know how to have node.js to work in this way. The setup I used for long polling is as follows: var sys = require('sys'), http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); res.write(new Date()); res.close(); seTimeout('',1000); }).listen(8000); This listens to port 8000 and just writes on the response variable. no namenode error in pseudo-mode

I'm new to hadoop and is in learning phase. As per Hadoop Definitve guide, i have set up my hadoop in pseudo distributed mode and everything was working fine. I was even able to execute all the examples from chapter 3 yesterday. Today, when i rebooted my unix and tried to run start-dfs.sh and then tried http://localhost/50070....it is showing error and when i try to stop dfs (stop-dfs.sh) it says no namenode to stop. I have been googling the issue but no result. Also, when i format my namenode again...everything starts working fine and i'm able to connect to the localhost/50070 and even replicate files and directories in hdfs but as soon as i restart my linux and try to connect to hdfs the same problem comes up.
