  • PowerShell PowerPack Download

    I read Jeffery Hicks’ article in this month’s Redmond Magazine on a new add-in for Windows PowerShell 2.0. It’s called the PowerShell Pack and it has a some great new features that I plan to put into place on my production systems as soon as I finished learning and testing them. You can download the pack here if you have PowerShell 2.0. I’m having a lot of fun with it, and I’ll blog about what I’m learning here in the near future, but you should check it out. The only issue I have with it right now is that you have to load a module and then use get-help to find out what it does, because I haven’t found a lot of other documentation so far. The most interesting modules for me are the ones that can run a command elevated (in PSUserTools), the task scheduling commands (in TaskScheduler) and the file system checks and tools (in FileSystem). There’s also a way to create simple Graphical User Interface panels (in ). I plan to string all these together to install a management set of tools on my SQL Server Express Instances, giving the user “task buttons” to backup or restore a database, add or delete users and so on. Yes, I’ll be careful, and yes, I’ll make sure the user is allowed to do that. For now, I’m testing the download, but I thought I would share what I’m up to. Keep in mind you will need the SMO libraries – which can be installed separately or by installing the Client Tools from the SQL Server install media. You could search for errors, store a result as a variable, or act on the returned values in some other way.   • Unity DontDestroyOnLoad causing scenes to stay open

    Here is the script which will give you numbers of non clustered indexes on any table in entire database. I recently went to meet my friend in his office and he introduced me to his colleague in office as someone who is an expert in SQL Server Indexing. I politely said I am yet learning about Indexing and have a long way to go. My friend’s colleague right away said – he had a suggestion for me with related to Index. According to him he was looking for a script which will count all the non clustered on all the tables in the database and he was not able to find that on SQLAuthority.com. I was a bit surprised as I really do not remember all the details about what I have written so far. I quickly pull up my phone and tried to look for the script on my custom search engine and he was correct. I never wrote a script which will count all the non clustered indexes on tables in the whole database. Excessive indexing is not recommended in general. If you have too many indexes it will definitely negatively affect your performance. The above query will quickly give you details of numbers of indexes on tables on your entire database. You can quickly glance and use the numbers as reference. Please note that the number of the index is not a indication of bad indexes. There is a lot of wisdom I can write here but that is not the scope of this blog post. There are many different rules with Indexes and many different scenarios. For example – a table which is heap (no clustered index) is often not recommended on OLTP workload (here is the blog post to identify them), drop unused indexes with careful observation (here is the script for it), identify missing indexes and after careful testing add them (here is the script for it). Even though I have given few links here it is just the tip of the iceberg. If you follow only above four advices your ship may still sink.   • Generate DROP statements for all extended properties

    This evening I have been attempting to migrate an existing on-premise database to SQL Azure using the wizard that is built-in to SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). When I did so I received the following error: The following objects are not supported = [MS_Description] = Extended Property Evidently databases containing extended properties can not be migrated using this particular wizard so I set about removing all of the extended properties – unfortunately there were over a thousand of them so I needed a better way than simply deleting each and every one of them manually. I found a couple of resources online that went some way toward this: Drop all extended properties in a MSSQL database by Angelo Hongens Modifying and deleting extended properties by Adam Aspin Unfortunately neither provided a script that exactly suited my needs. Angelo’s covered extended properties on tables and columns however I had other objects that had extended properties on them. Adam’s looked more complete but when I ran it I got an error: Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Line 78 Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "Latin1_General_100_CS_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the equal to operation. So, both great resources but I wasn’t able to use either on their own to get rid of all of my extended properties. Hence, I combined the excellent work that Angelo and Adam had provided in order to manufacture my own script which did successfully manage to generate calls to sp_dropextendedproperty for all of my extended properties. If you think you might be able to make use of such a script then feel free to download it from https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=550f681dad532637&resid=550F681DAD532637!16707&parid=550F681DAD532637!16706&authkey=!APxPIQCatzC7BQ8. This script will remove extended properties on tables, columns, check constraints, default constraints, views, sprocs, foreign keys, primary keys, table triggers, UDF parameters, sproc parameters, databases, schemas, database files and filegroups. If you have any object types with extended properties on them that are not in that list then consult Adam’s aforementioned article – it should prove very useful.     In my presentations for PowerShell I sometimes want to start a process (like a backup) that will take some time. I normally pop up a notification “balloon” at the start, and then do the bulk of the work, and then pop up a balloon at the end to let me know it’s done. You can actually try out this little sample (on a test system, of course) without any other code to see what it does. Then just put the other PowerShell commands in the #Do Some Work part.     Hello, I am trying to understand this simple hashlib code in Python that has been given to me the other day on "Stackoverflow": import hashlib m = hashlib.md5() m.update("Nobody inspects") m.update(" the spammish repetition here") m.digest() '\xbbd\x9c\x83\xdd\x1e\xa5\xc9\xd9\xde\xc9\xa1\x8d\xf0\xff\xe9' m.digest_size 16 m.block_size 64 print m I thought that "print m" would show me the MD5 digest of the phrase: "Nobody inspects the spammish repetition here", but as a result I got this line on my local host: <md5 HASH object @ 01806220> Strange, when I refreshed the page, I got another line: <md5 HASH object @ 018062E0> and every time when I refresh it, I get another value: md5 HASH object @ 017F8AE0 md5 HASH object @ 01806220 md5 HASH object @ 01806360 md5 HASH object @ 01806400 md5 HASH object @ 01806220 Why is it so? I guess, what I have in each line flowing "@" is not really a digest. Then, what is it? And how can I display MD5 digest here in this code? My python version is Python 2.5 and the framework I am currently using is webapp (I have downloaded it together with SDK from "Google App Engine")

    Hello. I stumbled upon this add-on which "Ajaxifies" parts of its target website. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/51789 I have a similar need like this. I want only part of the webpage's DOM to update upon receiving click on a link, since the website has a rather unified page layout. I have no experiences in writing FF add-ons but I did some basic Ajax and DOM before. So I am looking for programming tips on how to implement "Ajaxification" in a GreaseMonkey script, preferably. If it's not possible, making an add-on is also a sound choice which I'm willing to learn. Thanks in advance!

    I am using a fairly straight-forward script to open and parse several xml files that are gzipped. I also need to do the same basic operation with a ZIP file. It seems like it should be simple, but I haven't been able to find what looked like equivalent code anywhere.     I have a perl CGI script that needs to send back some HTML print qq^Content-type: text/html\n\n <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>some title</TITLE> ... ... ... ... ^: Instead of seeing the rendered HTML in the browser, I see the entire HTML along with the tags and the 'content-type' line in plain text.   • D-Day Calendar has wrong dates when importing from google calendar?

    Hi I am using D-Day calendar and I am not sure but I got a weird problem. I basically have this for my code iCalendar iCal = iCalendar.LoadFromStream(file.InputStream); foreach (Event evt in iCal.Events) { DateTime start = evt.DTStart.Date; DateTime end = evt.DTEnd.Date; // loop through it and get values. } Yet when I import a calendar from google calendar the end date is messed up on some of the stuff I am importing. Like for instance I have this Title: should not show When: Sun, March 21(all day). Yet when I import it in. I says the start date is the 21st yet the end date is the 22nd when it should be the 21st. Not sure what is going on. I am not really sure what other info I can give you guys.

    Launching the android SDK manager from the command line gets me this error and others like: Failed to fetch URL http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/addons_list-1.xml, reason: Failure initializing default SSL context I've done plenty of searches and have forced http instead of https, created an androidtool.cfg file and added the line sdkman.force.http=true permisions for all files in ~/.android are rw r r. I'm calling android logged in as the owner of those files. I am not using a proxy and I have no anti virus running. I just installed fedora 16 and am not sure of any firewalls running by default. I suspect a permissions problem somewhere along the line. any ideas?

  • How can I unbind JQZOOM in my JQuery Script?

    Hello, I have this script at the moment, which changes an image when a thumbnail has been changed. I then want JQZOOM to be added to that new image. However, if I put it inside the Onclick event, it gets slower and slower the more times you click on it... I guess because its running multiple instances. Is there anyway to unbind the JQZOOM from something then rebind it to something else?     I don't want to get the basedir -- that appears to contain the build.xml script -- I want the CWD of the call to ant itself. Basically, I want to do this: $ cd /home/chrisr/projects/some_project $ ant -f ../../tools/ant-build-rules/library.xml build-library At this point, I need two things: The path to ant-build-rules in absolute form; this is currently found in the basedir property, so I'm set there. The path of some_project, in absolute form. This is what I don't know how to get. Which property contains this information?

  • How do you implement file drag-and-drop upload in Google Chrome?

    I've found several tutorials online about implementing file drag/drop with Firefox 3.6 (they involve using a FileReader object to get the file binary data). However, I cannot create a FileReader object in Chrome on Windows or Mac. Does anyone know what the API is to read and manipulate data from a drag-and-dropped file in Chrome? If I can get the binary data of the file, I already have the rest of the code to perform the upload. Note: I've also tried using the getAsBinary() function call on the file object of the drag event (event.dataTransfer.file) but I believe that is a Mozilla-specific function and not implemented in Chrome. Also, I'm not interested in a solution using google gears or one that requires a user to select files from a dialog. I'm specifically trying to implement a drag-and-drop file upload.
