  • Do you use another language instead of english ?

    Duplicate Should identifiers and comments be always in English or in the native language of the application and developers? For people who are not native English speakers, which language do you use to declare variables, classes, etc. ? I had to continue a project from a Spanish guy. Everything was written in Spanish. Since this time, I have decided to use English identifiers ( variables, classes, file names) and write comments in french. Everything was in french before that. What are the general recommendations about that practice? Do you use English everywhere knowing that no English people will work on your project ?   • C++ app fails to initialize (0xc0000005), when using C# dll

    Hi, I have a C# DLL, which I call from a native C++ programm. As I use Qt and /clr compiler option did not work I followed this tutorial for a bridge. So I have a VS2008 project (compiled with /clr), which links to the C# DLL and contains the bridge class and the native class, which exposes interfaces to my C++ programm. Another VS2008 project (no .net stuff) calls the native class (statically linked). I had some issues, but now the programm at least compiles. However, if I try to run this programm, I get a (0xc0000005) error on initialization, when I try to use the native class. As this happens on initialization, I don't even see, which DLLs fail to initialize. All DLLs should be in the right place. Any hints? Thank you.

  • DeleteObject method is missing in Entity Framework 4.1

    This is driving me crazy. I am getting error that object doesn't contain definition for DeleteObject. Here is my line of code that produces an error: ctx.Tanks.DeleteObject(Tank); I tried to reference another object from another edmx file that my friend has created and then everything is fine, DeleteObject exists. I don't think I miss any references in my project. And project itself contains edmx file and I used DBContext to create POCOs. Any ideas?

  • ACL tool for audit of Ubuntu production servers

    In my production environment, I have close to 10 Ubuntu 12.04 Servers and I want to get the list of users from them. I am looking for some kind of script or tool (non-gui) to get the same. Yes, I can get the list from /etc/passwd and /etc/groups files but it would be good to have a tool or script to do this due to the following reasons. I have right now 10 systems in Ubuntu and 30 systems in Windows 2003. I am recommending my organization and IT to move all the systems to Ubuntu except the one running MS SQL server We do not have good Ubuntu admins with us and they should not mess up with the system if I give some manual commands I also need to find out date of creation of user, group, password standards like strength, expiry etc Please help me as I want to automate the process and get the list on weekly basis from IT team.   • Where to intercept resolution of controller/view in ASP.Net MVC for customizations?

    I am trying to figure out where the appropriate place is to intercept the resolution of what view + controller is being called in ASP.Net MVC 2. I have a situation where I have a controller and a corresponding set of views. I also have the possibility of a customized version of both the controller and N of the views sitting in the project (or we may use something like Portable Views from the MvcContrib project). If the customized version of the controller or view(s) exists at run time, and the user satisfies certain criteria, I need to call the customized controller and use the appropriate customized view. At design/compile time we don't know what customizations may be in place. My first run at this was by using a custom controller factory that returns a custom controller if it exists. However, this controller is "wired up" to the standard view, and I cannot figure out how to return the customized view if it also exists. To complicate matters, there may be no customized controller but customized views, and visa-versa.

  • windows control library in c sharp

    I have just added a textbox, button, label to validate ID of 12 characters. The library is called check_ID. It works fine. The only problem is i have to access the forecolor of label, backcolor of textbox , forecolor of button as per color scheme of the project. But it seems that none of the properties of the objects in check_ID are available for modification. I have even changed the modifier to public of all objects by repoening the check_ID project. Is there another way to access the properties of these objects that are created using windows control library?. A very big thanks in advance.

    Hi All, I'm trying to get a simple code working, unfortunatly im a python beginner.     I have a RPC service with the following method: public List<Serializable> myMethod(TransactionCall call) {...} But I get a warning when this method is analyzed, and then the rpc call fails Analyzing 'my.project.package.myService' for serializable types Analyzing methods: public abstract java.util.List<java.io.Serializable> myMethod(my.project.package.TransactionCall call) Return type: java.util.List<java.io.Serializable> [...] java.io.Serializable Verifying instantiability (!) Checking all subtypes of Object wich qualify for serialization It seems I can't use Serializable for my List... I could use my own interface instead (something like AsyncDataInterface, wich implements the Serializable interface) but the fact is that my method will return a list custom objects AND basic objects (such as Strings, int....). So my questions are: Is it a standart behaviour? (I can't figure out why I can't use this interface in that case) Does anyone have a workaround for that kind of situation?

  • Ugly LibreOffice font

    I have been experiencing this super annoying bug with fonts in LibreOffice. Please see below screenshot. The spaces between letters are just messed, no matter what font or level of zoom I choose. When I change the zoom level, the spacing is actually changing but still looks very ugly. I have a pretty much default instalation of Ubuntu. I installed a couple of fonts (droid, mscorefonts). I did not change any font settings. Fonts in other applications looks great. When I open the very same text in Google Docs or MS Web Word, it looks perfect. I would appreciate any help concerning this issue. Thanks!

    Hey as a project to improve my programing skills I've begun programing a nice code editor in python to teach myself project management, version control, and gui programming. I was wanting to utilize syntax files made for other programs so I could have a large collection already. I was wondering if there was any kind of universal syntax file format much in the same sense as .odt files. I heard of one once in a forum, it had a website, but I can't remember it now. If not I may just try to use gedit syntax files or geany. thanks

    Hi all My situation is. I have a project planned to be built on ASP.NET MVC 2. And one of the major requirements is SEO optimization. A customer wants to use static-like URLs that end up with .html extension for this project that make URLs more SEO friendly. E.g. "mysite.com/about.html " or "mysite.com/items/getitem/5.html" etc. I wonder is there any benefit from SEO perspective to use .html extension in dynamic URLs? Are Google and other search engines rank work better with such URLs?

    I finally decide to give a source control a try with my existed project (since I will be hiring another new developer soon). I am pretty new to this area and I need recommendation which Source Control should I use to fix my current project. I am developing Web Application which dealing with large number of pictures. Currently, we have over 500,000 pictures (large size picture and several thumbnails). I am using PHP which is not what I concern (since it is just only hundred of script files). My major concern is with the large amount of picture. NOTE: I just install VisualSVN. What do you think about SVN. Do you think it will fix to my requirement?

  • How to see contents of deployed datasource?

    I've inherited a project (without a handy handover) that contains reports published to a Reporting Server (2005). MY SSRS knowledge is 4 years stale, so I need your help. I need to edit one of the published reports, is this possible? I also want to peek into the Data Source on the RS, coz that's probably where I can change stuff. I'll add more info as I get a better understanding of what exactly to ask. EDIT: I found a project for some of the reports, opened up in VS2005 BI. Still, how do see where the Data Source gets its data? It brins back 56 fields but I dont know which tables/stored procs/queries are used to get these.

  • EntityDataSource Unable to configure to Entity Model

    I'm doing my first test asp.net3.5 app using EntityDataSource. I've got the basic project built and the Entity model created and compiled. Database is a local sqlexpress one in app_data directory. When I put the <asp:EntityDataSource /> control on the page and try to configure it, I'm getting the message "The list of named connections could not be loaded because the configuration could not be opened". At this point, everything in the project is "auto-created" by Visual Studio 2008sp1. I confused as I cannot find any information on how to correct from this message.

  • Silverlight PRISM and 'loose' style files

    Hi, We are looking at starting a new Silverlight project using the PRISM framework (to benefit from modules etc) and I am still a little unclear about the best styling approach. What I'd ideally like is to have editable XAML files (maybe even just 1 for the whole project) containing the application's style so that they can be edited to change the look and feel of the application without having to recompile everything. Is this approach something people use? I guess it would need to load the file in at startup and apply the style which I assume wouldn't be a massive overhead. Just wondering what approaches people use Thanks for your time

  • Using different versions of the same assembly.

    I have a project where I simultaneously must use reports built in ActiveReports 2 and ActiveReports 6. Overall, it works ok, but some of the helper assemblies use the same name. For instance, to be able to export to PDF, both versions use an assembly called ActiveReports.PdfExport.dll. The corresponding assemblies are different, of course. Note that I don't access the ActiveReports.PdfExport.dll directly - this is handled by the ActiveReports runtime. I can't find a way to include both of them into the project. Is there a way? Is GAC the answer?

  • Attach 1 or more (non image) files to rails application, with having to install an image-processing

    Hi all, I'm currently learning rails by creating a simple project management app. I've gotten to the point where I would like to be allow a user upload multiple files - pdfs, docs, xls etc. The user only needs to be able to attach one file at a time, but the possibilty to have multiple documents associated with a project is a must. I've spent quite a lot of time researching my options, and it appears the two main plugins are attachment_fu and paperclip. From what I've read though, these appear to concentrate specifically on the upload and subsequent resizing of images, something I couldn't care less about. Is there a simpler way to achieve what I'm trying? Thank you all in advance.

    Hey guys! I'm trying to use ImageMagick Magick++ for a C++ Project in VS2010. I installed the Library from here: klick Then in my Project, I added c:/program files/ImageMagick-6.6.6-Q16/include to the include folders. Then I tried to use Magick++ with this code: #include <Magick++.h> void main(int argc, char ** argv){ InitializeMagick(*argv); } But this does not work! VS2010 returns the following errors: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "__declspec(dllimport) void __cdecl Magick::InitializeMagick(char const *)" (__imp_?InitializeMagick@Magick@@YAXPBD@Z) error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals What am I doing wrong?   • Internet connection crashes while wifi / lan stay connected

    I am connected to a router by wifi or lan. But every few moments (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour) my connection to the internet breaks down. So in one moment I can surf with my firefox and have ping times of 20 ms (wifi) to the google server. And in the next moment I can't open any pages in any browser and the ping shows no new messages first and then "Destination Host Unreachable". This is especially odd as another computer or my smart phone stays connected at the same time to the same network and seems to notice nothing. So I have a problem independend of wifi or lan drivers but with something else. Where should I look for logs that could tell me more information? I can't find some in syslog. Just if I reconnect to the router (wich works for another few moments) there are a lot of informations. But everythin is okay then.

    I have two WIN32 DLL projects in the solution, main.dll should call a function in mgn.dll. mgn.dll has mgn.h header file: #ifdef MGN_EXPORTS #define MGN_API __declspec(dllexport) #else #define MGN_API __declspec(dllimport) #endif extern "C" bool MGN_API AttachMGN(void); and mgn.cpp source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "mgn.h" MGN_API bool AttachMGN(void) { ... } main.dll calls AttachMGN function from one of the source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "..\mgn\mgn.h" bool CreateClient() { return ::AttachMGN(); } mgn.dll compiles successfully. main.dll doesn't show any errors in VS text editor, I can navigate using "Go To Definition" function. However during build I get the error: error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _imp_AttachMGN referenced in function "bool __cdecl CreateClient(void)" (?CreateClient@@AW4XZ) Both DLLs compile into the same folder. DependencyWalker shows the function AttachMGN as exported. Main project has a dependency set to Mgn project, if that matters. I believe that I simply have overlooked something.... Thanks in advance.

  • Frustrated by the VS2012 'Light' and 'Dark' themes?

    Like me you may be have been frustrated by the lack of colour in VS2012. The flat look, reminicent of the early 'Gem' OS is bad enough, but when the only choices are a washed out white look or the deadly all-black look, it's not an easy product to work with.Fortunately MS themselves seem to have quietly taken notice of this, or at least one of their developers has, and a 'Color Theme Editor' extension has been released. This comes with some much better colour schemes (I'm using the blue one, which is fairly close to VS2010) and also allows you to create and edit themes youself.This extension doesn't come up when you search 'Extensions and Updates' but can be found at http://tinyurl.com/6rhkdejWith this, using VS2012 finally becomes a pleasurable experience.
