• Eclipse Ant Builder problem

  I made a custom ant script to automatically create a jar file each time I do a build. This is how it looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <project name="TestProj" basedir="." default="jar"> <property name="dist" value="dist" /> <property name="build" value="bin/test/testproj" /> <target name="jar"> <jar destfile="${dist}/TestProj.jar"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="test.testproj.TestProj" /> </manifest> <fileset dir="${build}" /> </jar> </target> </project> I added it by Right clicking my project properties builders clicked new Ant builder then I specified the location of the above xml file. However, when I run it by doing: java -jar TestProj.jar I get a NoClassDefFoundError test/testproj/TestProj I'm using Eclipse in Ubuntu. TestProj is the name of the class and it's in package test.testproj I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with the manifest and probably the location of the xml file as well but I'm not sure how to fix this. Any ideas?

• Git Svn dcommit error - restart the commit

  Last week, I made a number of changes to my local branch before leaving town for the weekend. This morning I wanted to dcommit all of those changes to the company's Svn repository, but I get a merge conflict in one file: Merge conflict during commit: Your file or directory 'build.properties.sample' is probably out-of-date: The version resource does not correspond to the resource within the transaction. Either the requested version resource is out of date (needs to be updated), or the requested version resource is newer than the transaction root (restart the commit). I'm not sure exactly why I'm getting this, but before attempting to dcommit, I did a git svn rebase. That "overwrote" my commits. To recover from that, I did a git reset --hard HEAD@{1}. Now my working copy seems to be where I expect it to be, but I have no idea how to get past the merge conflict; there's not actually any conflict to resolve that I can find. Any thoughts would be appreciated. EDIT: Just wanted to specify that I am working locally. I have a local branch for the trunk that references svn/trunk (the remote branch). All of my work was done on the local trunk: $ git branch maint-1.0.x master * trunk $ git branch -r svn/maintenance/my-project-1.0.0 svn/trunk Similarly, git log currently shows 10 commits on my local trunk since the last commit with a Svn ID. Hopefully that answers a few questions. Thanks again.

• Error 1009 after gotoAndStop - stage instance never gets added

  I've been through the forums for hours (days?) searching on 1009 errors, but I remain stumped on this. It seems very mysterious and I would LOVE some help if you have any ideas. I have a single .swf that is 7 frames long - each frame represents a different "page" and you can switch pages through a menu widget in the top right corner. The menu widget calls gotoAndPlay( "frame" ). Everything works fine except when I switch from one particular frame to another. Then, during initialization of the new frame (setting some visible properties on various items, in actionscript), I get the dreaded 1009 error on a specific stage instance, a dynamic text instance i_word. Here's what I've tried so far: made sure the actionscript for the new frame starts with a stop() statement before starting initialization - no dice tried changing i_word into a movie_clip instead of dynamic text, made sure it was exported for actionscript - no difference. (I also have 2 other dynamic text instances on the same page that don't seem to cause a problem) added an ENTER_FRAME listener when the new frame is loaded, in case the problem was a timing issue. Put in a big if statement checking if i_word and other instances are not null before proceeding to initialization. It never enters the if, because i_word NEVER gets added. I added trace statements for all instances that are null, and it is the only one. If I remove all references to i_word in my actionscript, everything else is not null, and things go forward. The text for i_word even shows up on the screen in that case. tried renaming i_word - no dice tried deleting the layer i_word was on and adding a new layer - no dice It feels like there is a serious Gremlin in my flash file somewhere. Or maybe I'm missing something obvious. Let me know if you have any ideas...I'd be so grateful. Thank you! Elambda

• Entity Framework does not map 2 columns from a SqlQuery calling a stored procedure

  I'm using Code First and am trying to call a stored procedure and have it map to one of my classes. I created a stored procedure, BOMComponentChild, that returns details of a Component with information of its hierarchy in PartsPath and MyPath. I have a class for the output of this stored procedure. I'm having an issue where everything except the two columns, PartsPath and MyPath, are being mapped correctly with these two properties ending up as Nothing. I searched around and from my understanding the mapping bypasses any Entity Framework name mapping and uses column name to property name. The names are the same and I'm not sure why it is only these two columns. What's the simplest way to get started using json objects on my page? • Android app with library can't find the library.apk

  I'm trying to get the FinchVideo example from the Programming Android book to work. It uses the FinchWelcome library. I've set up FinchWelcome as a Library and in the FinchVideo application I have checked the FinchWelcome library in Properties - Android. When I try to run FinchVideo in the emulator it complains that it cannot find FinchWelcome.apk (output below). I'm building for Android 4.0.3. While Googling for this problem I've found that a lot of people have this problem with Android apps that use libraries. No one seems to have found a solution that works consistently, though. None of the Android books I've seen even talk about how to download libraries. What is the proper way to handle libraries in Android applications? Is this a bug in the Eclipse ADT? Thanks. • Is it possible to cache all the data in a SQL Server CE database using LinqToSql?

  I'm using LinqToSql to query a small, simple SQL Server CE database. I've noticed that any operations involving sub-properties are disappointingly slow. For example, if I have a Customer table that is referenced by an Order table, LinqToSql will automatically create an EntitySet<Order> property. This is a nice convenience, allowing me to do things like Customer.Order.Where(o => o.ProductName = "Stopwatch"), but for some reason, SQL Server CE hangs up pretty bad when I try to do stuff like this. One of my queries, which isn't really that complicated takes 3-4 seconds to complete. I can get the speed up to acceptable, even fast, if I just grab the two tables individually and convert them to List<Customer> and List<Order>, then join then manually with my own query, but this is throwing out a lot of what makes LinqToSql so appealing. So, I'm wondering if I can somehow get the whole database into RAM and just query that way, then occasionally save it. Is this possible? How? If not, is there anything else I can do to boost the performance besides resorting to doing all the joins manually? Note: My database in its initial state is about 250K and I don't expect it to grow to more than 1-2Mb. So, loading the data into RAM certainly wouldn't be a problem from a memory point of view. • Entity Framework Decorator Pattern

  In my line of business we have Products. These products can be modified by a user by adding Modifications to them. Modifications can do things such as alter the price and alter properties of the Product. This, to me, seems to fit the Decorator pattern perfectly. Now, envision a database in which Products exist in one table and Modifications exist in another table and the database is hooked up to my app through the Entity Framework. How would I go about getting the Product objects and the Modification objects to implement the same interface so that I could use them interchangeably? For instance, the kind of things I would like to be able to do: Given a Modification object, call .GetNumThings(), which would then return the number of things in the original object, plus or minus the number of things added by the modification. This question may be stemming from a pretty serious lack of exposure to the nitty-gritty of EF (all of my experience so far has been pretty straight-forward LOB Silverlight apps), and if that's the case, please feel free to tell me to RTFM. • How do I copy files into an existing JAR file with Ant?

  I have a project that needs to access resources within its own JAR file. When I create the JAR file for the project, I would like to copy a directory into that JAR file (I guess the ZIP equivalent would be "adding" the directory to the existing ZIP file). I only want the copy to happen after the JAR has been created (and I obviously don't want the copy to happen if I clean and delete the JAR file). • Synfony2 validation changes invalid integer to 0

  I've added validation to a form and found that in some cases it is losing the invalid data I am feeding it and saving 0s instead. The output at the bottom shows that if I post the latitude as 'zzzzzz' (clearly not a number nor between -90 and 90) the form is declared as valid and saved with the value 0 How can that happen given that I have declared the input must be a number? • Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

  This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS. Or is there some other way involving JS I am overlooking? Any help would be appreciated. Examples of what you suggest would be immensely helpful.

  Hi there, The short version of this question is "Is there a way to get automatic View Object binding for fields defined in a partial class for a Linq-To-SQL generated class?" Apologies if it's been asked before. Example Suppose I have a typical MVC setup with the tables: Posts {PostID, ...} Categories {CategoryID, ...} A post can have more than one category, and a category can identify more than one post. Thus suppose further that I need an extra table: PostCategories {PostID, CategoryID, ...} This handles the many-to-many relationship between posts and categories. As far as I know, there's no way to do this in Linq-to-SQL right now so I have to shoehorn it in by adding a partial Postclass to the project to add that functionality. Something like: public partial class Post { public IEnumerable<Category> Categories{ get { ... } set { ... } } } So here's my question: If a user is accessing my MVC application front-end and begins editing a Post object, they might enter an invalid category. When the server recognizes the invalid input, the usual practice is to return the faulty object to the original view for re-editing along with some error messages. The fields in the edit page are re-populated with the provided values. However I don't know how to get this mechanism to work with the properties I created with the partial class as shown above. Any terminology, links, or tips you can provide would be tremendously helpful!

• How to preserve the state of JavaScript closure?

  I am working on a migration platform to migrate web applications from a device to another. I am extending it to add the support for preserving JavaScript state. My main task is to create a file representing the current state of the executing application, to transmit it to another device and to reload the state in the destination device. The basic solution I adopted is to navigate the window object and to save all its descendant properties using JSON as base format for exportation and extending it to implement some features: preserving object reference, even if cyclic (dojox.json.ref library) support for timers Date non-numericproperties of arrays reference to DOM elements The most important task I need to solve now is exportation of closures. At this moment I didn't know how to implement this feature. I read about the internal EcmaScript property [[scope]] containing the scope chain of a function, a list-like object composed by all the nested activation context of the function. Unfortunately it is not accessible by JavaScript. Anyone know if there is a way to directly access the [[scope]] property? Or another way to preserve the state of a closure?

  I have some code which is a standalone java application comprising of 30+ classes. Most of these inherit from some other base classes. Is that a better practice? B) If yes, how can this be done ? How can I pass the logger around ? C) This is actually being used in the code not as Logger.debug() but getLogger().debug(). What is the impact of this in terms of performance?

• PNG's In Mac on Java cause massive CPU usage

  Hey, I've been having this problem for a while now and I was hoping someone could help. I make small games using Java on Mac OSX 1.6.3 and if I use PNG's as the image format my CPU usage by Java skyrockets to say 50% (on a very small 2D game). However if I use GIF as the format my CPU usage by Java stays constant at 10% which is reasonable. What is causing this problem?? It occurs on every game I develop using PNG's so I always just switch to GIF's. The problem is now that i need to use a PNG for its variable alpha properties rather than just plain transparency. This is not available using GIF's. The problem is present on Java SE 6 and previous versions. I am using an early 2009 Mac Book Pro 15". The problem does not occur on a Windows PC running the same game. The CPU usage due to Java using PNG's on a Windows PC (I have tried XP, Vista and 7) is always constantly low at ~10%. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

While the compiler can figure out same casing // it makes it hard to read private Class2 Class2; // we camel case the parameter public Class1(Class2 class2){ this.Class2 = class2; } } Here are my stock rules The class name is capitalized (Class1) The public properties are capitalized (Prop1) The private field tied to a public property has m_ to indicate this. My coworker prefers _ There is some debate if using m_ or _ should be used at all, as it is like Hungarian notation. Private class fields are capitalized. The part I am trying to figure out is what do I do if when the Class name of a private field matches the private field name. For example, private Class2 Class2; This is confusing. If the private field name is not the same class, for example private string Name; , there isn't much issue. Or am I thinking about the issue wrong. Should my classes and private fields be named in such a way that they don't collide?

• Spring MVC: Where to place validation and how to validation entity references.

  Let's say I have the following command bean for creating a user: public class CreateUserCommand { private String userName; private String email; private Integer occupationId; pirvate Integer countryId; } occupationId and countryId are drop down selected values on the form. They map to an entity in the database (Occupation, Country). This command object is going to be fed to a service facade like so: userServiceFacade.createUser(CreateUserCommand command); This facade will construct a user entity to be sent to the actual service. So I suppose that in the facade layer I will have to make several dao calls to map all the lookup properties of the User entity. Based on this what is the best strategy to validate that occupationId and countryId map to real entities? Where is the best place to perform this validation? There is the spring validator but I am not sure this is the best place for this, for one I am wary of this method as validation is tied to the web tier, but also that means I would need to make the dao calls in the validator for validation but I would need to call the dao's in the facade layer again when the command - entity translation occurs. Is there anything I can do better? Thanks.

  One of my WCF functions returns an object that has a member variable of a type from another library that is beyond my control. I cannot decorate that library's classes. In fact, I cannot even use DataContractSurrogate because the library's classes have private member variables that are essential to operation (i.e. if I return the object without those private member variables, the public properties throw exceptions). If I say that interoperability for this particular method is not needed (at least until the owners of this library can revise to make their objects serializable), is it possible for me to use WCF to return this object such that it can at least be consumed by a .NET client? How do I go about doing that? Update: I am adding pseudo code below... // My code, I have control [DataContract] public class MyObject { private TheirObject theirObject; [DataMember] public int SomeNumber { get { return theirObject.SomeNumber; } // public property exposed private set { } } } // Their code, I have no control public class TheirObject { private TheirOtherObject theirOtherObject; public int SomeNumber { get { return theirOtherObject.SomeOtherProperty; } set { // ... } } } I've tried adding DataMember to my instance of their object, making it public, using a DataContractSurrogate, and even manually streaming the object. In all cases, I get some error that eventually leads back to their object not being explicitly serializable.

• jQuery .height() property not working

  I'm attempting to get the height of an element using jQuery, but am receiving some unexpected results.   I am writing a shooting game in cocos2d. And each enemy enters the screen after the current one is dead. I have stores the enemies and their properties in plist. I need to save the current state of the game. If any phone call comes the game should be started from the current state. I am using extern and using the value here. tempCount4 = [[myDefaultOptions stringForKey:@"enemyNumber"]intValue] ; } - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { [[CCDirector sharedDirector] end]; [myDefaultOptions setObject:tempCount4 forKey:@"enemyNumber"]; } The control is not entering in to the (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application when I pressed the Home button. And when I touched the game icon on the screen the game is running from first screen and in log (terminal )it is not showing any values. And what should I store to resume my game from stored state. • Is there a faster way to access a property member of a class using reflection?

  I am currently using the following code to access the property of an object using reflection: Dim propInfo As Reflection.PropertyInfo = myType.GetProperty(propName) Dim objValue As Object = propInfo.GetValue(myObject, Nothing) I am having some issues with the speed since this type of code is being called many times and is causing some slowdown. I have been looking into using Refelction.Emit or dynamic methods, but I am not sure exactly how to make use of them. Background Information: I am creating a list of a subset of the properties of the object, associating then with some meta information (such as if they can be loaded from the database or xml, if they are editable, can the user see them). This is for later consumption so we can write code such as : foreach prop as BaseWrapper in graphNode.NodeProperties prop.LoadFromDataRow(dr) next The application makes heavy use of having access to this list. The problem is that on the initial load of a project, a larger number of objects are being created that make use of this, so for each object created it is looping through this code a number of times. I initially tried adding each property to the list manually, but this ran into problems with not everything being initialized at the correct time and some other issues. If there is no other good way, then I may have to rethink some of the design and see what else can be done to improve the performance.
