• RelativeLayout - positioning a View under a ViewGroup

  I have the following structure defined in an xml layout file. <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/mainLayout" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <FrameLayout android:id="@+id/frame" android:layout_centerInParent="true" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" ></FrameLayout> <Button android:id="@+id/button" android:layout_below="@id/frame" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </RelativeLayout> The FrameLayout is positioned correctly in the center of its parent. But the Button isn't getting positioned under it. Instead it's displaying in the top left corner. Am I doing something incorrectly or is this a bug with RelativeLayout?

  I am developing a Java Desktop Application. This app needs a configuration to be started. For this, I want to supply a defaultConfig.properties or defaultConfig.xml file with the application so that If user doesn't select any configuration, then the application will start with the help of defaultConfig file. But I am afraid of my application crash if the user accidentally edit the defaultConfig file. So Is there any mechanism through which I can check before the start of the application that whether the config file has changed or not. How other applications (out in the market) deal with this type of situation in which their application depends on a configuration file? If the user edited the config file accidentally or intentionally, then the application won't run in future unless he re-installs the application.

• jQuery ajax request to php, how to return plain text only

  I am making an ajax request to a php page and I cannot for the life of me get it to just return plain text. $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/shipping/test.php', cache: false, dataType: 'text', data: myData, success: function(data){ console.log(data) } }); in test.php I am including this script to get UPS rates. I am then calling the function with $rate = ups($dest_zip,$service,$weight,$length,$width,$height); I am doing echo $rate; at the bottom of test.php. When viewed in a browser shows the rate, that's great. But when I request the page via ajax I get a bunch of XML. Pastie here: http://pastie.org/1416142 My question is, how do I get it so I can just return the plain text string from the ajax call, where the result data will be a number? • Hibernate without primary keys generated by db?

  I'm building a data warehouse and want to use InfiniDB as the storage engine. However, it doesn't allow primary keys or foreign key constraints (or any constraints for that matter). Hibernate complains "The database returned no natively generated identity value" when I perform an insert. Each table is relational, and contains a unique integer column that was previously used as the primary key - I want to keep that, but just not have the constraint in the db that the column is the primary key. I'm assuming the problem is that Hibernate expects the db to return a generated key. • Base64 Encoded Data - DB or Filesystem

  I have a new program that will be generating a lot of Base64 encoded audio and image data. This data will be served via HTTP in the form of XML and the Base64 data will be inline. These files will most likely break 20MB and higher. Would it be more efficient to serve these files directly from the filesystem or would it be feasible to store the data in a MySQL database? Caching will be set up but overall unnecessary because it is likely that this data will be purged shortly after it is created and served. i know that storing binary data in the DB is frowned upon in most circumstances but since this will all be character data I want to see what the consensus is. As of now, I am leaning toward storing them in the filesystem for efficiency reasons but if it is feasible to store them in a database it would be much easier to manage the data.

• Which faces technology for use with GlassFish 2.1 and NetBeans 6.7?

  I'm running GlassFish 2.1 and using NetBeans 6.7. I'd like to create a web interface to my data using JSF 1.2. Trouble is, I'm not sure which 'faces' technology to learn (that includes some good documentation). JBoss/RichFaces seem pretty good on documentation, but I'm using GlassFish. Any thoughts? The choices appear overwhelming: Tomahawk Tobago Trinidad ICEfaces RCFaces Netadvantage WebGalileoFaces QuipuKit BluePrints Woodstock JBoss RichFaces Ajax4jsf ILOG Oracle ADF G4JSF Simplica Backbase jenia4faces VisualWebPack DynaFaces IBM Impl Dinamica Mojarra PrimeFaces jQuery OpenFaces ZK ExtJS Anybody had any experience with any of the above and found the documentation to be clear to a beginner? Being a JSF/Web beginner, I tried some ICEFaces, Mojarra tutorials and had a go at getting RichFaces working with NBeans and GlassFish, but no luck. Lots of XML complaints. I'm clearly missing some huge chunks of configuration, but I can't find any documentation to help me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated :-)

  Hello I've got an application which serves an rss feed of headlines and I need to provide this rss feed to other consumers. I don't want to provide the rss directly from my server though, due to limited server resources, so I need to proxy (cache) it through some service which will handle the load. Assuming the rss feed URL of my application is http://example.com/rss I initially provided my consumers with the url http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/feed/load?v=1.0&q=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Frss which solved my server load problem but introduced a liveness problem. The headlines are minutes to hours late from the actual feed (haven't exactly measured how much late). I've also tried distributing through feedburner so the url became something like http://feeds.feedburner.com/example123?format=xml but the liveness problem still exists. Is there a public and free solution for this problem? Anything below 5 minutes of liveness delay would be totally acceptable. thanks

  I've added the appropriate XML to my PLIST ("audio key") and my app did stream audio in the background. I installed the app on to an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 via Ad Hoc distribution. I played audio in my app and pressed the home key. It was still playing. Then I switched computers and reset my provisioning profile. I recompiled and exported with a generic provisioning profile. I sent the app to someone else to test on their 3GS via Ad Hoc and the app does not work in the background.

  I have a project where I create WiX (Windows Installer for XML) files, when they are not already present. It is working perfectly. Now I want to expand it to add more functionality. I was wondering if there is a way to create a Visual Studio project programmatically? This project is run as part of our nightly build process, and when a new wix file is needed it is created, but I want to have everything in place when the build is finished so if necessary you can just open the project in Visual Studio and start editing. Am I dreaming outside the realm of possibility or no? Any nudge in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

We want ANY user under Security Groups OU to have access to the application and not just the CN. Tomcat does not search OU's and it just searches CN's in our case.   Hi everybody, i am trying to use a container managed datasource (via context.xml) in tomcat. The corresponding jar file needs to go in $catalina_home/lib, otherwise tomcat can't find it. (not in webapp/WEB-INF/lib, because it is managed by the webserver, not by the application itself) the problem is: I am using maven with the maven-tomcat-plugin, so I don't have a $catalina_home (everything is distributed in my .m2 -repository). The most common technique I see is to add XML, such as this (from Android docs: My view is within a RelativeView and when I attempt to reference this GetureOverlayView, I get an exception. I've also tried to connect within my existing custom view class, like this: mGestures = new GestureOverlayView(context, attrs); mGestures.addOnGesturePerformedListener(this); But the callback is never invoked. Can someone see my errors or suggest a better way that will allow me to get gesture callbacks?

• Animating and rotating an image in a Surface View

  I would like to animate movement on a SurfaceView . Ideally I would like to also be notified once the animation had finished. For example: I might have a car facing North. If I wanted to animate it so that it faces South for a duration of 500ms, how could I do that? I am using a SurfaceView so all animation must be handled manually, I don't think I can use XML or the android Animator classes. Also, I would like to know the best way to animate something continuously inside a SurfaceView (ie. a walk cycle)

  My company is planning to implement a solution in multiple applications that will help to validate mailing addresses at the point of data entry. We're using UPS's Extended Address Validation (XAV) web service API to validate the addresses. Our current plan is to build a .NET web service that can be used to communicate between our applications and the UPS API. We have applications in VB6, classic ASP, and .NET 2.0, so we'd like to implement a solution that can be easily consumed by each of these programming environments. What are our (Microsoft) options for designing a web service that can be consumed by multiple clients? In particular, is there a way to design a single web service that can respond with JSON (in case we want to validate our web page using javascript) in addition to XML? I'm new to designing web services and want to make sure we consider all of our options. I've heard terms like asmx, WCF, OData, etc., but I don't know which frameworks will support what we're trying to do and where to start.

  hi is there a tool that i can use to generated msdn type documentation? i recently just started playing with sandcastle and i found that there used to a tool called scriptdoc but it has been absorbed into aptana and i don't really want to use aptana studio. what i could find so far is jsdoc which is a perl script which extracts comments from javascript files but i'm still looking for a better fit. from my initial testing it seems that the xml generated from jsdoc doesn't match completed with sandcastle or maybe i'm missing something there... any help?

• Missing System.Core.dll and others on Visual Studio 2010 Project targeting 3.5 Framework

  I just got Visual Studio 2010 installed and running on my development machine (alongside VS 2008). The first thing I did was make a copy of an existing project and convert it up to the VS 2010 project. I told the conversion wizard to leave the project targeting the 3.5 framework. The project compiles and runs just fine in VS 2008. When I go to build it, several of my references are marked as missing (System.Core, System.Xml.Linq, System.Data.DataSetExtensions). When I go to the Add Reference dialog, they are not present. Yet if I view the GAC at C:\Windows\Assembly, I can see the entries there. I have tried converting the projects to 4.0, then back down to 3.5, and also unloading/reloading the projects. Nothing works. Has anyone else ran across this problem?

  i have a table like this one: id | name | score mapped to a POJO via XML with Hibernate. The score column i only need in oder by - clauses in HQL. The value for the score column is calculated by an algorithm and updated every 24 hours via SQL batch process (JDBC). So i dont wanna pollute my POJO with properties i dont need at runtime. For a single column that may be not a problem, but i have several different score columns. Is there a way to map a property for HQL use only? For example like this: <property name="score" type="double" ignore="true"/> so that i still can do this: from Pojo p order by p.score but my POJO implementation can look like this: public class Pojo { private long id; private String name; // ... } No Setter for score provided or property added to implementation. using the latest Hibernate version for Java.
