  I have a vs2008 GAT package that has been updated to work on vs2010 which walks a developer through creating a custom solution complete with a Service layer project, Domain, usercontrol, and unit test project. I'd like to add a new ItemTemplate to the package to create a user control or dialog that adheres to our current practices. So far it seems I need a Recipe, but I can not find any reference for the GuidancePackage.xml file and how to properly add things to it, let alone how to add a new Item Template or guidance steps and decisions. How can I add an item template to my add-in?

However, I have a lot of these, and want to batch them up (i.e. not have to have a GET per file). • Best means to store data locally when offline

  I am in the midst of writing a small program (more to experiment with vs 2010 than anything else) Despite being an experiment it has some practical use for our local athletics club. My thought was to access the DB (currently online) to download the current members and store locally on a laptop (this is a MS sql table, used to power the club's website). take the laptop to the event (yes there ARE places that don't have internet coverage), add members to that days race (also a row from a sql table (though no changes would be made to this), record results (new records in 3rd table) Once home, showered and within internet access again, upload/edit the tables as per the race results/member changes etc. So I was thinking i'd do something like write xml files locally with the data, including a field to indicate changes etc? If anyone can point me in a direction i would appreciate it...hell if anyone could tell me if this has a name, I'd appreciate it.

• BufferedReader ready method in a while loop to determine EOF?

  I have a large file (wikipedia english arcticles only database as xml file) I am using to read one character at a time using BufferedReader. The psuedo code is: file = BufferedReader... while (file.ready()) character = file.read() is this actually valid? Or will ready just return false when it is waiting for the HDD to return data and not actually when the EOF has been reached? I tried to use if (file.read() == -1) but seemed to run into an infinite loop that I literally could not find. I am just wondering if it is reading the whole file as my statistics say 444 380 wikipedia pages have been read but I thought there were many more articles..

  I have created a login.jsp with some login username and password. Users are categorized into A and B. Then I have to redirect each user according to the user category. I also need to retrieve the username in the next page.   I've been stuck with the math in a Flash project? It's a loose design pattern my director formulated. My goal is to keep the project object oriented, and get 'non Flash obstacles' off my plate. Do you recommend using parsing engines for processing math? XML values going to AS3, updating a changing acceleration formula. I don't hate math, but it just doesn't seem OOP or good project planning to have the math stuck in Flash. Your comments are welcome.

• Using sscanf to parse two strings out

  I have a semi xml formatted file that contains line with the following format: <param name="Distance" value="1000Km" /> The first char in the string is usually a TAB or spaces. I've been using the following to try to parse the two strings out (from name and value): if(sscanf(lineread, "\t<param name=\"%s\" value=\"%s\" />", name, value) == 1) { //do something } name and value are char* Now, the result is always the same: name gets parse (I need to remove the quotes) and name is always empty. • Network message serialization for game

  Exit-games make a network library product called photon, and they have and actively develop a limited mmo demo. Rather than shooting off json or XML, etc. saying "MovePlayer" (with associated params), they nut that message down to a 2 digit int, via an enum - something like Operations.MovePlayer. There's no denying that a 2 digit int is smaller than a longer string, however I really hate the idea of statically burning each and every message into an enum. Would there be an alternative way to have a MessageID property assign itself a unique 2 digit int based on a lookup table or something? Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing before?

  Hello I'm building a Spring MVC web application that runs on Tomcat 6.0.20 and JDK 1.6.0_19. When I send some special characters through an HTML form some of them are stored as question marks ? For example these symbols are stored correctly: €, á, é, í, ‰, etc But some symbols are replaced with ? like: £, ?, ? MySQL tables charset is utf-8. My jsp also use utf-8 <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> I have included org.springframework.web.filter.CharacterEncodingFilter in web.xml as suggested here When I debug the POST request when sending 3 characters €a£ with firebug I get: %E2%82%ACa%E2%82%A4 which is correct since E2 82 AC is the code for € and E2 82 A4 is the code for £ but £ is stored as ? in the database. When I save £ directly into the database it is displayed correctly in the webpage. How can I fix this?

  I'm starting to delve into using Spring DM and OSGi services in an RCP application. I've created a service which is used by another bundle in the RCP application. It does a lookup of the service via calls to getBundleContext().getServiceReference() using the explicit bundle names and service class names. I'm not using DI anywhere yet. The issue I'm running into is that the service that is returned in the requesting bundle is a singleton. At times I notice a threading issue since it is a "stateful" service. How do I configure the application to get back a new service instance with each call? • Is it possible to dither a gradient drawable?

  I'm using the following drawable: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle" > <gradient android:startColor="@color/content_background_gradient_start" android:endColor="@color/content_background_gradient_end" android:angle="270" /> </shape> The problem is that I get severe banding on hdpi devices (like the Nexus One and Droid) since the gradient goes from the top of the screen to the very bottom. According to http://idunnolol.com/android/drawables.html#shape_gradient there isn't a "dither" attribute for a gradient. Is there anything I can do to smooth the gradient?

  Did you use teamviewer? (comic question i know... Who doesn't use it?) Do you have any idea how does teamviewer make connection even if i am behind the router, firewall, switch and my local firewall..? I'm trying to imagine a connection that is between remote machinge and my computer. Remote machine is sending the packets (and its header (for instance, destination IP, message body)) to me but it only knows my id number(which is given by my local teamviewer application). And this packets are reaching to my computer even if there is a juniper firewall (and also my windows firewall). What kind a message body is recieving by computer? (of course it is not like xml, text, html, excel :) Do you have any idea? PS. Please share your knowledge like you are explaining to beginner level user.

• Get/save parameters to an expected JMock method call?

  Hi, I want to test an "Adapter" object that when it receives an xml message, it digest it to a Message object, puts message ID + CorrelationID both with timestamps and forwards it to a Client object.=20 A message can be correlated to a previous one (e.g. m2.correlationID =3D m1.ID). I mock the Client, and check that Adapter successfully calls "client.forwardMessage(m)" twice with first message with null correlationID, and a second with a not-null correlationID. However, I would like to precisely test that the correlationIDs are set correctly, by grabing the IDs (e.g. m1.ID). But I couldn't find anyway to do so. There is a jira about adding the feature, but no one commented and it is unassigned. Is this really unimplemented? I read about the alternative of redesigning the Adapter to use an IdGenerator object, which I can stub, but I think there will be too many objects.=20 Don't you think it adds unnecessary complexity to split objects to a so fine granularity? • Is Classic ADO still viable for a mixed managed/unmanaged App?

  We have a complex architecture with much logic in unmanaged code that needs database access. Currently this is via ODBC drivers and MFC classes and we're considering the issues of migrating our abstraction layer to use ADO or ADO.Net. In the latter case we'd have to be pushing database logic back up into the .Net layer. I'm trying to decide if the pain of invoking the database via .Net callbacks is offset by the improvements in ADO.Net. The Wikipedia comparison was interesting although I'm not sure I believe all the points in the comparison table (eg: does ADO.Net always use XML to pass data?). A 2005 comparison shows ADO.Net performing dramatically faster. Microsoft's guide to ADO.Net for ADO programmers suggests we will gain much from going to ADO.Net especially the way that data is available in native (.Net) types rather than solely through OLEAutomation's Variant.

• Import small number of records from a very large CSV file in Biztalk 2006

  I have a Biztalk project that imports an incoming CSV file and dumps it to a database table. The import works fine, but I only need to keep about 200-300 records from a file with upwards of a million rows. My orchestration discards these rows, but the problem is that the flat file I'm importing is still 250MB, and when converted to XML using a regular flat file pipeline, it takes hours to process and sometimes causes the server to run out memory. Is there something I can do to have the Custom Pipeline itself discard rows I don't care about? The very first item in each CSV row is one of a few strings, and I only want to keep rows that start with a certain string. Thanks for any help you're able to provide.

• How do I make php page return a 503 error (or anything non-200).

  A former developer wrote or client-server api in PHP. It simply sends messages as xml using post/response in a very simplistic fashion. The problem is that even when there is an error (ex: invalid arguments passed into the server side) we get a HTTP 200 response with a page like this <h4>Unknown error!</h4> In firebug I can see that the actually HTTP response is a 200. How can we send a different response (ie:503) when we programatically detect in our php code that it is appropriate to do so.
