  • Launching a Facebook page from an iPhone app via QR code

    I'm trying to create a QR code that launches a Facebook page from the app, rather than the browser on both Android and iOS. Creating the code with fb://page/<page id>, works perfectly on an Android. This was also supposed to work with iOS's Facebook app, but I think since Facebook updated their app recently from a HTML5 version to a fully native iOS app, that functionality has stopped working. It indeed opens the Facebook app, but it does not go to the page. Has anyone else seen this happen since the app was updated a few weeks ago? And what string would I have to use to create a working QR Code for iOS's Facebook app?

    All right all, So I've got a UITableView that is inited in applicationDidFinishLaunching like so: [self showForumList]; Said method does this: -(void)showForumList { ForumList *fl = [ForumList alloc]; [fl initWithNibName:@"ForumList" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; self.ForumList = fl; [window addSubview:[self.ForumList view]]; [fl release]; }where self.ForumList is previously defined in the interface as ForumList *ForumList;, etc. Now, in ForumList (itself an extension of UITableViewController obviously), I've got didSelectRowAtIndexPath: -- within it I have the following code: Forum *f = [Forum alloc]; NSArray *forums = [f getForumList]; NSDictionary *selectedForum = [forums objectAtIndex:[indexPath row]]; NSString *Url = [selectedForum objectForKey:@"url"]; NSString *Username = [selectedForum objectForKey:@"username"]; NSString *Password = [selectedForum objectForKey:@"password"]; NSLog(@"Identified press on forum %@ (%@/%@)", Url, Username, Password); [self.globalDelegate showForumListFromForumUsingUrl:Url username:Username password:Password]; [self.globalDelegate closeForumList]; NSLog(@"ForumListFromForum init"); Both of the NSLog calls in this function are executed and perform as they should. Now, here is where the issue starts. self.globalDelegate is defined as AppDelegate *globalDelegate; in the Interface specification in my header file.     Apps that allow users to log in over a 3rd party authentication provider (e.g. Facebook, Google, Twoitter,...) should open a browser window to let the user authenticate against the provider. That means, at some point, an app is backgrounded and the user interacts with a browser window. Just before the browser opens, it's a recommended pratctice to inform the user about what will happen (see e.g. Getting Started with OAuth 2.0 - O'Reilly), let's say an alert window with something like "you will leave now the XYZ app and a browser window will open where you can enter your credentials safely". My question: How can that be done if I use the facebook SDK for ios? Looking at the SDK, there seem to be no notifications and no designated states that would allow me to detect that the sdk is about to background my app and about to opening either Safari or the Facebook app.

  • Can I just release the top object (iPhone)?

    If I release the object that's holding a reference to the variable that I need to release, is that sufficient? Or must I release at every level of the containment hierarchy? I fear that my logic comes from working with a garbage collector for too long. For instance, I assigned to this property of a UIPickerView instance by hand instead of using IB @property(nonatomic, assign) id<UIPickerViewDelegate> delegate Since it's an assign property, I can't just release the reference after I assign it. When I finally release my UIPickerView instance, do I need to do this: [singlePicker.delegate release]; [singlePicker release]; or is the second line sufficient? Also: Are these assign properties the norm, or is that mostly for Interface Builder? I thought that retain properties were the normal thing to expect.

    Hello everyone, I've been stuck with this problem for hours and I can't see the light. Please give me a hand with this: I have a tableview and a searchbar. The searchbar is situated in the navigationbar. When I do a fast scroll of the tableview, if I select the searchbar while the tableview is still decelerating, a exception raises: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: ' -[NSMutableArray objectAtIndex:]: index 31 beyond bounds for empty array' How can I stop programmatically the deceleration of the tableview?   • Playing a sequence of sounds without gaps (iPhone)

    I thought maybe the fastest way was to go with Sound Services. It is quite efficient, but I need to play sounds in a sequence, not overlapped. Therefore I used a callback method to check when the sound has finished. This cycle produces around 0.3 seconds in lag. I know this sounds very strict, but it is basically the main axis of the program. EDIT: I now tried using AVAudioPlayer, but I can't play sounds in a sequence without using audioPlayerDidFinishPlaying since that would put me in the same situation as with the callback method of SoundServices. EDIT2: I think that if I could somehow get to join the parts of the sounds I want to play into a large file, I could get the whole audio file to sound continuously. EDIT3: I thought this would work, but the audio overlaps: waitTime = player.deviceCurrentTime; for (int k = 0; k < [colores count]; k++) { player.currentTime = 0; [player playAtTime:waitTime]; waitTime += player.duration; } Thanks

    Here is a bit of disappointing news for Apple fan boys. Steve Jobs is again going on medical leave as he wants to concentrate on his health for sometime. In an email to the employees of Apple Steve said, At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health..I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011   In the mail, Steve also said that plans for the product releases scheduled in 2011 will not be affected. This means as rumoured iPad 2 In April, iPhone 5 In June With New Hardware. There is not much information on the medical complications Steve is facing now, but many are thinking  its linked to the liver transplant he had in 2009. What ever may be reason, we wish for this speedy recovery.   • No Clipboard support in Windows Phone 7 Series &ndash; iPhone points laughs

    What exactly were you taking of late MSFT? So much for a spanking new mobile OS which wants to emulate the iPhone OS so badly that it even copied and pasted the iPhone’s erstwhile lack of clipboard support as well? The reason given is so lame (shall I say differently able?) that deserves pity rather than lament. According to MSFT people don’t use the clipboard that often. Being a WinMo user for the better part of my life and having developed for the platform for worse part of it I could say with conviction that Clipboard support was one key differentiator which kept me away from “The Phone to have” of 2007-8-9. Let me try to find few use cases I for one have been using the clipboard. Copy files to and from card and phone memory. Copy images, audio files from apps/browsers/explorer to email other apps. Copy text to/from word documents, notes and emails. Copy content from network drives to memory card. Copy links between browsers (Yes i did it for the love of Opera and PIE alike). Others could definitely come up with more. So who are these so called “users” who provided feedback to MSFT that the clipboard is useless?   • Hired developer insists on doing things the wrong way

    Hello, i am working with Social Networking iphone app which require remote data connection. So i hired a php developer in order to provide me RESTful services. But when i start working with him, he arguing me that he will not make stored procedures and web services. Instead of he suggested me to pass query as a parameter. Suppose If I have to call Search service, he told me to send POST request with 3 parameters: Query="select * from users", username=abd and password = 123 And i thing there is no such architecture in order to use remote data. Then he is saying it is possible through socket programming. And I am 100% sure this is not an appropriate way to access remote data. This is simply illogical. Thousands of iphone application using REST/SOAP services to make remote data connection He just declined me to provide RESTful services. Please its my heartily advice to all developers that post your own views over here. So that I can show to that developers that these are the views from all developers worldwide.

  • Customer owes me half my payment. Should I take ownership of his AWS account for charging? How?

    Background They paid me my first half (back in April 15th) before even we could get into an agreement. Very nice of him! Then I've finished the 2 weeks job of setting up the servers, using his AWS credentials he had just bought. I waited for another 2 weeks for everything settling up, and it was all running fine. He did what he needed with his sftp account, everyone were happy. Now, it has been almost 2 months since I've finished the job and I still didn't get the 2nd half. I must assume, it's not much money (about U$400, converted), but it would help me pay the bills at least. Heck, the Amazon bills they are paying are little less than that (for now). Measures I'm wondering how I can go to charge him now. First thought, of course, would be taking everything down and say "pay now, or be doomed". If that's not good enough, then I lost it. I have no contracts and I doubt I could get a law suit in this country for such a low value based only on emails. And I don't really want to get too agressive here - there might be a business chance in the future and I don't want to ruin it. Second though would be just changing the password. But then he probably could gain access again by some recovery means. That's where my question may mainly relay. How can I do it and not leaving any room for recovery from his side? I even got the first AWS "your account was created" mail from himself, showing me I could begin my job, back then. Lastly, do you have any other idea on what I can and what I should do in this case? Responding to Answers Please, consider reading the current answers and comments. This is not a very simple case. I've considered many, many options (including all lawful ones) before considering this ones I've listed here, and I am willing to take the loss and all that. That's not the point. The point is being practical here. I will call him again and talk about it. I will do terrorism on getting lawyers and getting contract. I am ready to go all forth while I have time and energy for it. But, in practice, there is this extra thing I can do to assure myself of the work I've done. I can basically take it back and delete everything! I'd only take his password because I can find no other way to do it within Amazon. Maybe, contacting Amazon and explaining the situation?   • How to dock CPaneDialog to MainFrm and.. ?

    Hello, I have problem with CPaneDialog. I tested with SetPaneSize MFC feature pack sample projects. What is weird is that CPaneDialog can't be docked to MainFrm while CDockablePane can be. The CPaneDialog is also a child class of the CDockablePane, but it can't be. Only DockToWindow( &other_CPaneDialog_instance... ) is possible. If I call DockToPane(), the content of the CPaneDialog is not drawn or refreshed correctly. How can a CPaneDialog be docked to MainFrm window? Another problem is about drawing. If remove codes for tree control in the SetPaneSize sample, the content of the view1 ( an instance of CDockablePane) is not redrawn properly. After doing some experiment, I decided that something should be done in its OnSize and OnPaint method. (OnSize is more critical. ) Is this expected behaviour?

    I would like to develop a small notifications application for Windows in .NET that docks on the right/left side of the screen (not consuming more than 300px), should always be visible and force the rest of windows to not overlap this application (something like the old Office taskbar or Vista's Sidebar). I have no idea where to start. Can it be done using XAML/WPF? Since I haven't even started coding any option is valid at this point. Thanks!

    I'm looking to find a way to install an app automatically on an iphone. An example would be: I have an app called my.app. It's located on my desktop on my mac. When I plug in my iphone to my computer it automatically installs my.app on to my iphone. Is this possible? Any ideas of how I could possible do this or get a workaround? Or, it needs to prompt the user to install it. The app doesn't need to automatically install; it just needs to automatically prompt the user on the iPhone to ask if they want to install it or not.

    I am facing issues in setting up VPN connection(IKEv1) using iPhone (Defult Cisco VPN client) and Strongswan 4.5.0 server. The Strongswan server is running on Ubuntu Linux, which is connected to some wifi hotspot. This is the guide which was used. I generated CA, server and client certificate, with the only difference mentioned below. “While generating server certificate, as per link CN=vpn.strongswan.org instead of this I changed CN name to CN=192.168.43.212.” Once certificates are generated, following (clientCert.p12 and caCert.pem) are sent to mobile via mail and installed on iphone. After installation I notice that certificates are considered as trusted also. Below are the ip addresses assigned to various interfaces Linux server wlan0 interface ip where server is running: 192.168.43.212 Iphone eth0 interface ip address: 192.168.43.72. iphone is also attached with the same wifi hotspot. Below is the snapshot of client configurations. Description Strong swan Server 192.168.43.212 Account ipsecvpn Password ***** Use certificate ON Certificate client The above username and password are in sync with the ipsec.secrets file.
