• DNS down in Anonymous attack

  As I'm writing this our company website and the web-service we developed are down in the big GoDaddy outage resulting from an Anonymous attack (or so says Twitter). We used GoDaddy as our registrar and we use it for DNS for some domains. Tomorrow is a new day - what can we do to mitigate such outages? Simply moving to, say, Route 53 for DNS might not be enough. Is there any way to remove this single point of failure?

• Apache config on Suse 10

  We upgraded from Suse 9 to Suse 10 which upgrade apache from 2.0.x to 2.2.x. Now I cannot access the website using the hostname. I can access using defined ServerName in the VirtualHost config but when using http://servername/path I get a 403 access denied error. Do I have to do anything extra to be able to access the site using servername?

  I have a website that let's users create a subdomain app like this: https://subdomain.mydomain.com I want them to be able to have the app appear as if it's on their site, like this: https://myapp.theirdomain.com or maybe https://theirdomain.com/myapp/ I'm using Heroku and was wondering if this is realistic and how the ssl certificate would be done such that it worked on both domains? If not, can I get it at least working on their domain?

• Display tracert on Google or Bing Maps

  Is there a program of perhaps website that can display a list of ip-adresses on Google or Bing maps? For instance, if I do tracert -d www.youtube.com, I'll get a bunch of IP-addresses, displaying the path my request travelled. I'd think it funny to see this on a map, but I find it hard to enter all these IP-addresses manually. Does anybody know a program that can do this?

  I'm using MS Visio 2003 Standard. When I first was using it 3 years ago, it would let you search a database of thousands of ready-made templates, which I think Microsoft hosted at their own website. Several months ago, these templates were no longer available. I'm looking for some kind of replacement for common computer architecture and digital circuits, as well as user interface mock-ups. Does anybody know where I can find an assortment of these 'shapes'?

• ErrorDocument not working when accessing .htaccess

  I've been setting up ErrorDocuments for a website I'm working, and generally they've been working. However, after I set the 403 ErrorDocument, I noticed that it didn't work when I tried to access the .htaccess file itself. When I access a different forbidden file, the Error Document appears just fine. How can I make the ErrorDocument work on the .htaccess file?   Is it possible in IIS 6 to administrate users as in IIS 7 (e.g. as described here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731783%28v=ws.10%29.aspx)? In IIS7 you can define users within the ASP.NET group with click on .NET users and it automatically creates a ms sql server db in background in the website directory. So far I didn't found anything about the issue, most forum questions are about how to migrate asp.net sites from IIS6 to IIS7.

• Snort install issue on debian 6 with libpcre - libpcre library not found

  I've read the manual on snort.org for installing snort on Debian but am still having an issue. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I've tried installing the libpcre3 amd libpcre3-dev packages by using apt-get and also manually installing by downloading the latest version off the tcpdump website. Any ideas? Checking for pcre-compile in -l pcre...no Error! Libpcre library not found. Get it from http://www.pcre.org

• Apple, Time Capsule: can I use it for servers ?

  hi, i was wondering if I can use Time Capsule from a server. Let's say I have an ubuntu server, and I'm running some websites and web applications on it. I would install these appications on ubuntu but then store the "file folders" of each website or application (with images, videos, etc.. ) on Airport capsule and leave only the application files on the server. I've verified that the "FTP Publishing Service" is installed in the server manager, and I can see it running in the services applet and via netstat -a. Suggestions?

• Firebug always showing JavaScript error "setting a property that has only a getter Line 0"?

  I am on FF 3.6 on OS X with Firebug 1.5 and whenever I am using Firebug, no matter what website I am on, a Javascript error always shows up: setting a property that has only a getter Line 0 I have disabled all other add-ons but I still always get this error. It doesn't seem to affect anything but it is still annoying. Any ideas on why this is happening?
