• Can decoupling hurt maintainability in certain situations?

  Can the fact that the business logic is mapped to interfaces instead of implementations actually hinder the maintenance of the application in certain situations? A naive example with the Java's Hibernate framework would be, that for example (provided I don't have the whole code-base in my head, the project structure is a mess and classes are named with arbitrary names) if I wish to see what's going on in a certain DAO, to see if it actually is doing what it's supposed to do, then instead of traversing backwards up the tree from the point where the data service is invoked (where the tree will end in an interface with no implementation details whatsoever apart from the signature) I have to for example go and look for a configuration XML file to see which class is mapped to said interface as the implementation before being able to access the actual implementation details. Are there any situations where having loose coupling can actually hurt maintainability?

  There are more than 10 categories in my site, users can register more than one category. My php script prepare contents of each category, according to user preference my script merge those contents for each user. so every user can get what category they want. Problem is I want to send 340+ mails per hour and dreamhost dont allow. What do you suggest? I think to a service like mailchimp but I couldnt find that scenario, do they support category & content etc. Can I use smtp in dreamhost?

  I checked the post (Where can I find programming puzzles and challenges?) where there's a lot of programming challenges and such, but after checking several of them, they all seem to be about algorithms and mathematics. Is there a similar site for purely logic/functionality-based challenges? For example: - Retrieve data using a web service - Generate output X from a CSV file - Protect this code against SQL injection - Make this code more secure - What is wrong with this code (where the error is in logic, not syntax) - Make this loop more efficient Does a challenge site like that exist? Especially one that provides hints and/or correct solutions. That would be a very helpful learning site.

  I have a question about Software Architecture, anyone can help me or give me some hints currently, I have a J2EE project which deploys in a server, I should a Java Standard project(J2SE) should run 24 hours x 7 days to monitor something it could not run separately, because the Java Project shared the some same classes such as Java Bean classes with the J2EE project maybe my design is not correct, can anyone suggest me what should I do? Using SOA? is this correct? my current solution is run this java project using a bash, but I dont think it is then best idea.   We have an application developed with .Net on server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5 wich is linked liked to oracle 11g on another server. Our problem is that we lose the service every two or three or more. The application stops and we have to restart IIS or the server to continue the job (the number of users is less then 50). We have no error message. Do you know anything to do to avoid this situation, something like: A parameter to put on asp pages A parameter to switch on or off on the server or on the database

• Auto-provisioning hosting via API

  I've built a sort of 'software as a service' website package for a specific industry. What I am looking to do is create a payment gateway that allows users to subscribe-- and once the subscription is active, it would auto-provision a web hosting plan for them (a shared account on a server, probably in a chroot'd environment so each user would be insulated from others). Ideally it would auto-install a CMS as well. Tons of web hosts provide a simple reseller plan where I could manually create all the users' hosting accounts-- but so far none that I've found allow you to do this via API. Is there a way to do this short of writing custom shell scripts on something like an EC2 platform? I'd prefer to leave all the server maintenance in the hands of dedicated support staff rather than having to manually handle updates, backups, etc. Thanks for any tips.

• XRDP crashes when using xfce desktop

  I've been struggling with this for a few days. Currently using Ubuntu 14.04. I started out trying to use VNC and could connect but only received a black and white checkered screen when connecting using tightvnc from my windows machine. Seems that applications seem to have issues interpreting the gnome graphics. I then tried XRDP and received the same issue but was able to find enough information to get by this issue. After creating a .xsession file and setting the desktop to spawn an xfce4-session I was able to connect and the desktop displays, at least for a few seconds. After a couple seconds rdp crashes and I'm unable to connect again until I restart the xrdp service. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  I am trying to configure Flowmotion to work on my Ubuntu Server. At present I use LAMP to serve pages from a Virtualbox installation. I will be moving this to a dedicated server but would like to enable true streaming of videos using this installation. I am only interested in open source streaming for a research project and although I have installed Flowmotion via apt-get I don't know how to start the service so that embedded videos located on the server will stream. Can anybody provide any information regarding this or online resources I may have missed? I have checked the documentation however if appears far too complex. Just clarify I'm running VirtualBox 4.2.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.8 and Ubuntu Server 12.06 64-bit

  Now that Visual Studio 2010 is here with more options and better colors, there are a few things that have changed a little and might confused you a bit.   A domain I want is in the pendingDelete stage according to WHOIS. I have been monitoring it since redemptionPeriod, and it entered into pendingDelete 5 days ago today. After checking a few services (SnapNames, etc), they report it is scheduled to drop on the 11th (7 days, by my calculations). I'm not quite sure what to believe. The domain isn't highly valuable. It is to me and one other company. I can see no backorders placed on the big name sites, so I'm thinking of trying to get it without a backorder service. Any insight as to when it will actually drop?
