  • Obtaining command line arguments in a QT console app

    - by morpheous
The following snippet is from a little console app I wrote using the QT framework. Currently, it does not receive the arguments passed at the CLI. Can anyone spot what I may be doing wrong? int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { //Q_INIT_RESOURCE(application); try { QApplication the_app(argc, argv); utility::option_values ov; QStringList cmdline_args = QCoreApplication::arguments(); //attempt to parse arguments here, but cmdline_args is an empty list :( ov.parse_options(cmdline_args); // Code continues ... } } catch (utility::invalid_option&) { return 1; } return 0; } I am debugging using QtCreator 1.3

  • Ignoring (serious) errors to keep the program alive?

    - by SQuirreL bites
One of the main things I wanted to achieve in my experimental programming language was: When errors occur (Syntax, Name, Type, etc.) keep the program running, no matter how serious or devastating it is. I know that this is probably very bad, but I just wanted something that doesn't kill itself on every error - I find it interesting what happens when a serious error occurs but the program continues. Does this "paradigm" have a name? I mean expect for How bad is it to do the above? Are there programs in use out there that just follow: "Hey, this is a fatal, unexpected error - but you know what? I don't care!"?

  • Possible compiler bug in MSVC12 (VS2013) with designated initializer

    - by diapir
    Using VS2013 Update 2, I've stumbled on some strange error message : // test.c int main(void) { struct foo { int i; float f; }; struct bar { unsigned u; struct foo foo; double d; }; struct foo some_foo = { .i = 1, .f = 2.0 }; struct bar some_bar = { .u = 3, // error C2440 : 'initializing' : cannot convert from 'foo' to 'int' .foo = some_foo, .d = 4.0 }; // Works fine some_bar.foo = some_foo; return 0; } Both GCC and Clang accept it. Am I missing something or does this piece of code exposes a compiler bug ? EDIT : Duplicate: Initializing struct within another struct using designated initializer causes compile error in Visual Studio 2013

Is there a max file upload size that I can change somewhere. I'm uploading pictures from my local desktop of size ~100kb. help!

  • Convert c++ argument to int

    - by happyCoding25
    Hello, I have a small c++ program that needs to get and argument and convert it to an int. Here is my code so far: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main(int argc,int argvx[]) { int i=1; int answer = 23; int temp; // decode arguments if(argc < 2) { printf("You must provide at least one argument\n"); exit(0); } // Convert it to an int here }

  • Actionscript 3.0 platformer game

    - by Jez
I have an flash game with the following code (http://pastie.org/9248528) When I run it, the player just falls and doesn't stop when he hits a platform. I tried debugging it and I had an error with moveCharacter's timer, but I don't know if that is the main problem. I put the player inside the wall and debugged it using breakpoints and it didn't detect that the player was inside the wall, skipping moving it to outside of the wall. If anyone has any ideas on what is wrong with my code then that would be great thanks!

  • Why does the right-shift operator produce a zero instead of a one?

    - by mrt181
Hi, i am teaching myself java and i work through the exercises in Thinking in Java. On page 116, exercise 11, you should right-shift an integer through all its binary positions and display each position with Integer.toBinaryString. public static void main(String[] args) { int i = 8; System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(i)); int maxIterations = Integer.toBinaryString(i).length(); int j; for (j = 1; j < maxIterations; j++) { i >>= 1; System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(i)); } In the solution guide the output looks like this: 1000 1100 1110 1111 When i run this code i get this: 1000 100 10 1 What is going on here. Are the digits cut off? I am using jdk1.6.0_20 64bit. The book uses jdk1.5 32bit.

  • Is my way of doing threads in Android correct?

    - by Charlie
Hi, I'm writing a live wallpaper, and I'm forking off two separate threads in my main wallpaper service. One updates, and the other draws. I was under the impression that once you call thread.start(), it took care of everything for you, but after some trial and error, it seems that if I want my update and draw threads to keep running, I have to manually keep calling their run() methods? In other words, instead of calling start() on both threads and forgetting, I have to manually set up a delayed handler event that calls thread.run() on both the update and draw threads every 16 milliseconds. Is this the correct way of having a long running thread? Also, to kill threads, I'm just setting them to be daemons, then nulling them out. Is this method ok? Most examples I see use some sort of join() / interrupt() in a while loop...I don't understand that one...

  • Segmentation fault when using files C++

    - by Popa Mihai
I am using ubuntu 12.04. I have been trying a few IDE's for simple C++ school projects. However, with codelite, anjuta and kdevelop I encountered a problem: when I am trying to read / write in files I get segmentation fault: core dumped. I am using a basic source: #include<stdio.h> FILE*f=fopen("test.in","r"); FILE*g=fopen("test.out","w"); int main () { int a,b; fscanf(f,"%d %d",&a,&b); fprintf(g,"%d\n",a+b); fclose(f); fclose(g); return 0; } I have to say that programs with stdin/stdout work well. Thank you,

  • Difference between var and Class class in object creation

    - by Divine
    Its a silly question, however shocked to see different behaviors. Learning a lot. Lets say I have two classes below Class A { public void Display() { } } Class B : A { public void Display() { } } Class C : B { public void Display() { } } Class Final { static void Main() { var c = new C(); // B c = new C(); //My doubt is, both of the above gives different results. May I know B c = new C() creates object of B or C? What I understood is, it creates object of B. Then why we say "new C()"? I agree with C c = new C(); But I thought, B b = new C(); creates object of B. Where we use this style? Only when utilizing runtime polymorphism? (Overriding methods)? } }

  • Is there a simpliest way of doing this?

    - by Tom Brito
    Is there a simpler way of implement this? Or a implemented method in JDK or other lib? /** * Convert a byte array to 2-byte-size hexadecimal String. */ public static String to2DigitsHex(byte[] bytes) { String hexData = ""; for (int i = 0; i < bytes.length; i++) { int intV = bytes[i] & 0xFF; // positive int String hexV = Integer.toHexString(intV); if (hexV.length() < 2) { hexV = "0" + hexV; } hexData += hexV; } return hexData; } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(to2DigitsHex(new byte[] {8, 10, 12})); } the output is: "08 0C 0A" (without the spaces)

  • JS - Dynamic div content, but need a fixed div height.

    - by Joey Morani
Hello. I'm using javascript to animate a div collapsing/sliding. The javascript requires the div to have a set height, although the content inside the div is dynamic. How would I go about making it work, as I don't want the div to be any larger than it's meant to. I've set the height of the div like this: <div id="main-div" style="overflow:hidden; height:95px;"> I've tried setting the height to 'auto' but when the div slides open again, it doesn't slide to the correct height. Would I need to calculate the height? Thanks.

  • Is there a font that can't be recognised by an OCR?

    - by user1820564
I am trying to write a document that can only be read by humans. The document content can't be copied. For that purpose, I am converting its pages to pictures and adding them back to a PDF file. The main issue is that any OCR program can get back the whole written text, especially that the page is going to be clear (as opposed to a scanned book) which will increase the OCR accuracy. So, is there a font that can't be recognized by an OCR. Otherwise, is there a technique that will make my document only readable by humans, yet unrecognised by an OCR? (for instance, adding a specific background, etc...) Thank you in advance.

  • gdb + nasm debug info not being created

    - by cpowel2
I am relatively new to assembly language programming and am trying to debug a small .asm file that I wrote in Ubuntu. I am however running into an issue where my symbol table is not being loaded and was looking for some help. I am compiling my program as follows. nasm -f elf -g -F dwarf bs.asm gcc -m32 -g bs.o -o bs which produces the executable bs when I run gdb bs I get a message that says no debugging symbols and when I try to set a break point by b main it says function not defined even though its in the file and I can run it using ./bs I read a couple posts that suggested adding the -F dwarf when assembling but that didn't help if anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciated your input. Thanks in advance

  • include() Why should I not use it?

    - by aliov
I am working through an older php mysql book written in 2003. The author uses the include() function to construct html pages by including header.inc, footer.inc, main.inc files, etc. Now I find out that this is not allowed in the default ini settings, (allow_url_include is set to Off) after I got many warnings from the server. I noticed also that you can use include without the parenthesis. I tried this and it works and I get no error messages or warnings. Are the two different? That is, is include() different from include ?

  • How to create a valid schema in a WSDL that restrict to <|<=|>|>=

    - by wsxedc
This is what I have in my schema section of my WSDL to specify the field has to be comparison operators <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:pattern value="&lt;|&gt;|&lt;=|&gt;=|="/> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> SoapUI complains about this part of the WSDL, I tried to set the value to something with non special characters and the WSDL is valid. So I tried to replace that whole long string to be value=">gt;" and it valid but value="<lt;" is not valid, and value=">" is also not valid. My question is, why does the WSDL validation need > to be double escaped? The main question is, how to provide a valid less than side within the pattern value.

  • How to create a reusable form using COCOA bindings.

    - by Juliano Sott
hi. I want to make a user interface in which the user can edit two objects at the same time. The main window would have a vertical split view and a form on each side of the view. The problem is that the two forms are identical and I don't want to duplicate the view components in the interface builder. I want to create the form one time and add a reference to it in each side of the split view, each one using a different object source. I could use a NSForm, but the form is not a simple grid of outputTexts and inputText. They have a master table, and diverse kinds of inputs types, like combos, in the detail. How do I create the reusable form using the interface builder? Or how can I do it programmatically? Do I have to create a subclass of NSView and add the individual components in the code? Thanks, Juliano

  • How to difference sockaddr_in struct from same subnetwork and different IP/users

    - by user1428926
I am developing a gaming server using the Winsock2 API from Windows, just for now until porting it to Linux. The main problem I have found is that I don't know how to differentiate gaming clients that come from the same router/network. Let´s imagine 2 gamers that are in the same network going to the Internet through the same router IP and port with, for example IP 220.100.100.100 and port 5000, how can my C/C++ server differentiate both TCP connections and know that they are two different gamers? Can I find any difference in the sockaddr_in struct that returns the socket when accept(...) returns ??

  • How I change a variable of a type to another one in C?

    - by drigoSkalWalker
I want to do it: int main () { bla bla bla void *onetype; switch (USER_INPUT_TYPE) { CASE CONVERT_TO_CHAR: convert onetype VOID TO CHAR >>> HOW??? CASE CONVERT_TO_INT: convert onetype VOID TO INT >>> HOW??? LOT OF CASES... } } Yes, I know type casting, but type casting is a 'temporary' change. So, is there any way to accomplish it in C? EDIT : Stop stop stop! Please, see, what are you doing is type casting, I KNOW THIS, you are creating another variable of the desirable type like int i = (int) onetype, I don't want this, I want something else like onetype = (int) onetype, without recreate them, without allocate another variable. Thanks a lot guys!

  • Is there anyway to create live streaming Server using WCF? (see specification below)

    - by Ole Jak
Is there any way to create live streaming Server using WCF? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. I need code examples or OpenSource projects. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope.

  • How do you open a second WPF window without creating a new one.

    - by Daniel
In the program I am trying to build, I have a menu button that opens a second window. The user puts information into the second window, presses the "Done" button, and the information is transfered into the main window. The problem I am having is opening the second window. I have both windows build in xaml files in Visual Studio but I can't find a way to show the second window. Using "Window window = new Window" does not fit my needs because 1) I already have the second window built and 2) I have tried this and I cannot figure out how to add children to the window; there is no window.children nor any grid to put the children into. Thank you in advance!

  • iPodMusicPlayer doesn't send notifications, if it is created in background

Here is code: - (void)initMusicPlayer { musicPlayer = [MPMusicPlayerController iPodMusicPlayer]; NSNotificationCenter *notificationCenter = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter]; [notificationCenter addObserver:self selector:@selector(musicPlayerStateChanged:) name:MPMusicPlayerControllerNowPlayingItemDidChangeNotification object:musicPlayer]; [notificationCenter addObserver:self selector:@selector(musicPlayerStateChanged:) name:MPMusicPlayerControllerPlaybackStateDidChangeNotification object:musicPlayer]; [musicPlayer beginGeneratingPlaybackNotifications]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(initMusicPlayer) withObject:nil]; } Is there some way how to create iPodMusicPlayer in background? Otherwise if it is created on the main thread, it blocks executions for a while.
