  • Wrap words in tags, keep markup

    - by spacevillain
For example I have a string with markup (from html node): hello, this is dog "h<em>e<strong>llo, thi</strong>s i</em><strong>s d</strong>og" What is the most correct way to find some words in it (let's say "hello" and "dog"), wrap them in a span (make a highlight) and save all the markup? Desired output is something like this (notice properly closed tags) <span class="highlight">h<em>e<strong>llo</strong></em></span><strong>,</strong> <em><strong>thi</strong>s<em> i</em><strong>s <span class="highlight"><strong>d</strong>og</span> Looks the same as it should: hello, this is dog

  • I need help understanding how this jQuery filter function works, line-by-line, if possible

    - by user717236
Here is the HTML: <div> <h3>text</h3> </div> <div> <h3>moretext</h3> </div> <div> <h3>123</h3> </div>?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Here is the JS: var rv1_wlength = $("div").filter(function() { return $(this).find("h3").filter(function () { return $(this).text() != "123"; }).length; }); var rv1_wolength = $("div").filter(function() { return $(this).find("h3").filter(function () { return $(this).text() != "123"; }); }); var rv2 = $("div").find("h3").filter(function() { return $(this).text() != "123"; }); alert(rv1_wlength.text()); // text // moretext alert(rv1_wolength.text()); // text // moretext // 123 alert(rv2.text());? // textmoretext I don't understand why the first two methods print the elements on each line, whereas the second method concatenates them. "rv2" is a jQuery object. Then, what are the first two (rv1_wlength and rv1_wolength)? Furthermore, I don't understand why the inclusion of the length property makes all the difference in filtering the elements. The second method does nothing, since it returns all the elements. The first method, with the only change being the addition of the length property, correctly filters the elements. I would very much like a line-by-line explanation. I would sincerely appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

  • Terminate function on System.in .. possible?

    - by Ronald
I am currently working on a project where I have to make an agent to interact with a server. Each 50ms, the server will receive the last thing I outputted to System.out and send me a new set of lines as a 'state' through the System.in printstream to analyze and send my next message to System.out. Also, if the server receives multiple outputs from me, it only regards the most recent one. .. As for my question: My program originally constructed a tree and then analyzed each leaf node to see which would be optimal, and then waited around for the next input, but I can recursively do a deeper tree search that would make my output 'better' (and again and again to keep returning a better result). Using this and the fact that if the server receives multiple outputs, it only takes the most recent one, I could do each level, print my result and start the next level. But here comes my problem... I can't be stuck in some complex algorithm while I am supposed to receiving the next input as I will then miss it. So I was wondering if there is a way to cancel anything else I am doing when I receive something via System.in and then go back to the beginning of the function and start the search again with the new set of input (and rinse and repeat..) I hope this all makes sense, Thank ye all

  • How atomic *should* I make an Ajax form?

    - by b. e. hollenbeck
I have some web forms that I'm bringing over with AJAX, and as I was dealing with the database on the back end, I thought that it might be easier to just handle each input on the form atomically with AJAX, saving the form in 'real time' as the user edits it. The forms are ~20 fields of administrative settings. Would this create massive overhead with the app, cause it to be error-prone, or is this a feasible idea? Of course, contingent operations (like a checkbox that then requires a text entry) would be held until the textbox gained and lost focus. Comments?

  • IE 8 html parsing error message.

    - by user48408
I'm experiencing the problem outlined in this kb article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927917 . Sorry I can't hyperlink cos i don't have enough points! "This problem occurs because a child container HTML element contains script that tries to modify the parent container element of the child container. The script tries to modify the parent container element by using either the innerHTML method or the appendChild method." The problem I'm having diagnosing the source of my problem is 2 fold: 1) This is only happening on some client machines (All are running IE8) and not others. How/Why only some? 2) I don't have any scripts which modify the innerHTML or call appendChild on any dom elements. I do have server side code which modify properties on asp .net server controls. (Essentially all thats happening is a panel control with some more controls is being made visbile or invisible on a button click), would these in turn then set the innerHTML property of the client rendered control(?)

  • jQuery: Moving window (or FIFO) type DIV?

    - by Legend
I have been trying to get this effect for a couple of hours now and I must admit I am failing at it. I am trying to construct a DIV that accepts a particular number of items (say 5), when the 6th item is added, the first item that was aded should be removed (first-in-first-out). The feel should have some kind of a fadeIn and fadeOut. Here's what I managed to write till now: ... //Create a ul element with id 'ulele' and add it to a div ... //Do an ajax call and when an element arrives Hash = ComputeHash(message) if(!$("#" + Hash).exists()) { var element = $("<li></li>").html(message).attr('id', Hash).prependTo("#ulele"); $("#" + Hash).hide().delay(10000 - 1000 * messageNumber).show("slow"); _this.prune("#ulele"); } ... prune: function(divid) { $("#" + divid).children().each( function(i, elemLi) { if(i >= maxMessages) $(this).delay(10000).hide("slow").delay(10000).remove(); } ); } I've tried a couple of variations but the final effect I am getting is not that of a FIFO. The elements disappear instantaneously despite the delay and hide("slow") calls. Anyone has a more straightforward approach?

  • JQuery: $(window).resize() doesn't work on Load

    - by Nicki
I noticed that the following JQuery code doesn't run on the page load, but instead, it only runs after the page loads and I change the size of my browser window. $(window).resize(function() { ... // dynamically set the height of some div based on the browser viewpoint height }); Question: How do I get the code above to also run when the page loads?

  • jQuery AJAX requests with Rails 3

    - by elsurudo
I'm trying to do a manual jQuery AJAX request the following way: $("#user_plan_id").change(function() { $("#plan_container").load('/plans/' + this.value); }); I have the "rails.js" file included in my header, and a "<%= csrf_meta_tag %". I see from my log that the request IS getting to the server (although without the authenticity token... does rails.js even do this?), but the response is a 302 (Found) rather than 200, and no data actually gets rendered. Any ideas?

  • Inereritance of clousure objects and overriding of methods

    - by bobikk
    I need to extend a class, which is encapsulated in a closure. This base class is following: var PageController = (function(){ // private static variable var _current_view; return function(request, new_view) { ... // priveleged public function, which has access to the _current_view this.execute = function() { alert("PageController::execute"); } } })();` Inheritance is realised using the following function: function extend(subClass, superClass){ var F = function(){ }; F.prototype = superClass.prototype; subClass.prototype = new F(); subClass.prototype.constructor = subClass; subClass.superclass = superClass.prototype; StartController.cache = ''; if (superClass.prototype.constructor == Object.prototype.constructor) { superClass.prototype.constructor = superClass; } } I subclass the PageController: var StartController = function(request){ // calling the constructor of the super class StartController.superclass.constructor.call(this, request, 'start-view'); } // extending the objects extend(StartController, PageController); // overriding the PageController::execute StartController.prototype.execute = function() { alert('StartController::execute'); } Inheritance is working. I can call every PageController's method from StartController's instance. However, method overriding doesn't work: var startCont = new StartController(); startCont.execute(); alerts "PageController::execute". How should I override this method?

  • How do I flatten an associative array into an array with only values in PHP?

    - by aalaap
I have an array that has keys and values. For eg: Array ( [name] => aalaap [age] => 29 [location] => mumbai ) I want to convert the keys from this into values, but I want the values to apear right after the keys. For eg: Array ( [0] => name [1] => aalaap [2] => age [3] => 29 [4] => location [5] => mumbai ) I can easily write an iteration function that will do this... for eg: array_flatten($arr) { foreach ($arr as $arrkey => $arrval) { $arr_new[] = $arrkey; $arr_new[] = $arrval; } return $arr_new; } ...but I'm trying to find out if there's any way this can be accomplished using array_combine, array_keys, array_values and/or array_merge, preferably in one, so i don't need to use a custom function. Is there?

  • Possible to capture all events in a web browser?

    - by David
I am working on a pet project and am at the research stage. Quick summary I am trying to intercept all form submits, onclick, and every single keydown. My library of choice is either jquery, or jquery + prototypejs. I figure I can batch up the events into a queue/stack and send it back to the server in time interval batches to keep performance relatively stable. Concerns Form submits and change's would be relatively simple.. Something like $("form :inputs").bind("change", function() { ... record event... }); But how to ensure I get precedence over the applications handlers as I have a habit of putting return false on a lot of my form handlers when there is a validation issue. As I understand it, that effectively stops the event in its tracks. My project For my smaller remote clients I will put their products onto a VPS or run it in my home data center. Currently I use a basic authentication system, given a username/password they see the website and then hopefully send me somewhat sane notes on what is broken or should be tweaked. As a better solution, I've written a simple proxy web server that does the above but allows me to have one DNS entry and then depending on credentials it makes an internal request relaying headers and re-writing URLS as needed. Every single html/text or application/* request is compressed and shoved into a sqlite table so I can partially replay what they've done. Now I am shifting to the frontend and would like to capture clicks, keydown's, and submits on everything on the page.

  • CSS Z-Index with Gradient Background

    - by Jona
    I'm making a small webpage where the I would like the top banner with some text to remain on top, as such: HTML: <div id = "topBanner"> <h1>Some Text</h1> </div> CSS: #topBanner{ position:fixed; background-color: #CCCCCC; width: 100%; height:200px; top:0; left:0; z-index:900; background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, rgba(204,204,204,0.65) 0%, rgba(204,204,204,0.44) 32%, rgba(204,204,204,0.12) 82%, rgba(204,204,204,0) 100%); /* FF3.6+ */ background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%,rgba(204,204,204,0.65)), color-stop(32%,rgba(204,204,204,0.44)), color-stop(82%,rgba(204,204,204,0.12)), color-stop(100%,rgba(204,204,204,0))); /* Chrome,Safari4+ */ background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgba(204,204,204,0.65) 0%,rgba(204,204,204,0.44) 32%,rgba(204,204,204,0.12) 82%,rgba(204,204,204,0) 100%); /* Chrome10+,Safari5.1+ */ background: -o-linear-gradient(top, rgba(204,204,204,0.65) 0%,rgba(204,204,204,0.44) 32%,rgba(204,204,204,0.12) 82%,rgba(204,204,204,0) 100%); /* Opera 11.10+ */ background: -ms-linear-gradient(top, rgba(204,204,204,0.65) 0%,rgba(204,204,204,0.44) 32%,rgba(204,204,204,0.12) 82%,rgba(204,204,204,0) 100%); /* IE10+ */ background: linear-gradient(to bottom, rgba(204,204,204,0.65) 0%,rgba(204,204,204,0.44) 32%,rgba(204,204,204,0.12) 82%,rgba(204,204,204,0) 100%); /* W3C */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#a6cccccc', endColorstr='#00cccccc',GradientType=0 ); /* IE6-9 */ } /*WebPage Header*/ h1{ font-size:3em; color:blue; text-shadow:#CCCCCC 2px 2px 2px, #000 0 -1px 2px; position: absolute; width: 570px; left:50%; right:50%; line-height:20px; margin-left: -285px; z-index:999; } The z-index works fine, except that because I'm using a gradient any time I scroll down the elements behind the banner are still visible, albeit somewhat transparent. Is there any way to make them total invisible? i.e., what I'm trying to do is make it as though the banner is a solid color, even though it's a gradient. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • jQuery Color **Swatch** Picker

    - by Alan Storm
Has anyone coded up a jQuery query color picker that lets you pick colors from a predetermined list of colors? Something like a product color picker on an Ecommerce site. Most of the searching I've done reveals a lot of general purpose, pick-any-color-in-the-rgb-spectrum, but few options for picking specific colors.

  • Caller property of JS for "foo = function()" style of coding

    - by arvind
I want to use the property of "caller" for a function which is defined here It works fine for this style of function declaration function g() { alert(g.caller.name) // f } function f() { alert(f.caller.name) // undefined g() } f() JSfiddle for this But then my function declaration is something like g = function() { alert(g.caller.name) // expected f, getting undefined } f = function() { alert("calling f") alert(f.caller.name) // undefined g() } f() and I am getting undefined (basically not getting anything) JSfiddle for this Is there any way that I can use the caller property without having to rewrite my code? Also, I hope I have not made any mistakes in usage and function declaration since I am quite new to using JS.
