• ASP.NET WebMethod Returns JSON wrapped in quotes

  Hi, I have an asp.net page with a WebMethod on it to pass JSON back to my javascript. Bellow is the web method: [WebMethod] public static string getData(Dictionary<string, string> d) { string response = "{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }"; return response; } When this is returned to the client it is formatted as follows: { \"d\": \"{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }\" } The problem is the double quotes wrapping everything under 'd'. Is there something I've missed in the web method or some other means of returning the data without the quotes? I don't really want to be stripping it out on the client everytime. Also I've seen other articles where this doesn't happen. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

  Hi, I do not understand how following code works. Specifically, I do not understand using of "return i<3". I would expect return i IF its < than 3. I always though that return just returns value. I could not even find what syntax is it. Second question, it seems to me like using anonymous method (delegate(int i)) but could be possible to write it with normal delegate pointing to method elsewere? • WLI domain with 3 servers - issues on JPD process startup

  Hi there. I'm currently working on a clustered WLI environment which comprehends 3 servers: 1 admin server ("AdminServer") and 2 managed servers ("mn1" and "mn2") grouped as a cluster, as follows: Architecture diagram: http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4112/clusterdiagram.jpg I've developed a JPD process to execute some scheduled tasks, invoked using a Message Broker. I've deployed this project into a single-server WLI domain (with AdminServer only) and it works as expected: the JPD process is invoked (I've configured a Timer Event Generator instance to start it up). Message broker: http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/1443/wlimessagebroker.jpg Timer event generator: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7358/wlitimereventgenerator.jpg In order to achieve fail-over and load-balancing capabilities, I'm currently trying to deploy this JPD process into this clustered WLI environment. Although, I'm having some issues with this, as I cannot get it to work properly, even if it still works. However, I don't see any output coming out neither at AdminServer console or mn1 console. • Why is the proper "respond_to" format not getting called?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of an odd issue. Really too odd to type out, but here goes. Basically I have a controller that refuses to "respond_to" using javascript unless I assign my "chart.generate_xml" to a variable before the "respond_to" block like so: @xml = @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) respond_to do |format| format.html format.js{ render :update do |page| page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @xml #page.insert_html :bottom, "chart-div", @chart.generate_xml(@begin_date,@end_date,1.hour) end } If I remove the upper "@xml= …" portion and go with the lower "page.insert", the "format.js" section doesn't get called. And if I try to force the format with "request.format = :js", I get the javascript returned as text. I'm not doing anything special here in that method call, so I'm not sure why it would choose to respond any differently. FWIW, the method that triggers this controller action is using JS to do so, so I'm confused as to why "format.js" isn't always getting called. Thoughts? Best.

• Which Java modules get Spring Security

  I have a classic Java SOA application, with a web UI module, web services module, a service module (Java API), a domain module and a persistence module. In a sense, each of these modules has their own public API. My understanding of Spring Security is that I can use web filters to handle the security of the web gui and web services, and method level security (via annotations) for the service module. My question is this: should I bother to add method level security to the domain module and the persistence module or is that considered overkill?

  I was playing with Visual Studio and templates. Is the code violating any standards ? As far as I know, the runtime should parse the app.config file before looking for an assembly in the client app directory. The unhandled exception (wrapped for readability) is: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Users\djpiter\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\70536\Chapter9\bin\Debug\AssemblyPrivate.exe' or one of its dependencies.   I'm trying to work with a non-editable JTextArea added to a JScrollPane. I want a line to be highlighted when the user clicks on that specific line.   I have a question about memory management when using the addObjectsFromArray method. Basically, I have 2 arrays defined in the appDelegate. I need these 2 arrays for the duration of my application's runtime. I therefore release them in my appDelegate's dealloc method. When I go to use these two arrays in a class, I want one array to store the values from the other, so that the other can have it's contents removed, but still stick around for use. Something like this: [appDelegate.arrayTwo addObjectsFromArray:appDelegate.arrayOne]; [appDelegate.arrayOne removeAllObjects]; I'm getting the compiler error: EXC_BAD_ACCESS because of a pointer issue? retaining issue?   I'm working on a program which uses the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break() method to allow the user to set a breakpoint from the command-line. This has worked fine for many weeks now. However, when I was working on fixing a unit test today, I tried to use the debug switch from the command-line, and it didn't work. Here's what I've tried: I've confirmed that the Debug() method is really being called (by putting a System.Console.WriteLine() after it) I've confirmed that the build is still in Debug I've done a clean build I've restarted Product Studio A quick Google search didn't reveal anything, and the API documentation for .Net doesn't mention anything about this function not performing correctly. So... any ideas?

• WCF RIA Services v1.0 Timeouts

  I have a RIA service methods which return quite a large amount of (binary) data to my silverlight application. The methods themselves (database access etc) complete quickly, but since I upgraded to v1.0 from the RC2 I've been experiencing timeouts, even when I limit the data returned to the smallest objects. Debug shows the method returning, then 20-30 seconds later the silverlight "method complete" event will fire. There is not enough data to cause that much lag. Could anyone suggest why this might be? I've been unable to find any breaking changes documentation specific to the RC2 = 1.0 upgrade. Trying to eliminate any other possible causes also, but this is literally a case of worked before the install, doesn't work now! (also upgraded silverlight 4 tools for vs).
