  • WCF webHttpBinding with jQuery AJAX - removing/working around same origin policy

    So I'm trying to create a C# WCF REST service that is called by jQuery. I've discovered that jQuery requires that AJAX calls are made under the same origin policy. I have a few questions for how I might proceed. I am already aware of; 1. The hacky solution of JSONP with a server callback 2. The way too much server overhead of having a cross-domain proxy. 3. Using Flash in the browser to make the call and setting up crossdomain.xml at my WCF server root. I'd rather not use these because; 1. I don't want to use JSON, or at least I don't want to be restricted to using it 2. I would like to separate the server that serves static pages from the one that serves application state. 3. Flash in this day in age is out of the question. What I'm thinking: is there anything like Flash's crossdomain.xml file that works for jQuery? Is this "same-origin" policy a part of jQuery or is it a restriction in specific browsers? If it's just a part of jQuery, maybe I'll try digging in the code to work around it.

    I have the following code in which the code tries to create a bubble chart with pie charts as the bubbles. As in this version colour themes are used to create a different colour in each pie chart (bulbble) in the function part I have the problem that it works depending on the paths to the colour paletts. Is there an easy way to make the function in a way that it works independently of those paths either by coding a colour for each pie chart segment or by using standardize paths (probably not possible, not preferable).     When I contact a web service using a Java HttpUrlConnection it just returns a 400 Bad Request (IOException). How do I get the XML information that the server is returning; it does not appear to be in the getErrorStream of the connection nor is it in any of the exception information.   • How to test crontab entry?

    I have an entry in my crontab that looks like this: 0 3 * * * pg_dump mydb | gzip > ~/backup/db/$(date +%Y-%m-%d).psql.gz That script works perfectly when I execute it from the shell, but it doesn't seem to be running every night. I'm assuming there's something wrong with the permissions, maybe crontab is running under a different user or something. How can I debug this? I'm a shared hosting environment (WebFaction).

    I'm currently building my first Firefox extension, and am having a little difficulty with one piece of functionality. I'd like to open a new browser tab in response to a button click on the toolbar. The new tab should contain the contents of a webpage, together with some extra buttons.   • Why do I get an error while trying to set the content of a tabspec in android?

I don't understand what the problem is because R.layout.unit_data refers to a layout file in my resource directory (res/layout/unit_data.xml) as far as I can tell unit_data.xml is well formed and I've even referenced it successfully in another activity class UnitData extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.unit_data); Toast.makeText(this, "Hi from UnitData.onCreate", 5); } } which does not give an error and renders the layout just fine. What's going on? Why can't I reference this layout when creating a tab?

    I have returned a cursor string but it contains a delimiter. The delimiter is . I have the string quest.setText(String.valueOf(c.getString(1)));I want to turn the into a new line. What is the best method to achieve this task in android. I understand there is a way to get the delimeter. I want this to achieved for each record. I can itterate through record like so.
