• Proxmox: VMs and different public IPs

  I have a server which has two NICs and both are directly connected to internet. I have five different public IP addresses available for the VMs. The host machine (Proxmox) doesn't need to use any (it'll use a private IP and that's all) but will have internet connection. I've gone through the Proxmox documentation and I'm not able to understand the big picture to set up the right network configuration for my needs. In short, what I have is: One server (Proxmox, host machine) On that server, 5 VMs are created 5 public IP addresses available (one for each VM), let's say: 80.123.21.1, 80.123.21.2, 80.123.21.3, 80.123.21.4, 80.123.21.5 What I have now for the host is the following: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual auto eth1 iface eth1 inet manual auto vmbr0 iface vmbr0 inet static address 192.168.1.101 netmask 255.255.255.0 bridge_ports eth0 bridge_stp off bridge_fd 0 auto vmbr1 iface vmbr1 inet manual It can be reached from the internal network, so that's OK. It has internet connection, which is also OK. vmbr1 is going to be used by the VMs. Each VM will have its own IP on his network interfaces configuration file. For some reason, VMs will not have internet and they won't be able to have public IP address. If I use NAT, it will work correctly, but they will not use the public allocated IP addresses for them. • Routing / binding 128 to one server

  I have a Ubuntu server with 128 ip's (static external ips 86.xx.xx.16), and I want to crawl pages thru different ip's. The gateway is xx.xxx.xxx.1, the main ip is xx.xxx.xxx.16, and the other 128 ip's are xx.xxx.xxx.129/255. I tried this configuration in /etc/network/interfaces but I doesn't work. It work if I remove the gateway for the aliases eth0:0 and eth0:1. • How can I make my eth0 connection default on startup?

  I'm running kubuntu 9.10 and every time I log in auto eth0 is used instead of my custom connection called "batnet". I have batnet set to automatically connect, but despite this it is ignored and the default auto eth0 is used instead. This would be fine IF I could somehow figure out how to define a static ip for auto eth0. I would prefer to just make the 'batnet' connection default. How can I do this?

  I'm unsuccessfully trying to get Wake on Lan to work with my local server (IP Address : 192.168.0.2, distro Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS) which has a Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E ethernet card. The computer sending the WOL is a Macbook Pro which is connected on the same network. Yet the server fails to start. • Comparing the Performance of Visual Studio's Web Reference to a Custom Class

  As developers, we all make assumptions when programming. Perhaps the biggest assumption we make is that those libraries and tools that ship with the .NET Framework are the best way to accomplish a given task. For example, most developers assume that using ASP.NET's Membership system is the best way to manage user accounts in a website (rather than rolling your own user account store). Similarly, creating a Web Reference to communicate with a web service generates markup that auto-creates a proxy class, which handles the low-level details of invoking the web service, serializing parameters, and so on. Recently a client made us question one of our fundamental assumptions about the .NET Framework and Web Services by asking, "Why should we use proxy class created by Visual Studio to connect to a web service?" In this particular project we were calling a web service to retrieve data, which was then sorted, formatted slightly and displayed in a web page. The client hypothesized that it would be more efficient to invoke the web service directly via the HttpWebRequest class, retrieve the XML output, populate an XmlDocument object, then use XSLT to output the result to HTML. Surely that would be faster than using Visual Studio's auto-generated proxy class, right? Similarly, creating a Web Reference to communicate with a web service generates markup that auto-creates a proxy class, which handles the low-level details of invoking the web service, serializing parameters, and so on. Recently a client made us question one of our fundamental assumptions about the .NET Framework and Web Services by asking, "Why should we use proxy class created by Visual Studio to connect to a web service?" In this particular project we were calling a web service to retrieve data, which was then sorted, formatted slightly and displayed in a web page. The client hypothesized that it would be more efficient to invoke the web service directly via the HttpWebRequest class, retrieve the XML output, populate an XmlDocument object, then use XSLT to output the result to HTML. Surely that would be faster than using Visual Studio's auto-generated proxy class, right? • Install VirtualBox Guest Additions "Feisty Fawn"

  I am trying to install the virtualbox guest additions into a feisty fawn (7.04) VM. The problem I am running into is that when I Click install guest additions, or place the iso in the drive manually, the disk never shows up in the machine. I even manually mounted and went to the mounted directory and it was empty. When using the file browser, doubling clicking on the cdrom yields Unable to mount the selected volume. mount: special device /dev/hdc does not exist. Secondly, I tried installing via repository... but according to the system, I have no internet connection. But, I can browse the web using firefox just fine (in the guest).   I have a company website written in vb.net. There are 5 master pages. I recently began utilizing a forum application, also asp.net 4.0, but this one is written in C#. My forum directory is domain.com/knowledgebase/. Is there any possible way to take one of my vb.net master pages and somehow integrate into the /knowledgebase/ directory? • preseeded installation keeps asking for confirmation while creating RAID-Partitions on certain hardware-platform

  I am aware of the partman-md/confirm_nooverwrite thing, that was the solution to most of this problems in the past. The thing is, that the preseed-file works for almost all hardware-platforms I tested, but only for one (Primergy MX130) it keeps asking for confirmation, before writing the partition-layout to the disks. All machines I tested are running with two SATA Disks, nothing special. I'm not really sure, what information could be needed in order to investigate the cause of this behaviour, but I would of course be willing to provide more information, if someone has an idea.   Excuse me first for my broken English I have 3 monitors on two Nvidia GT220. Unity 2D works fine after using the proprietary drivers. But no way to use compiz effects. • NetworkOnMainThreadException while using AsyncTask

  Im making an app that uses the internet to retrive information. I get an NetworkOnMainThreadException as i tried to run it on 3.0 and above and have therefore tried to set it up using AsyncTask, but it still gives the exception and i don't know what is wrong. Oddly enough i read on this thread Android NetworkOnMainThreadException inside of AsyncTask that if you just removes the android:targetSdkVersion="10" statement from the manifest file it will be able to run. This works but i don't find it as the right solution to solve the problem this way. So if anyone can tell me what im doing wrong with the AsyncTask i will really appriciate it. Also if there is anybody that knows why removing the statement in the manifest makes it work, im really interested in that also. And the situation is I am loading the ListView properly.But while loading ListView I am disabling some button in the ListView by checking one parameter.   While putting together some examples of the Solaris 11 Automated Installer (AI), I managed to really mess up my system, to the point where AI was completely unusable. This was my fault as a combination of unfortunate incidents left some remnants that were causing problems, so I tried to clean things up. Unsuccessfully. Perhaps that was a bad idea (OK, it was a terrible idea), but this is Solaris 11 and there are a few more tricks in the sysadmin toolbox.   I have seen some horrible code in my time including people virtually duplicating the code in comments // add 4 to x x+=4; // for each i in 0 to 9 for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { // multiply x by i x *= i; } Taking this concept further, I'm curious whether prose to code compilers exist. Is there a valid use case for English prose to code? Do compilers exist that do this? The distinction between this and auto generated code, is that auto generated code is generally always a subset of a project. Can we have complete projects auto generated from english prose? I realise that this might overlap with the concept of declarative languages.

  I have an eth0 and eth1, eth0 has dynamic ip and on eth1 i setup static ip: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.10.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway 10.10.0.1 ` and then i setup the "isc-dhcp-server" with the fowling command: INTERFACES="eth1" Finally... I went to this one "dhcpd.conf", with the fowling comand: default-lease-time 650; max-lease-time 79520; option subnet-mask 255.0.0.0; option broadcast-address 10.10.0.255; option routers 10.10.0.2; subnet 10.10.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 { range 10.10.0.10 10.10.0.250; } When I try to "sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server start", I get "start: Job failed to start" Anyone knows whats wrong? :/

• /etc/network/interfaces doesn't always take affect

  For some reason my eth0 does not have internet on reboot sometimes. I am using a static ip. I can ping my gateway, but I am unable to ping dns servers, or anything out of my network. It seems that when my internet does work(Usually but just restarting enough times), my /etc/resolv.conf has a nameserver in it. It is empty when I have no internet access. I believe something is overwriting my interfaces settings sometimes on boot. Any help would be appreciated. • Triggering an action when a specific volume is connected

  I have a USB key that contains my keepass2 password database and I'd like to perform some actions when it is plugged into my computer, namely: Auto-mount it to some specific location When the mounting is done properly, launching keepass2 on the password database file Simple tasks I guess, but I can't find how to do that. I'm using Ubuntu 12.10, and it auto-mounts the device as a "media usb-key" and tries to open the images on it (even though there are none). What is the best way to do that and to disable the ubuntu auto-mounting (so it doesn't conflict) ?
