  I tested my Xamarin.Forms app on iOS and Android and found this difference when I change the orientation of the mobile device: On iOS, the app keeps the current page On Android, the app seems to restart using the default page (or probably pop all pages except the first one). Since I've never seen this behavior in another Android app, I'd like to disable it. Moreover, I don't think that this behavior is Android default. Which property do I need to set the make the Android target behave as the iOS target?

  How can I change the program a file is opened with by default (or at least add that program in the list of programs from Open With... ) using C# or VB.NET ? What I mean is, I would like to have programs with the extension abc open by default by the program abc.exe. Or, have the program abc.exe in the list of programs that will be shown in the context menu on the "Open With" option, for files with extension "xls".

  Created a UITextField for "Postal Code/ZIP" field with a keyboardType of UIKeyboardTypeDefault. I would like to use the default keyboard but want the numbers & symbols to be shown by default as apposed to letters. Apple does this when you are entering addresses in the Contacts.app. Anyone know how to get this accomplished?

I have used default values for all of the other parameters, but from my understanding bool can only be initialized to true or false. Since both of those cases have meaning in the class, how should I handle checking for change from a default value?

• Spring 3 Controller Exception handler implementation problems

  I was hoping to implement a single "ExceptionController" to handle exceptions that are thrown in execution of my other controllers' methods. I hadn't specified any HandlerExceptionResolver in my application context so according to the API documentation the AnnotationMethodHandlerExceptionResolver should be started. Verified as such in the source. So I am curious to know why the following isn't working. @Controller public class ExceptionController { @ExceptionHandler(NullPointerException.class) public ModelAndView handleNullPointerException(NullPointerException ex) { // Do some stuff log.error(logging stuff) return myModelAndView; } } @Controller public class AnotherController { @RequestMapping(value="/nullpointerpath") public String throwNullPointer() { throw new NullPointerException(); } } I see in the debug logs that the three default exception handlers are asked for handling of the exception, but nothing is done and I see "DispatcherServlet - Could not complete request". Followed by the user being displayed the stacktrace and a 500 Internal error.

• best practice for Jquery plugin implementation and resource locations

  This is probably a very basic question, but I seem to have issues plugging in jquery plug-ins. The issue seems to be around the location of the script, css and images and ensuring the css has the correct url to the images. The standard plug-in has the following folder structure (eg : JPicker) js css images My project is asp.net mvc so I have the default: scripts images content So, I try to split the jquery plugin to the appropriate folders (not sure if this is the best way?). Then I try to correct the references to images (background urls) in the css. I believe the url is relative to the page that is implementing the css file, not the location of the css file itself. Anyway, when I try the above, the plugins don't seem to work. I believe the issue lies with the images not being found. The jquery code runs without errors, so I assume that's not the problem. Any help/advice much appreciated

• Objective-C : Fowler–Noll–Vo (FNV) Hash implementation

  Hi ! I have a HTTP connector in my iPhone project and queries must have a parameter set from the username using the Fowler–Noll–Vo (FNV) Hash. I have a Java implementation working at this time, this is the code : long fnv_prime = 0x811C9DC5; long hash = 0; for(int i = 0; i < str.length(); i++) { hash *= fnv_prime; hash ^= str.charAt(i); } Now on the iPhone side, I did this : int64_t fnv_prime = 0x811C9DC5; int64_T hash = 0; for (int i=0; i < [myString length]; i++) { hash *= fnv_prime; hash ^= [myString characterAtIndex:i]; } This script doesn't give me the same result has the Java one. In first loop, I get this : hash = 0 hash = 100 (first letter is "d") hash = 1865261300 (for hash = 100 and fnv_prime = -2128831035 like in Java) Do someone see something I'm missing ?   I'm looking for some pointers on implementing Custom Events in VB.NET (Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5). I know that "regular" (non-custom) Events are actually Delegates, so I was thinking of using Delegates when implementing a Custom Event. On the other hand, Andrew Troelsen's "Pro VB 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform" book uses Collection types in all his Custom Events examples, and Microsoft's sample codes match that line of thought. So my question is: what considerations should I have when choosing one design over the other? What are the pros and cons for each design? Which of these resembles the inner-implementation of "regular" events? Below is a sample code demonstrating the two designs. • iPhone contacts app styled indexed table view implementation

  My Requirement: I have this straight forward requirement of listing names of people in alphabetical order in a Indexed table view with index titles being the starting letter of alphabets (additionally a search icon at the top and # to display misc values which start with a number and other special characters). What I have done so far: 1. I am using core data for storage and "last_name" is modelled as a String property in the Contacts entity 2.I am using a NSFetchedResultsController to display the sorted indexed table view. Issues accomplishing my requirement: 1. First up, I couldn't get the section index titles to be the first letter of alphabets. What I have tried: 1.   I am implementing a simple RoR webpage that collect emails from visitors and store them as objects. I'm using it as a mini-project to try RoR and BDD. I can think of 3 features for Cucumber: 1. User submits a valid email address 2. User submits an existing email address 3. User submits an invalid email My question is, for scenarios 2 and 3, is it better to handle this via the controller? or as methods in a class? Perhaps something that throws errors if an instance is instantiated in sceanrio 2 or 3? Implementation is below, love to hear some code reviews in addition to answers to questions above. Thanks! • Request-local storage in ASP.NET (accessible to the code from IHttpModule implementation)

  I need to have some object hanging around between two events I'm interested in: PreRequestHandlerExecute (where I create an instance of my object and want to save it) and PostRequestHandlerExecute (where I want to get to the object). After the second event the object is not needed for my purposes and should be discarded either by storage or my explicit action. So the ideal context where my object should be stored is per request (with guaranteed no sharing issues when different threads are serving requests... or processes/servers :) ) Take into account that actual implementation I can do is being made from a HttpModule and is supposed to be a pluggable solution for already written web apps (so the option to provide some state using static/instance variables in Global.asax doesn't look good - I will have to modify Global.asax on every web application). Cache seems to be too broad for this use. I tried to see whether httpContext.Application (of type HttpApplicationState) is good for me or not, but cannot get whether it is exactly per HttpApplication instance or not (AFAIK you can have several instances of HttpApplications used on different threads and therefore serving several requests simultaneously - then using storage shared between threads will not work correctly; otherwise I would use it because one HttpApplication instance serves exactly one request at a time). Something could be done with storing state on the HttpModule instances if I know for sure that it's exactly bound 1-to-1 with every HttpApplication instance running (but again I need a proof that HttpApplication instance is 1-to-1 with my HttpModule's instance). Any valuable and reputable links on these topics are much appreciated... Would be great to find something particularly well-suited for per request situation (because otherwise I may end up with something ulgy... probably either some 'broader' scoped storage and some hacks to have different keys in the storage for different requests, OR using a thread-local thing and in this way commit to the theory that IIS/ASP.NET will not ever serve first event from one thread and the second event from the other thread and so on)

• How to deserialize implementation classes in OSGi

  In an eRCP OSGi based application the user can push a button and go to a lock screen similar to that of Windows or Mac OS X. When this happens, the current state of the application is serialized to a file and control is handed over to the lock screen. In this mobile application memory is very tight, so we need to get rid of the original view/controller when the lock screen comes up. This works fine and we end up with a binary serialized file. Once the user logs back in, the file is read in again and the original state of the application restored. This works fine as well, except when the controller that was serialized contained a reference to an object which comes from a different bundle. In my concrete case the original controller (from bundle A) can call a web service and gets a result back. Nothing fancy, just some Strings and Numbers in a simple value holder class. However the controller only sees this as a Result interface; the actual runtime object (ResultImpl) is defined and created in a different bundle (bundle B, the webservice client implementation) and returned via a service call. When the deserialization now tries to thaw the controller from the file, it throws a ClassNotFound exception, complaining about not being able to deserialize the result object, because deserialization is called from bundle A, which cannot see the ResultImpl class from bundle B. Any ideas on how to work around that? The only thing I could come up with is to clone all the individual values into another object, defined in the controller's bundle, but this seems like quite a hassle.
