  I have followed the guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qbpxKRb-94 But my situation differs with respect to there being no AD (Active Directory) setup. When I try to connect I get this in the server event log: "The user xx connected from x.x.x.x but failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The account does not have permission to dial in." Is there a way to enable this without AD?

  I have a user that has rights to change permissions within a certain folder on a Windows Server 2003 network share. Although I grant this person the rights to change permission and ownership this person cannot change any permissions. The network share is also set to allow everyone full control. (I understand it is bad practice yet this is how it was first configured) Is there any reason why this domain user cannot modify permissions on the folder and files they create?

  I have permission to attached a mailbox to my profile. This is a mailbox I share and manage with other people. When we send from this address, we would like to have the message show up in this mailbox's sent items folder. The current behavior is that the message goes to our primary account's sent items. I'm using Outlook 2007 but others are using Outlook 2003. This is in an Exchange 2007 environment.

• How to append to a file as sudo?

  I want to do: echo "something" >> /etc/config_file But, since only the root user has write permission to this file, I can't do that. But this: sudo echo "something" >> /etc/config_file also doesn't work. Is there any way to append to a file in that situation without having to first open it with a sudo'd editor and then appending the new content by hand?

  I've installed a CMS on a shared host running Apache, now when I was deleting the root directory with FTP, some folders left with a "Permission denied" error and I can't change their attributes. the best explanation I've got is that the CMS installer has placed the files and has assigned its ownership to the Apache server instead of my user name. (i don't know it can be done) Ijust haven't use the uninstaller because I've lost my admin password - -" so how to delete those folders ?

  My exim4 don't send any message. The logs says 2011-03-09 15:59:57 1PxKrl-00038i-BT malware acl condition: clamd: ClamAV returned /var/spool/exim4/scan/1PxKrl-00038i-BT: lstat() failed: Permission denied. ERROR I supose that clamav (running clamd) does'nt have access rights on the mentioned file, but clamav is in the same group as Debian-exim (running exim4). Even changing the folder permissions to a+rwx has no effect. Any idea where to look for failure reason ?

  I'm mounting a windows share as follows: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.49/public -o users,username=name,dom=domain,password=pword /mnt/nas Then I'm trying to create a simple file with some basic text: touch /mnt/nas/me.txt And get an error, however, the file is created (contains 0B of data though): touch: cannot touch ‘me.txt’: Permission denied With sudo it works flawless. How can I allow my current user to write data to the share? Is there a mount option?

  I found a few hundred of the following errors in my syslog following some configuration changes: warning: maildir access problem for UID/GID=5000/5000: create maildir file /home/vmail/domain/account1 /tmp/1273028517.P14666.domain.com: Permission denied I made a temporary fix for now (the ole' standby, chmod 777), but I would like to know if this is a permanent error (lost mail) or if these are retried/requeued. I am having really hard time with that, I try to give it full rights to some folders (user profiles) but I can't even modify the NTFS permissions in some cases, I get "permission denied" Is there some soft of tutorial or script that will just give the administrator full rights on all folders in the C driver?   Hi. I'm confused. I have two users in system: u1 and u2, and group u1. both u1 and u2 belong to g1. I've created directory /opt/d with properties: drwxrwxr-x 2 u1 u1 512B May 26 17:55 d AFAIK, this configuration allows both users write to directory. But, from u2: touch /opt/d/x touch: /opt/d/x: Permission denied And same configuration on RHEL5 works fine. What i've missed? Thanks.

• Mail Permissions on a File Server Resource Manager Server

  In 2008 server the File resource manager can be set up to alert users when they go over their quota etc. This is all configured however the email notifications are not working. They have been configured but the event log shows that the user does not have permission to send to the exchange server. There isnt an option to chosse who to send the email from.   I'm attempting to mount an ext4 partition image in userspace. (no sudo, no special config/permissions modification to /dev/loop0 or /etc/fstab etc). So I'm hoping FUSE will come to the rescue. However it seems that each file system mounted through the FUSE system needs to have a special FUSE driver, and I've not been able to find a linux read-write ext4 FUSE driver for linux. Is there a way to mount ext4 images via FUSE (with write permission)?

  My users are running on windows XP 32bit. normally WSUS automatically download and notify them to select which update want to install in the past they were in local administrator rights,now I reduce them to user rights so now they can't see the yellow notification said updated are available.   If I have a script that is to be executed by the nobody user, why is there a need to assign group write and execute permissions. For example in the article at http://www.zzee.com/solutions/unix-permissions.shtml, it notes that the permission 755 should be assigned to scripts on a web server. I understand that the user nobody is treated as others and as the owner of the script I would like full permissions. Am I missing something?

  I can get the password and group from the LDAP client getent passwd getent group work sucessfully But when I try 'su USERNAME' the name from the LDAP server or 'ssh USERNAME@localhost' it prompt me a user password, I typed exactly the USERNAME password but it return "su : Authentication Failure" or "Permission denied, Please try again". I don't know why? it only work when I was at root at the client and "su USERNAME"

• Why isn't the backup file created when running sqlcmd from remote machine?

  I tried running the sqlcmd from a remote host to do a simple backup of a sql 2008 database. The command goes something like this: sqlcmd -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xx -U username -P some_password -Q "Backup database [db] to \ disk = 'c:\test_backup.bak' with format" I get a succesfull message but the file isn't created. When I run this on the sql manager on the same machine, it works. I thought it was permission problems, but I'm using the same username in both cases. Any thoughts?
