    I am trying to check if md5sum or digest exists on solaris and script is used on different machines. [sshexec] We cannot execute java [sshexec] which: not found BUILD SUCCESSFUL Total time: 2 seconds But, i can invoke the remote ANT script in Linux environment using SSHEXEC from windows. Can you please let me know, what could be the issue. JAVA_HOME is set in the windows environment variables. Where to set JAVA_HOME in the windows environment. Is there something similar to .bash_profile in windows. So that ANT process can pick it up.

    I understand that the result set from web sql isn't quite an array, more of an object? I'm cycling through a result set and to speed things up I'd like to remove a row once it's been found. I've tried "delete" and "splice", the former does nothing and the latter throws an error.     Here's a Ruby OO head scratcher for ya, brought about by this Rails scenario: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base has_many(:prices) # define private helper methods end module PrintProduct attr_accessor(:isbn) # override methods in ActiveRecord::Base end class Book < Product include PrintProduct end Product is the base class of all products. Books are kept in the products table via STI. The PrintProduct module brings some common behavior and state to descendants of Product. Book is used inside fields_for blocks in views. This works for me, but I found some odd behavior: After form submission, inside my controller, if I call a method on a book that is defined in PrintProduct, and that method calls a helper method defined in Product, which in turn calls the prices method defined by has_many, I'll get an error complaining that Book#prices is not found. Why is that? Book is a direct descendant of Product! More interesting is the following.. As I developed this hierarchy PrintProduct started to become more of an abstract ActiveRecord::Base, so I thought it prudent to redefine everything as such: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base end class PrintProduct < Product end class Book < PrintProduct end All method definitions, etc. are the same. In this case, however, my web form won't load because the attributes defined by attr_accessor (which are "virtual attributes" referenced by the form but not persisted in the DB) aren't found. I'll get an error saying that there is no method Book#isbn. Why is that?? I can't see a reason why the attr_accessor attributes are not found inside my form's fields_for block when PrintProduct is a class, but they are found when PrintProduct is a Module. Any insight would be appreciated. I'm dying to know why these errors are occurring!

  • What is the best way to read files in an EventMachine-based app?

    In order not to block the reactor I would like to read files asynchronously, but I've found no obvious way of doing it using EventMachine. I've tried a few different approaches, but none of them feels right: Just read the file, it'll block the reactor, but what the hell, it's not that slow (unless it's a big file, and then it definitely is). Open the file for reading and read a chunk on each tick (but how much to read? too much and it'll block the reactor, too little and reading will get slower than necessary). EM.popen('cat some/file', FileReader) feels really weird, but works better than the alternatives above. In combination with the LineAndTextProtocol it reads lines pretty swiftly. EM.attach, but I haven't found any examples of how to use it, and the only thing I've found on the mailing list is that it's deprecated in favour of… EM.watch, which I've found no examples of how to use for reading files. How do you read files within a EventMachine reactor loop?

I have a rails application developed to spain, therefore, all content is in spanish, so, I have a search box to search in a mysql database, all rows are in spanish, I'd like to improve my search to allow to users to search keywords in singular or plural form, for example: keyword: patatas found: patata keyword: veces found: vez keyword: vez found: veces keyword: actividades found: actividad In english, this could be relatively easy with help of singularize and pluralize methods ... where `searching_field` like '%singularized_keyword%' or `searching_field` like '%pluralized_keyword%' But, for spanish....   • Is this linear search implementation actually useful?

    In Matters Computational I found this interesting linear search implementation (it's actually my Java implementation ;-)): public static int linearSearch(int[] a, int key) { int high = a.length - 1; int tmp = a[high]; // put a sentinel at the end of the array a[high] = key; int i = 0; while (a[i] != key) { i++; } // restore original value a[high] = tmp; if (i == high && key != tmp) { return NOT_CONTAINED; } return i; } It basically uses a sentinel, which is the searched for value, so that you always find the value and don't have to check for array boundaries. The last element is stored in a temp variable, and then the sentinel is placed at the last position. When the value is found (remember, it is always found due to the sentinel), the original element is restored and the index is checked if it represents the last index and is unequal to the searched for value. If that's the case, -1 (NOT_CONTAINED) is returned, otherwise the index. While I found this implementation really clever, I wonder if it is actually useful. For small arrays, it seems to be always slower, and for large arrays it only seems to be faster when the value is not found. Any ideas?

    Here's my recent submission for the FB programming contest (qualifying round only requires to upload program output so source code doesn't matter). The objective is to find two squares that add up to a given value. I've left it as it is as an example. It does the job but is too slow for my liking. Here's the points that are obviously eating up time: List of squares is being recalculated for each call of getNumOfDoubleSquares(). This could be precalculated or extended when needed. Both squares are being checked for when it is only necessary to check for one (complements). There might be a more efficient way than a double-nested loop to find pairs. Other suggestions?   • preg_match and long strings

    Hi, This is the preg_match i am trying to use to find specific text in text file. if (preg_match($regexp,$textFile,$result) > 0) { echo "Found ".$result[0]; } else { echo "Not found"; } However, the result is always Found and nothing more. The result array is empty. Now i read that preg_match can't work with long strings. My text file is about 300KB so thats 300000 characters i guess. I am 100% sure that the searched string is in the text file, and the fact that preg_match function returns value above 0 means it found it, but it didn't place it into the result array somehow. So my question would be, how do i make it work? regexp would be /[specific text]\{(\d*)\}/ so, of course i want to be able to get the number in the parentheses.

    I wrote a function to check whether a word is palindrome or not but "unexpectedly", that function failed quite badly, here it is: bool isPalindrome (const string& s){ string reverse = ""; string original = s; for (string_sz i = 0; i != original.size(); ++i){ reverse += original.back(); original.pop_back(); } if (reverse == original) return true; else return false; } It gives me "string iterator offset out of range error" when you pass in a string with only one character and returns true even if we pass in an empty string (although I know its because of the intialisation of the reverse variable) and also when you pass in an unassigned string for example: string input; isPalindrome(input); Later, I found a better function which works as you would expect: bool found(const string& s) { bool found = true; for (string::const_iterator i = s.begin(), j = s.end() - 1; i < j; ++i, --j) { if (*i != *j) found = false; } return found; } Unlike the first function, this function correctly fails when you give it an unassigned string variable or an empty string and works for single characters and such... So, good people of stackoverflow please point out to me why the first function is so bad... Thank You.

    I have two usb-webcams on them machine, but at bot they some switch /dev/video number. The solution to this problem seems to be new udev rule. I have added this rule in/etc/udev/rules.d/jj-video.rules: Fix webcam 1 KERNEL=="video1", SUBSYSTEM=="video4linux", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="1d6b", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0001", SYMLINK+="webcam1" Fix webcam 2 KERNEL=="video2", SUBSYSTEM=="video4linux", ATTR{name}=="Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000", KERNELS=="0000:00:1d.0", SUBSYSTEMS=="pci", DRIVERS=="uhci_hcd", ATTRS{vendor}=="0x8086", ATTRS##{device}=="0x2658", SYMLINK+="webcam2" but the symlinks are not created. I have tried many different combinations in this file. The present ones are just my lates attempts. I found the parameters in: jjk@eee-old:~$ udevadm info -a -p $(udevadm info -q path -p /class/video4linux/video1) Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.   • Can't clone gitosis-admin.git local from my snow leopard server running gitosis

    I've installed gitosis as described here: http://gist.github.com/264304 One of the things that I had to adjust was to give my git user permissions to use ssh (which I did trough server admin - access - ssh and added the 'git' user). When I ssh from my local machine (mac osx) as the git user, I get this response: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 bash: gitosis-serve: command not found Connection to 10.0.0.108 closed. Which I think is normal, because in Pro GIT the author says you should get something like this if you try ssh'ing to the server using your git user: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 fatal: unrecognized command 'gitosis-serve schacon@quaternion' Connection to gitserver closed. So far so good, I think? Now when I try to clone my gitosis-admin.git repository using this command: $git clone [email protected]:gitosis-admin.git I get this: Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/joggink/gitosis-admin/.git/ bash: gitosis-serve: command not found fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly So after doing some searching, I found an answer here on serverfault claiming I should use ssh:// as protocol for my git clone (which I thought is the default git protocol?)   • Configuring OpenLDAP as a Active Directory Proxy

    We try to set up an Active Directory server for company-wide authentication. Some of the servers that should authenticate against the AD are placed in a DMZ, so we thought of using a LDAP-server as a proxy, so that only 1 server in the DMZ has to connect to the LAN where the AD-server is placed). With some googling it was no problem to configure the slapd (see slapd.conf below) and it seemed to work when using the ldapsearch tool, so we tried to use it in apache2 htaccess to authenticate the user over the LDAP-proxy. And here comes the problem: We found out the username in the AD is stored in the attribute 'sAMAccountName' so we configured it in .htaccess (see below) but the login didn't work. In the syslog we found out that the filter for the ldapsearch was not (like it should be) '(&(objectClass=*)(sAMAccountName=authtest01))' but '(&(objectClass=*)(?=undefined))' which we found out is slapd's way to show that the attribute do not exists or the value is syntactically wrong for this attribute. We thought of a missing schema and found the microsoft.schema (and the .std / .ext ones of it) and tried to include them in the slapd.conf. Which does not work. We found no working schemata so we just picked out the part about the sAMAccountName and build a microsoft.minimal.schema (see below) that we included.
