• Python error after installing libboost-all-dev on debian [migrated]

  A friend of mine wanted the liboost libraries installed on our shared computer so after installing libboost-all-dev 1.49.0.1 ( A debian wheezy machine ), I get this error when using the "pydoc modules" command on the commandline. As you guessed im not a c/c++ programmer. So I guess my question is, will this hurt something later ? is their a way to install those packages without hurting python ?

• .htaccess working on remote server but does not work on localhost. Getting 404 errors on localhost

  MY PROBLEM: When I visit localhost the site does not work. It shows some text from the site but it seems the server can not locate any other files. Here is a snippet of the errors from firebug: "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/popup.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/style.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/player.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.8.11.custom.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/js/jquery.js" It seems my server is looking for the files in the wrong places. For example, localhost/css/popup.css is actually located at localhost/app/webroot/css/popup.css. I have my site setup on a remote server with the same exact configurations and it works perfectly fine. I am just having this issue trying to run the site on my laptop at localhost. I edited my VirtualHosts file DocumentRoot and to /home/user/public_html/site.com/public/app/webroot/ and this reduces some errors but I feel that this is wrong and sort of hacking it since I didn't use these setting on my production server which works. The last note I want to make is that the website uses dynamic URLs. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. For example, on the production server the URLS are: site.com/#hello/12321. HERES WHAT I AM WORKING WITH: I have a LAMP server setup on my laptop which runs on Ubuntu 11.10. I have enabled mod_rewrite: sudo a2enmod rewrite Then I edited my Virtual Hosts file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DirectoryIndex index.php DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html/site.com/public <Directory /home/user/public_html/site.com/public/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Then I restarted apache. • Trouble setting up PATH for Java on Debian

  I am trying to get Oracle Java 7 update 3 working correctly on Debian 6. I have downloaded and set up the files in /usr/java/jre1.7.0_03. I have also set the following two lines at the end of /etc/bash.bashrc: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jre1.7.0_03 export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin Logging in as other users and root is fine, Java can be found: chris@mc:~$ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_03-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.1-b02, mixed mode) However there are two cases where Java cannot be found as detailed below. Note that both of these worked fine when I have previously installed OpenJDK Java 6 via aptitude, but I need Oracle Java 7 for various reasons. Most importantly, I cannot run commands as another user via su, despite the PATH showing that Java should be present. How can it be in the PATH but not be found? Update 05/04/2012: explained by Daniel, to do with it being a non-interactive shell so files such as /etc/profile and /etc/bash.bashrc are not executed. Doing a full swap to that user and running Java works: root@mc:~# su chris chris@mc:/root$ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" ... I run a script on start up which exhibits similar but slightly different problems. The script is located in /etc/init.d/start-mystuff.sh and calls a jar: #!/bin/bash # /etc/init.d/start-mystuff.sh java -jar /opt/Mars.jar I can confirm that the script runs on start up and the exit code is 127, which indicates command not found. Inserting a line to print/save the PATH shows that it is: /sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin This second problem isn't as important because I can just point directly to the Java executable in the script, but I am still curious! I have tried setting the full PATH and JAVA_HOME explicitly in /etc/environment which didn't help. I have also tried setting them in /etc/profile which doesn't seem to help either. I have tried logging in and out again after setting PATH in the various locations (duh!). Anyway, long post for what will probably have a simple one line solution :( Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, I have spent far too long trying to fix it by myself. Motivation The first problem may seem obscure but in my system I have users that are not allowed SSH access yet I still want to run processes as them. I have a ton of scripts operating in this way and don't want to have to change them all.

• Volume group disappeared, LVs still available

  I've run into an issue with my KVM host which runs VMs on a LVM volume. As of last night the logical volumes are no longer seen as such (I can't create snapshots of them even though I have been for months now). Running any scans all result in nothing being found: [root@apollo ~]# pvscan No matching physical volumes found [root@apollo ~]# vgscan Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... There are of course dozens of examples of using virtual users with Dovecot, but all the ones we have found either refer to Dovecot 1.x (we are using 2.x), using only virtual users (we must use real AND virtual users) or want to use a MySQL db, we need to use a text file. Some hints about where we are going wrong would be very much appreciated.

  We have an Windows 2008 server with IIS 7 to test sites we develop for our clients. Each site has a binding on a subdomain: clienta.example.com clientb.example.com clientc.example.com (* Using example.com to protect the innocent) For one of these sites we now have to test if it works over https. So I have created a wildcard certificate request with *.example.com as the common name. I have received the certificate (issued by PositiveSSL SA) and completed the request. The certificate is now installed in IIS. Now I have added an https binding to the second site with the following settings: type: https IP address: All Unassigned Port: 443 Host name: clientb.example.com SSL certificate: *.example.com Browsing the site over regular http works fine. When I try to browse the site over https I get the following errors (depending on the browser used): Chrome This webpage is not available Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.   I have a problem with my newly installed 12.10 86_64 Desktop. This error pops up on console when I try to update apt-get or try to install packages and nodejs just don't work and there is no error on console. This now happens every single time. It is imperative that I get it sorted. The strange thing is that it behaves initially then starts to hang after several hours. I perused logs previously and nothing stood out. • Grub2 -- Dualboot Ubuntu LTS 12.04 and Windows 7 -- Detects two Windows 7 (loader) entries

  this is the first question I have ever asked the Ubuntu Community. :D I'm fairly new to Ubuntu, but I understand the basics and know how to navigate the Terminal. I also know how to ask for/research my problems before asking for/ help. I have scoured the internet high and low and learned much of how Grub2 works. But nothing has helped me to solve my problem. My problem is this: I have a computer that has three hard drives. It previously had Windows XP, but I upgraded to Windows 7. I also installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin). During my installation of Windows 7, there was a failure and I had to restart the installation. Afterwards, I installed Ubuntu. After some trouble removing all traces of the XP OS (Ubuntu auto-detected it, but not Windows 7) I got the two OSes working flawlessly. Or, almost. When booting up, Grub2 used to display Ubuntu, Ubuntu Recovery Mode, Other Versions of Linux, memtest, followed by "Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1" and "Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sdb1". I eventually removed Recovery Mode, Other Versions, and Memtest. Now, when I run: sudo update-grub I get this print-out: Generating grub.cfg ... Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-26-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-26-generic Found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1 Found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sdb1 I would like to remove "Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1", as it is a broken entry that shouldn't exist, and must have been installed during my first Windows 7 attempt. I cannot find a Windows 7 entry in /etc/grub.d... And I don't know where to look. Here is a layout of my hard drives: /dev/sda1/ (1.82 TiB), NTFS ("Media") /dev/sdb1/ (100 Mib), NTFS ("System Reserved") /dev/sdb2/ (149 GiB), NTFS ("Windows 7") /dev/sdb3/ (149 GiB), Extended (" ") /dev/sdb4/ (145 GiB), ext4 (" ") /dev/sdb5/ (4 GiB), linux-swap (" ") /dev/sdc1/ (488.28 GiB), NTFS ("Downloads") /dev/sdc2/ (488.28 GiB), NTFS ("AltMedia") /dev/sdc3/ (886.45 GiB), NTFS ("Personal") unallocated (2.09 MiB), unallocated What I think has happened: Windows 7 installed first and badly. I installed it again. First, there was Windows XP to guide where the bootloader went to so it was put on /dev/sdb1/. But, the second time no such guide existed so the machine put another bootloader on /dev/sda1/. sda1, by the way, is the only partition on a 2TB drive. No boot record partition appears to exist according to gedit. I'm not sure where Grub2 is getting this information from. But, there it is. Is there anything somebody can do to help me?   Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/terje/archive/2014/06/11/converting-projects-to-use-automatic-nuget-restore.aspxDownload tool In version 2.7 of NuGet automatic nuget restore was introduced, meaning you no longer need to distort your msbuild project files with nuget target information.   Visual Studio and TFS 2013 build have this enabled by default.  However, if your project was created before this was introduced, and/or if you have used the “Enable NuGet Package Restore” afterwards, you now have a series of unwanted things in your projects, and a series of project files that have been modified – and – you no longer neither want nor need this !  You might also get into some unwanted issues due to these modifications.  This is a MSBuild modification that was needed only before NuGet 2.7 ! So: DON’T USE THIS FUNCTION !!! There is an issue https://nuget.codeplex.com/workitem/4019 on this on the NuGet project site to get this function removed, renamed or at least moved farther away from the top level (please help vote it up!).  The response seems to be that it WILL BE removed, around version 3.0. This function does nothing you need after the introduction of NuGet 2.7.  What is also unfortunate is the naming of it – it implies that it is needed, it is not, and what is worse, there is no corresponding function to remove what it does ! So to fix this use the tool named IFix, that will fix this issue for you   - all free of course, and the code is open source.  Also report issues there:  https://github.com/OsirisTerje/IFix    IFix information DOWNLOAD HERE This command line tool installs using an MSI, and add itself to the system path.  If you work in a team, you will probably need to use the  tool multiple times.  Anyone in the team may at any time use the “Enable NuGet Package Restore” function and mess up your project again.  The IFix program can be run either in a  check modus, where it does not write anything back – it only checks if you have any issues, or in a Fix mode, where it will also perform the necessary fixes for you. The IFix program is used like this: IFix <command> [-c/--check] [-f/--fix]  [-v/--verbose] The command in this case is “nugetrestore”.  It will do a check from the location where it is being called, and run through all subfolders from that location. So  “IFix nugetrestore  --check” , will do the check ,  and “IFix nugetrestore  --fix”  will perform the changes, for all files and folders below the current working directory. (Note that --check  can be replaced with only –c, and --fix with –f, and so on. ) BEWARE: When you run the fix option, all solutions to be affected must be closed in Visual Studio ! So, if you just want to DO it, then: IFix nugetrestore --check to see if you have issues then IFix nugetrestore  --fix to fix them. How does it work IFix nugetrestore  checks and optionally fixes four issues that the older enabling of nuget restore did.  The issues are related to the MSBuild projess, and are: Deleting the nuget.targets file. Deleting the nuget.exe that is located under the .nuget folder Removing all references to nuget.targets in the solution file Removing all properties and target imports of nuget.targets inside the csproj files. IFix fixes these issues in the same sequence. The first step, removing the nuget.targets file is the most critical one, and all instances of the nuget.targets file within the scope of a solution has to be removed, and in addition it has to be done with the solution closed in Visual Studio.  If Visual Studio finds a nuget.targets file, the csproj files will be automatically messed up again. This means the removal process above might need to be done multiple times, specially when you’re working with a team, and that solution context menu still has the “Enable NuGet Package Restore” function.  Someone on the team might inadvertently do this at any time. It can be a good idea to add this check to a checkin policy – if you run TFS standard version control, but that will have no effect if you use TFS Git version control of course. So, better be prepared to run the IFix check from time to time. Or, even better, install IFix on your build servers, and add a call to IFix nugetrestore --check in the TFS Build script.    How does it look As a first example I have run the IFix program from the top of a set of git repositories, so it spans multiple repositories with multiple solutions. The result from the check option is as follows: We see the four red lines, there is one for each of the four checks we talked about in the previous section. The fact that they are red, means we have that particular issue. The first section (above the first red text line) is the nuget targets section.  Notice  No.1, it says it has found no paths to copy.  What IFix does here is to check if there are any defined paths to other nuget galleries.  If there are, then those are copied over to the nuget.config file, where is where it should be in version 2.7 and above.   No.2 says it has found the particular nuget.targets file,  No.3  states it HAS found some other nuget galleries defines in the targets file, which then it would like to copy to the config.file. No.4 is the section for nuget.exe files, and list those it has found, and which it would like to delete. No 5 states it has found a reference to nuget.targets in the solution file.  This reference comes from the fact that the .nuget folder is a solution folder, and the items within are described in the solution file. It then checks the csproj files, and as can be seen from the last red line, it ha found issues in 96 out of 198 csproj files.  There are two possible issues in a csproj files.  No.6 is the first one, and the most common and most important one, an “Import project” section.  This is the section that calls the nuget.targets files.  No.7 is another issue, which seems to sometimes be there, sometimes not, it is a RestorePackages property, which also should go away. Now, if we run the IFix nugetrestore –fix command, and then the check again after that, the result is: All green !

• Visual Studio 2010, Entity Framework, and Oracle

  While I was working on a SilverLight 4 demo I found out that Entity Framework is not supported directly through the .NET provider or ODP tools. In order to make them work you need to either write a wrapper of your own (wouldn't chance it) or else use a provider like DataDirect or Quest's upcoming tool. So far, I've been very happy with the DataDirect tool (found here http://www.datadirect.com/products/net/index.ssp). As I get a little farther along I'll post more on SL4, RIA, and EF.

• Flash video doesn't work after upgrade to 11.10

  I've found that after upgrading to 11.10 (32 bit), I can no longer watch streaming flash video on sites such as Ustream or Justin.tv. I've spent the last several hours installing this package and uninstalling that package, and purging everything flash-related and starting over, to no avail. I was curious if anybody else has run into similar issues and found a fix. I'm running an NVIDIA card, and I've tried both sets of drivers available.
