  • Android GPS app not closing connection

    - by tadywankenobi
Hi there, Fairly new to Android, so just trying to work out: I have a simple Maps app that plots a couple of locations. It's a demo for a potentially bigger app later. The one thing I would like to do is make it exit correctly. I want to assume that when a user hits the "Home" or "Back" button on the phone, that they have exited the app. I want when this has happened for the GPS process to shut down. I can't seem to find any examples of how to do this correctly. I have an onDestroy() subclass with a super.onDestroy() method but this doesn't seem to cut it. I've tested on my phone and while everything else seems to work fine, this is bugging me. I keep seeing the GPS icon in the notifications bar. To give you an example, this doesn't happen when you leave GoogleMaps. Anyone any ideas or know what I'm missing? T

  • Initial form data from model - Django

    - by alexBrand
I am trying to create an edit form for my model. I did not use a model form because depending on the model type, there are different forms that the user can use. (For example, one of the forms has a Tinymce widget, while the other doesn't.) Is there any way of setting the initial data of a form (not a ModelForm) using a model? I tried the following but getting an error: b = get_object_or_404(Business, user=request.user) form = f(initial = b) where f is a subclass of forms.Form The error I am getting is AttributeError: 'Business' object has on attribute 'get'

  • Drupal Views: Render Null Result for Relationship as 0

    - by Kyle S
I have a View configured in Drupal to return nodes, sorting them by their average vote in descending order. For the purpose of the View, the value of the average votes is a Relationship. I noticed that nodes with no votes are displayed after nodes with a negative average. Nodes with no votes should have an average of 0, but I believe the MySQL JOIN is causing NULL values to be returned (as there are no matching rows in the joined table, since a row is created after the first vote is cast for that item). I discovered that with MySQL it is possible to output all values that are NULL in a column as another value with IFNULL(column_name,'other value'). I feel like I would need to modify the Views module in order to obtain this functionality, but I'm hoping that there is some sort of option that returns NULL values in a relation (a relation doesn't exist for the item) as 0 instead of NULL, so that I can properly sort the nodes. The modules I am using include Views, Voting API, Vote Up/Down, and CTools. Thanks.

  • overriding callbacks avoiding attribute pollution

    - by pygabriel
I've a class that has some callbacks and its own interface, something like: class Service: def __init__(self): connect("service_resolved", self.service_resolved) def service_resolved(self, a,b c): ''' This function is called when it's triggered service resolved signal and has a lot of parameters''' the connect function is for example the gtkwidget.connect, but I want that this connection is something more general, so I've decided to use a "twisted like" approach: class MyService(Service): def my_on_service_resolved(self, little_param): ''' it's a decorated version of srvice_resolved ''' def service_resolved(self,a,b,c): super(MyService,self).service_resolved(a,b,c) little_param = "something that's obtained from a,b,c" self.my_on_service_resolved(little_param) So I can use MyService by overriding my_on_service_resolved. The problem is the "attributes" pollution. In the real implementation, Service has some attributes that can accidentally be overriden in MyService and those who subclass MyService. How can I avoid attribute pollution? What I've thought is a "wrapper" like approach but I don't know if it's a good solution: class WrapperService(): def __init__(self): self._service = service_resolved # how to override self._service.service_resolved callback? def my_on_service_resolved(self,param): ''' '''

  • How do I get the raw dimensions of a bitmap in an ImageView?

    - by potatoe
It seems like I might be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure out how to retrieve the raw (unscaled) dimensions of a bitmap being displayed in an ImageView. For example, if I load a bitmap using Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(...), I can get those dimensions from b.getWidth() and b.getHeight(), and I could pass the bitmap into an ImageView using setImageBitmap(b). But if I have a subclass of ImageView, is there any way to retrieve those dimensions without having to pass them in explicitly? I guess I'm looking for a getImageBitmap() analog of ImageView's setImageBitmap() method, which would retrieve a Bitmap object that I can call getWidth() and getHeight() on. Any other way to retrieve the original dimensions would work too, though.

  • How to optimize this script

    - by marks34
I have written the following script. It opens a file, reads each line from it splitting by new line character and deleting first character in line. If line exists it's being added to array. Next each element of array is splitted by whitespace, sorted alphabetically and joined again. Every line is printed because script is fired from console and writes everything to file using standard output. I'd like to optimize this code to be more pythonic. Any ideas ? import sys def main(): filename = sys.argv[1] file = open(filename) arr = [] for line in file: line = line[1:].replace("\n", "") if line: arr.append(line) for line in arr: lines = line.split(" ") lines.sort(key=str.lower) line = ''.join(lines) print line if __name__ == '__main__': main()

  • If a NSView uses autolayout, do all of its subviews also need to use autolayout for positioning?

    - by boyfarrell
I have a view in a window, the position and size of the view are calculated with autolayout. The view has a subview, a draggable NSView subclass. It is really easy to make a NSView "draggable" by overriding -mouseDown: and -mouseDragged: and changing the frame of the view directly. The view hierarchy is as follows, What is the best way of making the subview draggable in this case? For example, Is it possible for the subview to not use autolayout, so that it can be positioned by changing the frame directly? i.e. the window positions the main view, but then autolayout does not layout the subview inside the main view. Or to all views in the hierarchy need to use autolayout. When I have used autolayout before, I have used it to make "fixed" layout that respond to resizing. But dragging a view with a mouse does't seems like a natural use case for autolayout.

  • Key Events in TabActivities?

    - by stormin986
I have a TabActivity and want to catch and handle presses of HOME and BACK. Where do I need to catch these events? In my subclass of TabActivity I implement the following: @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { switch (keyCode) { // Code handling } return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); } Didn't work. So I placed a breakpoint on the switch statement line. But this function never gets called, whether I press volume up/down, menu, home, or back. Where do I need to catch these KeyEvents?

  • MySQL: How to separate a name field in one table into firstname / lastname in two separate tables?

    - by Eileen
I have a drupal database where the node table is full of profiles. The field node.title is "Firstname Lastname". I want to separate the names so that node.title = "Firstname", and over in another table entirely, content_type_profile.field_lastname_value = "Lastname". The entries in the two tables can be joined on the field nid. I'd love to run a SQL command to do this, and I am fine with taking the naive approach that the first word is the first name, and everything else in the field is last name -- it will mean a few manual corrections down the line, but that's much better than doing it all by hand in the first place. (I read this question and surely the answer lies in there but I am not that SQL-savvy and am not sure how to make it work for my database.) Thanks!

  • How to stop a MFC/win32 control re-painting

    - by John
I have a CRichEditCtrl, and an algorithm works on its contents in-place, iterating through the contents and making changes. This seems to cause it to re-paaint every time, which causes flickering and a noticeable time to complete the operation, especially if the control starts scrolling. I wondered if there's a neat way for me to stop it repainting for a period. It's actually a custom subclass of CRichEditCtrl in use so I was thinking something like: void MyCustomEditCtrl::DoAlgorithm() { enableRepaint(false); ... //to the actual work ... enableRepaint(true); } What's the neatest approach? A custom on-paint handler which does nothing when an operation is in progress? Or can repainting actually be disabled?

  • Ruby forwarding method calls

    - by JP
I have an instance of a master class which generates instances of a subclass, these subclasses need to forward some method calls back to the master instance. At the moment I have code looking something like this, but it feels like I should be able to do the same thing more efficiently (maybe with method_missing?) class Master def initalize(mynum) @mynum = mynum end def one_thing(subinstance) "One thing with #{subinstance.var} from #{@mynum}" end def four_things(subinstance) "Four things with #{subinstance.var} from #{@mynum}" end def many_things(times,subinstance) "#{times} things with #{subinstance.var} from #{@mynum}" end def make_a_sub(uniqueness) Subthing.new(uniqueness, self) end class Subthing def initialize(uniqueness, master) @u = uniqueness @master = master end # Here I'm forwarding method calls def one_thing master.one_thing(self) end def four_things master.four_things(self) end def many_things(times) master.many_things(times,self) end end end m = Master.new(42) s = m.make_a_sub("very") s.one_thing === m.one_thing(s) s.many_things(8) === m.many_things(8,s) I hope you can see what's going on here. I would use method_missing, but I'm not sure how to cope with the possibility of some calls having arguments and some not (I can't really rearrange the order of the arguments to the Master methods either) Thanks for reading!

  • Subtype polymorphism and arrays

    - by user133466
Computer[] labComputers = new Computer[10]; with public class Computer { ... void toString(){ // print computer specs } } public class Notebook extends Computer{ ... void toString(){ // print computer specs + laptop color } } each subscripted variable labComputers[i] can reference either a Computer object or a Notebook object because Notebook is a subclass of Computer. For the method call labComputers[i].toString(), polymorphism ensures that the correct toString method is called. I wonder what if we do Notebook[] labComputers = new Notebook[10]; what kind or error would I get if I reference with Computer object and a Notebook object

  • Just how much do I want to make virtual?

    - by Alex
I am writing an abstract superclass where literally every method is going to be overridden. There is some default functionality I could implement, but most of the time it's enough to leave the implementation to the subclass writer. Since just about every method is going to be overwritten, how much should I make virtual and how much should I just leave as regular methods? In the current incarnation, everything is virtual, but I still haven't let this loose to anyone to use, so the design is flexible. What advantages/disadvantages are there to virtual functions? Links to good reading material about this would be appreciated.

  • What is a good way for a custom accessory view in a UITableViewCell to message the table view contro

    - by Alex Gosselin
Hi Everyone, I am working on adding a custom accessory view, (a button) to a UITableViewCell, and I need it to tell the table view when it is touched, but I can't figure out how to communicate to the table view what button was pressed. Ideally I'd like to somehow call a function like this: [controller tableView:view didSelectCustomButtonAtIndexPath:indexPath usingCell:self]; when my custom view button is pressed. Sorry if this is a bit vague, I'm not really sure how to explain this well. I am basically looking for how to mimic the implementation for tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: without having to subclass UITableViewCell. Thanks for any help.

  • Dismissing the keyboard in a UIScrollView

    - by Nicholas1024
Alright, I have a couple of UITextFields and UITextViews inside a UIScrollView, and I'd like to set the keyboard to disappear whenever the scrollview is touched or scrolled (except when you touch down inside the text field/view, of course). My current attempt at doing this is replacing the UIScrollView with a subclass, and setting it to call a removeKeyboard function (defined inside the main view controller) inside the touchesBegan method. However, this only removes the keyboard for a normal touch, not when the view is simply scrolled. So, what's the best way to remove the keyboard inside a UIScrollView? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Google App Engine: Difficulty with Users API (or maybe just a Python syntax problem)

    - by Rosarch
I have a simple GAE app that includes a login/logout link. This app is running on the dev server at the moment. The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately. It then puts this information into a _template_data dictionary, for convenience of subclasses. class BasePage(webapp.RequestHandler): _user = users.get_current_user() _login_logout_link = None if _user: _login_logout_link = users.create_logout_url('/') else: _login_logout_link = users.create_login_url('/') _template_data = {} _template_data['login_logout_link'] = _login_logout_link _template_data['user'] = _user def render(self, templateName, templateData): path = os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), 'Static/Templates/%s.html' % templateName) self.response.out.write(template.render(path, templateData)) Here is one such subclass: class MainPage(BasePage): def get(self): self.render('start', self._template_data) The login/logout link is displayed fine, and going to the correct devserver login/logout page. However, it seems to have no effect - the server still seems to think the user is logged out. What am I doing wrong here?

BTW, the member variable of name didn't screwed up, but it was the member variable of subclass of class screwed up.

  • Is it worth migrating to NHibernate 2.x from NHibernate 1.2?

    - by Amitabh
We are using nHibernate 1.2 in a system which is not performing good. Will there be some performance improvement if we migrate to latest version of nHibernate? Overall is it a good idea to migrate to the latest version of nHibernate? EDIT: I want to use following features to improve performance. 1. Second level cache. 2. Joined Table. 3. MultiQuery to batch queries.

  • What is this kind of chaining in C# called?

    - by Thinking
Can you please tell me what kind of construct in C# is this. Code Golf: Numeric equivalent of an Excel column name C.WriteLine(C.ReadLine() .Reverse() .Select((c, i) => (c - 64) * System.Math.Pow(26, i)) .Sum()); Though I am new to C# (only two months exp so far), but since the time I have joined a C# team, I have never seen this kind of chaining. It really attracted me and I want to learn more about it. Please give some insight about this.

  • Are UIView's in TableViewCells cause for performance problems?

    - by iFloh
Hi, I have a UITableView of UITableViewCells that so far performed well. I now aded a simple UIView to my UITableViewCell as a color indicator (backgroundColor only, no other content or attributes). Running the tableview again I realise scrolling is not as smooth as it used to be. The tableView suddenly also takes long time (~1+ secs) to come back again when returning from a subview (e.g. return from the view that gets pushed upon selection of a cell). Any ideas why the added UIView would be problematic? Why are the labels (being a subclass of UIView) not cause for similar issues?

  • how to integrate my users database table with the aspnet_users table that comes with asp.net members

    - by ooo
i have a database that already has a users table COLUMNS: userID - int loginName - string First - string Last - string i just installed the asp.net membership table. Right now all of my tables are joined into my users table foreign keyed into the "userId" field How do i integrate asp.net_users table into my schema? here are the ideas i thought of: Add a membership_id field to my users table and on new inserts, include that new field in my users table. This seems like the cleanest way as i dont need to break any existing relationships. break all existing relationship and move all of the fields in my user table into the asp.net_users table. This seems like a pain but ultimately will lead to the most simple, normalized solution any thoughts?

  • How to use composition from another class to set Name?

  • Subtyping and assignment in Java

    - by Danrex
    Arghh I just know people are going to hate me for asking this... I was just playing around with inheritance and I noticed you can instantiate a subclass object in one of two ways when you write code. So then I wondered if there is any functional difference between these two methods. So in the code below, does this produce the exact same result...a MountainBike object, or is there some difference I should know about? Bicycle is the superclass for this example. If I do Bicycle bike or MountainBike bike I am effectively making a MountainBike due to new MountainBike()? So basically the difference is just semantics at this point? Bicycle bike = new MountainBike(); MountainBike bike = new MountainBike();

  • Oracle Coherence, Split-Brain and Recovery Protocols In Detail

    - by Ricardo Ferreira
This article provides a high level conceptual overview of Split-Brain scenarios in distributed systems. It will focus on a specific example of cluster communication failure and recovery in Oracle Coherence. This includes a discussion on the witness protocol (used to remove failed cluster members) and the panic protocol (used to resolve Split-Brain scenarios). Note that the removal of cluster members does not necessarily indicate a Split-Brain condition. Oracle Coherence does not (and cannot) detect a Split-Brain as it occurs, the condition is only detected when cluster members that previously lost contact with each other regain contact. Cluster Topology and Configuration In order to create an good didactic for the article, let's assume a cluster topology and configuration. In this example we have a six member cluster, consisting of one JVM on each physical machine. The member IDs are as follows: Member ID  IP Address  1  10.149.155.76  2  10.149.155.77  3  10.149.155.236  4  10.149.155.75  5  10.149.155.79  6  10.149.155.78 Members 1, 2, and 3 are connected to a switch, and members 4, 5, and 6 are connected to a second switch. There is a link between the two switches, which provides network connectivity between all of the machines. Member 1 is the first member to join this cluster, thus making it the senior member. Member 6 is the last member to join this cluster. Here is a log snippet from Member 6 showing the complete member set: 2010-02-26 15:27:57.390/3.062 Oracle Coherence GE 3.5.3/465p2 <Info> (thread=main, member=6): Started DefaultCacheServer... In a production setting, this type of communication failure can have many root causes, including (but not limited to) network failures, excessive GC, high CPU utilization, swapping/virtual memory, and exceeding maximum network bandwidth. In addition, this type of failure is not necessarily indicative of a split brain. Any communication failure will be logged in this fashion. Member 2 logs a communication failure with Member 5: 2010-02-26 15:30:32.638/196.928 Oracle Coherence GE 3.5.3/465p2 <Warning> (thread=PacketPublisher, member=2): Timeout while delivering a packet; requesting the departure confirmation for Member(Id=5, Timestamp=2010-02-26 15:27:49.095, Address=10.149.155.79:8088, MachineId=1103, Location=site:usdhcp.oraclecorp.com,machine:dhcp-burlington6-4fl-east-10-149,process:3229, Role=CoherenceServer) by MemberSet(Size=2, BitSetCount=2 Member(Id=1, Timestamp=2010-02-26 15:27:06.931, Address=10.149.155.76:8088, MachineId=1100, Location=site:usdhcp.oraclecorp.com,machine:dhcp-burlington6-4fl-east-10-149,process:511, Role=CoherenceServer) Member(Id=4, Timestamp=2010-02-26 15:27:39.574, Address=10.149.155.75:8088, MachineId=1099, Location=process:800, Role=CoherenceServer) ) The Coherence clustering protocol (TCMP) is a reliable transport mechanism built on UDP. In order for the protocol to be reliable, it requires an acknowledgement (ACK) for each packet delivered. If a packet fails to be acknowledged within the configured timeout period, the Coherence cluster member will log a packet timeout (as seen in the log message above). When this occurs, the cluster member will consult with other members to determine who is at fault for the communication failure. If the witness members agree that the suspect member is at fault, the suspect is removed from the cluster. If the witnesses unanimously disagree, the accuser is removed. This process is known as the witness protocol. Since Member 2 cannot communicate with Member 5, it selects two witnesses (Members 1 and 4) to determine if the communication issue is with Member 5 or with itself (Member 2). • Is Your ASP.NET Development Server Not Working?

    - by Paulo Morgado
Since Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio comes with a development web server: the ASP.NET Development Server. I’ve been using this web server for simple test projects since than with Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 in Windows XP Professional on my work laptop and Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate and Windows 7 64bit Ultimate at my home desktop without any problems (apart the known custom identity problem, that is). When I received my new work laptop, I installed Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise and Visual Studio 2008 and, for my surprise, the ASP.NET Development Server wasn’t working. I started looking for differences between the laptop environment and the desktop environment and the most notorious differences were: System Laptop Desktop SKU Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate Joined to a Domain Yes No Anti-Virus McAffe ESET After asserting that no domain policies were being applied to my laptop and domain user and nothing was being logged by the ant-virus, my suspicions turned to the fact that the laptop was running an Enterprise SKU and the desktop was running an Ultimate SKU. After having problems with other applications I was sure that problem was the Enterprise SKU, but never found a solution to the problem. Because I wasn’t doing any web development at the time, I left it alone. After upgrading to Windows 7, the problem persisted but, because I wasn’t doing any web development at the time, once again, I left it alone. Now that I installed Visual Studio 2010 I had to solve this. After searching around forums and blogs that either didn’t offer an answer or offered very complicated workarounds that, sometimes, involved messing with the registry, I came to the conclusion that the solution is, in fact, very simple. When Windows Vista is installed, hosts file, according to this contains this definition: 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost This was not what I had on my laptop hosts file. What I had was this: #127.0.0.1 localhost #::1 localhost I might have changed it myself, but from the amount of people that I found complaining about this problem on Windows Vista, this was probably the way it was. The installation of Windows 7 leaves the hosts file like this: #127.0.0.1 localhost #::1 localhost And although the ASP.NET Development Server works fine on Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, on Windows 7 64bit Enterprise it needs to be change to this: 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost And I suspect it’s the same with Windows Vista 64bit Enterprise.
