  I'm trying to learn about grails with Google App Engine and JPA by following a few tutorials: http://www.morkeleb.com/2009/08/12/grails-and-google-appengine-beginners-guide/ http://inhouse32.appspot.com/index.html http://grails.org/plugin/app-engine I've got grails 1.3.0 RC 2, and App Engine SDK 1.3.3, and I'm using Windows 7. The steps that I try are: grails create-app appname cd appname grails install-plugin app-engine. I answer jpa when asked about jdo/jpa. • Webkit iPhone App : How to dynamically change the user zoom (or scale, pich & zoom) in the viewport

  I use JQTouch for an iPhone app. JQtouch disable by default the possibility to pinch&zoom the page. For one page (containing a big image), i need to enable the pinch & zoom feature. This is easy : var viewport = $("head meta[name=viewport]"); viewport.attr('content', 'width=320, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=10.0, minimum-scale=1, user-scalable=1'); But after user has play with the pinch & zoom, I need to dynamically reset the zoom (scale) to the default. I tried to reset the viewport: viewport.attr('content', 'width=320, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0;'); After calling the above code, it's not possible to zoom anymore (because of user-scalable=0;), but it doesn't change the current scale to the default. I am looking for something like setScale(1), or to change an attribute like current-scale=1 Any idea ?

  I was hunting around the net for a way to easily allow users to blank out imagefield/filefields they have set in the admin. My problem is i can't figure out what is the correct way i should be doing this. Any suggestions? thanks

• IE8 CSS and html vs IE7

  Pardon any brashness here, I'm about at my wits end looking for answers. I am looking for a list (if one exists) or some resource guide of specific html and css tags that have changed from IE7 to IE8. Specifically, I want to see something like "this code works in IE7 but not IE8... here is the broken tag's equivalent to make IE8 work." I do NOT [begin frustration rant] want to hear anything about the meta x-ua-compatibility work around to put in my header. We are FIXING our app for IE8, not putting on a band-aid. • Flash CS4 <b> tag in with htmlText

  Wow, this one is really weird. I have the following setup: Two textfields on the stage with Arial normal and Arial bold, both embedded. I then have another textfield which I am setting like so: tb.htmlText = "Test <b>Test</b>"; For some reason, the bold text is not displaying as bold, but as regular weight. I have tried embedding the fonts in the library, using the [Embed] meta tag and even resorted to using CSS to force the fontFamily. Weirdly, I can use Font.enumurateFonts and see both fonts are embedded, but the textfield refused to use the bold version inside the < b tags. I've been told this is a problem with Flash CS4 on a mac and that it will work on PC. I refuse to believe this is the case, however. Surely Adobe would have fixed this by now? Any help would be appreciated.

  i have a proble, when insert something in foreign language into database. i have set the collation of database to utf8_general_ci(try utf8_unicod_ci too). but when i insert some text into table, it was saved like this Õ€Õ¡ÕµÕ¥Ö€Õ¥Õ¶ Ô±Õ¶Õ¸Ö‚Õ¶ but when i read from database, text shows in correct form. it looks like that only in database. i have set encoding in my html document to charset=UTF-8 <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> and i set mysql_query("SET NAMES UTF-8"); mysql_query("SET CHARACTER SET UTF-8"); when conecting to database. so i think that i' ve done everything, but it still save in that anknown format. could you help me. thanks in advance

• Turning off IE8 Compatibility Mode, Good or Bad?

  Hopefully this question isn't as subjective as I think it may be. I have an Intranet application which needs to work with IE8 as the enterprise is replacing IE6 as the standard browser. Our testing team found that it did not work in IE8, little did they know that it actually did. Their browsers were set to run IE8 in compatibility mode for Intranet applications. I found that if I set the meta tag for X-UA-Compatible to IE=EmulateIE8 that I could force the browser to render this application as IE8 and the application worked fine. Are there any pitfalls that I don't know about for this solution? If so, is there a better solution?

• Show EPS file in IE8 with standards modes set to IE8

  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE8"> With this set my EPS files are not rendered in ABCpdf, but set to EmulateIE7 and they work fine. I know EPS aren't a standard web format but they are embedded into a PDF using a bit of ABCpdf magic. I'm still pretty new with mvc but was using this tutorial The application builds fine.. however when I try to add a controller using Product (BTD.Data) as my model class and BTDContext (BTD.DataContext) as my data context class I receive the following error: Unable to retrieve metadata for BTD.Data.Product using the same DbCompiledModel to create context against different types of database servers is not supported. Instead, create a separate DbCompiledModel for each type of server being used. I am at a complete loss - I've scoured google with almost every different variation of that error message above I can think of but to no avail. Here are the things i can verify... Also note - i'm using Entityframework from Nuget... Another Note I was using the default visual studio template that creates your MVC project with the account pages and other stuff. I JUST removed all references to the added files because they were trying to use the "DefaultConnection" which didn't exist - so i thought those files may be what was causing the error - however still no luck after removing them - I just wanted to let everyone know i'm using the visual studio MVC project template which pre-creates a bunch of files. I will be trying to recreate this all from a blank MVC project which doesn't have those files - i will update this once i test that Other References It appears someone else is having the same issues I am - the only difference is they are using sql server - I tried tweaking all my code to follow the suggestions on this stackoverflow question/answer here but still to no avail

• If I package a web application with the maven goal war:exploded, why won't pom.xml and pom.propertie

  Hi, I'm pretty new to Maven and I've noticed an interesting thing in the Maven WAR Plugin. When I package my Java web application with war:war, a zipped war is created. This war contains also the files pom.xml and pom.properties in the META-INF directory. But if I package my application with war:exploded and create an exploded war directory, those two files won't be included. Now I'm curious, why the pom.xml and the pom.properties aren't packaged into the exploded war. Besides those two files the contents of the exploded and the zipped war are equal. Is there a reason why the plugin omits pom.xml and pom.properties from the exploded war?

• Dectect ASCII codes for asian double byte / cyrillic character sets?

  Is it possible to detect if an ascii character belongs to Asian double byte or Cyrillic character sets? Perhaps specific code ranges? I've googled, but not finding anything at first glance. There's an RSS feed I'm tapping into that has the locale set as 'en-gb'. But there are some Asian double byte characters in the feed itself - which I need to handle differently. Just not sure how to detect it since the meta locale data is incorrect. I do not have access to correct the public feed.

• All about WSDL vs MEX?

  I am not able to open the meta data url - http://localhost:8082/Tasks/mex I have added the mexhttpBinding in the config file. Can I see this mex endpoint in browser? The config files look like: <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> Questions: Is Mex is differ from WSDL? If no, why do we require MEX endpoing over WSDL? In the WSDL, I see the WSDL types information missing. Is it by default? Can I look at the type information in WSDL? Thanks in advance.

• jQuery ajax doesn't seem to be reading HTML data in Chromium

  I have an HTML (App) file that reads another HTML (data) file via jQuery.ajax(). It then finds specific tags in the data HTML file and uses text within the tags to display sort-of tool tips. • Silverlight using WCF Ria with POCOS gives edit operation error

  Hi, I have converted an Entity framework project to use POCO objects by removing the entity data model and the domain service and meta data classes. My silverlight project works as it is showing a datagrid of Employee objects. I have not added a DataForm and when I modify the "name" property of one of my Employee objects, I get the error: This EntitySet of type 'TestEmployeesApp.Web.Employee' does not support the 'Edit' operation. The error occurs on validatingProperty() on the class Entity on the client side. I checked the metadata on the server side, and all my properties have the attribute Editable(true). I am using Silverlight 3 with VS2008. JD

• 503 (Server Unavailable) WebException when loading local XHTML file in Visual C# 2008

  Hello! So I'm currently working on an ePub reader application, and I've been reading through a bunch of regular XML files just fine with System.Xml and XmlDocument: XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "META-INF/container.xml")); XmlNodeList xnl = xmldoc.GetElementsByTagName("rootfile"); However, now I'm trying to open the XHTML files that contain the actual book text, and they're XHTML files. Now I don't really know the difference between the two, but I'm getting the following error with this code (in the same document, using the same XmlDocument and XmlNodeList variable) xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "OEBPS/part1.xhtml")); "WebException was unhandled: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable" It's a local document, so I'm not understanding why it's giving this error?   Does anyone know how to pull off something like this... I have alot of repetitive macros as : - #define MYMACRO1(x) Do1(x) #define MYMACRO2(x,y) Do2(x, y) #define MYNEXTMACRO1(x) Do1(x) #define MYNEXTMACRO2(x,y) Do2(x, y) The code above works fine, but I want to write a macro that creates macros (a meta macro). For example: - #define MYMETAMACRO(name) \ #define #name1(x) Do1(x) \ #define #name2(x,y) Do2(x, y) \ Such that I can do : - MYMETAMACRO(MYMACRO); MYMETAMACRO(MYNEXTMACRO); and then : - MYMACRO1(2); MYMACRO2(2,3); MYNEXTMACRO1(4); MYNEXTMACRO2(4, 5); The preprocessor bombs out at the #define as it thinks it is a missing parameter of the macro.

• Tomcat cookies not working via my ProxyPass VirtualHost

  Hi there. I'm having some issues with getting cookies to work when using a ProxyPass to redirect traffic on port 80 to a web-application hosted via Tomcat. My motivation for enabling cookies is to get rid of the "jsessionid=" parameter that is appended to the URLs. I've enabled cookies in my context.xml in META-INF/ for my web application. When I access the webapplication via http://url:8080/webapp it works as expected, the jsessionid parameter is not visible in the URL, instead it's stored in a cookie. When accessing my website via an apache2 virtualhost the cookies doesn't seem to work because now "jsessionid" is being appended to the URLs. How can I solve this issue? Here is my question: I'm trying to deploy an EJB in WebLogic 10.3.2. The purpose is to use a specific WorkManager to execute work produced in the scope of this component. • Dynamically creating GWT screens using Metadata?

  I have an AWT applet application that needs to be ported over to GWT. The applet screens are described in meta data and the applet renders each screen dynamically using reflection. We'd like the same thing in GWT/ExtGWT. I've built a working version of this ExtJS whereby the metadata is turned into ExtJS Screen configs in the form of JSON. The drawback with this approach is the "wiring" of controls to data needs to be written in Javascript. GWT is preferred since it'd be all Java code, no JS. Upon digging in it's possible to render the screens using GWT off the metadata using GWT.create(). The problem I'm having is the wiring to hook a dynamically created button for example to an event handler requires reflection which is not supported in GWT. Is this conclusion correct? and if so, are there any other ways to achieve this type of dynamic UI using ExtGWT?

• Transition domain to new web host without waiting for DNS propagation

  I was considering switching to Amazon EC2 to host my website to handle more traffic. It seems like I would have to update DNS records to point to the new server but I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to wait for the new DNS record to propagate. Putting the code on both hosts would not work for me since the app writes to a database pretty frequently. I thought about just using a meta redirect or php redirect on the old host to redirect to the new host ip but was wondering if there's a better more accepted way of doing this.
