• Windows 2003 lost file extensions

  I have a server with windows 2003, recently i installed a software in this server. When i restarted server my all files can't open sending to a command prompt saying: No program associated with ".exe" file extension. This occurred to all files types in system. When i go see file types association i see this: C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*, change result but when restart return to same. Any idea to resolve?

• Migrating Terminal Server profiles from 2003 to 2008 R2 "V2"

  I've done some searching and there doesn't appear to be a method of migrating old 2003 based profiles to the new "V2" profiles automatically. Specifically, we're interested in retaining the <Profile>.NK2 file in Outlook, the Favorites folder, and the Signatures folder. I'm in the process of writing a fairly complicated migration script that'll be executed at login, but seems like this is something that I shouldn't have to do. The User Migration Tool appears to only work for Vista, not 2008 R2. Any other ideas?

• Exchange 2003 mailbox migrated to 2010 not showing up in Address book

  I have migrated about 45 mailboxes at this point from our single instance of Exchange 2003 to a High Availability Exchange 2010 environment successfully. However one mailbox moved successfully and the user is able to send and receive e-mail internally and externally with no problems but they do not show up in the Global Address List. The OAB is owned by an Exchange 2010 mailbox server. What am I missing?

• Group Policy is not being applied from Server 2003 to win7 client

  Hi, I'm experimenting with Group Policy settings. My DC is running Server 2003, and the client I am using for this test is running Win7. I've restarted the client a few times, and tried running gpupdate/force for good measure. This machine is in it's own OU with a group policy applied to change one setting, Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files. When I run MMC and look at Local Computer Policy on the client this setting shows up as "not configured". Thanks, John

• Moving SQL 2008 from 2003 OS to virtual 2012 OS

  If we wanted to move SQL 2008 from a 2003 OS to a virtual 2012 OS (using VM Ware), does anyone know if there are any licensing or technical problems that would get in the way? All the instructions I've seen on moving SQL server from one machine to another assume the new machine has the same OS. I realize that there are licences have more cores and fail over capability, but for now we are fine with a simple installation.

  I have a Windows 2003 server running a SSH server (WRQ Reflection), how would I ssh to it and specify a specific drive letter? (like the D: drive) ex: from another workstation: ssh [email protected] d: When I do that it fails and I get this error: "exec request failed on channel 0" If I simply SSH to that same windowsbox without trying to specify a drive letter I get a Windows (CMD.EXE) command prompt shell on the C: drive. I can then run any windows command. Thanks

  Hello, I have two keyboard languages, Swedish and Amerikan English. Normally, I switch language by hitting [alt]+[shift] and it works like a charm. However, suddenly Microsoft Outlook has started to hang whenever I try to switch keyboard input language. Whenever i hit [alt]+[shift] or use the menu to switch language Outlook will hang indefinitely not responding. Why? and what can I do about it? I have English Windows 2000 and Outlook 2003 with the Google Search Desktop plugin.

  People Pane in Outlook 2010 either does not show any emails, or only shows some emails for other folders. I've tried re-indexing and recreating the profile, to no avail. I really like the new People Pane in Outlook 2010. Not for the "Social" features, but for finding related emails and attachments. But it just does not work. It is totally broken. Do you know some trick to make it work? Using 32-bit Outlook local version, without Exchange.

  Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. I just think it would be an elegant solution to get my lotus notes mail in outlook(my company uses lotus notes with traveler service installed that exposes mail over the active sync protocol so I can currently read my notes mail via iPhone). This solution would probably eliminate the need for all the hacks needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc) So, maybe someone out there has tried this or knows how to do it before spend time on more researching this.   Recently I changed my OS from XP to W7. I made backup of any Outlook Express messages (the dbx files and adress book as CSV). On W7 I want to import that data into Thunderbird. There is option for importing from Outlook Express, but it is looking for live application data (I can't specify directory with real files myself) and there is no Outlook Express installed on W7 so I can't just import it back to it and then into Thunderbird. How can I import that data into Thunderbird?

  I have a number of secure emails sent to my outlook 2007 client. most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. today i received two that when i try and open them they crash outlook. i have tried restarting outlook and my computer. please can you give me some ideas of what it could be or how i can troubleshoot this issue. i am working on Vista Utlimate x64. thanks.   A new guy at work moved in from Denmark, which means that he initially logged in to our Outlook Web Access 2007 from a computer with Danish Windows. As a result, all the objects in the tree-view in Outlook are now in Danish. For example, "Inbox" is called "Indbakke". This prevails, even though he has now logged in locally on his assigned work computer which has English Windows. We're running Exchange 2003, if that matters. How do you change the language of the names of the objects in Outlook 2007? The "Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings" tool doesn't do this, and I couldn't find anything relevant to this by googling either. In Exchange System Manager there are the "Details Templates" which define these things in different languages, but over on his mailbox there was no configuration option to change which language to use.

  Am currently using Outlook 2013. Several times, when a mail is forwarded to me, i only see the First/Last name of the person in the forwarded mail, not the email id. Is there a way to make Outlook always display the email id. I get these mails from people, who are also using Outlook but different versions. One solution which we have to resort to, is to attach the mail, rather than forward, that way it retains the email address, but this is cumbersome, and I cannot ask everyone to do this. This is similar to this question, but the answer selected does not work for me.

  I am running Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 Pro x64 on a domain. Outlook is connecting to exchange, and the username and password should be pulled from my logon credentials. The problem is, about every few hours, outlook "forgets" what my password is. In the taskbar, a caution triangle appears, and in the bottom right hand corner of exchange, a "Needs Password" replaces "Connected to Microsoft Exchange." Simply clicking "Needs Password" fixes the issue, and new messages are downloaded. What could the issue be? What could be timing out?   I am trying to do an e-mail merge in Microsoft Publisher 2010 (which appears to do mail merging like Microsoft Word) and I'm wanting a merged email address to automatically be hyperlinked in the resulting email. For example, one of the merge fields could be "EmailAddress" with an example address being [email protected]. In the document, I would want the merge field "EmailAddress" to display as the default text in an hyperlink and also set the target of the hyperlink to "mailto:EmailAddress" (eg. mailto:[email protected]). I can't figure out how to get Publisher 2010 to do that. I would think that it's possible, though. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  Vista Home Basic and Outlook 2007 are all updated and repaired. When attempying to mailto: in CL, etc. by clicking on the users address, I get error 'can't open outlook'. If outlook is open, nothing ever happens. If I right click for gmail the address goes in the wrong field. I didnt notice right away but this happened after an auto update. Help! Thanks in advance.   Vista x32 box with Outlook 2007. Outlook is not running. Hasn't been fired up for several reboots. I stopped WMI service and Windows Search service. Machine is mostly quiet, and then servicehost.exe launches an instance and starts banging away at Outlook.ost file. I can't determine what is causing it. I'm watching it in processmon, and trying to investigate it with preocessexplorer. Not having much luck at figuring out why the machine is so interested in that file. NOTHING is running that should be touching it.

  Context: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition Microsoft Office 2007 Outlook Steps to Reproduce: Make an event that recurs once a week. Wait a week. See that it pops up OK. Wait a month. Notice that it doesn't say that it is a month overdue. Expected Result: The usual note that the reminder is [x] weeks overdue. Actual Result: Something like "6 days overdue". Possible Excaberating Issue: I have many overdue reminders. For the ones that aren't time critical (and all other things being equal), I work by category and age. For example, I do health-related reminders when I'm doing health stuff; if I have 2 health-related reminders, I do the older one first. Big Question: How is Outlook supposed to handle this sort of overdue recurring reminder? Is there any way to get Outlook to act the way I expect it to?
