• Can one extract model fit parameters after a ggplot stat_smooth call?

  Using stat_smooth, I can fit models to data. E.g. g=ggplot(tips,aes(x=tip,y=as.numeric(unclass(factor(tips$sex))-1))) +facet_grid(time~.) g=g+ stat_summary(fun.y=mean,geom="point") g=g+ stat_smooth(method="glm", family="binomial") I would like to know the coefficients of the glm binomial fits. I could re-do the fit with dlply and get the coefficients with ldply, but I'd like to avoid such duplication. Calling str(g) reveals the hierarchy of objects that ggplot creates, perhaps there's some way to get to the coefficients through that?

• Would dropping X altogether hurt ?

  Hi, I live in the linux terminal all the time under my slackware GNU/linux system (an EeePC). By default, GNU Emacs won't start if It can't find several Xorg libraries. Assuming I will never use X software at all, would it make sense for me to drop all this Xorg stuff and compile emacs again ? Are you aware of anything that could get me into troubles or making GNU Emacs not working at all ? Are there any advantage for me to keep all these dependencies ? I am asking since as said, my main box is an eeepc with little storage and I am dangerously hitting the limits ;-) Regards

• Display continious dates in Pivot Chart

  I have a set of data in a pivot table with date times and events. I've made a pivot chart with this data, and grouped the data by day and year, then display a count of events for each day. So, my horizontal axis goes from 19 March 2007 to 11 May 2010, and my vertical axis is numeric, going from zero to 140. For some days, I have zero events. These days don't seem to be shown on the horizontal axis, so 2008 is narrower than 2009. How do I display a count of zero for days with no events? I'd like my horizontal axis to be continuous, so that it does not miss any days, and every month ends up taking up the same amount of horizontal space. (This question is similar to the unanswered question here, but I'd rather not generate a table of all the days in the last x number of years just to get a smooth plot!)

  Hi, I am trying to find out the maximum value for an integer (signed or unsigned) from a MySQL database. Is there a way to pull back this information from the database itself? Are there any built-in constants or functions I can use (either standard SQL or MySQL specific). At http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/numeric-types.html it lists the values - but is there a way for the database to tell me. • Robust way to display an image with one fixed dimension

  Lets say that we have an image uploaded by the user, the upload script limits the mb but not the image size (so could be any proportion, 600X200,200X350, and so...). Im already showing this image in one part on my site using the twitter bootstrap image handler written on css, thats good for a profile picture, the problem is that now I want that image to be a cover (like facebook/twitter cover image), my site is responsive so the width of the cover is 900px or 100% if the screen resolution is less than 900px wide. The height is always fixed to 200px. So I know there is a way to control the correct image display using CSS (maybe with jquery too) but Im not a front-end dev, Im a php dev and I dont want to use server side scripts for doing this. So im looking for suggestions or pieces of codes (css, javascript) to start with, I belive that it have to be an already made solution for this, but I dont find any on google. Thanks for any advice!

• R scatterplot overplotting color

  So far I have this: qplot(df[[1]], as.numeric(rownames(df)), group=df[[2]], color=df[[2]], ylab="") I want to use different colors for the points in the 2 groups - perhaps a lighter shade for the what's in black now and a darker - say, red for what's in blue. Also, I want to use hexbin kind of thing for group=0 but not for group=1. I'm not able to get the syntax to get this working. In the current plot 0 is in black and 1 is in blue. Added: I worked on it some more, and by using factor and scale_colour_manual, I got the grey color for 0 and red for 1: > palette1 [1] "grey" "red" "blue" "violet" "black" fy=factor(y, labels=c('grey', 'red')) qplot(x, seq(1:length(x)),col=fy, ylab="") + geom_point() + scale_colour_manual(values=palette1) Pending questions are: How to first plot all the grey and then red on top (some of the red is now hidden because the grey is plotted over). How to apply the hexbin logic for group0 i.e. the grey points only and not for the red.

  Hi, i need to share data between a local service and his hosting activity, i`am using sendBroadcast in order to send data to the hosting activity from the service, but if i want to send data back to the service from the hosting activity? so i though to create static method on the service, and call from the activity, and through it send the parameter, but then i cant do operations like toast inside that static method(which is inside the service).. coz you cant use "myclass.this" inside a static method, i guess there r more limits.. mybe another solution? mybe there is a proper way for this task? thanks, moshik.

I am fairly certain that the Mail API allows me to do this, but if it isn't possible please let me know.   What is the best way for converting phone numbers into international format (E.164) using Java? Given a 'phone number' and a country id (let's say an ISO country code), I would like to convert it into a standard E.164 international format phone number. I am sure I can do it by hand quite easily - but I would not be sure it would work correctly in all situations. Which Java framework/library/utility would you recommend to accomplish this? P.S. The 'phone number' could be anything identifiable by the general public - such as * (510) 786-0404 * 1-800-GOT-MILK * +44-(0)800-7310658 that last one is my favourite - it is how some people write their number in the UK and means that you should either use the +44 or you should use the 0. The E.164 format number should be all numeric, and use the full international country code (e.g.+44)

• How to use jquery .animate() to mock 'text-align:right'

  I am building a very simple jquery menu. On hover, I have a menu on the right easing to the left margin of my menu container. This is easy, as the text is left aligned within said container. However, I also have a menu on the left, and because the links (left justified) are of differing length, the best I can do is adjust the padding to ease the text a uniform amount between links. Therefor, long link text goes to the right edge of the container, buy short text only makes it about half way. In reading about this, I have learned that you can not modify the text align property as it is non numeric. Is there any other way to do this? I of course tried to go with: $('#selector').css('text-align':'right') but that made the text jump to the right instead of ease. Is there any way to ensure all links ease to the rightmost margin of the container?

  Our application offer the user to display different languages if they have the approppriate Language DLL (say German.DLL, French.DLL, even Chinese.DLL). We have functional test to verify that those DLLs enable the right options in a Combobox and that choosing them will actually translate strings in the UI. I would like to know options to test this translation dll's more in depth, maybe ensuring that all the characters in the selected langauge (and in the file) can be correctly displayed, or that the internal structure of the DLL is consistent, there are no strings exceeding the limits that are expected of them, etc... Any suggestions on what to test and how to test it? Does anyone know specific problems that may arise and we should check? Thanks in advance.

  I want to extract large amounts of data from Excel, manipulate it and put it back. I have found the best way to do this is to extract the data from an Excel Range in to a large array, change the contents on the array and write it back to the Excel Range. I am now rewriting the application using VB.NET 2008/2010 and wish to take advantage of any new features. Currently I have to loop through the contents of the array to find elements with certain values; also sorting large arrays is cumbersome. I am looking to use the new features, including LINQ to manipulate the data in my array. Does anybody have any advice on the easiest ways to filter / query, sort etc. data in a large array.   I have several .csv files with similar filenames except a numeric month (i.e. 03_data.csv, 04_data.csv, 05_data.csv, etc.) that I'd like to read into R. I have two questions: Is there a function in R similar to MATLAB's varname and assignin that will let me create/declare a variable name within a function or loop that will allow me to read the respective .csv file - i.e. 03_data.csv into 03_data data.frame, etc.? I want to write a quick loop to do this because the filenames are similar. As an alternative, is it better to create one dataframe with the first file and then append the rest using a for loop? How would I do that?

  Is there a way to scroll through a document without exiting isearch mode? I have isearch-allow-scroll set to t, but that limits my scroll range to make sure the current isearch match is visible in the buffer. Ideally, I would like to be able to scroll with the mousewheel, having all the isearch matches highlighted as I scroll. I am aware of M-x occur, but a lot of the time simply being able to scroll in isearch mode would be more efficient (in addition, M-x occur does not play well with folding mode).

  So iow, some algorithm to generate a unique, reasonable length filename based on binary file content. Two files that have the same binary content should have the same name. Obviously there would be limits to this, as presumably you couldn't have unique reasonable length filenames for each of a large set of large files only differing at a handful of bit positions. But presumably there is some heuristic, best approximation to this that for example exploits known attributes of typical image files. If I had the name of some algorithm that does this I can google it and find other approaches as well.

  Does MySql 5.1 and SQL Server 2008 (Web edition, Standard) have any functional password limitations other than length limits? Are metacharacters in any form a bad idea to use, like bang, pipe, hash, any slash, carrot, and so on? I know that MySql 5.1 has a password length limitation of 16 characters that is hardcoded, but I was wondering, are any metacharacters (i.e. non alphanumerics) a bad idea to use? And is this true in SQL Server 2008 Web edition, Standard? So specifically: can symbols like: /`~:}{[]^ be used successfully? I would hope it doesn't matter to the database, but I don't understand enough about password storage in enterprise database systems yet to know for sure, and I was looking for confirmation or an explanation.

Right now we have a developer license and and provision UUIDs manually and distribute the app OTA via a web server. This limits us to 100 devices per license and leaves us paying for upkeep of the license. Some of our clients may also be interested in using an MDM software package. This means up to 29th in February if it's a leap year, and 30/31 for other months respectively. Currently, it only allows years starting with 2 (2012) and months up to 12 (December). But it limits the day to 29 regardless of which month. Can anybody help me fix it?

  Some time ago I wrote server software which is currently running at it's max. (3k users average). So I decided to rewrite certain parts so I can run the software at another server to balance it's load. I can't simply start another instance of the server since there is some data which has to be available to all users. So I was thinking of creating a small manager and all the servers connect and send their (relevant)data to the manager. But it also got me thinking about another problem. The manager could also reach it's limits which is exactly what i'm trying to prevent in the future. So I would like to know how I could fix this problem. • Creating a SQL lookup

  I’m in the process of cleaning up a database table. Due to the way some of the data needed to be processed, now I need to go back and perform a “reverse lookup” on the data. For example, a field for one of the records is set to “car” and I need to set that record’s tranportmode field to “1” (for “car”). The lookup tables are already created. I just need to do the reverse lookup part. The cleansed tables will only have the numeric lookup value.
