  • What's a good 2nd level cache for JEE applications?

    Can anyone recommend a good 2nd level object caching solution for JEE 6 applications, and give background to your recommendation? I'm using JPA 2.0 as persistence provider. I am particularly worried about having to run the cache client as a single-thread / singleton bean. Is that the case? If so, is that an issue? I've good experience using memcached from a PHP webapp, but PHP is of course single-threaded, so that was never an issue...

I have done console programming with C++ and graphics programmign with C++ in Borland, but I've have never done Win32 C++ programming and I'm curious if anyone knows of a good site to start with? Does anyone know of any good sites to recommend about getting up and going fast with Win32 API C++?

  • Recording a screencast of an Android app using the emulator

    Unlike the iPhone simulator, the Android emulator doesn't look like an Android device. If you have to create a screencast or promotional video of your Android application, the default skin of the emulator is no good. Is there any way to configure the emulator to look like an Android device? If you have dealt with this already, what other things do you recommend taking into account to record an emulator screencast? Not a programming question per se, but an useful question for Android developers.

    I need some help deciding what to use to acquire an image from a webcam. I want to acquire a single image. I know you can typically acquire a still image at a higher resolution than a single video frame. Currently, I am using MATLAB's image acquisition toolbox.. which apparently only supports obtaining frames in video mode(so lower resolution). Which other libraries do you recommend? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    I need some PHP classes that deal with image processing in a good manner. I have made a thumbnail creator myself but the end result quality is just horrible. Is it also possible to let PHP convert and save all images to one type. For example take an image(jpg,png,gif), compress it, resize it, and save as png.   • Convert UTF-16 to UTF-8 under Windows and Linux, in C

    I was wondering if there is a recommended 'cross' Windows and Linux method for the purpose of converting strings from UTF-16LE to UTF-8? or one should use different methods for each environment? I've managed to google few references to 'iconv' , but for somreason I can't find samples of basic conversions, such as - converting a wchar_t UTF-16 to UTF-8. Anybody can recommend a method that would be 'cross', and if you know of references or a guide with samples, would very appreciate it. Thanks, Doori Bar

Also I want to keep the previously download xml so next time I may not need to download again until certain hours is passed or whatever period of time according to settings. Do you recommend me to download it first and store locally before process it? Or should I process it while downloading (with libxml2 I guess)? What do you usually with apps using remote XML?
